Always loved the evolution of the minimalist design of the V wing and its transitional design aspects showing the evolution from jedi starfighter to empire superiority fighter with its cutting costs on life support and other options. Personally I would've loved to see more of this ship in action and I'm glad we saw more in The Bad Batch and perhaps we'll see a Mark 2 some day.
BF2017 featured a modified V-Wing with hyperdrive and shielding in the Resurrection campaign. It featured a nice black finish in addition to a modified N-1.

I find it really cool how the republic used different types of fighters. The V-19 kinda feels like the F-16 of republic fighters. Mass produced and super nimble, but smaller and not as survivable.
You brought up an excellent point I never considered beforehand, after years of fighting the droids, it seems, in more ways than 1, that The Republic & later The Empire gradually began adopting many of the tactics that were being used against them by the droids, including starfighter swarms and large amounts of relatively disposable infantry. It just makes me realize that the Empire was not only geared up for a war it wasn't fighting, (capital ship to capital ship for example), but geared up to fight a war it had already won.
They were mainly gearing up to awe and intimidate, since their military physically couldn't be everywhere. A Star Destroyer could quickly level a city with turbolaser fire or more precisely with TIE bombers, and it could kill pretty much any civilian ship by grabbing it with a tractor beam and pounding it to pieces. Remember, 99+ percent of the people and ships they dealt with were civilians without much in the way of weaponry. We just see the ships and soldiers the Alliance was able to scrape together at any given time. And the Rebels had to beg, borrow, steal and highly modify the weapons they could get. It was more important to the Empire to keep the mega-corporations and the resource providers in line. They were looking to conquer by outproducing and outlasting the Rebels. Unfortunately for them, the fear got replaced by anger and determination by some very capable beings.
Funny thing, in starfox assault. The arwings fuselage was similarly shaped as the v wing. Nintendo would make a fighter for the space battle over corneria using the arwings fuselage but with wings similarly shaped as the v wing. It looked very much like v wing.

But is durable as a tank. And can boost to very high speeds. It also has life support. So the cornerian fighter is probably what I would choose between the two.

The V-Wing for me is basically a "what would happen" when you use the design of the RZ-1 A-Wing, & the Mass Production of the Tie Fighter, & mix it together.

I know some people before said that the Arwings and Cornerian Starfighters of Star Fox Assault are very similar to the Nimbus V Wing (with the latter being basically a clone of it), but here's the thing: _Star Fox: Assault_ was released over three months before _Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith_ (February 14th vs May 19th). So either someone at Nintendo/Namco saw production material for RotS and added the Cornerian Starfighter as a reference, they're both based on a previous ship or it's just a coincidence.
When I first heard about this Starfighter, I got a little confused since I've heard of the V-Wing used by the Rebels in Legends. Don't know why The V-Wing from the classic Battlefront 2 game is one of my favorite variations of it

Okay so to fighters don’t have life support so the pilots need sealed suits but what about when Poe and Finn took the tie fighter from the first order and didn’t have helmets
I personally interpreted the "Besh" and "Esk" variants of the V-Wing as the solutions for the inconsistencies. The B version is the bomber seen in BFII, a fast-moving ground-attack vehicle designed to fly in, drop ordnance on a ground target, and then get out. The E version is the escort seen in Revenge of the Sith, which has been noted to have an in-built hyperdrive.
I just want to say that having things like large panels on fighters to dissipate heat because of the way heat and space work together is a detail that's pretty damn unimportant, but it shows care with the world that's being created. We got things like that with Lucas running things, but we get a single TIE that's able to take out all the gun emplacments on a Star Destroyer with JJ and KK doing things. No, I don't care that the Star Destroyer was surprised because it didn't expect one of it's own fighters to attack it, the thing still shouldn't have been able to do that, even with that model TIE being better than the old one. "Poe is the best pilot ever!" Yeah but Finn is a janitor. JJ sucks. KK sucks. Rian sucks twice (your name isn't rye-an if you spell it like that, you're ree-ann, just because your parents got cute with how they spelled your name because they thought they were being clever doesn't mean the rest of us have to change the way we say words, you made half a good movie, only the first part of Looper was any good, you suck).
One of my favorite Star Wars fighters. If you think about it, it's the perfect fighter for planetary defense forces. It is fast, shielded, and with the high rate of fire you don't have to be super accurate. It's also got an Astromech to help the pilot do things like fly and angle the weapons for firing. The mech can also be used after flying for maintenance and repairs, as well as to get the preflight done when the scramble alert goes out. Put in the bomb launchers and you have a low-end superiority fighter that can dogfight AND bomb larger targets.
id say the jedi interceptor was the true father of the TIE fighter, For forces sake you can hear the TIE sound when anikin and obiwan fly by venators in ROTS
There’s a bit of a discrepancy in the way it lands, in almost every piece of media it appears in, the wings are always in a different configuration when it lands, either landing on the tips in a convex shape or a concave one, or having the wings fold forward to reveal landing gear
This is the fighter design the empire should have used en masse. You could strip out the droid while keeping the shields, high firepower and great speed.

