"Gee, this New Republic thing is going really well. I sure hope a goofy looking blue man from outer space doesn't show up and ruin everything."
-Princess Leia, moments before Thrawn shows up in his space Jalopy.
KingSkeletor Someone needs to draw Thrawn in a space jalopy
*Muffled “X Gon Give It To Ya” heard in the distance.*
+KingSkeletor
But Carl, you can't call ISD Chimaera a Space Jalopy! That triggers people!
yeah, its a terror space dorito
Rebel scum: *doing rebel things*
Thrawn: Buenos dias, fuccboi.
Now students of the Imperial Academy of Carida, listen to Grand Admiral EckhartsLadder "Tactical uses through History" lesson.
Now we see how long it shall take for him to explain.
Nah I imagine that in-universe Eck would be a random technician on the Knight Hammer that everyone knows could command it way better than Daala.
@@KitsuneGB-hc9zb So... Does that mean he dies once Daala loses the Knight Hammer? Or... Y'know, pulls a "Yularen at the Death Star" situation?...
Then suddenly, Kyp Durron!
Thrawn in a nutshell: "YOU ACTIVATED MY TRAP CARD!"
Imagine Darth Vader having a force-sensitive cat. It could throw things on the floor without touching it.
that could be the next darth vader comic
“Nothing is allowed anywhere when I’m around”
Thrawn, Thrawn, he's our Chiss!
Cooler than that clone on Byss!
Go Thrawn!
"I study the art of war, work to perfect it" - Grand Admiral Thrawn
Thrawn is a tactical genius! Great job on filling in the gaps in this battle!
Imagine if he was force sensitive?
HOnestly I don't think being force sensitive would have change much for Thrawn. Being force Sensitive does not make you omnipotent, i.e. Palpatine, Darth Krayt, Darth Malgus, etc. He had no reason to think Rukh would betray him like he did, and so had no chance to prepare against it. HIs last words summarise it best, "But... It was so artistically done."
I mean true, had he been able to learn Battle Meditation, he would have had to use an unstable clone like C'baoth, instead doing it himself, probably even better. That alone is scary enough.
@@KushSalad Everybody is force sensitive.
@kof ola No.
@@kofola9145 actually no, force sensitivity give you the ability to detect disturbances and manipulate objects. If Thrawn had been force sensitive and detected the coming betrayal he would have planned it down to the last hair on his head.
Oooh a breakdown of a novel this time! Much tougher to pull off, but also much more informative as well!
Yes
I really want Thrawn to return. He’s a better villain than the entire First Order. Star Wars would greatly benefit from having him enter the picture again.
well well well
What a genius thrawn gets a moment of silence ...
Still on vacation, so I won't be responding to many comments. Hope y'all enjoy!
EckhartsLadder damn dude 2 k subers in 2 day got to give it to ya
I never get responses anyway but still ok! I'll enjoy!
EckhartsLadder how the rebels could have won the battle of atollon, or if it could have happened differently

Idea for future Battle Breakdowns
Battle of Area 51 from Independence Day
2nd Battle of Area 51 from Independence Day 2
Battle of Coruscant (Clone Wars)
Battle of Yavin 4
2nd Battle of Coruscant during the Yuzhan Vong War
The thrawn pincer is my favorite thing he does. It makes creative use of technology and is tactically fun with being able to warp in extra ships wherever he wants. If there was a strategy game the implemented it I would bring an interdictor or two everywhere i went just to use it.
Thrawn's tactics here are even more impressive when you consider that new groups of dreadnoughts (usually two or three at a time) keep dropping in throughout the battle-always right where the New Republic thinks it has found an escape route. Also, when you consider that most of those ships had to be on their way BEFORE the New Republic started to move so they could arrive in time to cut off their escape in time, you really see how far ahead Thrawn plans and just how well he knows his enemies. The only reason the MC80 cruiser is able to get away and threaten the interdictor is because it wasn't where it was supposed to be when the two dreadnoughts dropped out of hyperspace. It was Garm's A-Wing slash that saved the New Republic fleet from total destruction. As it was, the New republic lost a lot of ships as well as the planet.
Thrawn's battle plans, while brilliant and terrifyingly effective, often require precise timing and coordination between separate task forces. If you can disrupt their coordination or throw off their timing, you have a chance to escape. Though, as you've pointed out in another video, Thrawn adapts very quickly, so you'd better take the opportunity to escape instead of trying to turn the tide of the battle because he WILL regain the upper hand soon. And if you're still around when he does, you're dead!
