Hey Dave, two other easy mods for a Wah; 1) lower the switch to increase the sweep. Just unscrew the hex washer and adjust until toe down is at the lowest point before engaging the switch. 2) there’s a plastic loop looking part against the gear of the pot. Loosen the screw and you can adjust the pot so that at max toe down it’s brighter or darker. Easy to customize your sound.
Dave no worries bro you nailed them all. I've heard so many of these noises and thought "oh the amp is just cranked or whatever" but these are intentional techniques just make me love him even more. So incredible, THANK YOU
Somehow I end up missing Jimi and his music more every year (if that is possible?). The combination of playing and song writing is for me still unsurpassed by any other musician since and that's not to decry anyone else's efforts as I absolutely love several other guitarists as well. I try very hard not to play in imitation of Jimi's style (I have nowhere near your talent Dave) but instead just allude to it when playing his songs. Every now and again in life we have the great gift of witnessing genius that lifts our lives above our ordinary selves. Jimi was just such a gift. How could we not miss him ? Edit - just to add as you forgot to that Jimi could make his wah wah imitate ducks on Rainy Day Dream Away :-) .
I completely agree. To me there is Jimi and then there is the rest. He was totally unique in every way possible. I love many guitarists but none have the same impact on me as Jimi has.
I had a bad working day with a utterly crappy flu, but to see a Hendrix video (and of course a Mr Simpson video) make it all of a sudden pretty good ! Thanks a lot Dave, greetings from Belgium :)
20 odd years ago I got the tab book for Xmas..I've been nibbling away at it for years....along with daves videos on Jimi .its all kinda coming together....well kinda...haha...I go back and watch jimi all the time and realise how amazing he was..thanks for a wicked lesson dave
Amazing!, just amazing. Thank you so much Dave for your indepth explanation of Jimi's techniques. You continue to inspire us mere mortals to chase the sound of our heroes.👃
You are the king of wah!! You discovered how to use it!! I am trying to discover for decades what Jimi did in star spangled banner and others songs... and you did!! Thaaaaaank you a lot!!! Very nice tips!!!!
Fantastic, thank you so much, your sound is amazing, yes Jimmy come back as we are all playing catch-up, crazy stuff, thank you again me Simpson , 👍🏻👍🏻🎸🎸🔥
After being obsessed with Jimi for the past 20 years I finally know how he makes that on/off sound. Ref 33:30 time stamp. Amazing Dave, thank you sir. Hope you're well
You crack me right up Davo lerrrd! Great lessons and ad lib comedy is ace! You don’t need a wah mate. All you need is a microphone and you can do your crazy wah sounds by ad libbing with your mouth wah 👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
HEY DAVE! great video man i LOVE wah pedals! wah and univibe are my too favorite effects i have a vox V848 clyde mccoy reissue wah that has been pimped out by wah guru joe gagan which i love i also really love my tesse wizard wah which is not really a reissue of anything it is it's own thing but very cool!
This series is fantastic dave! It’s like gold dust all your knowledge on the man crammed into a series. One of the videos in the playlist says private video which can’t be watched I believe it would be episode 4?? Love the channel thanks for the great videos
Dave Simpson brilliant :) have a great xmas and keep up the good work.. looking forward to many more of these and the Rory series. You’ve also convinced me to buy a rocker valve amp and cr 20 within the last week. You should be on commission from orange haha
Never cut the feet off, but I have added those little stick on pads like on the bottom of those glass cutting boards to the top of a switch. I guess that's one more thing me and Jimi have in common. Is Wahwahwise one word? Thoroughly entertained!
