Electric to Gas Conversion | 420cc Street Legal Golf Cart Build Pt. 2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- We're taking an old, rusty, and worn out electric EZ Go golf cart and we're converting it to run on a high performance built Predator 420cc engine, producing around 20hp and a ton of torque. Given that this golf cart was originally equipped with a 2 horsepower electric motor, we're multiplying the horsepower by ten times. Additionally, we find out that someone had made previous modifications to the front and rear suspension that we need to fix before we try any serious off roading or high speeds.
Thanks for Watching!

13 minuets?!?!
I would love a 30 min special!
Same fr
Deagan Oto they have lives outside of UA-cam. 13 min is more than enough.
Yes i would love 30 minutes
Da Jack Is Back bro it’s just an idea chill
For real
You guys have come so far in the quality of your vids....but somehow retain the great “it’ll be fine” do it yourself appeal. Great job guys!!!
Who else loves these amazing videos?
Meeeee
Only the 600k subs lol
I sure do!
@TR Johnson I think they are reading from a teleprompter now or something... they lost their personality it seems so.. generic now
I agree TR Johnson. Definitely lack of content lately. Little to nothing accomplished in this video. Still love you guys tho.
@CarsandCameras use a heim joint in the front instead of a bolt. Much more flex.
Only issue is it needs to be able to change length or it will bind. They need a slip joint in there as well. Think about how a drive shaft works on a leaf spring car
I was just talking about the point of contact to the frame. You could add a slip joint behind it with whatever they want be it round stock or square. I've watched alot of there videos and know that it will try to see a Max speed. I'd like to see it stronger than just a bolt.
Derek Zuidema
It’s kinda just a bolt either way lol
But yea I understand what you’re saying.
If they ran a soft rubber bush they might get away with not adding a slip joint. I think that would be a better option for keeping it simple’s sake.
Other option is to line the pivot up with the front eyes of the leaf spring.
You don’t need a slip joint there isn’t that much suspension travel.
Logan Hinc like I said with a rubber bush I agree it’d be fine. With a heim I think it would be an issue, of course with the whole thing being a bit flimsy it might flex elsewhere and still not bind
I honestly could watch you guys fix that thing up half an hour at a time.. Great video can't wait to see it done!
Longer videos please!!!!!! Even if its stuff you guys thinks boring I'll watch it!!!! Glad axle side of mounts tuff I'd have considered u bolting it on for removability later on looks like a fun project
“We take our safety alot more seriously”
(Sawzall proceeds to fall on Ike’s nuggets)
There is nothing more funny and painful than watching someone taking a saw to the nads.
Easy solution (relatively speaking) to your engine placement/ ride height issue... stretch the wheelbase. There's plenty of room in the rear frame section to push the rear end back a few inches. Get rid of the leaves, fabricate a triangulated 4 link and put coil overs on it. That would be AWESOME with the Miata wheels and would let you pretty much lay frame if you wanted.
My gas cart uses a belt from the motor to the rear axle for driving the wheels. I have a lift kit under it and large tires. Great project you have . Good luck getting it going.
I have a coworker who put a Hayabusa engine in a golf cart.
He had custom axles made for it.
Absolute insanity.
Golf cart plus squid missile engine equals one extreme beast.
Loving these street legal golf cart build.
I really like how nothing actually phases you guys, niiiiiiice.
Ooooooh boooy but it's gettin closer to the finish line.
This “Dude” still rocking those 1990s sideburns!!!
Hey guys here's a tip for you from a UA-camr page name, Go Karts or Gone Foshin demonstrated how putting bar soap on the Sawzall blade keeps it from sticking.
That is tip of the month.
Thanks Nate!!
Does anyone else sometimes not watch episodes and just listen to them in background or walk away only so they get the views and hit the like button because they love cars and camera's so much? Or am i all alone on this?
this will be great and it'll be fine learning a lot watching you guys and its helping so much W/my projects little hint everytime myself family or friends went to do a golf cart elec to gas conversion always used U bolts to connect to alum rear end curve around axle tube bolts thru plate or angle iron
You guy's are epic please don't ever change keep the great work.
Love the project. A couple things, on a leaf spring suspension the axle moves front to rear as the suspension flexes, chain tension might be affected. Mounting the engine on the frame side is fine, as long as the front chain sprocket is even with the frame side suspension pivot, if they pivot at the same spot chain length is not affected. Lastly, if you want to lower it more, cut the mounts off of the axle and roll the axle forward 90 degrees or so.
