    Anyone watching this with blender 2.8: instead of "copy from active" to set rigid body settings, hit F3 and type "rigid" then click "copy rigid body settings"
    Edit: Hannibal Chow mentioned "2.8 go to object tab in the top right next to the add button scroll down to rigid body all options there." for those of you who would rather not use hotkeys.

    For people who have problem with detaching ball. Before creating sphere you should SELECT THE BOTTOM CHAIN IN EDIT MODE AND THEN CREATE THE SPHERE, so in that case it will be the same object and won't fall apart when you animate.

    4:46 In the most recent version of blender you have to press the ''.'' button to open a pie selector for the pivot point. Than select the 3D cursor as the pivot point, rotate and everything should be a bliss

      Anyone who has the issue I had with the 3D cursor not working. Select the top chain, then while holding shift select the rest of the ball and chains, after that press period or “.” Like the initial comment said, but I clicked “active element”. This is because the first chain you selected is considered active, so when you select everything else and click active element you are setting the top chain as the pivot point.

  • @pruusnhanna4422
    @pruusnhanna4422 6 років тому

    To use small or fast objects, increase "Steps per second" in the "Rigid Body World" tab to something higher than sixty (500-1000). It determines the "granularity" of the simulation, that is, the time increments between simulation steps. If it's too low, an object may pass through another object without the simulator noticing, because they never intersect. If you use small objects, time-steps need to be small, too. That means many steps per second. This will eliminate nasty fiddling with the timescale to get it somewhat right.

      @r4microds 10 років тому +6

      short tuts are awesome! It'd be awesome to have a series of short videos with cool experiments to get noobies (like me) into blender. :)

    • @BraedenLaverty
      @BraedenLaverty 10 років тому +16

      Short tutorials are good for little experiments, but the real learning happens in the longer ones. Boring or not, the extra content is what makes you learn the intricacy of the program. I will be the one to argue for not getting rid of in depth videos. I am sure that after a few dozen short ones, those users will long for videos that do more than just scratch the surface.

    • @GiovanniLucca85
      @GiovanniLucca85 10 років тому

      So the ideal is to make long tutorials for begginers and short quick tutorials for intermediates and advanced users... I believe that begginers are well served with content... just go to Blender Cookie or even you tube with "Blender Begginers" and you'll have a lot to chose from... Now for advanced users with solutions for complex tasks we don't have many options...

    • @r4microds
      @r4microds 10 років тому

      It's not that i dont enjoy long tuts. They're awesome, but it's nice to have a short one every little while just to keep us motivated while we wait for part2. I mean Andrew's tutorials that are in parts can had two weeks or so in between. When you're new, you either use those two weeks to polish up your skills or look for someone else's tut.

    Nice tutorial! Instead of using COPY FROM ACTIVE thingy, you can just set the first link to be a 'mesh collider' and then copy links from there...all will be setup as 'mesh collision'. Maybe do the texture as well before copying first link? You ROCK Andrew!

After Watching your tutorial, it inspired me to continue learning in getting the use of blender, sometimes I get confuse because of what I have download is the new version of blender so the functions are place quite different from your video.. all in all I really like the video it's easy to learn and understand. And the best part is I can see the key functions you input so learning is fun and very informative.. Hope one day I can be a great CG Designer. Hope you continue posting new videos of tutorials. Thank You Andrew Price.

    The reason it doesn't work well at a real scale is the Margin setting. If the links are too small, the margin basically fattens the collision shape by using the distance between the closest points of the shape and makes them overlap, resulting in them being pushed in random directions. So this margin is constant. If you set that to 0 or just something lower, and maybe adjust the accuracy or speed to compensate, it would work fine.

    Hello, I love this channel and the content it posts. Now, I’m sure I’m not the only one here who is a complete beginner to 3D editing. It is quite a bit difficult for me to keep up with the speed in which you do the tutorial. Sometimes you’ll hit an important button that you don’t mention and it’ll mess up my whole project making me watch your 30 minute video very slowly and meticulously not to miss any button you press or key you hit. I don’t think it will hurt anyone to go a little slower in your tutorials. Thank you!
