A supergroup is a group of musicians from famous bands or artists who have been famous in their own right that unite to make music together. WatchMojo picks the ten best supergroups in rock music.
List Entries and Rank:
#10. The Raconteurs
#9. Them Crooked Vultures
#8. Velvet Revolver
#7. Bad Company
#6. Audioslave
#5. The Highwaymen
#4. Emerson, Lake & Palmer
#3. ?
Bob Dylan George Harrison Jeff Lynne Tom Petty Roy Orbison all in one group spectacular
Put a pick of Dylan& Orbison on my phones lock- screen
Yes
I'm glad Emerson, Lake, and Palmer got a mention, they were some of the most talented and educated musicians to ever start a band.
Glad to see them here.... they're frequently overlooked in such lists.
thank you for listing CREAM as the #1 Super group ! I am 68 years old and grew up with many great bands including LED Zeppplin and many moire But always REMEMBER the CREAM always rises too the top!
Oh yeah!!!
Cream made awesome music when they were even stoned. Look at Ginger Baker at 8:03 . The power of the live versions of sunshine of your love is unbelievable. The distortion and cranked up bass is awesome. Clapton was also part of 2 other super groups, Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominos. Asia also had a nice little run. Not sure why people call Zeppelin a Super Group. They were super but only page was well known and he was technically carrying on the yardbirds name.
Jones had a grammy or something already...Band of Joy was a huge english band...And Jimmy had played on almost every alblum recorded back then...not just the yardbirds...
When the Traveling Wilburys came as 2nd, I thought that Led Zeppelin must be 1st. Looks like watchmojo's getting stupid
My supergroup would be
Lead singer- Robert plant
Guitar- Jimmy page
Bass- John Paul Jones
Drums- John bonham
footballgeek lol
***** probably something along the lines of "brick blimp" or maybe "stone balloon"
Bob Jones Zed Lepplin
footballgeek Good point.
My actual supergroup (Shadowcasters) would be:
Axl Rose (Co-lead vocals)
Matt Bellamy (Co-lead vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Piano)
Eddie Van Halen (Co-lead guitar)
Jimmy Page (Co-lead guitar)
Roger Waters (Bass guitar)
John Bonham (drums)
An alternate edition would be:
Robert Plant (Lead Vocals)
David Gilmour (Lead Guitar)
Matt Bellamy (Rhythm Guitar)
Billy Sheehan (Bass Guitar)
Neil Peart (Drums)
The Supergroup of dead legends.
Freddie Mercury - Lead Vocals
Jimi Hendrix - Guitar
John Entwistle - Bass Guitar
John Bonham - Drums
Edit: Now that he's gone, I'd like to mention my favourite drummer Neil Peart, who would probably replace John Bonham. However, I've decided to keep this comment in its original state.
Yes that would be amazing
Have Bowie write their songs!
John Lennon
John lennon as rythm guitar
rick wright- keyboard
David St. Hubbins, lead vocal, rhythm guitar
Nigel Tufnel, lead guitar, vocals
Derek Smalls, bass, vocals
Drummer, RIP
i want my old man to drum for spinal tap!
The original supergroup, with members from The Originals, The New Originals and The Lucky Lads.

My Super Group

That’s be crazy
I prefer John enwistle over McCartney but at least u got Keith at drums and Freddie at vocals
@@carlosazuela6687 Entwistle might be a better bassist, but in my opinion, McCartney is a better overall musician. But I respect your opinion, Entwistle is such an underrated bassist and musician.
Take out Freddie

I agree with Chris Cornell, first comment that I saw with him in it
Am intresting one but u like it
Can you give your supergroup a name
Can't argue with Cream being no. 1, but go a step farther and you can include Blind Faith.
The two better musicians of Cream were Ginger and Jack. Eric was little more than a good guitarist but an absolute loser as a person.
ELP were better and much more important. Pictures at an exhibition is brilliant
@@crowbone8136 ja no, you are a loser as a person
@@crowbone8136 Eric Clapton is "little more than a good guitarist." Really? He is widely considered to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
Led Zeppelin was a much better supergroup...sorry...
Young hard rockers who aren't familiar with Cream really need to check them out. Oh yeah and ELP for the prog rockers.
Isn't Zeppelin technically a supergroup? Bonham and Plant are from the Band of Joy and Jimmy is from the Yardbirds
"A supergroup is a music group whose members *are already successful* as solo artists or as part of other groups or as other professions."-Wikipedia
Band of Joy and the Yardbirds weren't successful as much as I know.
Yardbirds were somewhat successful
***** Yardbirds were talented. Popular? not so much man. The band Hell Yeah was a supergroup that should have been on here.
Considering the yardbirds are in the Rock and roll hall of fame than I would think that most ppl think they r pretty good
Led Zeppelin was created to be a Supergroup, and succeeded in what they were created for, and although all members were known in all the music world some idiots seem to not see that as being known ;-)
Not even an honorable mention, can't believe you'd snub Asia and my boy John Wetton like that
Too many for a top ten...top 20....
4 of the best prog musicians in one group, and WatchMojo just skipped over them.
Asia should've made it
I really like Power Station, Oysterhead, Mad Season, and A Perfect Circle.

