I may be wrong, but I think this is basically the first time that the Empire had ever faced that many Jedi at once (not counting Operation Knightfall and immediate aftermath). There's a reason that Palpatine wanted the Jedi eradicated - without an army of Force users of his own, they'd be extraordinarily difficult to stop.
Michael Ramon thats true
Looks like Palp was AWARE of Jedi PIS powers...
Gotta' love the usual plot armor.
"No defenses? Deploy AT-ATs at once!"
"Sir, what about a Base Delta Zero?"
"Shoot that man in the head immediately!"
Just one of the many reason the callista trilogy is seen as some of the worst legends novels😂
Meanwhile Luke dies by projecting himself across the galaxy...

I have a love/hate relationship with the Force in Legends. On the one hand, some of the powers are pretty cool. On the other, they make the Jedi into generic superheroes, whereas in the movies, their powers were rather limited, so while a single Jedi could probably defeat any one on one opponent, for larger foes they needed to rely on their connection with the force to act as peacekeepers and negotiators.
I think I like the more under powered Jedi as a result. I like that being Force sensitive is far more a spiritual and enlightening power than it is raw superpowers, and while you can do cool things like jump really high or have limited pre-cognition and super reflexes, you can't take on an entire battle fleet in orbit.
Not all Jedi were that way. It's important to draw the difference that only few jedi would have that connection to the force (As opposed to Dark side users in general, to who it becomes easier to draw such power from the force).
But what are Midiclorians?
Yeah because Rey's Force powers aren't generic and overpowered at ALL.
Honestly, the Legends Force is a lot more balanced than people realize; not all Jedi--in fact, very few--had super reflexes, the ability to manipulate a mass populace, and so on.
One of my favorite quotes to really describe a Jedi goes roughly as follows: "No matter what, even if you manage to surprise a Jedi, they'll act all calm and say they were 'expecting you'. Like anyone believes that." and I, for the life of me, cannot remember where I read it. It implies that the average Jedi can still accomplish impressive feats, but were still 'human' and still capable of making mistakes.
Justafan IV Yeah it's fucking dumb.
I know this would be difficult, but can you breakdown what is by far the largest space battle in the entire franchise? *The* *Battle* *of* *Yuuzhan'tar!*

