Thanks so much to everyone who liked and shared this video! Feel free to check out my brand new free tutorial on (as requested...) the playing style of Mateus Asato! ua-cam.com/video/4fhGbNWHXPM/v-deo.html
you know I have been playing since 2 years right now. I create myself a schedule (but I am not sure is the right one) mainly to improve my legato and alternate picking, learning music theory and so on but still I feel there is something missing and precisely how to connect all what I have learned in a way that I can pick up a guitar and do something original. I was wondering if you give private lessons on Skype lets say, because I really need someone to asses my level and tell me in which direction to go. My aim is to reach your current level.
Great lesson, Ross. I love the fact that you played this lesson on Hendrix and Frusciante, two of the most famous Strat players, on a Tele. It sounded great.
Hey I am an old guy that has been playing guitar for ever. You really are taking your time to show just what you are doing. You are the first one I've seen adding the small photos of what notes you are playing. I can always see what notes they are playing until I fiddle around a bit. Good job. 2 thumbs up.
Nice intro to the universe of learning that is studying Hendrix's technique. I like that last riff... I've just been looking at Jimi's _rhythm_ playing for the last few months - the guy was a total genius.
I first heard Hendrix when I was in my late teens in Augusta, GA. I had gone to almost every R&B show at the Bell Auditorium for three or four years before that. I still play almost every single day and with a lot of emotion.. I'm glad you're keeping this stuff alive; it's good stuff.
LexLuthier1 Yo Lex,I used to go to wrestling matches at the Bell Auditorium in the mid 1970's,first heard of Hendrix in South Augusta,I went to Barton Chapel Elementary School. A friend of mine had the Album Are You Experienced.
I find lessons like this very helpful, where one simple, bite-sized concept is introduced and applied in a couple of contexts. Just this one idea has so many useful applications.
I bought your online guitar course and it is AMAZING, theory is so easy to understand and I feel like I am actually making progress , unlike most of the time I've played lately. You're an excellent teacher and an excellent player. Thank you so much Ross for helping me fall in love with the guitar again!
Same, man! Have been playing guitar for 20 years now, in 4 hours I learned more from him than I did in 20 years. I could play the guitar, but mostly just play what other artists created, practicing for hours to be able to recreate Hendrix songs, without really understanding what I was playing or why it had to be played there, it was always very frustrating and every time I tried to learn theory it was very boring and without being applied to the instrument, which was maddening and hard to understand. This guy is a genius as a player but mostly as a teacher, it's so easy to understand and every 10 minutes I'm having an eureka moment "THAT'S THE REASON OF THIS BEING PLAYED THERE", damn, haven't been this excited to study the guitar since I started playing it.
Good lord, can't believe how quickly this transformed my rhythm playing and all it took was applying the triads and their inversions. Have known them for a while, but I've never had any way to apply them up until now. Seems the only way to really pick up on theoretical concepts is to apply them practically. Thank you very very much for sharing this. This has been an immense help.
How am I only discovering this channel now?! So well explained. Compared to others trying the same thing. I got a lot out of this, and I’m no noob. Subscribed
Thanks very much for creating this lesson! I've been learning guitar since January of this year and so far; everything you've shown is really helpful on moving forward. Never stop doing what you're doing because i'm never gonna stop learning till the day i die. Producers like you help so many of us new players learn things we'd possibly never think about. 🎸
Dragonaut nah, he sounded pretty Scottish to me. Funny though, they all sound completely different, even though they're all from the shire, which is NOT a big place. Frodo definitely had the fakest accent though.
Well I'm american. And I can tell the difference between an accent from Wales, London, Ireland, and Scotland (don't get me started on women's irish accents, holy hell). Harry Potter here may as well don his hobbit armor and slay some orcs. With all that said, I liked his guitar lesson ha.
Clear, concise and practical - really gelled the mess of information I have been watching elsewhere, and used the song example that helps the most to practice effectively. Hours of fun ahead thank you Ross.
