Here in the UK in the early to mid eighties we had a someone called Mary Whitehouse who campaigned against the release of the so called video nasties, which meant that we couldn't rent a lot of the films that you guy's in the US could and it seems quite bizarre to me that you could watch them in such a short time on cable after their theatrical release, but of course this made it all the more special when one of the friends in your circle would manage to find a pirate copy , no matter how poor the quality of the tape, to this day it always brings back special memories for me.

The only controversy here is whether TCM or Halloween is #1. Both iconic classics of the genre. Nightmare at #3 for sure. The rest are interchangeable.

A bit late to the show but definitely worth the wait and having all five appear added a lot to those of us who have watched all these guys In The Monster's Den to see who would pick what movie in what slot. Add the countdown confusion laughs [thanks, Rich] ,Jamie's excellent entrance and Chris going off the rails a bit about the youth of today and you have a show for the record books. Thanks for sharing your time and making me laugh again at a horror show.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is by far my favorite here. It takes a lot for a horror movie to unsettle me and like you guys said, even though there is little to no gore in it, it still managed to make me feel completely disturbed by the ending.

Halloween 1-3 are classics 🔥🔥 I saw Halloween 3 in the theatre when I was like 8. It scared the shit outta me. To this day it’s one of my main influences. The reason I fell in love with horror is Kolchak the night stalker, The Exorcist, The Howling & Halloween 3 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Agree about Clive Barker: he's a horror visionary. Books of Blood Volumes 1 & 2 are classic horror books, collections of short stories, written with true imagination. In Hellraiser and Candyman, he's introduced some new elements to the horror firmament.

I always wonder, why all horror lovers reject the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2005 remake version? It is very well shot,well-paced,shocking,brutal,You Know Who plays the sheriff and in many ways this film is much better than the original.

6.) Child's Play (I think its a lot of fun. Competent filmmaking elevated what could have been a total joke)
5.) Friday The 13th (I love the ending. I find it drags a little bit. Prefer parts 2,3, and 4)
4.) Hellraiser (Very imaginative and creepy. I agree with Chris it takes a while to get going.)
*To me this is the line separating the good and great movies.
    3.) Halloween
    2.) Nightmare on Elm Street
1.) Texas Chainsaw Massacre (A brutal masterpiece)

43:46 I feel the opposite bro. To me what makes the original FT13 so scary and the best, especially the first time is the fact that you do not see the killer, you get the pov of the killer stalking the victims a bit but you really don't know where they are.. You don't know who it is. They almost make you think Steve Christy might be the one until his demise because he drives a jeep like Mrs Voorhees.. I love that about original Friday how Mrs Voorhees reveals herself and goes into the the bit about her son Jason, that he drowned etc. " Look what you did to him!"Great line! It comes out of nowhere. She's scary as fuck. I mean she took out the crew very efficiently and brutally! FT13 1980 is the one that started it all. My fave easily even tho I love 2, 3 and 4 as well. Final Chapter is badass

It took me four days to get to this show and it's one of the most entertaining Monster's Den shows I've seen so far:
    1. Watching all of you trying to count during the countdown was some of the funniest, unscripted (you fill in the blank) I've seen on this show, period! You guys had me in tears. I'm glad you all finally got on the same page because that bit could've gone on all night.
    2. Jamie, the Freddy Krueger entrance, classic!
    3. I love the stroll down 80s memory lane. I saw a lot of this horror films on cable as well. My parents wouldn't pay admission for a horror film. I also remember the repetition of the blockbuster films HBO, Showtime and Cinemax would show. Unless you liked that film, it was going to be a long month. Oh, I also remember watching the R-rated movies on Showtime and Cinemax After Dark. My parents would always be asleep. And it was one of those naughty things my friends and I did as kids. Oh, during one of my high school English classes, we had to choose a classic novel to read and write a report on a classic novel that was on her list. One of the books was Lady Chatterley's Lover. One of my classmates asked if he could write a report on the sequel Young Lady Chatterley. It went over her head but most of us busted out laughing.
    4. I remember the days of VCRs and renting movies at the grocery store, Blockbuster and independent video chains. VCRs were around $500 and the VHS tapes were $80. My parents also had one of those rewind machines so they could rewind the tapes w/out wearing out the VCR. They were like around $20 I think? Nobody wanted to pay that stupid fine for not rewinding. And an independent video chain, where I grew-up, would sell cables you could hookup to two VCRs and duplicate the movies because they were so expensive. You could also rent VCRs too. Ah, the memories😁
As far as the franchises are concerned, I was never into Hellraiser (too weird), Child's Play (too lame) or Texas Chainsaw Massacre (too redneck for my taste). I liked the first three Nightmare On Elm Streets but it did get a little silly after awhile so, I stopped watching. Halloween was eerie but I never really scared me to the point of thrilling me. I've always loved Friday the 13th movies 1-8. There's nothing like a man wearing coveralls, wearing a hockey mask, carrying a machete while listening to that eerie-ass music as he hacked teenagers to death at night in the woods. It scares the shit out of me every time I watch it. Most of these horror films are low-budget and cheesy but at least they were interesting. They sure don't make them like they used to.

