I did some calculation from the imperial handbook. The Death Star housed 2,799,400 personnel, 27,608 secondary weapon systems and 15,264 starships and vehicles, almost half of which were TIE fighters. (7000) The Emperor should’ve funded Thrawn’s TIE fighter program instead of the Death Star, because now the Empire’s down all those resources, not to mention Grand Moff Tarkin, a personal favorite of Palpatine.
The only thing that surprises me about it is that he would want so many ISD's. I am surprised that he didn't trade with other fleet commanders to get smaller smarter ships for some of those ISD's.
@@power-armoured_german9856 sure it's a fantastic Capital Ship and in fleet to fleet battle is a killer, unfortunely is totally unsuited for the role given her in the Galactic Civil war as she is to expensive and need too many men and frankly they have hardly enough of them as the Galaxy is immense and to fight that kind of war you need something of more mobile and cheap to mantain like the light cruiser of Rebels and Mandalorian
There was a part of me hoping all through reading Dark Force Rising (and a "retcon" while watching Rebels) that Palpatine would have given Thrawn a second Executor class dreadnought and a fleet to conquer wild space (maybe in pursuit of some force channeling artifacts), kind of like the Musashi to Vader's Yamato.
Thrawn’s tactical skill came from studying the culture and art of his Target, learning how they react to things. Such as sneaking a cloaked vessel into a planet’s atmosphere before showing himself, so that the planetary shield appeared to be ineffective against his weaponry. He knew the race he was facing would immediately and unequivocally surrender if they thought their defenses were useless. Literally took a planet with one single turbo laser blast.
That’s from legends, right? Didn’t that trick only work because he had the clone of C’boath on his side, and the Dark Jedi used the Force to help the crews of the different vessels coordinate?
The ISD I's actually have half decent point defense systems, that's why Thrawn favoured the Chimera to any ISD II, he knew the Rebels and he knew of their hit and run roles, that was a large reason as to why he was so effective, he knew the rebels and used the weapons necessary to defeat a mobile force.
Thrawn's 7th Fleet reminds me of the Coruscant defense Fleet during the Clone Wars, the Kuat Ship Yards defending the unfinished Eclipse class Star Dreadnought, 2nd Death Star fleet... and the Supremacy Mega class Star Dreadnought Fleet. On the other hand... for me on Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption... I mostly had one mega fleet that had the 2nd Death Star and at least 10 of each ship types in the fleet... and the score was around 250... that's massive with Grand Moff Tarkin taking command of the fleet with 6 space fleet commanders
Thrawn was really tactical, reasonable, and just truly smart. But he lost many fights in Star Wars Rebels, because many of his officers failed to co operate with his plans.
Yeah I feel like it made a lot of sense and didn't discount Thrawn as an enemy. When left to his own devices, his plans worked and he nearly destroyed the Rebellion on Atollon. The show laid the groundwork, showing how the Rebellion early on gained a good bit of ground because of Imperial incompetency. Many high-ranking Imperials aside from Thrawn and Kallus underestimated the Rebels and didn't take them as a serious threat. Thrawn at the end of the day was beaten fairly because Ezra used what he had no knowledge of, his main weapon, in against him.
Thrawn was the only Imperial I routed for, I have mad respect for his character. I knew he had to lose, but I wasn't looking forward to seeing him fall.

0:22 I'm pretty sure Thrawn wasn't actually exiled. He was only pretending to be exiled so he could attract and sneak onto an imperial ship. He was probably doing this as part a mission by the Chiss to understand the Empire.
No he was Exile because the Chiss needed to blame someone. But it was Thrawn and Ba'kif plan as well so Thrawn can go out and find The Galatic Empire and ask for help from the threat of the Brisk.
Can't wait to see a live action Thrawn in Star Wars. Also, would you ever consider doing a video on Obi-Wan and his different lightsabers? I think it would be an interesting idea to look into, especially with the Kenobi show starting soon. Keep being awesome!
I'm looking forward to seeing him in live action too but I just pray that they use the voice he had in rebels. it's just so monotone, calm and just chilling. even if they use a different actor as the face and then voiceover using the actor in rebels. it would be perfect