Even more inspiring than the last video of yours that I just watched. I've seen & heard all of these concepts in the past. I never was able to completely grasp them until watching your no nonsense straight to the point take on them. It's so much easier to understand when you have someone who has a firm grasp of the concepts explain it to you. I've watched a lot of other you tubers try & explain simple concepts like these but they make them sound like it's rocket science that they are not able to put into words, but here you are doing exactly what they fail to do. Thank you sir. This is very inspiring.
2nd video of yours I've watched. Nice to see a fellow Scot making his way to Internet success using nothing but his raw talent and clear communication teaching skills. I've been playing a long long time but I'never say I know it all. Makes this Glasgow boy wish I was back home to jam with you and hire you for gigs and lessons. I live overseas now. All the best pal. Hope it keeps growing for you.
I don't know what you do different from other instructional vids, but I get these techniques so clearly from your videos, well done man. Keep them coming!
Yo man i love these videos. You explain things with not too much complexity but when u do u explain what ur talking about instead of assuming we are all music theory majors. And ur also very straight to the point. Meaning u dont for 5 minutes before beginning the lesson. Thank you
Thank you, Ross. Even though I've played guitar for ~30 years, I learn nice things from you. Just the right amount of teaching/playing for everything you do.
This is SO simple, yet brilliant. I'm guilty of chugging along using the same old chord shapes, but now I see how to mix in triads and short fills. Why this never occurred to me before, I'll never know. I'm currently working through Ross's Bulletproof Guitar 2.0 course and love it - many lightbulbs are finally coming on!
Hello from France. Thank you for this video ! You made me work this trick ... it was a bit hard at the beginning, but after an hour or two trying hard, I succeeded. Your explanation is clear. This trick has something so smooth inside, I love it !
OMG- this lesson turned on the lightbulb for me- finally- by connecting my fingers to these (major) triads through the 3 inversions up and down the neck- thank you, thank you, thank you!! Still sloppy, but I get it now.
This is great tutorial, Ross. A nice explanation of a relatively simple trick that a lot of guitar players (even quite advanced) overlook or never learn. Triads and 2 note chords are a great way of adding a bit of style and harmony to lead work and melodic fills . Great tutorial and you Keep on point, demonstrating the idea tastefully without falling into the 'look how fabulous my playing is' trap. Without wishing to sound patronising or superior well done young man !
What a fantastic lesson. Clearly explained and carefully demonstrated. Just the right balance of technique and theory. The slower example is very helpful. That is a model lesson
I can only second that. You have a very informative, calm way of explaining your thoughts without overcomplicating things. Definitely subbed and looking forward to seeing more of you!
Excellent pace of the lesson. And thank you, Ross, for speaking clearly so us North Americans can easily understand you! Nota bene: everyone loves a pronounced Scottish or Northern English accent (assuming I’m in the ball park), however, it can be challenging to keep up with! :-).
I typically explain this with further clarification that involves seeing pentatonic box one (major) as it sits above the "A" chord shape. Dude, you rock.
Exactly! It's extremely useful once we know the reason. I have been expanding my solo and rhythm playing abilities using these "bits of the chord" concepts. They fit like a glove over the chords being played and help to break out of the limited box of playing only pentatonic scales all the time. I find that when there is a chord change, if I focus on playing a piece of that chord or a few notes of it, my playing sounds so much better and more melodic. Of course the scale notes and chromatics are great for connecting from chord to chord.
Ty ya is a trip....ya explain so well and precise...am a singer but mostly use the acoustic guitar with only the chords to accompany me with....and been doing gigs alone.....that was refreshing.....
I have never had a single lesson on UA-cam or in person take me as far as I've gotten today and I haven't even finished yet. I memorized the alphabet a while ago, but today I learned how to spell.
This sounds really like Jimi Hendrix. Only very few can play like that. Another thing with Jimi is that at every event he played every song slightly different according to the mood he was in. Each performance was fresh and unique.
Excellent video, even a basic level player like myself can follow along. Very clear explanation! Please make more, they are great. Look forward to checking out your Bulletproof course.
Thankyou for this vid.very usefull trick too have in your book.sounds great!.I love john frusicante's style of play & this will help me with my song writing I'm sure!.thanks again bro🤘

