It feels like one of two things is happening with Dragon Ball. Either they don’t want to move on from Goku, or they don’t know how to move on from Goku, and I think this more the latter. This looks like an attempt to make Goku and Vegeta weaker cause they might’ve figured out that power scaling has gotten absurd.
It's clear during the buu saga they gave up trying to move on from goku

Then just continue the story of Goku jr and Vegeta jr from GT, at least it'll be a clean slate in terms of ridiculous power scaling.
Goku is the fucking main character dog. It’s not like they’ve ever had another main character since the freakin’ 80s!!!! It’d be hard to sell a new direction now. I mean they obviously can’t kill him off, no one in DB ever dies forever 🤣 they’ve kinda hit a snag.

This is actually somethin Toriyama wanted to do. He has WAY more supervision & control over this than he EVER had wit super. It's an anniversary event for the 40 yr old manga & he & the animators R really puttin a LOT into this. Give it some time to C how it turns out

It's crazy to me how amazing Toei has been animating one piece and doing right by all the fans and then they're doing this to DragonBall
Toriyama is writing and designing and made the concept for this series . Toriyama started this project in 2021 , this is his passion what he likes to do , what he wants to do right now a series that brings back the adventure of the OG , and i am all for it because it will be different and more creative and nostalgic than what Dragon Ball has been for the last years

Nostalgia is the problem. There's nothing new and creative about seeing kid goku again using his old staff. If he wanted to do the whole young character adventure thing he already has young characters to do that with, goten and trunks. At this point I have higher hopes of the HxH manga returning rather than Dragon ball super
The crazy part about the "forms" for toys, you still missed a few. Fused zamasu, rage trunks, more blue Vegeta, omen Goku UI, and all the other forms for the other universe characters like kefla. Oh and broly himself has like 3 technically different forms.
You can say the same thing to Z aswell now count from Ssj and grades to till mystic include frieza,buu,cell forms aswell😁
@@Spidey-ff8dc yeah but half of them are at least story relevant. I don't even consider ssj really sensical because krillin has already died a more horrific death before. But super Vegeta is because he can't quite reach super Saiyan 2, buff trunks is because of his inexperience, kaioken is just sick, Vegetas different armors are drippy af.

Let’s be real Dragon Ball deserves so much better. It’s like sometimes they give us something incredibly hype, like a good movie or Super despite some issues I’ve had with it. Yet most of the time it just feels like DB is so milked to the point of mediocrity. It’s like the modern Simpsons of anime at this point. It’ll always be an iconic classic, but I think it’s overstayed it’s welcome. I miss when Dragon Ball had tension and heart rather than being milked into another cheesy project that doesn’t respect it’s fanbase. But maybe I’m wrong and it’ll be good? Who knows I don’t really have much hope for Dragon Ball anymore.

from details about production this isnt just a cashgrab or anything. I wouldnt compare it to something like simpsons or spongebob where its just at its wits end, this feels like toriyama, shuiesha, toei, etc are really putting their hearts into it. Its maybe not what we wanted or even need but its something that shows DB has more to offer

I agree with everything you say about Dragon Ball Super. They just took something awesome and went in the completely weirdest direction possible. The cool thing about og DB was trying to figure out wtf was up with this monkey kid. Then in DBZ it gets crazy, but still somewhat believable in that universe that was established in DB. Now it’s just too much.

they are not the only ones , Super has bad writing and its just a rehash of things that were already done many times in other arcs , its predictable and kinda boring and disappointing , but of course this is my personal opinion . I just miss the sense of adventure that Dragon Ball used to have , and hope this brings it back . While kid Goku story is my favorite , i also like Namek , Cell , Buu stuff like that those were good story wise , the current arcs are pretty weak compared to those

You were right, original voice was Stephanie. All I’ve heard is rumours, but apparently there’s some bad blood between her and Sabat. That’s why she’s also been replaced for the last couple games.
The current voice is Coleen Clickenbeard, who I think works primarily as a voice director and just kind of casts herself in a lot of roles.

