Fun Fact: A History of Violence was a comic book adaptation. Also the LAST movie commercially released on VHS.

One of my top 5 directors of any genre, so hard too choose, but as of today:
    5. Scanners
    4. The Fly
    3. Naked Lunch
    2. Dead Ringers
    1. Videodrome
    Honourable mentions:
    Crash, Eastern Promises, Cosmopolis.

I remember reading an interview in the 1980's with John Carpenter in which at one point he was asked about Cronenberg and he said,"he's better than all of us." By the way,I first got into Cronenberg when one day my father comes home from work and asks me if I know David Cronenberg. I said yeah, why? It turns out they were filming scenes from Scanners where my father worked! I became a huge fan after that.

His CLASSIC body horror period ended in 1999 with EXistenZ. My favorites ranked:
    1. Scanners (1981) (starring Patrick McGoohan from Danger Man and The Prisoner)
    2. Shivers (1975) (influenced the movie Alien popping out of the chest scene)
    3. The Dead Zone (1983) (Christopher Walken's best role and like The Fly, it's SAD)
    4. The Fly (1986)
    5. Videodrome (1983)
    6. Rabid (1977)

    10. Dead Ringers (1988)
    11. Crash (1996)
    12. EXistenZ (1999)
    13. Naked Lunch (1991)

Another fun episode of The Monster's Den and great to have Rich, Chris and Pete back for an episode. The Dead Zone would be tops on my list and concur that it was a great adaptation of a gripping early Stephen King novel. But my takeaway from this episode is the need for a film titled What Lurks In The Attic and would be tour of Chris' attic. Thanks, gents, for plenty of laughs and some great film recommendations. Looking forward to the next episode.

3+ hour movies that don't suck off the top of my head, Spartacus, Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, Amadeus, The Godfather, Seven Samurai...I could keep going. Yes, they are monster epics, but sometimes you just need that extra running time. For horror, I would say works best at 90 minutes to 2 hours.

The reason that "Witchfinder General" had it's title changed to "The Conqueror Worm" for the US release, is that AIP wanted to make it part of their "Poe" cycle and "The Conqueror Worm" was a Poe title. Poe's poem had nothing to do with the Mathew Hopkins, though.

Excellent show guys! I agree, "The Dead Zone" is my favourite Cronenberg film, closely followed by "A History Of Violence" and then probably "Rabid." There is a recent film you might want to check out, called "A Disappearance On Clifton Hill," set here in Niagara Falls, and Cronenberg plays an acting role in it, and he's really good. Sort of a David Lynch style mysterious thriller. Good film. A couple of things about the Dead Zone. It was filmed in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, where I work each morning. They built the gazebo for the movie, which they did an extra good job on, as they gave it to the town as a gift in thanks for letting them film there. A couple of years ago they had to rebuild it, as it was becoming a bit shabby, but it's still there, and now looks just like it did in the movie. The final scene in which Walken tries to shoot Martin Sheen's character, was filmed in the town hall, on Queen Street, the main street, which is now mostly used as a theatre as part of the Shaw Festival. The scene where they take Walken to help them solve the serial killings, was shot at the Screaming Tunnel, an infamous local spot, which is about a ten minute drive from my house. My son and I have been there many times doing some ghost hunting, and we got some wild stuff there, but I think it is pretty quiet now. A girl I know got to dance with Martin Sheen at a bar in NOTL during filming. Everyone loved the cast there, and had nothing but good things to say about the entire production.

Would you consider doing a rant video with regards to horror movies much like you do with the music side of the channel.
It could be boring covers, tired old horror tropes they need to retire, or my rant would be remastered prints.
Remastered prints are a good thing, but what annoys me is that there is no universal definitive print of a movie unlike music artists who release definitive remastered music albums worldwide.
There can be 2 or 3 distribution companies that will have their own remastered print, so you could end up importing & paying over the odds just to get a decent print of the movie, or the so called definitive print wasn’t definitive enough because the grass was yellow, & it was meant to be green.
That’s my rant when it comes to buying movies.

I don't know if it's always the case, but I think he has an idiosyncratic style of directing using monitors to watch actors from another room, possibly lying on a couch. I think I saw that on a DVD extra for A Dangerous Method.

Love me some Scanners, I even enjoy the 2 sequels (not the cop ones) and I recently watched the new 4k releases of the 2 Scanner Cop flicks. Pure cheesefest ! Growing up in the 80's Cronenberg along with Carpenter and Lynch were my top 3 directors.

Though I liked the Fly a lot, I still have a soft spot for the original over it. There is just something about his early films that make them so cool. Of Course Dead Ringers is quite good and a History of Violence is a great later-day film.
    My Top 5 in chrono
    Rabid
    The Brood
    Scanners
    The Dead Zone
    Video Drome