Ok, I totally dig it! Will probably be my next project.
What your doing is similar to installing ladder bars . When I did that on a leaf spring car . I used floater brackets on leaf mounts to keep it from binding up
Watch this instead of the half time show. Great content! 👍
I want too see y’all one day but I live in Colombia
The one thing of advice I can offer you is be very conscious of where that differential is when you’re riding this thing around. I used to work at a local college and we had two of these karts that ended up wearing holes in the diff pans, even at stock height. Thankfully one only temporarily locked up, while the one before it blew out bearings and was all kinds of goofed. 🤦🏻♂️ other than that, I’m loving this build series and I think it’d be cool to make my own one day, but find a way to keep the electric start. 🤔😁
Them Miata wheels are gonna look sooooo good on there!!!
Dude these guys do some kickass stuff man on this channel wish it were longer episodes though✌
Can't wait guys!
The best part of every Monday. Love your videos!
Little work to do on that old cart. Looking forward to the next video.✌️✌️✌️✌️
Milwaukee makes a "Diablo" metal cutting blade for chop saws now. No sparks and cuts like butter!
Motorcycles have the output sprocket from the engine mounted solid, but the rear wheel is on the swingarm. Just set the chain slop carefully, and it should work. What you would be worried about is twist. Like, on wheel @ full bump, and the other @ full droop. That can work if the chain is long enough to make the misalignment "minor".
Oor convert to independent rear suspension. So the movement is handled by axleshafts, and hubs are separate from the driven sprocket.
Good Job Guys! Taking time to make it stout!
If I'm not mistaken those rear ends are like 18or16 to 1 ratio .. found that out when my buddy put a ninja 636 in his .. it did like 12 mph I 6th gear at 13000 rpm
Good Morning Cars and Camera fans!! Another great start to a Monday!!
Yeeeehaaawww.! Goodmorning.!
It's Tuesday in Australia today
@@bobdavis3892 That's awesome bro.! Your in the future compared to USA
Dustin Epley its good but that means that I have to go to school☹️
@@bobdavis3892 Stay in school it's Good for you.! I'm out of school and I'm at work haha
Interested to see how the gearing works out. Wonder what the internal gearing in on the rear?
3:42 finally I found a video where somebody did what I did kind of. I actually put a swing arm on the back of my golf cart from the donor bike. It ride smooth like a Cadillac is Scott Polaris front suspension Polaris motor flares transmission with the Polaris swingarm, I stretched it 5 inches to the front and 7 1/2 inches in the back I’m still using a thumb throttle but I need to change it out so I can have a throttle pedal. I did however use the golf cart steering wheel and gearbox to slow the steering down it was way too sketchy otherwise.
The golf carts are the new side by side.
Incognito fun. Keep it on the DL. Nobody looks hard at golf carts. I need to build one with hydraulics for a box blade. Pull a gang mower with it. Haul logs. Flail mower!
i think you were a little too worried about the front end. my 82 ezgo has the exact front end suspension on it. i've jumped it, gone off roading, done hill climbs, etc. never had an issue. those half leaf springs do a pretty good job of keeping everything in place. just reinforce the frame where they bolt on and it should be fine. if your really worried then add suspension limiting strap or something.
Quick idea for anit-vibration mounting. Place rubber washers under/between the bolt holes or frame mounts. Simple, and probably not very original, but should work.
Im also doing a crazy project im trying to put a predator 212 in a razor scooter
I put an 570cc engine on a scooter once.....it was awesome!!! The video is on my UA-cam channel if you want to see it do wheelies.
@@marksshop3029 I saved your video to watch later
@@pizzamanyoutubewatcherofal3947 Thanks so much!!!
@excelent with technology I watched the vid sooo cool
@@countryboyforlife2921 Thanks!
You should name this project the Caddyshack lol.
The Caddyshagger!
That thing is going to be awesome and NC will regret making them legal!! 😂
are golf carts legal in all NC towns or just the town they are in?
I'm sure we can't have them here in the dirty-D.
dirty D?@@ruthlessreid9172
@@epicminecraftgamer1 Durham yeah some snotty nose kid from Cary coined it kinda stuck.
Are they legal state wide?
your gear ratio in that rear diff is 6:1, so probably be slower then you may expect but should have good torque.great video as usual.