Electric Guitar-Dimebag Darrell (Rip)
Bass-Cliff Burton (Rip)

ELP was not a Super Group. The rest I would thumbs up.
I love this list dude...real groups...real impact ...real talent...notice the common denominator in three of the five bands is the most important and influential figure in modern music over the last 75 years....he is...with a small g
No dispute on Cream being #1. But I agree with others Rainbow should've been there
Mad season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes!!!!
+Mike Yanno Mad Season and Temple of the Dog should be top 2
Luv them
cant really include temple nobody really knew of pearl jam till after temple came out and not of people new of lovebone till after Woods death unless you lived in Seattle
Great list. Glad you included Audioslave. Those 3 albums are phenomenal !
I like the mentions here but by far for me Asia was and will always be my #1 supergroup that first album was a masterpiece I loved all the album's the late John wetton sang on but that original lineup wow Steve Howe lead guitar Goeff downs keyboards Carl Palmer on drums damm what a lineup
To me, Asia was a bad clone of Yes.
@@eudymaverickmentor Asia had some wonderful pop-rock music and a coupla really good albums. Yes was more lofty in goals/composition. Different strokes. Travelin wilburies are mostly pop on the order of Asia.
Has anybody thought of Down? I think they should easily be on this list!

drum-John Boham
bass-Flea

There was once a one-time supergroup called THE DIRTY MAC consisting of John Lennon of The Beatles (Vocals/Guitar), Eric Clapton of Cream (Lead Guitar), Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones (Bass guitar), and Mitch Mitchell of Jimi Hendrix Experience (Drummer). They played YER BLUES (a Beatles song).
Yes, but it was for a one-off, so, according to the rules of the video, don't count. Mind you, I don't think Cream should be because they weren't considered s supergroup at the time. Cream was a new group, not a bunch of musos getting together for special projects. Great band, but not a supergroup.
Audioslave deserved a higher spot. Morello's best work, Commerford's best work, Wilk is solid throughout, and Cornell was unbelievable as usual. Anyone who says Audioslave is inferior to RATM/SG have most likely never listened to Audioslave's stuff in full.
Sidenote: I realize this was posted in 2013, so they weren't formed, but if it had been later, The Winery Dogs definitely deserved a spot on here.

Temple of the dog ie: Pearl Jam with Cornell instead of Vedder. The one album they made is GOLD!
Veder and Cornell both sang for TotD. Hunger Strike is a perfect example of it.
Thats the only song on the whole album with vedder
Technically, at the time of Temple of the Dog's release, it was a Soundgarden/Mother Love Bone supergroup. It didn't become a Soundgarden/Pearl Jam supergroup until later
Vedder was also on
'pushing forward back" and 1 or 2 others "hunger strike" just was the only duet
Traveling Wilburys should be number one without a doubt..
Hahn They are not Cream.
Fuck Cream, I'll Cream on Clapton's face
jocriss The Wilburys had better lyricist, but Cream better insstrumentalists.
hahaha... What a bunch of nonsenses! Only "White Room" craps on every "Traveling Wilburys" songs, both in instrumental and lyrics.

i believe temple of the dog was like them crooked vultured they were formed for only an album

Joseph Ancion this is absolutely hilarious 🤣
I know they were just a one-off, but there was the Dirty Mac: John Lennon on vocals/rhythm guitar, Keith Richards on bass, Clapton on lead guitar, and Mitch Mitchell on drums. They did a hell of a cover of Yer Blues.
Yes, it is a good cover, but I’ve never heard anyone top the original.
My favorite band is Emerson Lake and Palmer. I'm glad they have some recognition. Their unorthodox style is why I don't always expect them to be at the top.
You could also say that yes (1980's) is a super group. It has the buggles + yes (1970's) = yes (1980's)

Mad Season and Temple of the Dog - both amazing.
Ian Gillan with Slash, Steve Harris, and John Bonham.
Crosby, Stills and Nash are by far the best and most successful/enduring super group of all time. There can be no question.
Yea the Wilburys are better.
Neil Young made that group. Look at the Albums with and with out Young. He totally eclipses the other 3. He made them more Electric. Seen them in Concert, Young totally out shone them, esp when he's playing his Gibson-Old Black.