Also, I love Thrawn's use of illusion and misdirection in the book "Thrawn." It really shows how he is still a genius level tactician and strategist even when he doesn't have weeks or months to study his enemies and prepare the perfect assault.
I know this would be difficult, but can you breakdown what is by far the largest space battle in the whole franchise? *The* *Battle* *of* *Yuuzhan'tar!*
I have made this request: Twice.
Alternate title: "8 minutes of exemplifying how awesome Thrawn is"
I perfected the thrawn manuveur in empire at war.
It’s actually easier than you think; all you have to do is send a few fighters to scout and then just hyperspace a few capital ships at point blank range with the enemy ships
Aayush I see what you mean. I feel stupid now. I’ve deleted my original comment because of how dumb it was.
Aayush I pause the game deploy ship than pause again when I get to the enemy base than place command ships.
Bookhead714 it's easy pause the game than place the ships then press play than your fleet is their in seconds your welcome from a fellow grey jedi.
it's wise to do it with some fast moving ships to scout ahead. assuming you play with the empire [as I Always do], you use some TIE as scouts and one or two tartan cruisers for anti-fighter role. then bring in the heavyweights when you have a better idea of the enemy force. I try to do it in such a manner that the enemy fighter chase my few TIEs , bringing them to the tartans which solves the problem. good specially to get rid of X and B wings. Y or A wings would be taken care of by all those the cruisers squadrons.
Iblis or ēblis (ابلیس) in persian means devil
Ackbar in arabic (اکبر) mean great or big
Mustafar ; mustafa (مسطفی) means chosen one
Just pointing out
The last one was probably intentional. It’s too obvious to ignore.
Bookhead714 and admiral ackbar makes sense too as being the Grand admiral of the rebelion but i dont know about the first one
Probably yes with Garm Iblis, because he was condider like a black sheep for the rebel alliance (and new republic). He had radical and millitary point of view, so I though devil is a good signification for his name. Probably the creator of Garm (Timothy Zahn) intantionnaly choose this name.
MaitreEtherion i didnt knew that interesting

Loving theses breakdown videos! Keep them up! You should do vs battle breakdowns like for what would happen if the imperial fleet at endor battled snokes first order fleet but with the diagrams and the animation!
Wow you have over 200k subs THATS INSANE not long ago you only were just breaking 10k
CrazyMangoz I remember the good old days of barely scratching 10-20k channel skyrocketed since then
Recusant Class vs Something. Will never stop suggesting. EVER!!!
This is my favourite series on your channel!
Joshua Kielty Mine, too!
i’m still sad about the extreme lack of starship versus. i understand and wholeheartedly agree with his reasoning, but i can still be sad.
I'd love to see some more legends lore on Garm. All I know about him is he has a big tank in empire at war
The Galactic Republic (Clone Wars Era) vs The covenant
I really like these videos.
Firstly without a doubt Thrawn is a fantastic Star Wars Admiral one of the best. But in context I think it goes without saying the new republic aren't victorious, the seniority of the officer s and pilots had been living and breathing on survival tactics during the rebellion and living to tomorrow is not glorious always but is a victory.
That being said the Empire and remnants have usually been backed by superior numbers and "mysterious" reserve forces. Any time the Empire (or remnants) don't literally destroy all of their opponents in battle seems like losing. With supurior numbers, resources and with the brilliance of Thrawn added here it doesn't feel like a victory for Thrawn either.
I like to believe Thrawn could literally have had the same results with half the numbers because of his tactical aptitude.
Still you're kicking but with these videos keep them coming! :D
Hey ecks I love your channel and I really love theses videos were you analyze balltles and tactics how you are well and keep making theses grate videos 😀
The use of the interdictor cruisers in this way was so brilliant.
Eckhartsladder you are my favourite UA-camr I respect you so much please keep doing what u do man !!!!
That thing you do with your dog at the end is hilarious!
Nice vid eck I rly love these battle break downs
I've been really enjoying the Star Wars Battle Breakdown Series, hearing you describe the battles with the visual ques paints an amazing picture of the battles. This one might of been my favorite so far, Thrawn is a genius!
Love the ending shot of Thrawn from Tie Fighter.
Just started getting int these videos - thanks for giving the love to Star Wars Legends, it's really nice to revisit the memories in this way!!
These battle breakdowns were a great idea. Also, never change your outro
Dark Helmet vs Darth Vader (2 millionth attempt)
Vader clearly wins. Obi-wan already burned off Vader's testicles, so Dark Helmet's greatest power has no effect on him. Otherwise it would be a much closer fight.