@@oXRaptorzXo Palpatine comes back with an insanely large fleet of new Star Destroyers, and shows that he hasn’t given up his obsession with attaching planet-killing super-lasers to his ships. It’s totally Dark Empire.
The 7th Fleet was not too large for Thrawn to control. In fact, I like how he would not expose his entire fleet in one assault or campaign. He was like a space version of the sand people. He likes to hide his fleet's numbers until it is too late. He also liked using unorthodox strategies like the Marg Sabl maneuver. In all, he was like Sherlock Holmes in space when solving issues the empire needed to take care of.
I remember in the old EU a sector fleet was generally 32 victory class/ISDs plus an unspecified number of smaller frigates, assault cruisers and smaller. At least for the core sectors. Admittedly it's not as easy to wrap your head around all those ships and associated fighters in the various games but these smaller fleets don't mesh as well with how the Empire overkills everything, everytime.
Could you do a video about what would happen if the Jedi were successful in stopping Order 66 and Palpatine? I’m just imagining the chaos that would ensue with the power vacuum in the Senate, the Separatists reorganizing, and the clone troopers at risk of being tossed aside earlier than they were, if only by a few months to a few years earlier. I would imagine the only good thing that would happen right away would be the Jedi Order saving their reputation.
They STILL wouldn't and didn't have a reconstituted, well trained and we'll equipped personal non Clone Army of their own.. so toss the whole army out is too basically automatically lose the war... The Seps NEVER knew they was being played as a sham anyways so they'd not stopped they'd just steamrolled it all an took over. Most rest sounds alright but the Clones woulda stuck till end of the war. Just in Palpatine's absence there's not much of a dictatorship or alot more worse orders then "66"
If you knew about the first book, you'd know he chose her not because he wanted to be around her especially when he suspected she blew up a city, but he needed her at the time. But at that point she started to outlive her usefulness.
I personally think that there should of been more Tie Defenders as they were so much better than the standard Tie Fighter as for the size of his fleet I think it was just right for someone with his battle style
Unfortunately his tie defenders needed funding, and priority was given to the Death Star, despite the director’s assistant seeing the power and efficiency of the defenders in action against the Grysk warships
@Jack Der Hauptmann💀 interesting idea but there is a problem with that if you remember that all of the prototypes and the people that were working on it joined up with the Rebellion so he wouldn't of been able to get them the same is pretty much said for the Y wing still great suggestion
In Legends Admiral Zarin was supposedly responsible for creating the cheaper TiE AVENGER (from the TiE Advanced) and for modifying the TiE Defender for mass production. Since appears that Zarin found was to make both starfighters cheaper and easier to make. Which is why they were later intended to replace all TiE fighters.
Love the star wars info as always, FYI I made it to Poland and am successfully volunteering in Krakow helping Ukrainian refugees. Thanks again for the lead and pointing me in the right direction!
He was also given control of a prototype anti-fighter called the Lancer which did not appear in the show. But it had 22 quad rapid-fire laser cannons, anti-fighter missiles and cluster bombs.
i was always curious as to why Thrawn never had any lancer class ships in his fleet, would have thought he would jump and the chance to add a good number of these ships to bolster his anti fighter defenses for his fleet, especially when dealing with a more mobile fighter dependent rebellion.
Star Wars has the worst tactics. On the side of rebel command they wasted what ships they had trying to beat a larger force when they could of gone any direction the forward.
@@GeorgeWashingtonLaserMusket I think the battle at the start of Revenge of the Sith has ships in a more 3D battle. Then of course you've got the original Clone wars (The Tartakovsky one) which has I think the same battle but the ships are all in different positions as opposed to Ep3 where they're just on a different levels but all the right way up.
Isn't this because Thrawn is part of the twelve Grand Admirals, so he has more then average forces? Wish Lucasfilm incorporated more of the legends lore. Parts of legends lore was indeed flawed but still pretty cool.
