I do miss Rich and hope he will return at some point but the dynamic of Pete, Chris and Jamie works just as well. I liked Blade Runner when it first came out, and after all these years it could easily be my all time favorite movie. The atmosphere in it alone makes it worth watching, plus every character is interesting. Every great movie has something to say about the human condition, Blade Runner tackles some of the most primal and basic questions - what does it mean to be human, and how long have I got ? Plus any movie that has Daryl Hannah trying to crush Harrison Fords head with her thighs is a must see.

I think people give TMP an unfair rap without considering it's essentially a really long, but really great looking Star Trek episode...and a pretty good one at that. Yes, there are times where it drags a little bit, but it's not the worst of the original six and easily not the worst of all the Trek films.

Hey, Darren... I second that emotion, says the ol' Motown song... Close Encounters has some absolutely tremendous moments, what with flying saucers down the highway, the famous call and response with spaceship... BUT.... I honestly feel that the rest of it hasn't aged very well---kinda talky, ponderous and maybe boring.... This coming from a person who once championed the film as one of Spielberg's greatest triumphs... So sad, right?... Take Care, Ghostrider Rick

In the middle of watching this right now. Wanted to stop to say a couple things....
    1. Pete, great choices with "TENEBRAE" and "Halloween III: Season of The Witch"
Tenebrae is awesome. It's always been a Top 3 Argento for me! In some ways it's his most perfect film. Everything you guys said is right on the money! Especially that "white wall" kill mentioned by Alo. And all the sensual, big-eyed women are exquisite!
Also, I've personally liked "Halloween III" right from the jump in '82. But see, I wasn't all pissed off about M. Myers not being it. I just loved horror films, loved the variety of 'em and, I dunno, always kind of understood that nothing's promised to us in this life, so why not enjoy it for what it is. And to me, all that whiny and entitled complaining about Michael Myers just kinda seemed immature and stupid to me anyway. Obviously, you can't do JAWS 3 without a shark (well, wait, they kinda did...cuz that J3 shark was just friggin' ridiculous, so might as well have) I digress...
Again, I've always thought Season of The Witch was good and it's always come off delightfully weird, futuristic and very creepy. Love the kill scenes, love Stacy, love the masks! 🧟 🎃 💀
*Also have to say quickly, "Thanks to Chris, for again, bringing up "DON'T GO TO SLEEP" I've always loved 70s telefilms (TV movies), since "Trilogy of Terror" and "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" warped my young mind in the mid 70s...but somehow I never caught "Don't Go To Sleep". Probably was too busy with music in the early 80s. But I've been wanting to see it for years now. This reminded me again to do so. Love Val Harper too. Thanks again, Chris 🤘
    2. Me and my good buddy (and still excellent drummer) Steve Riley went to see "PIECES" at the Budco Theater, and I can confirm, it was definitely 1983. For sure b/c I had my first car then (a red and black '73 'Cuda)... we drove to see Pieces after a rehearsal one night. And man, were we ever entertained!! Such a friggin' batshit movie. Especially seeing it back then! We laughed more than anything, but to this day, if one of us brings it up.... "Man, remember that night back in '83, us seeing Pieces in the theater?" Haha. Uhhh, Yes! How could you forget that! I mean, you might forget going to see Superman III or Yentyl, but you're not forgetting "PIECES"
*One last thing...I'm a huge "CREEPSHOW" fan. Couldn't agree more with Chris. It IS a near perfect movie. And to me as well, the weakest story is "They're Creeping Up On You". I don't hate it, but it's kind of a let down after all the other excellent stories.
My faves are "The Crate," "Father's Day," and the underrated "Something To Tide You Over" (which is fantastic in every way, and has never been talked about as much as the overrated cockroaches)
Only one I'll add on here is "CAT PEOPLE" Trippy, seductive movie that doesn't shy away from violence (you'll never see a more realistic and affecting "got my entire arm ripped off" scene that the one here with poor Ed Beagley, Jr. Plus, hey, you've got Nastassja Kinski in her birthday suit, the highly alluring Annette O'Toole, the brilliant Malcolm McDowell, REAL cats, and the great atmospheric theme song by David Bowie. What's not to love.

wow. i f'n LOVED Bladerunner and Dune AND the first Star Trek film (why do so many shite on that film ?), and definitely did not hate Tron when they came out. not sure what that says about me - oh, and i loved Close Encounters (and 1941) when i saw them AND the last story in Creepshow - that eruption o' cockroaches was f'n classic on the big screen. The Thing (and The Fog and Big Trouble - my 3 favorite John Carpenter films...) are must-sees every year ! . yes, Wrath o' Khan was a step up, but the first one was a solid reboot ! great sci-fi is not non-stop action, and i still think the story o' one o' our primitive satellites returning as a planet destroying behemoth was an intriguing one back then - oh, and GREAT score. nuff said...