Excellent. Wah sound made that's not Hendrix derived-David Gilmore's Gullmore, seagull sound on Echos, by reversing inputs (unless Hendrix used in on 1983).
Apparently Jimi used to roll back the sweep wheel slightly on every wah pedal , I heard it on a jimi doc interview thing, But Can anyone confirm this ??
No sir thank you and god bless you. Your content is extremely genuine and descriptive and unlike other content creators who usually give bite sized lesson only to either sponsor a product or tie in their paid lessons. You give us the whole meal. I haven’t looked into it but if you have a patron account o would definitely donate 😄😁😄
Dave Simpson I actually have a question. You obviously need to have high grade locking headstock tuners to stay in tune with all the dive bombs that are taking place on a non locking tremolo strat if that makes sense?
ROFLMAO! I had the volume down so as not to bother the wife, and had Closed Captioning on so I could "hear" what you're saying and CC said it was "laughter" and "music" while you were doing the Claptonesque Wah. Laughter, that's very close to making yer guitar talk ain't it? (new sub, new to channel) Thanks!
The chinese build V847A is my favorite WAH for any genre, only two things that it misses out on is an LED and a dustproof pot. A bit confused when you talk WAH sound: With a true bypass pedal, when the pedal is in bypass mode (off), the guitar signal is routed directly onward. Type of bypass should have nothing todo with the sound of an engaged WAH. Regardless, I don't see any reason to mod it to true bypass, since it works extremely well getting the guitar signal handed forward without coloring the sound while disengaged in my signal chain, a lot of other WAH's I tried do that, even some of the more expensive ones. Thanks for the tip with the rubber feet, did cut them where they have an inner bevel, very easy to turn it on/off and still easy to feel, plus I should not be able to floor out the on/off switch. :)
Removed the rubber feet completely for instant on/off switching, spring in the switch could be a bit tighter on my WAH. I kinda wish that VOX made this with a movement sensor for on/off and an adjustable time out delay, so that the WAH activates when you move the pedal on it and turns of after adjustable ms when you stop moving it, besides adding a dustproof pot. :)
@@mrcards169 I modded mine after I build a Clone Bender Mk1, the germanium transistors didn’t like buffered bypass, they are not happy with active pups either. 😁 Doesn’t matter with any of my other pedals, I just like that old bender circuit so much that I had to fix my favorite Wah.
Hey Dave I have a great mod for your katana 50 watt combo, would you like to have a speaker out, either with the katana speaker on with another cab, or running the combo only using the external speakers of your choice (ex, 4x 12 cab)..you can have either mod..and it's so simple...especially if you are staying with the 50 watter...let me know if your interested. .cheers Dave from NYC
Hi Dave! Fantastic video! I ordered a pot replacement for my Ibanez wah and can't wait to put it in and play, but I am afraid that after some time it will start to sound scratchy again... How do you take care of your WH10? I mean how do you mentain it, in order that it wouldn't get scratchy?
What do i do if my wah pedal makes the entire signal go down and get quieter? The amp is overdriven and when i kick on the wah it actually sounds less overdriven and very shrill sounding. Im not sure if i need to mod it or what i have to do.
HEY DAVE! i took the little feet things off my wah to make it easter to turn on BUT i found it then would then turn off and on when playing it so i ended up putting them back on.BUT that is just me maybe i need to be a little more soft on my wah when playing it.
Hey Dave, Thanks for the Tutorials. I wroten you an E-Mail (to the UA-cam Channel Info E-Mail) because i want to ask if theres a Chance to Mix some Songs for you... Hope you`ll read this. Cheers Mooble :)

