I got deferred 3 year ago and I’ve got selection in 2 days great video
Claimed my nerves hearing that is basically the same as when I did it
Passed my selection back in august , start in feb , most worried about medical but passed with no problems , I recommend you do the technical text even if you aren’t sure what job you want to do as it opens a few more options for you 👍🤙 good luck to all !
What did you do to train for ac?
Hi mate I didn’t prepare as much as I’d of liked of but I made sure I did the MSFT three times a week and I was fine 🤙
Hi mate what do they ask you for medical? And do they go by what medical history you've given them?
I went to our recruitment office had my aptitude test, maths English etc, and then the same day off for a medical, passed no problem, and that was it, I was offered various positions I opted for an Infantry Regiment The Sherwood Foresters Regt that was at age 15 1/2 I went in Sept 1969, left in 1983 great days. Now it takes forever because it's mainly a civilian company doing it, there are some military advisors but it takes far, far too long. high time it was given back to our own military and sack the civvies.
I made the mistake of being TOO honest on the medical, I am waiting for my GP to write me up a clean bill of health letter so I can continue, I've worked so hard to get to this point so I was heartbroken to see the red box saying no, because of a past medical issue. Fingers crossed my letter will get me back in
Do you mind sharing what the issue was mate? Just trying to gauge what they consider a big enough issue to cross you off for.

Great video mate. Recently started my own UA-cam channel to do with the army and your videos are giving me some real good inspiration. Thank you!
Well this went down like a lead balloon what happened big man?
Hi Kyle,
I recently signed up and honestly, I’m very nervous about this because I’m not if I’m honest physically very fit but I’m starting to train myself up, starting with walking and running.
That’s the most of my worries because I am overweight (I’m not gonna beat around the bush). As well as having Mild Aspergers as well which I feel might fail me if I’m not careful, and whilst it doesn’t affect me a lot, it has affected me job wise.
Having a look at the video has given me some piece of mind because it gives me a good idea what to expect honestly.
I’m still nervous and frankly frightened but I’m glad there’s someone here to explain how everything is going to work, because most of this I could probably do, even if I’m not extremely strong or very fast.
I feel like the army can really help me in confidence, discipline and weight issues.
Thank you so much for this video, it means a lot to hear what people who have been there have to say, and I can assure you that I will certainly give it my all no matter what.
Awesome mate, glad this video has helped you. Time to work hard on your fitness now 💪🏻
I wish you the best of luck and if you get stuck along the way just drop me a comment on a video 👍🏻
@@KyleSmithFIT Hiya,
There is one thing I did get stuck with. After watching your video, you mentioned that I should make sure I have proof/certificates of my GCSEs.
However the problem is that for all of my education, I was never given a certificate for my GCSEs even though I passed English, Maths, Science and Art. I was given a piece of paper (now lost after 6 years) with the grades on.
How do I go about getting certification of my grades?
@@GamingFurriesOfficialYT ok, how old are you?

I’m going to the assessment centre on the 7th of June and feeling confident about everything apart from the medical because as you’ve said it’s out of our hands and I have already had to appeal my application from past history with asthma but I’ve been medically cleared of it now and it’s off my medical records. Still nervous if they find anything wrong with my respiratory system
You should be good mate, think positive 👍🏻 All you can do is turn up and do your best.
I’m going to glencourse this Tuesday for my assessment, could you tell me how it went for you mate
do not try remembering the eye chart, like we use to, those days are gone, they will now change the eye chart every time, to stop flight crews from cheating.
In my interview at my assessment centre the officer didn’t ask me any questions it was great it was just a informal chat about the army and if your excited and things like that
I am a bit worried about the medical. I'd love it if you could make a video on the appeal process.
I will have one up next week.
Here is a little bit of information to put your mind at ease hopefully.
Deferred: If you get deferred that means you have to wait a certain period of time before you can go back to selection. This process can be appealed and if you appeal is successful it can either shorten the time of your deferred or totally cancel it out meaning, you can go back to selection again.
Medical rejected: this is more serious and it basically means you cannot join the army but you can appeal this process as well and possibly get it dismissed.
I will go into more detail in the video, try not to worry about it to much 👍🏻
@@KyleSmithFIT Nice one mate. You've cleared up a lot of stuff. With the medical, I think the uncertainty around it compounds the anxiety people feel. Thanks for the reply and for the help in prepping for assessment.
@@coreymeshampritchard581 ok, there is a lot of factors that come into play with mental health, far to much for me to write but, any mental health condition gets looked at on a case by case basis... if it’s on your medical records there is a good chance you will get deferred and will be required to provide further medical evidence.
@@KyleSmithFIT On my records, a diagnosis is not listed, but it is said that I've had some traits in the past in my teenage years. Do you reckon this will bar me entry? Also, out of interest, do you know if a bruised toenail will get me a deferral?

