Bill Ward on Drums, one of the best, Tony Iommi on Guitar, one of the best, Geezer Butler on Bass, one of the best and Ozzy Osborne on Vocals, one of the best. Black Sabbath. One of THE BEST.

I respectfully disagree. Bill is the very best, Tony is the greatest Riff maker ever. Geezer is the greatest bass player ever, one of the best lyricists as well. Ozzy is the 2nd greatest front man ever. Freddy Mercury existed after all. Black Sabbath is the perfect band.

Black Sabbath is the British band that almost single-handedly created the heavy metal genre in the 1970's w/ their heavy, dark & uncompromising sound... Led Zeppelin defined 'heavy rock' in 1969 and changed the game drastically... Deep Purple followed their example and played heavier and unpredictably as a result... and Black Sabbath, the 3rd band of the British 'Unholy Trinity' took heavy rock music to a level that had never been heard before... Black Sabbath were a huge influence on everyone from Judas Priest to Van Halen to Metallica to Nirvana to KoRn... and beyond.
Formed in Birmingham, England by Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums)... they started out in 1968 playing blues and rock n' roll covers in bars... After hearing Led Zeppelin's music in 1969, they were inspired to write their own heavy rock songs and had the idea to make 'scary music' after noticing a movie theater across their rehearsal space playing a 1940's horror film 'Black Sabbath'... They wrote the song 'Black Sabbath' which was ominous and dark, inspired by a nightmare experienced by bassist Geezer Butler... When they played 'Black Sabbath' live, the band got a huge response and knew they had something special.
In late 1969, the band had written more original songs and were signed to UK label Vertigo Records after changing their name from Earth to Black Sabbath... Their first self-titled album was released in early 1970 and it was an immediate hit in the UK. Black Sabbath toured N. America as well that year and were a sensation there as well.
They had a second album recorded in 1970 originally called 'War pigs'... but their record label felt it was inappropriate in the Vietnam war era. The label liked a short, catchy song called 'Paranoid' that Black Sabbath had written in about 1 hour and the album was titled 'Paranoid'... It went to #1 on the UK charts and was a huge hit in the US as well.
Black Sabbath early albums would become the template of the heavy metal genre for decades to come... They released the albums 'Master of Reality' in 1971 and 'Volume 4' in 1972 ('Volume 4' was originally titled 'Snowblind'... but the record label did not like the drug reference) After their 5th album 'Sabbath bloody Sabbath' in 1973, Black Sabbath discovered that the band members were broke... their managers had made off w/ all their earnings which had been signed w/ bad contracts. The band took a year off in 1974 to sort through their legal troubles...
In 1975, Black Sabbath returned w/ their heaviest and angriest album 'Sabotage'... but things started going downhill in 1976 when Ozzy Osbourne objected to the musical direction on the next album 'Technical ecstasy' ... The drugs, alcohol and money problems took a toll on the band and when they tried again w/ their 8th album 'Never say die!' in 1978, Black Sabbath was burned out and upstaged on tour by a young Van Halen every night.
In 1979, guitarist Tony Iommi made the decision to fire Ozzy Osbourne from Black Sabbath... Ozzy spiraled into depression but was soon given an opportunity to start a solo career in 1980 which made him a superstar in his own right.
Black Sabbath did have a post-Ozzy career in the 80's w/ Ronnie James Dio (vocals) joining in 1980 for the albums 'Heaven and Hell' and 'Mob rules' (1981)... but drummer Bill Ward left Sabbath in 1980 and Ronnie James Dio left in 1982 to form his own band Dio.
Tony Iommi (guitar) kept Black Sabbath going w/ various musicians and singers, but could not match the success of the original Black Sabbath... Thankfully, the original members were able to reunite by 1997 to tour and secured their legacy as a legendary force in music... Iommi, Ozzy and Geezer were recorded 1 more Black Sabbath album '13' in 2013 (drummer Bill Ward declined to play on that record)
More Black Sabbath classics - 'Paranoid' ... 'N.I.B.' ... 'Snowblind' ... 'Children of the grave' ... 'Iron Man' ... 'Sabbath bloody sabbath'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥

When I first learned to play this song on guitar, that was so cool. I remember playing it quite a few times when I first learned how to play it. I already knew how to play it on drums, but being able to play it on guitar was way different. You can't really hear Geezer Butlers bass playing in this live recording, but he's killing it. You can hear his bass better on the album version. You always have a great reaction to songs. ❤❤😊

  • @bookhouseboy280

Birmingham, England's Black Sabbath are considered one of the pioneers of heavy metal and the earliest band most identified with that genre. The dark and heavy riffs, ominous lyrics, and powerful performances on their self-titled debut album set them apart from other rock bands of their time. "Paranoid" (1970), their second album, is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal albums of all time, featuring classics like "War Pigs," "Iron Man," and the title track. In 1973 came "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath," widely regarded as one of their most experimental and diverse works, featuring a fusion of melodic metal, progressive rock, and intricate arrangements. Standouts include the classic title track, "Killing Yourself to Live," and "A National Acrobat." Made while the band was in litigation with their ex-manager, 1975's "Sabotage" is considered to be the last of the great albums from the golden age with Ozzy. After having been replaced by former Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio in 1979, Ozzy went on to a spectacular solo career characterized by his distinctive vocals and larger-than-life persona.

I know u mostly or maybe only do vids, but "Fairies Wear Boots" has the same kind of supercool riffs you enjoyed here, but I'm not sure if there's a film of it being performed by them. "War Pigs" was written mostly because of the Vietnam War, I think. Around 1970, many young people, hippies, college students, etc protested against being drafted into the Army and U.S. waging war against North Vietnam and killing so many innocent people. President Johnson decided not to run for re-election bc of the protests and the divided nation. Now we have Gaza, and Biden is suffering politically for fully supporting Israel, in what many see as war crimes being committed in our name with our money. I know this is "political," but it goes to how timeless this song is, and how eternal war seems to be.