It's more on Thrawn being more comfortable in using less massive ship in exchange for extreme flexibility, again, he's born and raised to fight a naval guerilla warfare.
@@nebunezz_r Thrawn always gave me the vibe, that he likes to have unusual, unused or rare ships or droid, just because opponents would not know how to deal with them.
Actually when Thrawn first appears in the books he had mostly victory class star destroyers because they were quicker an cheaper to build so he could have an use many of them and gave him a better tactical advantage
In the 90's Tie Fighter game, which featured Thrawn rising from Vice Admiral to Grand Admiral, his fleet featured Imperial Star Destroyers, Victory Star Destroyers, Interdictors, and Nebulon B Frigates.
It seems like Thrawn was given a cumbersome unwieldy battle hammer or axe while he was more used to nimble weapons like a longsword or a rapier, but being a good commander and a skilled fighter, he managed to do his best with tools he's been given.
Okay, so I'm not read up on Canon as opposed to Legends, but regarding the ISD-1 vs. ISD-2 and their differences at around the 6:50 timestamp: There are several additional differences in Legends regarding the ISD-2, the most notable of which were replacing the heavy dual turbolaser batteries on either side of the bridge with octuple-turbolaser batteries. Additionally, they featured more powerful shields, a reduction in what few point defense batteries existed on the ISD-1, and (in some sources, it's not always consistent) swapped out ion cannons for additional turbolasers. Different games and media have had different interpretations but it seems like the ISD-1 was an all-rounder (as much as the Empire made all-rounders in their capitals, anyways), while the ISD-2 was definitively meant to engage in ship-to-ship warfare. While dual heavy turbolasers are deadly in their own right, *most* media has portrayed the octuple turbolaser batteries as being especially deadly in capital ship battles.
Perhaps Palpatine should have accommodated Thrawn's talents better and allowed him to design and command a fleet which he was capable of using to his maximum advantage. Assigning Thrawn as an elite hunter-exterminator of rebel cells and forces would be the most effective use of a mobile fleet admiral of his caliber.
star destroyer carried an imperial wing which was 72 TIE fighters and 6 support shuttles. the difference between a ISD 1 and an ISD 2 was the isd 2 traded the majority of its ion cannon load out for for heavy turbo laser batteries.....
If Thrawn would have been in command of the imperial fleet during ESB or ROTJ, then the rebellion would have seriously been in a huge pile pf Bantha Poodoo.
Tarkin & Thrawn were the 2 most gifted tacticians in the Imperial Navy. They are both similar in so many ways. I don’t even know who’s smarter. I read Tarkin. Good book. I’m up to the last novel in the Ascendancy trilogy. Check it out.
Isn't it strange how Trawn's favourite ship was the interdictor which stops smaller fleets from running away but he is used to fighting w larger fleets in his years with the Chiss fleet.
Thrawn was big on having his men supplied appropriately, with effective gear to carry out missions. He wasn't big on "canon fodder/disposable numbers" way most higher up Imperials treated their rank and file.
While true; its also unlikely we would of seen a ship like the resurgent. And Considering his age, I doubt he would of lived to the sequels (Considering he was probably in his mid to late 40s, and then stack up 34 years ontop)
Of any one in the Imperial Navy deserving of a SSD, it’s Thrawn. I’ve wondered why, as a grand admiral he didn’t have a Super Star Destroyer as his flagship. Was this personal preference? Or was it related to how he tended to frown on the bigger=better Tarkin doctrine?
yeah, Thrawn was big on more smaller, but capable ships, then few big ones. Number gave him possibilities of tactics, while big ship are, usually sitting ducks, 1 system at a time.
Some of the ship lengths and classifications mentioned in the video i think are a bit off. I might be wrong, but from what i know, the Arquitens is exactly 325m long.. and the Immobilizer class SD is misclassified. The real classification is "Immobilizer-418 class heavy cruiser", and its built on the hull of a Vindicator class heavy cruiser, making it exactly 600m long.
Originally, the Chimaera was one of the ships that survived the Battle of Endor, and Thrawn chose it when he came from the Unknown Regions. And the Dreadnaughts originally were the first transport that escaped Hoth only scaled up.
What? Chimera wasen't in endor, nor anywhere while the empire collapsed he was in the unknown regions, He didn't pick it either it was assigned to him uppon his promotion to comodore. Take the fun and read the books.