Bruh. The dog at the end. It's KILLING ME. lollllll
This is amazing
Thrawn is the Rommel of Star Wars
honestly
Except for the fact that he actually met his counterpart (Ackbar) in battle, unlike Rommel and Patton, who never faced.
True
More like Horatio Nelson or Yi Sun Shin
Rommel is overrated, Thrawn is like the combination of Guderian and Manstein, the real geniuses
Yuuzhan vong world ship vs high charity
That ending gets me every time
timothy zhan really is a genius
Awesome episode! Sound tactics by both commanders.
Really like these battle breakdowns 👍
A battle breakdown of the Battle of Ebaq 9 would be awesome
Hey man love the vids keep up the good work
I love your videos. You should do a episodic series featuring most space and ground battles,
I'm reading the last command now and I'm loving it
I literally just started readying the last command this morning. I started the series last week.
I also probably need to get a new copy of the graphic novel, as my old one lost the cover and some inside pages.
Damn this was way more inteesting then i thought thanks eck !
I loved the Thrawn Trilogy books!
The battles were described so well. (detailed enough to give a comprehensive picture, but not so bogged down in detail that your own imagination couldn't take the Director's chair)
Also, it does a great job of establishing just what sorts of assets the New Republic has in Garm. A very clever and even inventive tactical leader. (creating the A-wing slash on the fly) But who is also very attentive. While he is definately NOT on Thrawn's level, and lacks his predictive abilities, he is not someone you can trick with the same ploy TWICE. (being WAS the one to identify the Thrawn Pincer as it was about to be deployed against Couroscant.)
Of course, even in this Thrawn "one ups" him. Immediately identifying the change of tactics of Couroscant's defenses when Garm is put in charge, and even accurately guessing that it was Garm whom the Republic had put in charge!
All-in-all, a great way to convey, in the literary sense, that the New Republic IS powerful, DOES have very capable people (outside the central Heroes), and is NOT completely helpless . . . . while STILL making it clear that they are still outmatched!
Love your channel! ❤️
Thanks for the explanation Eck! I was really confused as to what was happening in the battle. I thought the Orthavan was attempting to ram the Interdictor.
I also thought the interdictor was "catapulting" reinforcements from hyperspace.
i just love this new endcredit
The dog at the end tho
These breakdown videos are awesome
Thrawn is such an interesting character. He's presented so brilliantly, and his character maintains a level of threat consistently. His death only came at the hands of his bodyguard- no one could defeat him in battle.
I think one of the key idea's behind the 'Slash' was that the heavier and slower X-wings shield the lighter faster A-wings with their overlapping shields. I only say this because in a later book Admiral Pellaeon uses an 'A-wing Slash' with Preybirds for X-wings and torpedoes for A-wings and comments on the overlapping shields and also, like you said, the hidden signature.
About the A-Wing Slash, I always thought it was aimed to leave a clear attack vector for the A-Wings against the fighter screen, not against the cruisers. As far as I could understand, the TIEs follow the X-Wings, leaving a "turkey shoot" for the A-Wings, and with the fighter screen disintegrated, the X-Wings would attack the cruisers freely. Awesome video!
Thrawns so awesome, I wish we could watch a new star wars film trilogy based on the event of the thrawn books
I love the fact that the most watched part of the video is the Corgi-scratching.
Another great video on star trek lore
Please do some Battle Breakdowns for the battles in the Thrawn Ascendancy Trilogy!!
2nd Attempt: 2 Harrower Dreadnaughts vs 1 Imperial Star Destroyer. Please like and comment thank you 🙂
It was a great video, I feel that battle went mostly as expected for thrawn and he achieved his objectives, Garm did show that he was competent here.
Slight correction to the video, I think the name is "Garm Bel Bimbus", only a minor error but great video, keep up the good work. Love from the Patagonian deserts
This is awesome and you are awesome ech
Hey Eckharts I just wanted to thank you I'm a middle schooler who recently got the most creative awards for my stories and I use your and other videos for ideas so thx
Fantastic video
Cool thoughts and insights!!!
Great video! I'd love to see you get with some 3D animators and recreate this one.
In military this tactic is call "the hide reserve tactic" and was used a lot during diffenrente periods of history by the most outstandings generals, also sometimes if one of your subourdinate don't know that this move is underperforming it can end very badly, see the battle o f Borodinoo
I'm a bit confused, I thought A-Wings were designed as interceptors, ie to fight and destroy enemy fighters. How effective could they have been on larger ships? I don't imagine they would have posed any real threat to the star destroyers attacking the cruiser.
As most Rebel/New Republic Star fighters, A-wings do have a multirole capability, in this case it come in the form of having up to 12 Concussion Missiles in each A-wing fighter.
