Dude, Bill Ward is the reason John Bonham took it to the next level and Bonham is the reason Ward took it to the stratosphere. They both were friends and respected/loved each others playing. I had read that Sabbath and Zep had a jam session one time, but apparently no one thought to record it. How epic would that have been to be a fly on the wall in that room. Great reaction as always.
listen to Helter Skelter by the Beatles, which was recorded before metal, and blew everyone's mind, at the time...I think the Beatles invented It and Ozzie was a big Beatles fan, just another point of view.
@@robertaccornero7172 Heavy Metal wasn't invented, it was formed from similiar influences. Black Sabbath is only considered the first heavy metal band, not the inventor of it. LSD, occultism, industrialization, the development of electric instruments, and rock'n'roll meeting classical bombastics were the ingredients.
I saw them around 1971 while in college, they were great live. I was so lucky to have been a poor college student at that time when there were so many up and coming bands to see for cheap, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Grand Funk, Led Zeppelin, etc. I heard that Bill Ward played the drums with the drum sticks held so that he used the fat end so that they wouldn't break when he played them.
There’s a reason why, guitarist in particular, love the older bands like Sabbath. The music was new, raw, and the sound was IMMENSE. Even to this day, as a guitarist, I prefer the overdriven sound of Iommi’s guitar compared to a lot of what’s out there today.
Yeah... Bill had a weird habit of playing with little broken pieces of sticks. I guess everyone has quirks , but as quick as he is ... i cant beat out singles that quick with good sticks!
You mentioned Bill Ward and John Bonham. Heard a story that back in the early days, Ward wouldn't let Bonham use his drums, even just to show him something. Guess Bill Ward got mad since Bonham had broke Wards drums twice and Ward struggled to pay for repairs. Bonham banged so hard on the drums, so did Ward. Thought that was kinda funny, just see Bill Ward saying break your own bloody drums. Peace
I love that you viewed this video because it really showcased the power and intensity of Bill Ward , an amazing drummer that doesn't get enough recognition.
Love your reaction to these videos. This particular recording is interesting as it is a very early version of the song with alternate lyrics. Totally agree, Bill Ward is a monster. Both him and Geezer Butler had a heavy jazz influence which contributes to the unique rhythm sound of the band. It’s metal, but it swings at the same time.
LOL These aren't the original lyrics. The lyrics to "Walpurgis" were about a witches' coven holding a ritual. In this video, Ozzy's singing the lyrics to the "War PIgs" version....he's just singing the lines all out of order.
Hell yes! Thank you T. This is the raw Sabbath I was talking about. It is interesting how the lyrics changed for the studio version. A must listen is Into The Void
@@TheAdventuresofTNT Thanks! I know Tasha reviewed it before but that is fan based video. This is how I saw them for the first time. Here's the whole concert. ua-cam.com/video/7rF2OSSDoMU/v-deo.html More 60s 70s coming soon.
OMG!!! I was absolutely in love with them in the 70s and 80s!!!!!! My mom was always yelling to shut that noise down 🤣!...... they were so awesome in concert!!!
Good day, What people seem to overlook is that Tony Iommi Lost the tips of two of his fingers on his fingering hand while at work, they were sawed off. He then invented some tips for his fingers. It's amazing how he can play such intense riffs, not being able to feel the strings with his two middle fingers. He is why I got into playing and having a very nice musical career. Salute
Bill Ward is a Beast ! One of my all time favorite drummers. He beats those drums like they owe him money 🤣. Black Sabbath, Forever the Godfathers of Metal! \m/
I'm a few years late to this reaction but I was watching this whole concert for years. I learned how to play this song close to a tee on the drums. Keep your left foot at that tempo the whole song and all your other lymbs just follow. It's all in the left foot keeping time
My second concert was Black Sabbath in LA with Grand Funk and Ten Years After... Feb of 1971...BS was my favorite band...Geezer was my hero..They were so tight...unbelievable night. Black Sabbath was the core tap root of metal rock and perhaps hard rock too
In 1968, when I was 9, Steppenwolf changed music for me. In 1970, Black Sabbath changed everything for me. Thank my lucky stars for SO many great bands.
Wow, thanks for the reaction and so many memories. Bill Ward was known in my circle by the 'appellation' Bill 'Cave man' Ward. His playing is visceral.
Yep, Bill Ward was off the chart on this number. This has to be my favourite Black Sabbath song. I love the way the Foo Fighters did a cover of War Pigs on Letterman. You should check that out
Ozzy is my Idol , grew up with his music. His passing will be a long sad day for me and many others , but I know the music world will honor him as a legend he is for all the years to come. ...
Ozzy still sounds like he's about to break into tears when he sings. Phenomenal. Lyrics different to the recording? And yeah! plant & Bonham were from the West Midlands like Sabbath.
I saw Black Sabbath in Crawley Sports Center, Sussex, England, 1981. My main impression was seeing the way Bill Ward literally 'threw himself' at the drum kit. Especially the toms. I saw his greatness that night.
Every time I see Bill Ward in this video. I can’t help but think of “animal” from the muppets (I mean this in the best of ways). He’s just a freakin BEAST!
Deep Purple: Child in Time live in 1970 was pretty intense too. 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972 were THE years for rock music. Music had to change or die after that explosive onslaught.
They are in Paris.. 1970 .. this is about the best there is.. and the guitarist has his fingers cut off! You know they had a good time that night.. imagine it .. you blow the show up .. and walk out to 1970's Paris.. oh man .. the party that night!
You gotta go back and react to their first song ever. "Black Sabbath" from the album "black Sabbath" by black Sabbath. That song is often hailed as the first ever metal song. I won't detail it much, since the track holds on to some brilliant surprises. Make sure to react to it 🤘
This song was lyrically changed , for the album.....Those Lyrics you heard and that concert had to be in 1969....probably before November....Sabbath recorded the first album in 1969....but wasn't released until Friday Feb.13, 1970
There was a different name for the song with different lyrics. Sorry, I don't recall the name. Ozz still throws in some of the original lines, or he was in 90 something in Indy.