Glad you got value from it!
I'm glad you pointed out the inversions. A ton of lessons on YT fail to even mention them. R,3,5...3,5,R...5,R,3.
I bought your online guitar course and it is AMAZING, theory is so easy to understand and I feel like I am actually making progress , unlike most of the time I've played lately. This is a really straight forward and accessible way to begin explaining basic music theory...keep up the good work
Wooow some negative commenters here. Love the lesson - you have a wicked teaching style. Clear and to the point. Very helpful lesson mate. THANK YOU
Mad respect for this guy, been doing his course on Udemy and I've learned more with him over the past 2 weeks than I have on my own for a whole year.

Harry potter with the voice of a hobbit playing Hendrix. I approve. Now time for second breakfast.
Dragonaut But what about second breakfast? Elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea?
Dragonaut Billy Boyd (Pippin) is from Glasgow, Scotland. Just FYI.

thank you Ive playing for 35 years and I learned from you Im an old school shredder morphing into more classic rock with feel

You are a truly musician man. Keep going like this. Congratulations from Brazil.
I've only watched 2 videos but I know a guitar badass when I hear one. Your playing is very pleasing to my ears man.

Your quick explanation of inversions was fantastic. Cheers.
Glad you think so!
Ross you're an incredible musician please keep them coming I learn so much and been playing longer than you been born
i knew this technique and i wasnt even aware of it, being a rhcp and john frusciante fan and knowing how to play ''Soul To Squeeze" was enough for me

Well spoken. The way you explain is concise, and really easy to understand.
Thanks for this. I've really been wanting to know how to get that sound. I hear it in all kinds of songs and never knew it was such a simple idea
You are an excellent teacher. Thanks for explaining how Hendrix plays the chords with different inversions. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.
Thank God. You're a good teacher and these two are my biggest influences.
jarrett finney Thank you Jarrett, I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson!

Sounds awesome. I’ll practice this tonight when I am home from work. Love the tone..

This is awesome!!!! Funky useful...! Thanks for share this lesson, bro... Appreciate it!
This guy is good at explaining inversions and more theory
Thank you Ross. Clearly explained in your great relaxed style.
No matter what style you play you make it sound awesome !! Great job !!Thanks !!!😁
Dude...finally, the explainable application I've been looking for
Hey, thanks for this video. I knew Hendrix riffed chords in this manner, but not the underlying reason why it works. Thanks for the insights.
Exactly! It's extremely useful once we know the reason. I have been expanding my solo and rhythm playing abilities using these "bits of the chord" concepts. Wonderful lesson. Methodological and illustrated with examples. Thank you.
Very cool. Just suscribed. easy to follow and I love these triad shapes and inversion stuff.

Wow, very nice. Well thought out and executed. You have a great touch too.
Good lesson! I always loved that aspect of Jimi’s playing. Lot of soul / funk/ R&B guitarists use those moves too. Good stuff!
Excellent video lesson! Keep up the good work!
This is a super good lesson in a context I can follow wow thanks
This is a great channel dude. Keep it up!
Great Scot that was a proper lesson by a great Scot!
Finally someone that plays what you can expect to learn at the start of the video.
Well done. Clear and to the point.
And yes, i love your guitar chops.
This sounds really like Jimi Hendrix. Only very few can play like that. Another thing with Jimi is that at every event he played every song slightly different according to the mood he was in. Each performance was fresh and unique.

Great video! Love your tone!
thanks for the easy explanation of triads. You connected a few dots for me by keeping it simple.
Great video, first time watcher, looking forward to rooting through your channel.
Great video!!! Simply trick but I've been chasing that idea for years🙏🙏🙏
Cool lesson man
Thank you for this. I think the second example riff sounds even better slowed down
That was awesome man. Thanks for that!
