One of the coolest songs ever…some much style! It’s almost punk, metal and rock n roll and in the end it became its own thing. Don’t know another song like it.

Motorhead was a huge influence on metal and punk and one of the hardest hitting rock bands ever! I saw them twice, first they opened for Ozzy Osbourne when he had Randy Rhodes still as his lead guitarist, both bands were killer. That show was very loud but in a big arena so not too loud. The next time it was, Motorhead played in a large bar in W Hartford CT but as soon as they turned on the amps, we knew we were in trouble! They had a lot of PA in that place and part of the crowd could not handle the volume and left, we soldiered on and made it right to the stage, just feet from Lemmy, sweating profusely and spitting out the lyrics. It was a great performance but damn, too loud even for the metal heads, I had ringing in the ears for several days and know I had some hearing loss after. But, damn worth seeing Lemmy point blank and hearing music my parents hated! Next, try One Track Mind for more Motorhead greatness.
Those were the days my dear, Ozzy with them was $6.50, acouple years later, headlining in the bar cost us $6.00. Part of the reason I was able to see 100s of shows in the 70s and into the 80s was they were so cheap, I paid as low as $3.50 to see Hot Tuna play for 4 hours and also saw the Mahavishnu Orchestra at the same Music Inn for that price. Most shows were $5 or $6. The most expensive shows were for Pink Floyd or the WHO, those bands charged a whole $8.50, LOL! What does it cost to see Taylor Swift? I think I got the better deal in a place far away and long ago. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶🔥

You have to know Lemmy and Motorhead. One of the most influencial punk/metal bands ever. Yes, Motorhead are a mix of old school punk and metal. Lemmy was a legend. Ace of Spades is one of the most iconic metal songs ever. It is a metaphor for life. Gambling songs are usually a life lesson.

As a punk in the eighties loved jumping around to this at the youth club disco, Motorhead crossed genres as this felt more punk than most of the actual punk released at the time.

Awesome song. For those who may not know, the Dead Man's Hand is the poker hand of Aces and Eights. Purportedly the hand held by Wild Bill Hickock when he was shot dead in a poker game circa 1876.

Motorhead were a huge influence on thrash & speed metal in the 80's, as well as 80's raunchy hard rock and 90's extreme metal ...Motorhead has been cited by Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Nirvana, Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses, Skid Row, Clutch, etc. as a major influence. It's just that Motorhead never saw the commercial success of the major bands in their career from 1975 to 2015.
Motorhead's (late bassist/ vocalist) has a documentary movie "Lemmy" made about him.... Check it out! Sadly, he passed away in 2015 (R.I.P.) and Motorhead ended w/ him after 40 years.
Ian Kilmister was born in the UK in 1945 and earned the nickname 'Lemmy' for his habit of constantly borrowing money 😂He became a fan of 50's American rock n' roll music and even saw The Beatles perform at a club in Liverpool in the early 60's before they had a record out... He started playing guitar in a 60's UK band called The Rockin' Vickers... In 1967, Lemmy moved to London and became a roadie for Jimi Hendrix (he used to score acid for the legendary guitarist)... However, his life changed in 1971 when he was enlisted by the space rock band Hawkwind to play bass (He had never played bass before that)... He loved playing bass and wrote his own songs in the band. Unfortunately, Lemmy was fired from Hawkwind in 1975.
Returning to England, Lemmy formed Motorhead, named after a song he wrote for Hawkwind - 'Motorhead'... it was a trio originally w/ Lucas Fox (drums) and Larry Wallis (guitar)... but Motorhead was terrible according to the critics. They even called them the "best worst band".
By 1977, Lemmy (bass & vocals) was joined by Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor (drums) and 'Fast' Eddie Clarke (guitar) which was the classic Motorhead line-up (on 'Ace of Spades' in 1980 as well) ...Motorhead was finally signed in 1978 and recorded the debut album... Soon they had a UK hit single - a cover of 'Louie, Louie'(The Kingsmen) and defied the critics... They released a string of successful UK albums - 'Overkill' (1979), 'Bomber' (1979) and 'Ace of Spades' (1980) as they toured Europe relentlessly... Their 1981 live album 'No sleep til Hammersmith' reached #1 on the UK charts.
However, the band was burnt out as they focused on touring N. America on their 1982 album 'Iron Fist'... 'Fast' Eddie Clarke was replaced by Brian 'Robbo' Robertson (guitar) but their 1983 album 'Another perfect day' was a commercial flop... Both Robbo and Philthy quit Motorhead in 1984 ("Another perfect day" has since sold relatively well)
Lemmy reformed Motorhead w/ Pete Gill (drums) and 2 new guitarists - Phil 'Zoom' Campbell and Mick 'Wurzel' Burston... and began touring in 1985 on their 10th anniversary record 'No remorse'... and released a new album 'Orgamsatron' in 1986... Philthy (drums) returned in 1987 after Pete Gill was fired for the 'Rock n' roll' album and the 1988 live album 'No sleep at all'.
Because of tax issues, Lemmy left the UK and settled in an apartment in Los Angeles on the Sunset Strip, where he lived the rest of his life.
Motorhead returned in 1991 w/ the album '1916'... which was nominated for a Grammy in the USA. Philthy was fired and Mikkey Dee (drums) joined in 1992 for the album 'March or die'... Motorhead's sales in the US were so poor that their 1993 album 'Bastard' was not released in America for years... Longtime guitarist Wurzel left Motorhead in 1995 and the band became a trio for the rest of their career w/ Lemmy, Phil Campbell (guitar)and Mikkey Dee(drums)
Motorhead were persistent and determined, releasing the albums 'Sacrifice' (1995), 'Overnight Sensation' (1997), 'Snake bite love' (1998), 'We are Motorhead' (2000) and 'Hammered' (2002)... Surprisingly, Motorhead's 2004 album 'Inferno' saw record sales rise significantly and the band saw big crowds coming to see them on tour.
They continued to record albums and tour for 'Kiss of death' (2006)... 'Motorizer' (2008)... 'The world is yours' (2010) and 'Aftershock' (2013)... as Motorhead continued to rise in popularity worldwide.
Unfortunately, Lemmy's drinking and drug use caught up to him and his health deteriorated by their last album 'Bad Magic' in 2015. After returning from a tour, Lemmy was diagnosed w/ brain cancer and died in late 2015 at age 70.
Motorhead released a covers album 'Under cover' in 2017 from recordings in their career, which included a haunting cover of David Bowie's song 'Heroes'...
Other Motorhead classic songs - 'Overkill' ... 'Killed by death' ... 'Iron Fist' ... 'Dancing on your grave' ... 'No class' ... 'Bomber'... 'Deaf forever'... 'Orgasmatron'... 'The one to sing the blues'... 'We are Motorhead'

Motörhead resisted the desires of critics to put the band into a genre pigeon hole, as is evidenced by his words at the beginning of many concerts: "We are Motörhead and we play rock and roll!!" 'Nuff said....

Lemmy (singer, bassist, & founder) very clearly describes their music as punk, not metal, and I agree. (Calling it metal appeared to annoy him).

Do yourself a favor, wrap your ears around 2 atypical Motorhead songs, '1916' and 'God was never on your side', I always liked Iron fist, but the 'Headgirl' collaboration with a UK Rock/metal band Girlschool of 'Please don't touch' is definitely worth your time.