The Callista trilogy is probably guilty of a lot of its criticism (I'll have to read them again) but I think the only thing wrong with this battle is Pellaeon's opting for a ground based assault. I don't recall why he chose that route in the book.
I think the portrayal and use of the Force in this instance is actually all right, especially in light of what we see in the old EU (Sith Sorcery in the earlier eras, Palpatine's Essence Transfer and Force Storms, and if you are so inclined Vitiate's and Nihilus' draining powers). The application of Force Push on this scale is simply a larger version of what we've already seen.
I always considered the Force to be magic by another name; Star Wars is more science fantasy rather than science fiction anyway. That's why I've always taken in stride the powers exhibited in the Legends material, no matter how silly. It's also why I'm somewhat disappointed by the new stuff, it just makes the Force seems so much less than it is/was.
Just my two cents. And now, a joke!
"Let's take the Imperial fleet.... And PUSH it somewhere else!"
Schniedragon88 haha idk, Darksaber is okay, but I really dislike the other two
EckhartsLadder I don't blame you. I think I've just forgotten the egregious-ness.
EckhartsLadder Schniedragon88
So am I lucky that I have only read one of, the force powered artifical intelligence that Is somehow disconnected from the force, trillogy of books? Or am I missing anything?
stapuft only if you have an interest in actually finishing the books. Otherwise you can give em a miss; hit up Wookieepedia for the same info
Schniedragon88 not everything is on there, but I get your drift I guess, I just asked because darksaber was the first EU book I read, followed by the Jedi academy trillogy, and those are 4 of my favorite star wars books, I didn't even know there was a direct sequal to it (darksaber) untill today.
Still like Mara Jade much better than calista though.
Great video overall, a couple notes though.
Daala selected the Jedi as a target because while a threat she felt they wouldn't be as rough a fight as going for Coruscant because she felt her fleet needed an easy victory to both boost morale and cut their teeth on. Her fleet was a hastily cobbled together assortment of badly trained crew and troopers because it was mostly conscripts or fresh recruits due to the attrition from the years of civil war. Also they were not very good at working together due to being so recently reunified. Daala while an inspiring figurehead and administrator is an appalling tactician in battle because she lets her emotions rule her. When you combine this with the utter lack of experience with their opponent this is a recipe for disaster. The performance of the troopers, pilots and crew is evidence of how woefully unprepared they were for combat. Air and land didn't coordinate-which kept Daala's orbital bombardment from being effective, IDs were not enforced with the pilots-which would have kept Callista from infiltrating the Knight Hammer, Daala hit several of her allied Victory Star Destroyers with barrages from the Knight Hammer damaging them and adding to the chaos. The fact that a SSD and over 20 VSDs couldn't quickly defeat one MC90 and 4 Corellian Gunships is testament to the inefficiency of the fleet.
Grand Moff This comment should be higher up. I'm surprised some of these notes weren't in the video.
Here is the Real fun joke. Daala come up with all new war tactics that were way ahead of the time.
Talkin made the mistake of having Ack Bar around. Daala understood the theory, but Ack Bar knew how to use those tactics in the field. It sucks when the opposing team has Your play book.
if pelions fleet had not been pushed out of the system maybe they wouldnt fail
@@prestongarvey4080 again it came down to poor intel and an unprepared force that hadn't functioned cohesively in years. The execution of the plan was just a natural progression of things by that point.
@@willlauzon3744 yes, glassing the moon would certainly have been the best option. There was zero strategic point in garrisoning the moon other than symbolic value. Although personally as soon as it was revealed that the target plan was compromised, rather than unleashing it early but still to the letter, the target should have been altered.
.....Why not just Base Delta Zero?.... You had one job, Palleon!
Palleon was destined to Falleon. c:
Well, I believe if I remember correctly, many Imperial commanders feared and didn’t like using Base Delta Zero.
Kane123a
One job😂😂😂
They had a chance to completely wipe out the greatest threat to their empire's future in a single move.
I don't care if they didn't like using the Base Delta Zero, if there was one time that using it would be acceptable- *that was it.*
Rey will force crush death stars after reading " the force for dummies' next movie
Scott Murphy so funny 🤣
Scott Murphy
I don't get it.
Thor's Hammer Rey is super OP, so the joke here is that she'd be able to easily do something even more powerful that the feat in this video, with very little training.
LegoTurtle Brickfilms
Hmm I'm not impressed *Force pushes Rey into a buliding and throws a Star Destroyer at her*
It really is the lack of any training that pisses off fans. Luke didn't even really use the force in any great degree til ESB to grab his lightsaber. In ANH, all he really uses it for is knowing exactly when to push a button while evading Vader.
I love this battle. First I love the fact that they have to use the ground and forest as a way to defeat the initial invasion. Also I love the use of force powers. People crap on what happens but its such a amazing use of the force and one that comes at a huge cost.
RIP Colonel Ivan Cronus. Glory to Admiral Daala, a genius who couldn't show all her talent thanks to writers

I love this story because that dorsk 81 died from so much force energy, not only shows how magnificently, genuinely selfless he is, but it also spits in the face of Yoda's "do or do not there is no try" "size matters not" bullshit.
Stories like this help clarify the difference between what is and what isn't possible through the force, and that is good, without distinction between what is and isn't possible order is meaningless.
Very cool video, with very intresting content. I admire how much detail you put into your vids and i appreciate it, keep being great!
🙂
RIP Dorsk 81.
Such a sad, but brave death.
what kinda last name is 81
It is not really a last Name its a Kind of serialnumber. It means he is the 81st Version of the original Dorsk. On his homeworld they are all clones because they thought they already have reached the highes form of existence and wanted to keep it that way.
Love you eckheartsladder❤️❤️❤️ keep up the amazing work ❤️
Great video this is really cool and the force is powerful. Love your channel.
I can understand why some fans think this is OP, though I do think there are mitigating factors. First, this wasn't the power of one Jedi, this was the power of most of the Order at the time being combined, which I always thought was where the real strength of the Jedi should have been coming from. Combine that with the fact that it was still lethal to the person at the center, and it's not as OP as it seems on first glance
Jedi to OP please nerf