I suppose it's more the starfighter philosophy the empire adopted I have issue with. Technically the Eta-2 you see Anakin and ObiWan flying at the beginning of Episode 3 is the precursor to the Tie Fighter since it was developed alongside the Tie program in its early stages. Its deployment is probably what led to many of the features you see in the Tie. If anything the V-wing has more in common with the A-wing which would make its debut in Episode 6 since both craft were interceptors. The nail in the coffin for this debate is that Tie Fighter prototypes were first tested in 29bby. That is 7 years before the Clone Wars started(22 BBY) and 10 years before it ended(very late into 19BBY). The V Wing was first used in the 3rd year of the Clone Wars of 19BBY. TL;DR the V Wing can't be the precursor to the Tie Fighter since the Tie Fighter predates it by 10 years.
The problem is the same one that the Allies had in WWII, a very fast interceptor pinned down doing escort of slower bombers or heavily laden fighter-bombers sacrifices vital maneuverability. That's why the fighters were usually orbiting above the bomber groups and then dived down to attack the enemy fighters, and when the bombers headed home at least some of the escort fighters usually went hunting for the enemy planes around their airfields to pick off damaged planes and shoot them up on the ground. It's a numbers game. Kill their trained pilots and wreck their best planes. Of course the Rebels couldn't do that, since they were almost always outnumbered and out-produced. So they had to target Imperial strategic assets and morale.
@@kenle2 ARC-170s are quite agile though and you could send the V-Wings in first to do as much damage as possible while using the advantages of a V-Wing.
I really enjoy the V-wing. It certainly has had a lot of ambiguous attributes over the years. I'm still unsure of how the wing rotations work. Sometimes they depict the wing folding forward together and in the one wide shot clip here, the wings are folded backward. But then it also has the wings as landing gear feature where the whole thing stays open but rotates down. Are all of them true? Great video.
The V-Wing are the main fighter for the Republic on Battlefront: Elite Squadron on the PSP. I think because I have thousands of hours on that I grew to respect the fighter. It isn't a tie fighter. I'd say its better.

The Besh variant from the miniature game is to represent the bomber from BF2. I think the only source that gives them missiles is the FFG/Edge RPG.

@@kenle2 ARC-170s are quite agile though and you could send the V-Wings in first to do as much damage as possible while using the advantages of a V-Wing.

FFG Collapse of The Republic book, nice. These books got a lot of neat details and lore in them; let alone fun to play.
I really enjoy the V-wing. It certainly has had a lot of ambiguous attributes over the years. I'm still unsure of how the wing rotations work. Sometimes they depict the wing folding forward together and in the one wide shot clip here, the wings are folded backward. But then it also has the wings as landing gear feature where the whole thing stays open but rotates down. Are all of them true?

Got the 2006 lego V-wing it is a very nice starfighter it is my third favourite behind the ARC-170 Starfighter and X-wing Starfighter.

The V-Wing are the main fighter for the Republic on Battlefront: Elite Squadron on the PSP. I think because I have thousands of hours on that I grew to respect the fighter. It isn't a tie fighter. I'd say its better.
There was a recolor release of the V-Wing LEGO set that was an Imperial variant.
always loved this ship, madea great bomber and heavy interceptor. every since battlefront 2, no not the PoS ea version for the ps4. looked like a beefy jedi starfighter i love the look

I still find it hilarious they decided to make this ship the republics bomber in the old Battlefront II. That is the exact opposite of what this thing was supposed to be.
The v-wing is one of the main ships i fly in the original battlefront ll.

Looking at the V-Wing I would like to see a faction remove the hull plating for solar panels and use the extra power to feed the shields.