Also check your portal ?
If you have done all of this and heard nothing i would suggest calling them. 2 years is a very long time and normally an application gets removed after one year. The only other thing i can think of is, if you are commonwealth they have stopped recruiting from there at the moment.
@@KyleSmithFIT I spoke with the recruitment team and I was told that I have to wait because they are waiting for the portal to reopen and I'll have to do over my medical and police record because it was only valid for a certain period and personally it's a bit disappointing since everything cost money.

armed forces medical have saved many people lives, even though they where rejected for service, the selection centre saved there lives, and you can always apply to the civilian contractors.remember there is 24000 civilians working for the armed forces. and i was told the other day, even civilians can stay on camp. never seen it, so have to check with your local camp and companies.
yeah that is true, not the same though is it. Very frustrating the medical process but, it is there for a reason and i can see why some of it has to be so strict. I just don't understand why people get be penalised for something that has happened when they are 12, they should atleast get a shot if they no longer suffer with medical conditions.
@@KyleSmithFIT what are the naafi clubs called now, cause i believe naafi lost the contract, that i find very hard to believe, we waited the naafi wagon to come while on exercise, for a water bottle mug of tea after 5 days in the field, with one 24 hour ration pack.

Do you know what the literacy and numeracy test are like. What sort of questions do you get asked as that’s what I’m most worried about?
do you not have your GCSEs? If you take in certificates if you have them you don't have to do that
@@hughmungus4739 it says on the army website if you don’t have A-C (9-4) in Literacy or numeracy (English & maths) then you have to take a test for them and I only I have level 1 in both literacy and numeracy which is equivalent to around a D along with my grade g in GCSEs.
Although i dont think rhey do the run anymore im getting 8:40 run time so almost to Para level time

Adrenaline you have when you are there about to do it is unreal that keeps you going and have the army mindset do not stop running at all until your body is literally about to shut down
I would try not to worry to much you still have a month left keep on pushing, check out my other videos on how to improve your 2km run.
You need to be honest with yourself, are you pushing yourself hard enough on some of these runs, can you do more runs throughout the week? I wouldn’t recommend running everyday as you will need to recover, maybe 4-5 times a week, 3 at the very least.
Running gear does help as it allows you to feel comfortable, it’s not a necessity though 😊
@@logangodson9100 yeah I had this feeling that would happen, I would probably overall have a better time when it comes to actually going there than just normally training

Yeah you can appeal this decision. Same way you would appeal any medical decision, gather evidence from your Dr/specialist/physio etc.. send it off to the address on the bottom of your deferral letter which can be found on your portal. The main thing you need to do now is think positive, sometimes people need more time than others to get to the required standard. Make sure you work hard over the next couple of months, if you want it badly you will get the job done 👍🏻

@@taslimaumi9010 thanks , appreciate the support. ❤️
Do you know if it’s the bleep test of the 2km run ? Have my assessment in two weeks time and not quite fit the 2km run because my whole application process was so swift
Do you still need to do the TST (Technical Selection Test) If you have passed GCSEs?
What happens if I fail the bleep test ? As I can run 2miles but not very good with bleep tests
You will get deferred mate and have to go back to resit it
@@KyleSmithFIT thank you so much I’m so nervous about it
@@williamduke8851 don’t be mate, it’s nothing to worry about
Good video cal
Hello brother. I'm from India. Can I join British Army?. Please share information what ever you know about Indian candidates.🙏
I believe you can join if your are an Indian citizen as it is part of the commonwealth. There is very limited spaces for commonwealth soldiers so you best of trying to apply and seeing what they reply to you with.
@@KyleSmithFIT thanks brother. What about Visa?
@@ashiniprotim8761 yes mate unfortunately you will need to ensure you are able to work in the UK with a visa
@@KyleSmithFIT can you i get your email address?.
I have my assessment centre next Wednesday and when I got my medical back before it stated
(Ihave identified in your past medical history the following health problem which would usually result in your application being rejected on medical grounds:
“Missing documentation (hospital letters /attachments) from your Health Care Records”
They stated my primary health care record does not indicate that this problem has been resolved
What with trouble recruiting Didn’t think they were that fussy
They have lowered the recruiting numbers, yes they can be very fussy.
Still treat the recruits like shit though
@@JohnSmith-dn6fk some instructors do but they are the bad ones. There is a difference between disciplining someone and being a bad teacher
Glad things have changed since the 80s,used to be in the 2 nd battalion the queens regiment but they got disbanded
Is there any special requirements to join the infantry at 16 because im wanting to join next year after i leave school
No mate. As you are 16 you will go to AFC Harrogate, spend a year there before you go to Catterick to contact the rest of your training.
I would advice applying for the army late this year/ January next year if you want a spot at Harrogate. It takes a long time to get through the application process and Harrogate fills up quickly because all people leaving school want a spot.
@@KyleSmithFIT ye thank you i turn 16 i december so should i aply before then or after?
@@robynwalker4940 yeah just get the ball rolling, you won’t be able to go to selection till your 16 but you might as well get the medical process out the way.
@@KyleSmithFIT ye will do thank you
I grew up in the military, my dad served 34 years! Did my selection in 98, Lichfield. Basic training ATR Winchester! This guy is younger then me, this weight lift shizzle never 😂 respect to the lad tho!
Do they still do the ice breaker?
Yes, but it’s more of an icebreaker on the person you sit next to. Normally they tell you speak to the person next to you on the bus and then you have to tell everyone about that person. Just a quick confidence exercise to get everyone feeling a little more comfortable, nothing to worry about mate.
@@KyleSmithFIT ohh ok yes I get you thanks man
Pls,I am an African who wish to serve in your military, I wanted to ask if I got citizenship by registry or marriage will I still be accepted to enrol for s.a.s?