when I played Starwars rebellion (the old game) I usually skipped building the death star and focused on tie defenders and lancer cruisers, which pretty much nullified the rebel's advantage of insanely good fighter units. early game I had to play defensively because the rebels just had too much mobility and the starfighters were so good that my star destroyers were pretty much dead meat after I lose the fighter screens, but after I reach the tie defender researcher, the empire suddenly becomes just as mobile as the rebels and the already better capital ships get to finally shine when they are not being gang R***ed by swarms of X AND Y wings.
Imperial IIs had more firepower than Imperial Is. Their broadside duel mounted turrets where replaced with octuple mounted turbolasers and they had much better forward facing firepower compared to the Imperial Is.
Thrawn's philosophy was reflected best. 1. He believed that the ISD was one of the best warships to be ever deployed by the Empire. You don't need bigger ships, just build more of them. 2. The ISD's weakness is the TIE Fighter. The starfighter is too weak, reducing the ISD to a powerful battleship vulnerable to starfighter attack. His TIE Defender was designed for the best pilots and save experience from being lost. 3. Thrawn was very much against the Death Star project. Using enormous resources to control or dominate a sector could have been used to build more star destroyers and TIE Defenders to pursue insurgents and enforce every sector in the galaxy.
Thrawn in the EU (Legends) Was way cooler and scarier in the Novels. He'd make his plans due to a people's artwork. Soo much so that Captain Pellaeon used to compair Admiral Dalla's plans to how Thrawn would do it. Kinda belittleing her, to her face. "That's not how Grand Admiral Thrawn would do it"
The newer Thrawn trilogy is considered Cannon I though. And he's still the same old Thrawn in there, probably even more sympathetic because of the backstory and the Chiss ascendancy connection.
Man you have Wynn Dorvan voice! 3:06 oh, but he did! There's this old saying "with great power comes great responsibility", but what what if you have "power, unlimited power"..? And this is what happened to ole' Palps - he was so crushed under the weight of all his responsibility, that he didn't foresee his right hand man taking him out when he least expected it ;)
While the Imperial 7th Fleet was large it was way too light on smaller combat ships. (i.e. the patrol cutters, frigates, and light cruisers) So it was very limited in its ability to use such smaller forces and ships as Tripwire Fleet Defence. (i.e. ships of negligible combat value but whose sudden loss would indicate where enemy forces are operating in strength.) thus giving the Ships of the Line a warning of where to look for the enemy to pin down, Hold in place and then destroy said forces.
Well it's more or less the problem of the entire imperial armed forces, they have the function of scare people in submission with a big show of force and aggrade Palpy and his cronies egos...not being functional
MY GOOD SIR ID LIKE TO POINT OUT the ISD I and II are actually much different than just the deflector shield array. The ISD II carries octuple barbette turbolasers rather than the heavy twin turbolasers plus an ion Cannon that the ISD 1 carries. :) Edit: also forgot, the ISD II doesn't carry a point defense laser system, the ISD I does
Allen have you started any series about what happened after the fall of the second Death Star? I mean Thrawn I believe would have went after a shipyard and a piece of the Galaxy.
Though needing some twinks, I really want to make more of Tie Fighter PC game canon. One twink, Admiral Karyn Faro will have to replace Thrawn in game. Which makes the last mission of defeating Zaarin in the unknown territories a nice stepping stone to a certain reunion. And if Ezra Bridger met a very minor dark acolyte who had pretty good reasons not to trust the dark side and was a pilot second only to Vader.. that would be interesting too.
I heard it was just because Thrawn was overcompensating for some personal "shortcomings", and in "A Galaxy Far, Far Away", he couldn't find an H1 Humvee, or a dually monster truck.
Everyone should read the original heritage of the character thrawn, wich is heir to the empire! THAT should be made into movies^^ Maybe the best story in all of Star Wars.
honestly no because each star destroyer has an esscort so he prob commanded closer to 300 warships. and than admiral constantines sector fleet wasx also prob few hundred strong cause it covers a sector with 1,000 systems