John, do yourself a favor and learn from us older guys and get some proper hearing protection. Those ear bud plugs will not cut it for later in life. I've worked with power tools most of my 55yrs, and I'm paying for it now, don't make the same mistake. Just a word of advice. Love you guys!
I'm not a fan of electronic ear plugs, though the 3m electric ear muffs are nice. Do agree though, ear buds for a phone, does not help enough to cancel power tools.
I think ear protections is great, but have never used it.
Im a structural steel foreman (installing big heavy steel staircases, i-beams, anything to do with huge heavy pieces of steel that need fabricated in place) and I don’t use ear/hearing protection much except for when ive got the giant hilti hammer drill out and im drilling holes in concrete... the noise that these hammer drills make will have you deaf in no time
Hes using what looks like the orange foam plugs with the connecting bar. Those things are still rated at ~32db, about as good as you'll get without custom fit wax/putty ones.
I’m 45 and I’m tired of the noise haha.
I got about 3 -4 sets of headsets around the shop along with disposable earplugs if ya want those, or not.
Your choice.
And safety glasses.
Buy like 10 pairs , walk in your shop and throw them all over.
That way you can find em when you need em.
So far I got all my limbs intact, i I tend to stay that way.
I’m sure loud machinery and music has and will take its toll on me eventually.
And loud cars are cool for a minute, until you ride 500mi in one.
So now , if I want loud I get an electric exhaust cutout and keep it closed 90% of the time 😬
Four wheeler engine perhaps? Or Go Karts or Gone fishing video? Just calling a mixer! Big fan of y'all !! It'll be fine!!!
Always awesome!! CarsandCameras!!!!!
Don't know if this is any use to you, but there is a front disc brake kit made for the "Cushman hauler pro" which has rods to brace the front end and prevent it twisting (along side disc brakes). The front axle is basically the same as (what I assume yourse is) an ezgo front axle, might be Worth looking into/ mimicking trying to make it more safe (bear in mind, golf cars are designed to 19mph max, the only golf cars I know which are road legal can only do 25mph max).
Hi Ike, look up some 8 inch steel building purlings they might make engine plats for future builds
Make it into a tuner kart! Then enter some autocross events with it in Wilmington! Doooo itttt!!
You can mount the engine to the body with a chain on a cart that has rear suspension. You either need to have a tensioner on it, which is not the best, or putt he sprocket at the pivot point of the suspension. The suspension can not flex side to side though. It can only go up and down. You need to have trailing arm suspension with a solid cross brace so it does not flex. Otherwise you need to turn the engine sideways and get a dif from an ATV and go with drive shaft.
I would love to see that thing go to 100 I can’t wait to see it
Guys love the videos of the gokart builds and rebuilds and this new golf cart project. But as a classic car guy when are we going to see some progress on that truck?
Good afternoon sitting here watching this thinking it shure would be nice to be there where its warm. Its going to be a high of -13 here on Wednesday with windchill putting it close to -50
Nice video guys . Can't wait to see the how this turns out. Safety first Ike .watch them nuggets lol .
I love these videos! ...Almost as much as I love Go Power Sports (link in the description)!
I can’t wait to see it!
Great project, what'r ye gonna do for a reverse gear ?
That thing is gonna be sick
Really excited about this build. Keep up the good work guys
Coldsaw boys, You'll love it. NO MORE SPARKIES.
Please do something with the Murray mini bike. I will love to see what you guys would do to make it better.
Funny. Watching Ike's eyes while John is talking, funny, I know Ike has his own channel, but I thought this channel was for you guys as a team working and building stuff, but Ike very seldom gets to say anything.
Just saying, I apologise if I'm outta line, but just funny watching Ike sometimes...
Stan and Ollie are at it again....
You should do a comparison of the predeter 212 and the Honda gx200
Just curious, why not mount the engine over the axle? Some jackshaft action would have gotten it in place and out of danger... just wondering is all.
Thanks for the videos you two guys are pretty cool👍😎
WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!!!
IT PROBABLY WON'T BE FINE!!!!!
That trans axle stub shaft isn't designed for a side load from the chain on the torque converter. Ike had mentioned using the electric motor case to support it. Not doing that is taking a big chance it eats the bearings and destroys the transaxle.
Up!!!
i dont think they have intentions for it to last forever
@@2011metalmaniac yeah I'm talking first or second hammer drop. It needs to be supported on a shaft with a bearing on both sides of the chain. Even putting a side load on the bearing in there with an outer bearing support may kill it. Get a gas cart axle. And you can lower it by going spring under the axle and the swing arm. Will stay in the same relation to the body. That's the right way to do it anyway.