I think it has potential, I don’t think they would put that much time and dedication into it for nothing so I have hope. I do wish it could have been the Moro arc because that’s my favorite arc of all of dragon ball rn. like what Super S2 , Super is mid and you can see Toriyama as lost creativity and interest on it , this is his project this series is what he has put his work and creativity into , this is what he wants to do . And i respect him for that because Dragon Ball started with kid Goku back then it was an adventure manga , it had comedy , world exploration , fights , now it is always fights , transformations , same thing again and again . At least this might bring that feeling that OG had and that some people have been missing

Also this is a celebration of 40 years of a franchise a franchise that started with kid Goku so makes more sense to bring back kid Goku (not saying it had to be this way could had been in a different way) but makes more sense to bring kid Goku back for anniversary celebration than to do Super S2 which is not what started this franchise at all. This is anniversary celebration, kid Goku is what started this franchise, as for Super maybe you'll get Super S2 when they do a Super celebration.
This series has been production since 2021 and toriyama is super involved in this basically he wants to bring the magic of the OG dragon ball
And yes this is a series but a mini one it would probably have 15 to 25 episodes
And speaking of design the character designer/animation supervisor is Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru for those who dont know who he is he has worked on OG DB, DBZ and GT and he was the one who created and designed super sayian 4

Moro arc and granolah arc has add a bunch of different good points plot wise. the character development for both goku and vegeta were done well within both arcs and that was essentially one of the main points of both arcs. There was a lot of development and new lore with bardock, granolah, moro, buu and all that. Daima doesnt even seem bad besides the kids part and askira hasnt been invested in a db series this much in a while, akira was full in on this so this isnt for business or the money. All the new forms fit within the narrative well and they all impact it good besides maybe orange, beast, and rage

So here's what we know from the production side: The pilot was made back in like 2021 as a concept. Toei and Toriyama got it approved and has been in production since.
From the staff(what I heard from AnimeAjay) side, it consists of the Super Broly staff and some staff from the Wano Arc of One Piece. They even got Buu Arc character designer back as an Animation Supervisor for the first episode(Where Goku and Vegeta are fighting).
And here's a thing about that: That means it's gonna be heat. Animators only put their best in projects that their passionate about( look at One Piece Wano Arc). This may be for a younger demographic sure, but they wouldn’t put their best people on this without there being some secret sauce hidden within. But hey, I'm just theorising here.

This is an anniversary event for the Manga toriyama wanted to do & he's doin WAY MORE for this than he's EVER done for Super. They're even keepin the designs of the characters more inlign wit his CURRENT manga style. I think this will actually be pretty great. It only takes minor inspiration from GT & it is heavily supervised by toriyama unlike MOST things Toei does wit DB. If anythin it'll at least look great since they got VERY important ppl on this for animation

Ya know what. The animation looks clean. And its giving me OG DB vibes. More of a fun vibe, than a "cool" one. Ive been surprised lately with liking things i thought i wouldn't, so ill give it a shot.
Wes' perspective is what I've been saying, Dragon Ball is the Star Wars of anime in terms of story to franchise.
But for me, *let 'em cook.* It's literally just a small teaser without much context of story. Not only that we're getting Super anyway because WHY NOT?, but we haven't even let this cook yet. Either way, when Daima comes out, all y'all gonna judge tf out of it anyway, like every single thing since GT. Whether if it's decent, mid, or maybe crap, we'll just have to wait. Like what Wes said, kid Goku wasn't a bad concept, just bad execution, maybe this will be as the same quality or worse, or somehow better. I'm just getting a pet peeve out of Super fans complaining that we ain't ever gonna get the other arcs. "Best case scenario", maybe Toei is cooking harder after the animation criticism. But I'm being cautious about both projects. Either way, it is what it is.
Fax I'm excited from everythin they've said from Toriyama involvement to the S tier staff/schedule so we'll C. This is an anniversary event to celebrate the 40yr old manga.

Thank you for saying that! I've said for the longest that Super feels like it's been lacking substance and even though I did thought Broly was going to be a chance for something better, it just didn't. Nothing feels to be at risk anymore and that's just... sad.

I think the best way to describe dragon ball right now is that it's going the Pokémon/yugioh route where it initially started with an actual story then got turned into a franchise for literally just business and selling shit and it clearly shows...
Yu-Gi-Oh Sevens is overhated, most characters and some episodes (specially the last duels), are great. The only thing that is kind of disappointing in Sevens and Go Rush are the designs and the art-style (later half of GX and what comes after that have the coolest artstyles).

animation and story concept aren't the same thing. It's the whole kid concept everyone has a problem with. The animation does look beautiful and I'm sure they're gonna do their best to tell a good story but the concept is trash.

Honestly I think DBS has a lot more than people give credit is especially the moro arc (genuinely tries to continue Z's story same with top tho less so) but i agree nowadays DB is more so a business. Which isnt inherently a bad thing imo the issue with that is there is no consistency. Manga doing its own thing, TV anime is MIA, and now Daima. Japan cares less about canon so thats just a cultural thing but i wish there was more coherency and i'd be fine with super as a whole

I have been waiting to see the Goku versus Vegeta fight in the same way they falsely advertised it in the Kai opening.
Next year they are gonna drop a Budokai 4 and announce the Moro Arc around or at the same time because they are going to want to put all these new characters in the game and as Dragon Ball fans we just can't lose.