'Jimi, why aren't you here anymore?' We are all so glad you're here, Dave, showing this wonderful stuff.
Your hero is John Frusciante and mine is Stevie Ray Vaughan, but... none of them would be known today if it wasn't for the Voodoo Chile'
At last! Dave, a right handed guitarist playing a lefty! Fender reissue Jimi Strats but never had the brains to do the obvious! Bravo!
What an incredible instrument a Stratocaster is no other guitar allows that level of expressiveness.

Brilliant Dave. Thanks a lot for this. Hours of fun ahead 👌
I've been waiting a lot for this lesson!
Your Jimi technique expertise is beyond reproach. Thanks!
Thank you very much. :)
Oh yeah, regarding the bombs; I always interpreted them as people crying (in addition to bombs dropping).
Thank you, for letting me know that I made the right choice on choosing the Vox v847 as my first Wah Pedal
Man he really goes deep on these different guys tones it's awesome

Late to the party watching these Hendrix videos Dave, think I was grinning like a madman through those dive bombs.. thank you thank you thank you!
Thanks Dave. I didn't know that jimi did that tap on and off trick with the wah pedal. Great info

Flicking back and forth on the pickup selector from bridge to neck with a dimed Fuzz Face is usually the way to achieve this effect.

Love this video so much, learned a lot, subbed!! U really know about this stuff...
its here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jimmy Page dazed and confused harmonics with a wah.. and a bow with the wah ;-)
Jimi Hendrix specifically wrote Voodoo Child (Slight Return), for the 'Black Panthers' as their anthem. Rest in Black Power Jimi

I already cut the rubbers off from my wah pedals... :-) I will try them tomorrow 👍👍👍👍👍👍
The technique of switching input and output for that squeal used in echoes whale squeal:)
Awesome video Dave!!
Sorry so late to the party, lol.
Thanks for all the killer demonstration's.
Do you deck your bridge or float? Thanks!
✌
I deck them.
What were the settings on that Orange? Incredible tone and video!
Which pedals and exactly which amp you use? Great vid!

Hey Dave! What guitar you use in here?
Had to pause this to watch the "Star Spangled Banner" footage.
Does it matter if I get the v847, v847a or v847c?
Shit man, you are on fire!!

With a Stanleyknive, as close to the metal as possible, keep in mind that it takes some time getting used to having it switching on/off so easy.

I shall have a think. Thank you for contacting me. : )
David Gilmour plugged his wah in the wrong way round to get the seagull sounds on the song Echoes ... But yeah can't think of any others haha
Dave do u adjust the Knob inside the wha on the teeth t turn the highs down?
I don't no.
@@thedavesimpson hey Dave found out Rodger mayer did adjust the sweep on Jim is wha, thanks for the feedback, no pun intended, ha ha.

@@thedavesimpson Thank you very much, also do you think the Marshall Lead 20 can do John's tone, and if it would work with the Ds-2 and WH10?
Will removing the feet also help make turning on and off the wh10 easier?
I'll get a vid done for you very very soon. : )
In my opinion, another song with an almost impossible to imitate wah pedal and Still Raining, Still Dreaming
What do i do if my wah pedal makes the entire signal go down and get quieter? The amp is overdriven and when i kick on the wah it actually sounds less overdriven and very shrill sounding. Im not sure if i need to mod it or what i have to do.
Check you power supply or battery. If its not ether of those I would get it looked at. Somethings up.
Can do the wah mod(rubber) to the ibañez wah?
I'll get a vid done on it very soon. : )

You have to learn to put on just enough pressure so you don't turn it off. It takes a while to get used to. :)
HEY DAVE! yeah i am trying to learn to be a bit less heavy footed on my wah because i to hate how hard it is to turn on with those little feet.
Bugger! I've got a BLOX Dave!!!!!!!!!! :( oneday that silver top will be mine!
Robot Sprinkles....
I’m sure I read somewhere that Frank Zappa introduced Jimi to the Wah.
Very possible. :)
Sir DAVE SIMPSON Thank you and ...See my comments to you (Below)
I wonder, Dave plus others, if Hendrix werealive today, would he use a Floyd Rose?
I would think he would have tried it out certainly. :)
Hi Dave,
Great vid, does the vox wha pedal come non true bypass???
Thanks
Thank you very much and the vox is indeed not true bypass. You need it to be to get the right sound. : )
Where did you here that about him ripping off those rubber bits of the wah pedal making it easier to turn on and off
An interview with Randy Hansen. He has one of Jimi's wahs. : )
Oh cool! Randy Hansen is awesome. Any idea where I can find this interview?