Nah there's no reason in doing that. It doesn't have any negative effects on the story infact it kinda drives it to be good. Think about it for a moment.
shit disney actually did that and retconned ledgends
Dude did u even read the patch note where they fucking annihilated 7/8 of their content it's actually pretty old like 2012 this ain't shit today gotta keep up with ur patch notes bruh 😣😣😥
Instead of balancing they just add a new faction immune to Jedi shenanigans and totally OP, friggin Vong.
Another great video! This is definitely one of my favorite UA-cam channels.
Eckhart, keep up the great Star Wars lore, I enjoy watching every vid you post!
This is an epic battle for sure. I've read Darksaber twice, once many years ago in high school and the second time recently. I think that Dorsk 81's use of the Force, funneling his power and that of the other Jedi knights', and his subsequent sacrifice, are more than reasonable. After all, when Luke cannot lift his X-wing from the Dagobah swamp, Yoda explains to him that nothing is too big or too small for the Force. Thirty Jedi knights working together and fighting for their lives and the survival of their kind could certainly succeed in "Force throwing" those Star Destroyers out of range of Yavin 4... just my two cents. ;-)
What I would have done, would be to bring in a small task force (two interdictors, a couple of frigates, and a carrier loaded with bombers/scout fighters) cut off escape routes through hyperspace, scout the bases, then use the bombers to eliminate them. No need to deploy capital ships like ISDs unless there are republic fleet assets on site.
8:48 I'm not a great strategist, but maybe to force the jedis out of their hiding spots. Ground forces can make the jedis leave their hiding places while air forces, like Tie fighters, can be the eyes in the skies, tracking where they're going. Again, I'm not a strategic genius, but from my limited knowledge on star wars ships and comparing them to real life aircrafts, this is what I THINK the imperial strategy was.
Finally, the Assault on Yavin, ty very much, and congratulations on 250,000 subs! Fav and the best SW youtuber ever ;)
Fallout prewar America Vs. Brotherhood of Nod at the start of the third Tiberium War
Pretty sure Pre-War America was struggling with a lack of resources to sustain themselves, and as such, C&C's faction would win, if slightly drawn-out due to how "invincible" power armor was portrayed to be in the Pre-War era.
and thus the reason for invasion
I remember reading this. 81 basically conjured a light side mini-force storm to just catapult a fuck ton of ISDs. Sad that we aren't likely to see such insane displays of force power in the disney canon.
I really would love to see the Battle of Coruscant , the 2nd Battle of Billbringi, or Borleias from the Yuzzhan Vong war covered.
It should be noted that the Jedi was only capable of what they did because the temple they were in was amplifying their power by several orders of magnitude. Also Luke wouldn't actually be a Grand Master for nearly 20 years after the events mentioned.
I remember reading this book when I was still a teen, such an enjoyable novel, the moment Dorsk 81 sacrifices himself and channels the full power of the Force is still one of favorite moments in Star Wars Legends
“And this is why a common soldier will never triumph against a Jedi, your military ‘tactics are nothing compared to the force”- Darth Traya
This was one of my favorite books out of the EU. Also one of the most memorable, along with the Yuuzhan Vong wars book series.
I like the book's insight on orbital bombardment in the way that the main target is only a tiny surface of the entire planet and the attacking ship doesn't always hit the target.
Barely saw the title of this video but I already knew what it was talking about because I read this book when it came out 20 years ago :)
Maaaan! I remember 'Darksabre' I had a copy of it back in the day! This was a nice 'blast from the past', Thanks!

Krogan vs Brutes [165th ask]
I think the Empire's biggest mistake was giving Daala command of an SSD. 17 VSDs lost, 1 SSD, 17 ISDs pushed several dozen AU by a mere thirty Jedi, countless lives lost by the Empire, and how many Jedi perished? One. That's right. ONE. I'm surprised Daala didn't become a joke sooner!
I love this moment and I'm glad your covering it. Though, I thought this was from I, Jedi.
The Second Battle of Yavin 4. The beginning of the Galactic Civil War was at Yavin and the end the Imperial Era was at Yavin.