@@jasonbirch1182 I dont know much about these axles if i honest. They look similar to a mobility scooter axle which i use to repair a few years ago. This looks like a good solution, well some guy has done exactly same project: ua-cam.com/video/94P0Nkxw47w/v-deo.html also same idea ua-cam.com/video/pE8uvICRAII/v-deo.html
looking good.. I cant wait to see the next segment.. :)
Yo guys that rear end situation is fairly common you could have pressed out the shaft on the electric motor and used the splined female to create a jack shaft that would have allowed for you to keep the engine centered. But all carts aren't the same and most who do this conversion settle for the rear mounted setup. But you fellas will figure it out. 👍✌
Be blessed Jah Rastafari Selassie I Jah
Probably too late now, but what if you mounted the engine over and behind the rear axle?
You could mount the engine on the body "if" the engine shaft aligned perfectly with the pivot point of the rear swing arms. That way the articulation of the swing arms and the chain would be equal.
When are you guys going to do a continuation of this video want to see how fast you guys make this golf cart go. I may want to try to convert mine over. I have a three wheeled one.
When you remove the governor can you still go full throttle without blowing up the motor
Ike needs his own channel!
You should do a review of all the builds you guys have built
put the 900cc ducati engine on it i would love to see that. it would be beast man. Loving the buuild
I don't remember the proper name of it but I remember a video that makes a go kart go into reverse idk if it'll be an idea for later on for the golf cart
Talk about unsprung weight!
I'm having a hard time understanding the trouble with mounting the engine and running a chain to the rear. How to dirt bikes and four wheelers accomplish this task with the engine mounted to a solid frame and the rear has suspension???
Not sure if it has to operate like a golf cart to pass a tech inspection, but gas powered golf carts have an electric starter operated by the gas pedal. Pull starting may be an issue.

Is there any reason you cant mount a jackshaft at the exact pivot of the rear axle and run a chain to the diff and another to the engine? Would that work or am i oversimplifying it?
Could yall make the vids LONGER , I’m not trying to bash y’all or hate on the videos it just seems to me like as soon as I get into the video it’s over , then I have to wait a whole 2 days from Monday to Wednesday then 4 days from Wednesday to Monday , it wouldn’t really bother me if y’all didn’t change the time of the videos I just really wish they were longer , I know y’all have jobs and lives to live but it’s just a thought , I’ve been watching y’all since 2013 and I love the content keep up the good work. 👍🏻
@carsandcameras use a heim joint for the pivot point. Check out red beards garage to see how they did it. It will work with no binding
Do you guys still have the transaxle that you took out of the racing mower
Just put a 670 in!!!! Lol love the videos keep it up.

Awesome videos. I always look forward to the videos
The differential in the back isnt made for high torque. We have a couple of these older model golf carts and the differential gives quite a bit of trouble.
Need to know what size and bore sprocket for the read differential
guessing the tumbler was a 1x deal? not for sale on the site that I can see :) - be careful drinking sparks
Use a himes joint with wide space or ball joint or even tie rod end on front of the motor plate
Things going to be wicked. Imagine if this had a gearbox
Hey what happened to the plasma cutter? Would have made cutting a lot quicker
Im just throwint this out there but couldn't you use a balljoint on one end
Can't wait to see this beast rolling on Miata wheels lol
I know it's a little to late but U guys should put like a 2 to 3 speed transmission on that for when u go up hills and stuff
Hey guys, check out the gear ratio of that ELECTRIC golf cart rear end. It's somewhere between 24:1 to 27:1. What that means is you will end having CRAZY torque but no speed. I built one a few years back using a Kawasaki Vulcan 750cc C twin with shaft drive. I was able to connect the drive from the engine directly to the rear end the same as it was connected to the back tire of the bike. 1st. Gear lol the clutch the front end would come 8-10 I inches off the ground 😁😁 then all the way up to 5th at 7000rpm and you could walk faster. Ended up using the rear end out a Chevy Extreme pickup. I'll send a few pictures if anyone is interested.
Ike’s expressions at the start of the video 🤣 he’s not so sure
Buy some flap discs for your angle grinder and clean the areas you plan to weld to. The welds will be much easier to do and the finished product will be a lot stronger.
Ricky bobby makes golf carts now !
Love your vids! Turn your welder heat up a little.
