Yes the 1970’s live in Paris is the best! From Bills drumming to Geezers bass intertwined. Then there’s Tony’s brilliant fresh guitar work to the great vocals of a young Ozzie.
Superior to the aging band as here, where Ozzies voice is no where near as good as it was, even though the band here is still showing energy and greatness.

Generals gathered in their masses; Just like witches at black masses; Evil minds that plot destruction; Sorcerer of death's construction; In the fields, the bodies burning; As the war machine keeps turning; Death and hatred to mankind; Poisoning their brainwashed minds; Oh lord, yeah! Politicians hide themselves away; They only started the war; Why should they go out to fight? They leave that role to the poor, yeah; Time will tell on their power minds; Making war just for fun; Treating people just like pawns in chess; Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah! Now in darkness, world stops turning; Ashes where their bodies burning; No more war pigs have the power; Hand of God has struck the hour; Day of judgement, God is calling; On their knees, the war pigs crawling; Begging mercy for their sins; Satan laughing, spreads his wings; Oh lord, yeah!

Ozzy just did an interview this week where he said he will come out and play in a wheelchair if he hast to and for the Rams season opener he came up through a hole in the stage we’re in a big cape but what people didn’t see, was a steel bar hidden under the cape, with his harness around his body to hold him up to sing. Ozzy truly lives for his fans in the music.

That was a great performance by Ozzy and his band mates! If you haven't I recommend going back to the studio version on audio remastered just to experience what we did in 1970 when they released this song. As the earliest pioneers of Heavy Metal as they are known, you are correct, this song is timeless and I like how you caught the simple melody surrounded by a monster wall of sound. That was cool! Another song about the tragedies of society is "Hand of Doom" from the same album Paranoid.

Siren at start is an Air Raid siren from WW2 , throughout war in UK you would hear these , they continued to test these till the early 70s , so sound would be very familiar to young people of the 60s and 70s . My mother lived in Bournemouth during WW2 and they were regularly bombed and straffed and the air raid sirens would go off then you would hear the anti aircraft guns firing followed by the explosions of the bombs , she said it was terrifying but exciting . First saw Sabbath live in 1973 . It’s great young people still appreciate this music 50 years after it was first played .

We are litterally looking at a piece of living history! These elder gentlemen have kept the band together for more than 50 years...and at the time this started Black Sabbath farthered Heavy Metal as a genre.
Bill Ward, Geezer Butler, Toni Iommi (founder of B.S) and Ozzy Osbourne are all in thier mid-70´. They have a catalog of songs which spans more than 5 decades. Dark, heavy music comming at you like a battering ram and leaves you with a clear impression that these guys do something very special. I first time listened to Black Sabbath in 1971, 11 years old, to Paranoid and have been a huge fan since then. No band above and none aside Black Sabbath. 3:50 - Oh, and yeah..... you hit the nail on the head. I'm 56 years old, I think I'm still in my 20s (which is why I relate to younger people as well as I do), but my body feels like I'm in my 80s. But it's the mentality that we have. In my mind, I'm still young, no matter what my body says.

Yes, I was so much hoping for a reaction to the studio recording, but yet here is another live. Just doesn't sound the same, and it very much is not better than the original in studio recording, it is just different. And late in the song, as they go into the last guitar solo, Ozzy has the crowd going "OOhhhhh, ooooohhhhhhhh, oooohhh" to drown out the beginning of the most powerful solo in rock music, imo, it was just disappointing. The studio version is the superior version, without the visual and auditory distractions.

    • @jamesdamiano8894
      @jamesdamiano8894 Рік тому

@@mikell5087 I am constantly telling reviewers to do original studio versions of songs. There a lot of good live versions of songs but I can't understand why people keep recommending live versions instead. Why not listen to the original first to get the full impact of what the artist intended. Then you don't have to even worry that a live version doesn't live up to expectations.

Tony Iommi quit his job to pursue a career as a guitarist but on the very last day of working at the sheet metal factory he lost the tips of his middle and ring fingers in an accident. On this right hand which is his fret hand since he is left handed. He was told he'd never be able to play guitar again. Instead he made his own fingertip prosthetics and found a different way of guitar playing which inspired the sound of the entire heavy metal genre

Ozzy's greatest strength for me was the way he could be so melodic and soulful in the midst of that walls-of-hell band.

That kid they brought in to play the drums (Tommy Clufetos?) was going to town on those things! I call him a kid because he is probably 25 years younger than the others. 😊

My fave metal anthem. And so true to this ...all time.your reaction is so generous and point on honey. Ozzy live is like that The whole show. He gives the crowd Everything. I mean he bit a bat... Top that young ones. Best show I went to I was 13, Ozzy with Randy and Motorhead.

Full lyrics for the benefit of viewers who couldnt understand the "crowd singing" portions of this classic: Generals gathered in their masses; Just like witches at black masses; Evil minds that plot destruction; Sorcerer of death's construction; In the fields, the bodies burning; As the war machine keeps turning; Death and hatred to mankind; Poisoning their brainwashed minds; Oh lord, yeah!

One of a kind voice that we won't hear again once we lose Ozzy. You'd love his ballad with Lita Ford, another kick a$$ female guitarist, called If I Closed My Eyes Forever.

Weird story the first time I heard this song was at Basic at Ft Benning home of the warfighters! And one of my drills used the words of this song as a running cadence along with some other colorful lines. It’s an anti-war song we turned into a war cry!

Yes indeed, one of the greatest songs by any rock band, it has been absorbed into pop culture over the last 53 years, please listen to the studio original when you can. There are many amazing live versions of it, the one you just saw is from the end of their career when the reformed in 2013, did a great last album called 2013, I saw them on the farewell tour, it was the last of 8 times I saw the original band (first in 1974 and 13 total times seeing Black Sabbath, including 3 with Dio and once each for Ian Gillian and Glenn Hughes, wish I saw Tony Martin when they did Tyr). You should also see live versions of War Pigs in 1970 in Paris when they were young and just releasing albums, they were killer and Bill Ward almost destroys his drums, and also see them in 1974 at the the California Jam in front of 250,000, Ozzy has them going nuts again. Great stuff, Sabbath is a huge rabbit hole of rock and metal exellence. Legends forever. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

I was born and bred in Birmingham, England and was lucky enough to be a kid when Sabbath started out. I saw them so many times I've lost count. This is an anti war song but unfortunately it's as relevant today as back then.......this is an absolute banger, Ozzy's voice,Bill's drumming,Geezers bass ANDl yrics and of course Tony's guitar work.....amazing.
I've never ever seen anyone hit the drums so hard as Bill Ward......and I can honestly say I never saw a duff gig by them.
Once again Britt a great reaction.