According to Tony Iommi it was recorded. The tapes are lost tho.
@@shobudski6776 They need to call Indian Jones or who ever to find them tapes. LOL.
Damn, think of that, Ozzy and Plant! 😁
I was going to mention this but you put it better than I would. Peace out
Not another person who thinks Led Zeppelin were better than Black Sabbath.
ALL 4 members of the band on fire here but Bill, WOW WOW WOW
To this day that drum set has a restraining order against Bill 🤣... true story
Bill Ward beats his drums, like they owe him money!
They did and they paid lots of money!!
Such an original comment
Sadly he is no longer able to play , he has come out and said that his ability to play is gone , hes 73 years old and old age has done its tricks .
He did. I give him the edge on Bonham on some songs live.
Hahahahaha.😂😂😂🤣🤣
I was Hank Williams and Beatles fan, then my best friends brother came home from college with the Paranoid album. Things changed after that.
A bunch of hippies from Birmingham invented Metal and I love it.
Who thought metal could come from Alabama?

Black Sabbath recorded the darkest anti-war songs I've heard. Listen to the line about War Pigs "eating dead rat's innards."
That’s the tame version. The demo is the best one. On Ozzys greatest hits.

They jammed on Supernaut with Bonzo on drums
Best performance by a drummer. That i have ever seen/heard.
Nothing better than referencing John Bonham (RIP) the Legend. Excellent reaction.

I love that Bill Ward has his sticks backwards so that they are even louder. Max volume and violence on those poor defenceless tom’s!

Poor people can never sink to the moral depravity of the wealthy elite 🐷🔥
One of my favourite things about this. Is the fact that they played like this. In a time when there was no such thing as Heavy Metal.
