Davy, I was glad that you mentioned Castle of Blood (1964), I saw that movie last year. At first, I had low expectations. Then, I watched it and I thought what a masterpiece! I need to build up my Antonio Margheriti film collection. I only own Castle of Blood (1964) and Cannibal Apocalypse (1980). Margheriti was criminally underrated as a director.

--Horror films/performances that DESERVED more love from the Oscars/other cinematic awards
    --Favorite MINOR characters in horror
--WORST creative choices made/directions taken in horror franchises
    --Crossovers that SHOULD have happened

Yeah, I love it. The "Apocalypse Trilogy" of The Thing, Prince Of Darkness and In The Mouth Of Madness are all wonderful, I think. Prince's exploration of religion meeting science is much, much smarter than it gets credit for. As Carpenter himself said - in America he's a has been, in Europe...he's an artist!

The Von Erichs story is so friggin' sad that the biopic had to remove the death of TWO of the brothers (one was electrocuted at age six).
"Prince of Darkness" is pretty cool, but dear god what a dull male lead.
Speaking of "The Sopranos," a super underrated Gandolfini crime flick to check out is "The Drop." Upper tier Tom Hardy too.
    Few recent watches for me:
"Popcorn" for the first time since I was a kid. All I remembered about it was the classic tagline "Buy a bag. Go home in a box!" but it's actually pretty good, with a neat movies-within-the-movie gimmick. Dee Wallace sure did show up in some horror movies.
"The Murder Mansion" (1972)-slightly bland variation of the "Old Dark House" plot, though the twist is decent. Wouldn't have minded seeing that hot chick naked, but no such luck.
"Day of the Animals"-loved it, good kills, and unhinged Leslie Nielsen is tremendous.
"Alligator"-good fun! the two scenes where it's on the loose in the city and at the party are so great, plus all the jokes about Robert Forster going bald are hilarious. gonna watch the sequel tonight, which is supposed to suck!
"The Lodge"-one of those movies where if you think about what's happening the whole thing falls apart and possibly too bleak even for me (christ, that's a graphic suicide scene!)
"The Devil All the Time"-more bleak stuff here, but this is a lot better, with a rapey preacher played by Robert Pattinson and a subplot about a couple who kills guys after the wife bangs them (seriously). A fun time for all.

I'm a few days late, but I've been watching a little bit here and there...
I kicked off the new year by rewatching Natural Born Killers. Still holds up thirty years later!
My first film of the year was the latest Blumhouse/Atomic Monster production Night Swim starring Wyatt Russell. It was so-so, but not as bad as the critics make it out to be. It just had a bit of an identity crisis, not seeming to be sure as to whether it wanted to rip off The Shining, Jaws, or Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
I also recently rewatched this obscure 1994 film called S.F.W. (So Fucking What). It stars Stephen Dorff as this slacker named Cliff Spab, who is considered a national treasure after being videotaped as one of five individuals being taken hostage for 36 days by this terrorist group at some convenience store. And the only other survivor of the ordeal is played by Reese Witherspoon in one of her earliest roles. Badass soundtrack to this film, too - Soundgarden, Rainbow, Monster Magnet, et al.

When it comes to winter time, 70s movies captured the season perfectly.
For example Silent Night Bloody Night, & Black Christmas.
Not only do you feel the cold coming from the screen when watching the films, because the actors do look genuinely cold, but the movies also feel Christmassy despite a serial killer going on a rampage.
The opening scenes to Silent Night Bloody Night, Black Christmas instantly sets you in the mood compared to other movies set at Christmas with the fake snow & the actors sweltering in their winter clothes because it was filmed during the summer.

I’ve never followed wrestling and had no idea what the story was about but The Iron Claw blew me away. Definitely more a story about the brotherhood than about wrestling necessarily like you said. It hit me hard though. 2nd favorite film of last year. The time jumps didn’t bother me, I found everything to be very easy to follow. Interesting to hear that a brother was left out though.

Regarding the Von Erich’s fans are better off watching the documentaries Heroes of World Class, the documentary that WCCW & Kevin Von Erich made and The Triumph & Tragedy of World Class Championship Wrestling.