    Two films I love -
    Conan the Barbarian (1982)
“Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas”, men were hunter gatherers or sword fodder, and women fierce protectors or passive pleasure providers. Viewed in today’s more socially astute times, Conan the Barbarian (1982) is very much a male fantasy adventure with elements of misogyny, sexism and even fascism. Any film that opens with a Friedrich Nietzsche quote is going to be brazen and unapologetic so sock and sandal wearing liberals beware.
The script was adapted from the Robert E. Howard stories by then young guns Oliver Stone and John Milius, who essentially provide us with a testosterone soaked landscape where only the very strongest live and die with any honour. The harsh and brutal fabric of this world is entwined by those who aggress and those who simply comply.
But where the film excels is in the steer conviction of the execution. The odyssey starts with few words because in this world, weight is delivered in action and not spoken in reptilian tongue. The cinematic language is through arguably the most powerful original film score ever recorded (composed by Basil Poledouris, who out Wagners’ Wagner) combined with strong visuals of muscle clad titans against unflinching remorseless environments. It is here Schwarzenegger excels as a force of nature both in terms of sheer physicality and also as the protagonist in the story. Every pore in his skin exudes quiet immense charisma and power, only matched by Milius’s love for the source material which is illustrated in every frame of the film.
The film could easily have fallen into the pit of countless action fantasy films of the era but avoids this by introducing an element of spirituality via the mantra of the riddle of steel and the foreboding new age evangelism of Thulsa of Doom, the art of seduction beautifully played by James Earl Jones. It may be the bombast of galloping armoured horses and clashing steel that demand your attention but it’s the moments of stoic reflection bathed in glorious orchestration that linger long after the last drops of blood have been spilled.
Mad Max 2 (1981) - The international release was 1982
Mad Mad 2 or The Road Warrior (as referred to in North America) is a beast of a film. The premise is simple and unoriginal, a dystopian world where fuel is precious and survivors are divided into sparse tribal gangs where lawlessness is rampant. Enter the mythological (and in this case with a name) hero or anti-hero....
Where the film literally obliterates all other action films is in it’s pure kinetic fury. The semi-mechanised villains are genuinely abhorrent and therefore the threat is real on the opposing community who are desperately clinging onto any fragments of civility. The visceral action sequences, expertly crafted by George Miller are an ode to dirt coated twisted metal, motion, engine revs and gasoline. Gibson thrives a the man with a name, clad in black leather with blue eyes and armed to the hilt. His feral charm further elevates the film as the angel faced grim reaper who finds himself a saviour. Hugely influential, never bettered, this is a divine slice of fuel powered rage!

Some "TV Version" notes. Yes, "The Thing" aired on TV. The one thing I remember specifically was during the "blood test" scene when Keith David says, "This is a crock of shit," they changed it to "This is a crock of stuff." Obviously they didn't allow the word "shit" on TV back then, but "stuff" just sounded hilarious. My family used that for years as a joke.
I remember seeing Creepshow a few times on broadcast TV where they didn't even show the final story ("They're Creeping Up On You"). They just end it after "The Crate." This really pissed me off because the final story was always one of my favorites and the relatively short length compared to the others makes it a nice finale. It feels like, "OK...we're having so much fun, here's a quick one for the road!" If they were going to cut out a story for TV they should have cut out "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill."

The Sword and The Sorcerer is always a favorite of mine. Fun movie, and at the end, the credits said look for Tales of the Ancient Empire which of course never came.

Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3D can remember seeing the three-dimensional standee with the glowing red blood on Jason's machete. Remember seeing that in the theater like yesterday even though it was a 1982.

You guys probably know this, but the late Larry Cohen in 1982 was supposed to be doing a new Mike Hammer movie called I, the jury, where he was originally hired as a screenwriter and director but he got fired and he was stuck in his hotel, so he decided to make the best of it, he came up with Q the winged serpent. Of course, another idiosyncrasy about King Cohen, the king of B-movie schlock is he love to get away shooting without permits. He would just get some quick and dirty shots, in one scene in Q the winged serpent, he hired steeplejacks as police officers when they go and battle Q.

I scored a cool version of Danzig 3 that i bet Chris would appreciate. I mean, he probably already owns it, haha. Also, i only recently learned that Keith Emerson did the soundtrack to Tenebrae! Very cool.

Great episode. I was 17 in 1982. I saw most movies in the theater, but a couple years later VHS came out, and I saw a lot more. Jamie, did He Man come out in 82, because Beastmaster seems to have a lot of similarities? Blade Runner is a great movie. When I first saw it I was like what, but later on it was one of the best si/fi movies I ever saw. ET is a classic. I ain't cryin'. The soundtrack is great, but so is Close Encounters. I don't really like B movies, or slasher films, but I like Halloween, and the first Friday the 13th scared the shit out of me. Drive Ins were great fun. Chris you should help bring them back. I'd like to see all your action figures. Poltergeist is another classic. Tron is ok, but classic video games are better. Creepshow is great. I like the comic book look. The Thing. It's cold, and snowing where I live. Kurt Russel is always good. I love all things Star Trek. Conan is great. Just like the character. 82 was a good year. Thanks guys.

Q is incredibly sharp, about a con man extorting the New York Police. Moriarty is amazing. classic. Star Trek 1 is better than you give credit It emulated 2001. Yes slow in pace, but deliberate and deep, The fantastic score led the way to the next generation, it was more of a movie than just a tv show on a big screen. The Enterprise was the star. find the you tube clip of the Enterprise in dry dock, if that doesn't stir you than try it again, the scene defines stirring. ET was a bit too manipulative for me but it is one of Williams finest scores.
