Things have changed a bit since I was an army apprentice, joining the RAMC Apprentice College not long after my 16th birthday in 1976. Like these guys, the emphasis was on education, and we all left there after 18 months with a trade (medical assistant, or CMT today) and extra GCSEs. As ex apprenti, we were always regarded as the future leaders for our corps, or so we were led to believe. I had no regrets on joining. I continued for 9 years or so. I made plenty of lifelong friends and many good experiences. I've often thought if I could have my life again, would I have done the same thing or would I have taken a different direction? I wasn't that crash hot at school, so university was out of the question for me, so I probably would have ended up staying in my home town in a mediocre job. I think the army gave me an opportunity for a decent future, with some travel, adventure, a decent profession, and a solid background with strong life skills and personal discipline. These guys are on the right track. They have a good attitude, good training and good mentorship. Good luck to them all.
Hey mate just want to say thank you for all the videos. Been watching for a while now, you’ve got some really good videos on good topics, really helped me out. Just now getting to the end of a 6 month long application process, got my basic training date on the 24th of July in catterick. All the best pal 🤙
My Son is currently going through the process of applying for Harrogate..I'm Ex Artillery too - 1st RHA and also served with 40th Field Regiment as part of 7th Armoured Brigade - The Desert Rats in Iraq.. I'm hoping he chooses the same but to be honest I'm happy with whatever he chooses.
Very helpful mate, planning to join summer next year(16) Edit: just got to the bit on sleeping schedules, I'm watching this at 03:50 yeah that'll be hard to get used too
Just passed assessment centre didn't get the required score on bleep test wanted infantry ended up going for royal artillery just found you channel going to research alot of your videos before going to Harrogate in march
Do you do p company at 16 in harrogate? Applied for paras few month ago need to put 3kg on and I’m going to assessment centre when I’ve put the waight on
I’m going to Harrogate on 18th September in just over a month I have a few questions but I want to know what happens on weekends I’ve been told that u can go home/ off site but I won’t be able to go home does that mean I will just do nothing on the weekends or do I still do stuff in the collage thanks 👍
Normally you have to stay for the first 4-6 weeks then has you go through training you will find you will have more spare time on the weekends to go home extra. You will find the first few weeks are very busy but if you get past them Harrogate can be really fun. 👍🏻
I’m not sure what your budget is but I have put some recommendations below, I would definitely recommend a trail shoes as most of the running will be on different terrains you won’t always be on road or paths. Hey, my son just failed his pre med and we can’t work out why as he hasn’t had any major issues over the years. Any clue how we can appeal this and get him to the place he really wants to go to. Thank you so much
He should have received a message on his army portal stating the reason why he has been rejected or deferred. Once you know what it is reply to me I can give you a bit more help. Failing this you can contact the careers office and speak to his candidate manager he will be able to give you some direction to finding out the problem.

Do a video of military training in the infantry back in the 70's.This lot wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes. Beaten up by your NCO, dogs set on you while stood at attention, bed blocks every morning that had to be perfect, no carpets the lino had to be gleaming and this is what has happened to the British army. Do you really think this lot would have taken back the Falklands?
Hang on Kyle -- £600 to £700 on chocolates "rinsed down the NAFFI." Are you trying to corrupt these young men and women (lol)? Seriously though, are they allowed any alcohol at all in the NAFFI, or is it strictly off limits?
@@KyleSmithFIT Kyle -- It seems to me that the British Army is running a monastery/nunnery with no alcohol for soldiers who can engage an enemy at 400 m. How about a drink at Christmas for the trainees?
My daughter is in this video. She joined as a musician and is now in The Grenadier Guards Band