I did some calculation from the imperial handbook. The Death Star housed 2,799,400 personnel, 27,608 secondary weapon systems and 15,264 starships and vehicles, almost half of which were TIE fighters. (7000)
The Emperor should’ve funded Thrawn’s TIE fighter program instead of the Death Star, because now the Empire’s down all those resources, not to mention Grand Moff Tarkin, a personal favorite of Palpatine.
The only thing that surprises me about it is that he would want so many ISD's. I am surprised that he didn't trade with other fleet commanders to get smaller smarter ships for some of those ISD's.

Victory class ISD retrofitted with harpoons perhaps?
@@banzeyegaming2234 exactly, it’s still a super fun idea tho :)
Because Thrawn is one the best Star Wars villains ever existed.

The Supremacy or whatever isn't canon.

I always though it was because he was a grand admiral and won many battles
The 7th Fleet was not too large for Thrawn to control. In fact, I like how he would not expose his entire fleet in one assault or campaign. He was like a space version of the sand people. He likes to hide his fleet's numbers until it is too late. He also liked using unorthodox strategies like the Marg Sabl maneuver. In all, he was like Sherlock Holmes in space when solving issues the empire needed to take care of.
Because he knew his enemy, culturally and personally. That on top of his analytical mind made him near impervious.
That sounds like a great video.
Just in Palpatine's absence there's not much of a dictatorship or alot more worse orders then "66"
If the late Governor Arynda Pryce hadn’t screwed up on Lothal, she and Thrawn would’ve been a power couple.
I bet Pryce would overstep her bounds and piss off Thrawn at some point.

He didn't even wanted her
I personally think that there should of been more Tie Defenders as they were so much better than the standard Tie Fighter as for the size of his fleet I think it was just right for someone with his battle style

I would agree. The lives of those pilots have value, especially if they're experienced combatants.
I just started re reading Thrawn Alliances yesterday. What perfect timing for a Thrawn video!
Can’t wait to see more of Thrawn!! Great video as always!

Isn't this because Thrawn is part of the twelve Grand Admirals, so he has more then average forces? Wish Lucasfilm incorporated more of the legends lore. Parts of legends lore was indeed flawed but still pretty cool.
I think it's more that Thrawn had no issue using different types of ships. His fleet is pretty unique in that sense.
And then he acquires most of the Katana fleet as well.
In the 90's Tie Fighter game, which featured Thrawn rising from Vice Admiral to Grand Admiral, his fleet featured Imperial Star Destroyers, Victory Star Destroyers, Interdictors, and Nebulon B Frigates.
Thrawn just used anything he could get his hands on.
It seems like Thrawn was given a cumbersome unwieldy battle hammer or axe while he was more used to nimble weapons like a longsword or a rapier, but being a good commander and a skilled fighter, he managed to do his best with tools he's been given.
They better not massacre our boy! Don’t forget his nuance and loyalty to the Chiss!!!!!

Okay, so I'm not read up on Canon as opposed to Legends, but regarding the ISD-1 vs. ISD-2 and their differences at around the 6:50 timestamp:
There are several additional differences in Legends regarding the ISD-2, the most notable of which were replacing the heavy dual turbolaser batteries on either side of the bridge with octuple-turbolaser batteries.

Just seen Thrawn in the trailer for Ashoka series coming! We finally getting him in life action!!

Thrwn had no problems controlling his Fleet . What he COULDN'T control was an Ezra Bridger with an Axe to Grind .

Thats legends...
when I played Starwars rebellion (the old game) I usually skipped building the death star and focused on tie defenders and lancer cruisers, which pretty much nullified the rebel's advantage of insanely good fighter units.
early game I had to play defensively because the rebels just had too much mobility and the starfighters were so good that my star destroyers were pretty much dead meat after I lose the fighter screens, but after I reach the tie defender researcher, the empire suddenly becomes just as mobile as the rebels and the already better capital ships get to finally shine when they are not being gang R***ed by swarms of X AND Y wings.

Once we get to see Thrawn again, will we see the Grysk? Also, what will be the condition of both the 7th fleet and Chiss. when we see him?
The Arqutiens class was actually 325 meters

While the Imperial 7th Fleet was large it was way too light on smaller combat ships. (i.e. the patrol cutters, frigates, and light cruisers) So it was very limited in its ability to use such smaller forces and ships as Tripwire Fleet Defence. (i.e. ships of negligible combat value but whose sudden loss would indicate where enemy forces are operating in strength.) thus giving the Ships of the Line a warning of where to look for the enemy to pin down, Hold in place and then destroy said forces.
Well it's more or less the problem of the entire imperial armed forces, they have the function of scare people in submission with a big show of force and aggrade Palpy and his cronies egos...not being functional

the ISD I and II are actually much different than just the deflector shield array. The ISD II carries octuple barbette turbolasers rather than the heavy twin turbolasers plus an ion Cannon that the ISD 1 carries.