LOVE these battle breakdown, think you could possibly do something simulair with groudbattles?
Do yuuzahn vong vs. the borg.
That's a new an interesting idea!
Commander Knight
I believe the Yuuzhan Vong could win if their fast enough before the Borg could adapt by overruning them with their numbers and aggressiveness. I don't think the Borg's micro machines would be enough against the Yuuzhan Vong's type of bio weapons.
Vong vivtory
The Borg would lose badly😒
The Vong would be assimilated, resistance is futile.
It would have only needed to send a single star destroyer( with the heaviest ordinance possible packed into every available cubic foot of interior space) at maximum velocity on a ballistic course towards the planet surface. The resulting impact would be devastating and in the chaos they could just glass the whole thing with a Base Delta Zero.
That force ability was ridiculous and I wish I could see it happen in a Star Wars anime series that focused on Luke and his Jedi Order
Admiral Daala is easily in my top 10 favorite Star Wars characters
Mark Samenfink easily! Darksaber was actually the first EU star wars book I read, followed by the Jedi academy trillogy, and to this day I still really like those 4 books, almost as much as the thrawn trillogy. But it has been a while since I read them, (darksaber and jat)
Do you prefer Admiral Daala or Ysanne Isard?
I think I prefer Daala overall but I really like them both
I hear you, they're both really cool characters. I think Daala is more sincere, though. Like, she actually believes in Imperial ideals and cares about the people under her command. Iceheart . . . is more of a cold-blooded killer. haha
Almost like she has a heart made of ice or something :^)
It is a pretty cool moment. Would've been cool if Disney had hired some actual Star Wars writers to give us cool moments like this instead of what we've gotten.
That Jedi knight will never be forgotten he will be remembered to the end of the Jedi order.
Great video
Well relly cool. Video eck i relly loved the wookie vs bruts from halo can we get some more like that
Sweet, thanks Eck!
If I had been advising Daala I would have told her to launch asteroids at Yavin IV while setting up Interdictors and a battle fleet to prevent any escape. If the Jedi used their little force wave trick to stop the asteroids I would dare them to do it again with the bombardment fleet, lol
"A few Victories escaped" summarizes the Empire as a whole pretty well ;)
Darksaber is one of my favorite books.
Idea: do an episode where you describe your “perfect fleet”, with access to ships from Star Wars, Halo, Mass Effect, and/or other sci-fi universes.
(21th try)
That was kickass!
Nothing is impossible with the force and when concreted it can accomplish miracles such as this
I think the force use matches palpatine's powet and stories of the sith/jedi of old. It illustrates how without a visible enemy the Jedi diminished during the years of peace. You hear stories similar to pushing the star destroyers in sith and Jedi legends.
Do a battle breakdown for the 2nd Battle of Geonosis
The power of plot armor can never be under estimated. :D
Really. I don't care how much the Jedi meditated, the planet was essentially undefended facing 17 ISDs, 1 SSD and 20 VSD. Planet should have been glassed.
The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant compared to the power of the Force.
I haven't read the book, but I think it's a little over the top that the jedi could PUSH the star destroyers.
especially since it was Jedi knights maybe I could believe grand master luke could.
Well this was the same timeline where Starkiller brought down a star destroyer from orbit by himself. Pretty ridiculous but it was possible in the universe.
Yeah but Starkiller pulled one from orbit so why not if the dude channelled so much through himself he died.
If he lived, I'd have a problem
Starkiller guided it down. It had broken off of a spacedock and was going to impact the factory he was in.
John Smith
Paul H
False, the SD was already falling to the surface, Starkiller first wanted to push it back (because SD was falling directly on him and his ship), but when that did not work, he pulled the already falling SD, to ground it before it falls on his head
I remember reading this book as a kid

I believe that I read these books 20 years ago, but I will have to read them again.
Ok to all those who say that this is overpowered keep in mind that 1). The jedi temple was originally constructed by a sith lord to enhance force abilities 2). 31 jedi combined their power to do this with one acting as the focus and 3). It killed the prerson who was the focus of the power
You should do battle breakdowns for the battle of holy terra during the hours heresy (fourth attempt) > it’s gonna be the biggest and epic battle you’ve ever covered
its fairly cool and has a good cost as the use of so much power kills the one who does it and it doesn't destroy the enemy just pushes them away -yet disables them, over all good idea
the bigger issue i have is that its so easy for one person to set off a blast that big that disables an ssd i would think that an ssd being a huge resource investment would have backups on top of backups for systems like this
Daala single handedly destroyer the most advanced SSD to ever be built 112 VSDs and 48 ISDs in a single battle
It’s honestly incredible, if it wasn’t for delvarus being a architectural genius designing the Night hammer the whole 100,000 member crew would have died
Moment of silence for the best warlord of them all
Delvarus
I have a different warlord in mind: Thrawn
Hey Eckhart, could you do a video to see if the empire could stop Thanos from getting the infinity gauntlet or something similar.
If the Empire was running like a well oiled machine during Admiral Daala's control, In Thrawn's hands it was a turbocharged digital masterpiece.
I think using the excerpts is a nice touch. Speaking of books are you going to continue your “what if” story?
Because the clone sacrificed himself by having the Jedi putting their power through him to create a massive force push
Nice video
"Master Skywalker, there are too many of them. What are we going to do?"
*ignites lightsaber*
Yeah, Pellaeon really dropped the ball on this one. An orbital bombardment would have been far better than a ground assault. He's usually a pretty great commander, but then even great commanders have off days(some of the most famous historical examples are Marlborough at Malplaquet, and Lee at Gettysburg).
I love this stuff
This reminds me of when Vader said “the power to destroy a planet is nothing compared to the power of the force”
You gotta love those crimson victories

I know barely anything about star wars and I'm to lazy to watch any movies but I still love these videos.
This is where Ep 7/8/9 should have been based!!!!
Admiral Daala would have been an awesome villain.
How about the mammoth mk2 from command and conquer vs the AT-AT for your next versus match you do.
can you go over delta formation because that was the question alex from star wars explained won the schmoedown? I think that would be cool
It's writing like this that makes legends so much better than the new canon movies.
One thing about Pellaeon, I don't think orbital bombardment would really be his style...