So imagine a squadron of twelve A-wings unloading all the missiles on a Victory Star Destroyer, while engaged with an MC80 cruiser.
That's 144 concussion missiles the Victory suddenly have to deal with, on top of the barrages of turbo/Ion cannon comming from the MC80 cruiser.
🤔🤔🤔
I cant wait for when/if you cover the fall of Coruscant from the Yuzzhan Vong War
Something sounds different about his voice. Is it clearer?
Ethan Rose New microphone or maybe he improved on the quality
I'd love to see a clone wars battle breakdown!
Foot reveal at 250,00?
I'm nearly finished reading the last command, thrawn is awesome.
love this series, but just one small detail of constructive criticism:
would it be possible to color coordinate the outlines or full shape of the top down ship icons you used in future videos? at some points I found it slightly confusing especially when two factions make use of similar ships (dreadnaughts in this case). it would just make it that much easier at a glance for the audience to understand the battle situation from a graphic standpoint. otherwise, keep up the good stuff, definitely one of my favorite channels out there.
You did a very good job and I believe it's pretty accurate
Awsome video
That title broke my tongue
Please consider doing a battle breakdown of Halo UNSC Naval battles against the Covenant.
Nice job Eck. One might say it was artistically done... ;)
I thought it would never happen. Im happy now
While Turkana may have had a solid showing of Mon Cal Cruisers, most Alliance/New Republic Task Forces had just 1-2 Star Cruisers at their core with a number of escorting frigates, corvettes, and/or gunships. Something else to note is that unlike the Empire, the New Republic didn't have thousands of sailors lying around to man their dreadnoughts right off the bat, which is why they usually converted their dreadnoughts into assault frigates. It's likely that a number of Star Cruisers and Bel's original six dreadnoughts, along with other ships as reinforcements, made up the bulk of the New Republic ships present. The responding force that Iblis commanded may have even been the New Republic's latest iteriation of the Rapid Response Task Force.
Suggestion for a new series: Picking capital ships either from suggestion or your own list you discuss their role in chat, their strengths and weakness, etc just like a vs video but then also describe how you think the faction that owns the ship missused or used to it's full potential and what you would change in their use in combat
Garm bel Iblis is my favorite Star Wars Legends character, and I like the interesting tactics used so I enjoy both the battle and the breakdown. I had never considered the idea that Garm's fleet wasn't in the fight from the beginning, or that Thrawn was trying to lure New Republic reinforcements into a trap.
I never liked the fleet makeups shown in the novel though. I vastly prefer corvettes or frigates to heavy cruiser and Star Destroyer scale vessels so I was disapointed that the smallest capital ships mentioned in the battle were Dreadnaught class.
In West End Games' The Last Command Sourcebook, there was also an old Golan platform in orbit of Qat Chrystac since the first years of the Galactic Civil War. It might be possible, though unlikely, that this platform was destroyed by the New Republic.
I recommend a breakdown of the Battle of Atallon.
Thrawn. My favorite non-force user in SW
I love these videos 😊
Love your new outrow
You should do a canon video about what if thrawn remained in the empire during the battle of yavin to jakku
Thrown is like that one guy from the chess team that everyone laughs at till he starts kicking everyone’s ass.
This battle was rather important because it is the first time the Thrawn Pincer is used, as well you see Bel Iblis' tactical genius for the first time.
Could you possibly do the biggest vs ever? I wish for you to select 4 fleet commanders for the entire emperial fleet ( everything to the last tie fighter ) and the entire rebel fleet with of course their four fleet commanders. I will give the rebels this: no Death Stars and no plot armor force moves that destroys entire fleets everything else is fair game
Sorry forgot this part: I know you are burnt out on vs but think about it this way: the final vs for the rebels and emperials to end it all. I’m looking forward to this video!
man i love these videos especially of the Legendsverse, but I would say the Thrawn pincer while an excellent strategy up front has one flaw in that while it allows the Empire to bring ships to specific spots to initiate their attacks, the best way to counter it for the Republic is to not send in all of the reserves immediately and then when the Interdictor lights it's grave projectors, send a comm to the rest of the reserves to fly in on a vector that would pull them out in range of the interdictor. use Thrawn's strategy against him.
Loving these battle breakdowns to death, especially these more visceral, small-craft-heavy encounters.
Battle of Ryloth, perhaps? It's a nice big one, with some tactics on both sides. You haven't done a clone-wars era battle yet either.
Go over the covenant tactics during the fall of reach please!
Best transforming fighter:
