Try using cashew butter instead of sunflower butter to get a more neutral flavor for vegan vanilla ice cream! Also I tried the Tasty vanilla ice cream, and you can definitely taste the coconut, but it is good!
I was thinking exactly that about using cashew butter instead! Thanks for sharing about the Tasty recipe -- I don't mind coconut as much as the sunflower so I'll definitely try it!
If you knew how much I was waiting for another video of yours... Honestly, I've been loving your content for a long time already but the new creative journey you're on recently is just something else. Wow you're so inspiring!! I love this style of video where you show how you test new things and recipes. I wasn't really inspired lately but now I have tons of new ideas!! Thx for that :-)
Sarah! I love how your new content is looking! Seems so you and I'm loving the path you're taking with the whole reducing waste and more homemade things !
Dang Sarah, you are truly an artist in so many ways. Such a pleasure to watch this, you inspire me every time! And it's just so calming and relaxing at the same time! As for requests: a gluten free bread as gorgeous as the one you made here! Haha! But that's quite the challenge and for sure a long road to success, so I understand if you wouldn't be up for it since there's no need for you personally to do this. The short bread cookies look so amazing as well 😍 Anyway, keep on doing what you do and I will be enjoying it all anyway :)
Also I wanted to say that I love love love these videos, but as a suggestion for future video ideas I would absolutely love anything about your mental health especially in the state of the world. This year I’ve come to realize I have more issues mentally than I thought and have a lot of work to do but yeah, figured I’d mention it. No pressure at all. I know it’s extremely personal so totally up to you and what you’re comfortable sharing. So much love to you and Eric. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s podcast episode too btw 🤘🏼
Definitely would love to incorporate some mental health stuff, like I used to in older videos! It's a delicate topic and I feel a lot of responsibility to do it right 😅 but I will do an update soon! The year has been pretty crazy indeed.
Absolutely love this kind of videos! Especially when they are so long! For a nice simple ice cream base, I really love Avant-Garde Vegan's recipe, it's his mango and passion fruit one, but it's very easy to omit the fruit and just do the vanilla base and it's one of my favorites in those I've tried so far! I haven't tried the Tasty one, though and it also looks very nice, I would be interested to see you try it and to know what you think of it! Thanks for the great content :)
Before I went vegan, I used to sometimes have cappuccino made at home. I had a frother like the one you have, and after I frothed the milk in it, (skim milk), I would put it in the microwave for about 10 or 15 seconds, and it would make the foam thicker and stiffer, so that it would stay on top of the coffee instead of blending into the coffee. I've never tried it with plant based milk, though, so I don't know if it would work.
Next time use cashew or almond butter in your ice cream base. OR make a regular custard with plant milk and sugar and corn starch....or maybe even egg replacer. Either way, Make a regular custard. :) just without eggs. I love molasses!! I made molasses cookies last week but honestly the recipe.....ugh way too much ginger.
Have you tried milling grain in the VitaMix? It isn't ideal (a grain mill is on my wish-list!) but it does work adequately, although I'd say it doesn't get the flour fine enough for 100% whole grain doughs. One caution, though, is that it does scratch up the plastic container. I even just use the regular blade, although I'm sure the dry blade would work marginally better. It does heat up the grain as it processes, but I store my grain in the freezer and then do only a cup or so at a time and it doesn't get too hot. If you're looking for more whole grain sourdough inspo, check out Elly's Everyday Sourdough here on YT. Thanks for the great video!
I have been wondering whether I should try milling grains in the Vitamix! For some time I had the specialized pitcher on my wish list. I'll do a little more research but I think it's definitely worth trying! Glad to know you've had some luck with it. And thanks for that sourdough resource! I just can't get enough.
Great video. I make a very simple ice cream using coconut milk. Blend 2 cans full fat coconut milk, 1/2-3/4 cup real maple syrup and 1 tablespoon real vanilla. Also awesome maple walnut adding maple extract too and toasted walnuts at the end. Coconut chocolate almond adding almond extract and toasted unsweetened coconut and almonds at the end. So delicious. It gets hard if you freeze it for a long time but it’s so simple and absolutely delicious.
@@SarahsVeganKitchen I'd be interested to know too! Like getting my money's worth 🤣 carrot tops grow well & are apparently the most nutritious part of the veg but other than that, I'm pretty clueless!
@@SarahsVeganKitchen Celery bottoms in a shallow dish of water. Keep replenishing the water every day & in a few weeks you'll see new stalks. (Then you can plant them in soil if you like.) Thanks so much! It was super fun to shoot this way, without necessarily feeling the pressure to come up with a ton of new recipes with precise measurements.
Do you use an air fryer ever? I just tried mine for the first time (it was sitting in its box for two years waiting). I was amazed how crispy and crunchy the tempeh strips came out, even without any oil.
That Trader Joe's chicken-less seasoning is a ramen packet in a bottle. So good! Spaghetti and clams is something I grew up with and dearly miss. Makes so much sense to use dried mushrooms. Can't wait to make this!
I don’t know how long this video took to film and edit, but the videography is absolutely beautiful. If you’re into making milks and cheeses from scratch, check out Gourmet Vegetarian Kitchen if you don’t already. Really beautiful videos on making a lot of nut-based cheeses from scratch.
thanks so much! Living more sustainably is something I've been soooo interested in lately...I'm far from perfect right now but I hope to make a lot of changes for the better in the coming months!
@@SarahsVeganKitchen As a fellow anxious human, you may have already found, becoming aware of environmental issues is scary and overwhelming. It's important to remember the world doesn't need us all to be perfect, just to do what we can :) xx
I've been making kefir since May, even my dad drinks and loves it even tho he's not so much about "healthy food trends" 😄 And about the sunflower ice cream, i suppose the use of sunflower is because of the lecithin which acts as an emulsifier. Soy is also rich in lecithin (hence is normally used for vegan mayo), you could try just soy milk or buy lecithin granules!
That's a good call! Come to think of it, I use sunflower lecithin granules in my homemade butter so that makes perfect sense! I may give it another try with the soy too.
Such an enjoyable video!! At first when you were talking about the kefir I thought you said "I've been making homemade water" just plain lmao and it gave me a chuckle
You might enjoy washed flour seitan? I love it its such a fun process and so cheap, all you need is a bag of flour (high gluten like bread flour works best). Needs a little patience to get right but if you are in the mood for experimenting its well worth the effort
omg I made that many years ago in college before it was easy to find vital wheat gluten in stores! Haha it took awhile but it really was so satisfying! I would love to try it again now that I'm a better cook.
There's some ingredient Sauche Stache reviewed that helps liquids - including soy + almond + oat - froth better, for things like coffee. I can't remember what it is.
I would love a recipe for that curry! One of the sauces your sister used looked especially thick, and I am super interested in the details of the flavor imparting ingredients she used!
Next time we make it I'll try to get all her measurements! She always adds Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, extra curry powder and a bit of extra soy sauce.
Your videography looks very professional and I can tell you put a lot of work into your editing!! Thank you for making the video! Watching your video has made me very hungry too!
I saw on your instagram that you're not dyeing your hair again... are you just letting it fade and doing nothing to maintain/keep up the color? I don't like how mine looks when it fades, but yours looks soo nice! and I also dont want to dye mine again haha. what did you use?
I have a few bottles of Arctic Fox color to use up, but after I go through it I'm def going to just let it fade out and grow in naturally! Luckily this lavender color and the pink I have seem to fade to a nice pastel, but I haven't had as much luck in the past with more vibrant colors so your mileage may vary!
Thank you for your videos Sarah, love love LOVE this content! So happy you share your enthousiasm for from scratch process and cooking with us :) Also, not food related, but DAMN, WOMAN, is there a hair colour that you don't look good into?!!
Hi Sarah! I've been around since your "hot dog" video. My young son and I love watching your videos for inspiration. He's in camp "mushrooms are yuck" but he's just said he wants to eat the mushroom pasta you made. What are the ratios? Thank you in advance!
Aw that's so cute! I didn't measure but I'd say we probably used roughly: -1/2 cup dried shiitakes soaked in boiling water with a piece of kombu to make the "fishy" broth -half a white onion, diced -a tablespoon minced garlic -2-3 tablespoons minced parsley -2 tablespoons veg butter or olive oil -pinch red pepper flakes -sliced lemon -half a pound of linguine, plus reserve a splash of pasta water Alternatively, I think you could probably follow any good non-vegan linguine and clam sauce recipe! You could substitute an equivalent volume of king oyster or shiitake mushrooms for the clams in the recipe. Hope that helps! I'll try to get a more precise recipe up on the blog soon!
I made a vegan clam chowder before and it is AMAZING!! Have you ever seen “seafood mushrooms” at your Asian grocer? So unusual how fishy the flavor is. What if you did it in a sourdough bread bowl?! Ok also another Asian grocery fun fact: I’ve found pork, beef, chicken, and mushroom bouillon that is vegan for v cheap :0

Do you use an air fryer ever? I just tried mine for the first time (it was sitting in its box for two years waiting). I was amazed how crispy and crunchy the tempeh strips came out, even without any oil.
Absolutely! We use ours very often for roasting veggies, crisping up frozen goodies, etc. I'll try tempeh strips!
That Trader Joe's chicken-less seasoning is a ramen packet in a bottle. So good!
Spaghetti and clams is something I grew up with and dearly miss.
Makes so much sense to use dried mushrooms. Can't wait to make this!
Yes! Chicken ramen seasoning is exactly what it reminds me of haha.
I must admit the Violife vegan cheese is my favourite one.
It's so good! I made the best vegan mac n cheese with it for Thanksgiving and my sister even loved it!
The tasty vanilla ice cream recipe is amazing I do it all the time and I think it’s the best vegan ice cream you can make at home 10/10!!
Oh awesome! I'm so excited to try it now and I'm glad you love it!
Thank you so much! I will definitely check out Gourmet Vegetarian Kitchen!
Could you add who the sunflower icecream recipe is by? Would love to check out the videos about fake meats etc 🥰
The channel is "Sauce Stache." He's great! Super knowledgeable. I would love to test out of a few more of his recipes.
Loved this so many great ideas in one place! Also so pleased to hear you talking about the environment and reducing waste on your channel :D
thanks so much!
You said Pfeffernüsse pretty good 👍
I basically never comment on YT videos but I wanted to congratulate you on this one. The lighting and sound are perfect! Great job!
Yay, thank you!
The rice and beans looks soooo good. Loving the cosy recipes.
I love your cooking
Would love more of these videos I'm into the rice and beans meal I'm making that this week yum
Loved this style!
thanks so much!
Idk if you know this but maangchi has a vegetarian kimchi recipe. I'm sure it's also vegan.
I will check that out! I love Maangchi! It seems every time I make kimchi I try out a new recipe so maybe I'll give hers a try next!
I would love to try it again now that I'm a better cook.
thank you, love this style of video
Cheap Lazy Vegan has a Vegan Kimchi Recipe that's delicious 💜
There's some ingredient Sauche Stache reviewed that helps liquids - including soy + almond + oat - froth better, for things like coffee. I can't remember what it is.
Good to know! I'll have to find that video.
omg, that curry looks so good! 😭
highly recommend! it's the best comfort food.
@@SarahsVeganKitchen Honestly, these look so good. I might try at least half of them!
Is anyone able to find the ice cream recipe she was talking about?
Thx for your work and for promoting the vegan lifestyle =) greetings
I would love a recipe for that curry! One of the sauces your sister used looked especially thick, and I am super interested in the details of the flavor imparting ingredients she used!
Next time we make it I'll try to get all her measurements! She always adds Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, extra curry powder and a bit of extra soy sauce.
WOW this is so impressive, everything looks absolutely delicious!
the rice and beans look so good. more rice and bean content plz
Absolutely! Maybe I can do a video just about ways to jazz up rice and beans. :) We make a batch almost every week!
Sarah, what proofing basket do you use? Any brand you can recommend? I am sure you have done some research on them! Thank you :)
Looking soo yummy!!
Your videography looks very professional and I can tell you put a lot of work into your editing!! Thank you for making the video!
Watching your video has made me very hungry too!
Thank you so much!!
Loved this video !!!!!!!!
Love this style of video!!!
Yeah. This has so much goodness that I’ll have to watch it again 💕
Aw thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoy!
So glad you’re back! I’ve been like, “where the heck is all this yummy stuff she’s been making??!”.
Haha I definitely disappeared for awhile there. Took me a long time to get all this footage into one video. 😂 More soon!
Luckily this lavender color and the pink I have seem to fade to a nice pastel, but I haven't had as much luck in the past with more vibrant colors so your mileage may vary!
love this style of video
Loving your hair color. I hope you're as happy as you look. :)
Aw wow, I'm honored! Thank you so much.
@@SarahsVeganKitchen I've made these several times. It's def a favorite around here. :)
very interesting about the kefir drink!!! i always learn something new from your videos
Aw thanks! My mom's into a bunch of fermentation projects as well and she introduced me to the kefir, actually!
Love the style of this video so much! Excellent work! Hope you have a nice rest of your week!
Thank you for your videos Sarah, love love LOVE this content! So happy you share your enthousiasm for from scratch process and cooking with us :)
Also, not food related, but DAMN, WOMAN, is there a hair colour that you don't look good into?!!
Hi Sarah! I've been around since your "hot dog" video. My young son and I love watching your videos for inspiration. He's in camp "mushrooms are yuck" but he's just said he wants to eat the mushroom pasta you made. What are the ratios? Thank you in advance!
Aw that's so cute! I didn't measure but I'd say we probably used roughly:
-1/2 cup dried shiitakes soaked in boiling water with a piece of kombu to make the "fishy" broth
-half a white onion, diced
-a tablespoon minced garlic
-2-3 tablespoons minced parsley
-2 tablespoons veg butter or olive oil
-pinch red pepper flakes
-sliced lemon
-half a pound of linguine, plus reserve a splash of pasta water
Alternatively, I think you could probably follow any good non-vegan linguine and clam sauce recipe! You could substitute an equivalent volume of king oyster or shiitake mushrooms for the clams in the recipe. Hope that helps! I'll try to get a more precise recipe up on the blog soon!
Thank you so much! I made it for dinner tonight and made sure to show him the video clip first. He ate as if he’d never seen food before!
I'm with you on the molasses front.. can't even tolerate commercial breads baked with it
😅I wish I could like it more! I don't mind it in smaller amounts (like a milder gingerbread cookie) but it was veryyyyy strong in this case.
I love all your videos (without exceptions) but i must say that the editing on this one is beyoooond ! And you look amazing too
Thank you so much!!
I have an amazing vegan vanilla ice cream recipe if you're interested! :)
You're awesome and remind me of myself.
Great video! So many great ideas! Thanks for all your hard work & everything you do!✌🏼
I made a vegan clam chowder before and it is AMAZING!!
I haven't seen that variety of mushroom but now I will be on the lookout! Vegan chowder in a bread bowl would be AMAZING -- such a good idea!
Lots of great tips!
Bone char? I did not know that was in sugar 😧 I feel so bad.