Another fantastic episode, guys. Believe it or not, I haven’t seen any of the Child’s Play movies and need to. I think I was traumatized by watching Rick Steiner argue with Chucky in a wrestling angle. I need to catch up on that series, better late than never. However, for the others.
    5. Nightmare On Elm Street
    4. Hellraiser
    3. Friday the 13th
    2. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
    1. Halloween
1 and 2 can go either way but I gave the edge to HAlLOWEEN only because I have a longer history with it. The top two are phenomenal.

I absolutely love Friday the 13th. In my top 3 with Pt II and IV. That first one is special in its own way. Characters are likable, Alice to me is the second final girl in the franchise( Ginny being my favorite) and the second half of the movie is very dark and ominous. As soon as the storm starts that’s were the tone changes. I also think Pamela was great and creepy and it has one of the most iconic horror movie scenes of all time with the boat. The shots of Pamela’s POV were great. The score is amazing Harry Manfredini did a terrific job. Tom Savini’s effects were killer; axe to the face, throat spear they’re iconic. My list:
    1. Halloween

    5. hellraiser. - not what I thought it was gonna be first watch but really good and creative
4 childs play- really Innovative and ahead-of-its- time. Issue is they didn't know what they had but how could you with the first one

Easy ranking for me: #6: Child's Play/very, well done & creative.... but still a film about a doll. #5. A Nightmare On Elm Street/ Though Robert England brought life to that role; a very, uncomfortable premise with a dead child molester as "the star". #4 Hellraiser /Creepy as hell itself!!! #3. Texas Chainsaw Massacre / A stone-cold classic, but more of a thriller 'till near the end. #2. Halloween/ What can be said that's not been said before + showcases the geniuses of John Carpenter & Debra Hill. #1. Friday the 13th/ My first love are slashers.... & as Chris Alo would say (Boobs & Blood) + a woman being the brutal killer.... well ahead of it's time.

She’s the one who turns around the chair in his mother’s basement asking “Mrs.Bates?” as the 🪑 turns very slowly and as the 💡 is swinging back n forth.. then We see her rotting corpse 🧟‍♂️ Yeaghh! I put Friday The 13th last, because the first one is one of my least favorite movies. I prefer the sequels, because they have Jason. I put Chainsaw after that, because I haven't watched that one much. I agree with Pete. If a movie or cd slipcover has the same design as the cd or DVD case, that sucker's going in the trash

as first films go Friday the 13th is for me the weakest, Hellraiser is the best film but as far as franchises go, well thats a different story

Texas Chainsaw Massacre for me then Halloween. Friday the 13th is kinda cheeseball for me.. the last few mins are pretty good though. Chucky, fun but not particularly scary.. So those two movies would rank at the bottom.

Now everything will start coming out in 8k. I would stop buying until you see if that becomes a thing. 8k TVs are out but no movies or streaming yet in that platform yet.

For me it's Friday the 13th franchise. sure they got ridiculous at the end but I own all the dvd boxsets ; the scream factory bluray set that came out in 2020 , then Halloween next I just think the Halloween franchise made serious mistakes by doing the Rob Zombie remakes which sucked and Halloween kills the ending and the movie is so badly made . next for me it's childs play. I have seen the chucky series they are cool episodes; Nightmare on elm st is awesome too. the Texas chainsaw massacre franchise did the remakes and the prequels they weren't that good. I never got into Hellraiser. they were kinds weird films for me. The candyman franchise is underrated too in my opinion

I don't consider Chucky horror. The Zuni fetish doll is doll horror. Chucky is more like a dark comedy.
I don't like quasi comedy 'horror'.
Twilight Zone puppets, Talky Tina, Zuni fetish doll: Creepy
Chucky? Puppet Master? Not so much...

Good observation. The Zuni Fetish Doll (one story in an anthology movie), Duel, Salem's Lot, and IT are probably the best television horror made before 2000.

Have you guy's ever seen/heard of the British tv programme called simply thriller. There were 6 seasons and they began in 1973, with I think 5 or 6 seasons of all individual stories. It was a mixture of horror, supernatural and creepy thrillers. It was superb when i think back and a boxset of dvd's was produced in 2008, but so far i've not been able to track one down. Just found out they are on UA-cam ua-cam.com/play/PLHhXWiFsHMttTHvQywxXj1QMkK01WEZpY.html
