I'll repeat the previous comment -- This song was written by the late Warren Zevon. His music should never be forgotten. He was one of a kind. Gotta give him his due!
Totally agree. His version is the best. Also, "Lawyers, Guns & Money" and "Excitable Boy" are great as well as "Desperadoes Under the Eaves", "Roland, the Headless Thompson Gunner," "Ain't That Pretty at All," "Mohammed's Radio." I could go on and on. He was VERY underrated. Great stuff. Love his music.
A fun song written by the great Warren Zevon. I think you've done a few of his fun songs, but for his serious side check out Carmelita. For an all-out country song from Linda look at Silver Threads And Golden Needles.
I had her Brown album and I played it over and over again when I was in high school. ❤ How unlucky would it be to lay your head on the railroad track but the train don't come by here no more?😆🔥🎸
A few fun facts. 1. Linda's backing band became the Eagles. 2. Linda was close with a bunch of other California artists including the Eagles, Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, and Warren Zevon. 3. Linda performed backing vocals on Warren Zevon's "Excitable Boy". 4. This song is a Warren Zevon song - one of a few of his that Linda covered. 5. Warren Zevon was the greatest musical poet of the 20th century. Well, that's opinion.
Linda Ronstadt is one of greatest female vocalist ever! (She is the greatest in my book) 😊. You should listen to more of her 70’s hits. Amber you’ll love her cover of Smokey Robinson’s Ooh Baby Baby. She made it her own and it was a big hit for her. It also has a killer sax solo. Heatwave was another r&b cover she knocked out of the park. Someone to lay down beside me is a lesser known hit but she manages to tear your heart out.
Linda Ronstadt could sing anything 💖 Another great one is Linda's cover of "What's New" featuring the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. It's a song from 1939. Linda recorded 3 Great American Songbook albums with Nelson Riddle. Linda also opened on Broadway singing opera in the opera "The Pirates of Penzance" which is worth checking out just to get another chance to hear the versatility of this incredible singer. Have a Blessed and great weekend & Boomer Sooner! 😊
There's no debate about the fact that Linda Ronstadt had an amazing set of pipes. The rest of her was pretty nice too... She's still with us and thank heavens for that.
I went to Palo Verde High School in Tucson, Az. The same High School Linda graduated from, although 20 years later. She was still all they talked about. I think you can see why. She is as beautiful a person inside and out, as she is a singer.
Linda is a mega musical star of the highest order. She has blessed us with so much talent. It's too bad she can no longer sing but the legacy she has left is unmatched. Thank you, Linda!!!
In the early 70s, her band consisted of Randy Meisner, Bernie Leadon, Glen Frey and Don Henley. They went on their own and named themselves the Eagles.
If you haven't seen it "Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice," a documentary on Linda Ronstadt's life in music is available. It won Best Music Film at the Grammy Awards in 2021.
It's cool to hear that your children are actually interested in the music that you are reviewing, that made me realize that it's not just older people reminiscing about the music from our youth, you and other reactors are introducing the music to the youth of today when, normally, they might never get the chance to hear these songs 🎵 ❤.
One thing about Linda was she always had an awesome, all-star band. She had the best of the best. Some of which are Kenny Edwards, Waddy Wachtel, Andrew Gold and of course a few members who went on to form The Eagles.
Linda is a one of a kind treasure! So many legendary, beloved tracks she released. This is a great one, others include..... "Love Is A Rose", "Silver Threads and Golden Needles", "Willin", "Someone to Lay Down Beside me"(this one is a favorite of mine) just a few of many! The whole "Simple Dreams" album is a definite must! Thanks for your great reactions to all things Linda Ronstadt!
I totally agree! Linda can sing anything and make it sound incredible! When I heard her sign “Love Had No Pride” I stopped what I was doing, went to the record store and bought that album. Been a fan for 50 years.
Awesome picks today! It actually made my WEEK, nevermind day! Two of my ALL time favorite female artists! I saw the first post, i was like "No way!". When I saw the second, I was "OK, Emmylou AND Linda, not to mention on the same day?!" Once I regained consciousness, I hit play.
Linda starred in a movie musical "The Pirates of Penzance" (1983) it's a Comic Opera, a parody of traditional opera and it's hilarious and you should definitely watch it. 😁
The song was written by Warren Zevon, who you haven't done in while. There are some great songs to play : Excitable Boy, Frank and Jesse James, Looking for the Next Best Thing, Jeannie Needs a Shooter, Sentimental Hygiene, Boom Boom Mancini or Keep Me in Your Heart written when he knew he was dying of cancer. There is also Springsteen's live version of Zevon's 'My Ride's Here' performed a couple of days after Warren passed away.
Linda was the biggest selling female vocalist of the 1970's (source: Cashbox). She had 6 straight platinum or multi platinum albums between 1974 and 1979...Heart Like a Wheel, Prisoner in Disguise, Hasten Down the Wind, Simple Dreams, Living in the USA, and a greatest hits album......and kicked off an incredible 80's run with the platinum Mad Love. Linda's first certified album was Don't Cry Now in 1973, which went gold.
Brings some tears. My mom listened to this so I had to also!! ❤️ Lots of old country music. When Olivia Newton John was country. George Jones, Gerry Reed, Dolly, Hank. I miss her.
I saw Linda in concert in the late 70’s and she was adorable and her voice gives me goosebumps. I found the ticket stub the price was $7.50! Love all of her music! I’ve been listening to her for decades kids 👵🏼💙✌🏼
Linda Ronstadt can sing a phone book. Everything she sings sounds great. I was fortunate to see Linda Ronstadt in concert 3 times. Rock , Mexican, and Standards with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra . Boy, when she sang the standards and reached those high, notes my ears vibrated. She has a powerful voice . I also saw her when she went on tour to talk about her book she wrote. I would love for you to react to her with Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Wait till you here her sing those songs, especially the song "Whats New."
Linda is definitely in a class all her own ❤ check out her standard crooner period from the 80’s with premier band leader / arranger Nelson Riddle who worked with other superstars Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, Rosemary Clooney, Johnny Mathis, Ella Fitzgerald
You should check out her Great American Songbook recordings with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra...What's New....My Funny Valentine...Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry...so many across three albums!
You still haven't heard her croon. She recorded 3 albums with Frank Sinatra's arranger, Nelson Riddle and they are a must listen. Some suggestions: "What's New", "Someone To Watch Over Me" or "When You Wish Upon A Star"
I love it when you do Linda! She's my all-time favorite singer, period. Have you heard her songs from the Pirates of Penzance play/movie? It's very different yet again, and incredible. Check out her amazing performance of "Poor Wandering One" from Pirates of Penzance. I say that, even though it's not exactly the kind of music I would have in my playlist. (I sort of prefer rock 'n' roll Linda). How can one do that with her voice? It's amazing, like "La Charreada" is amazing.
You should watch the documentary on her "The Sound of my Voice" from a couple years back - I believe it is a CNN production threw MAX/HBO. Hits her entire life, old clips & interviews, and it is wonderful
Linda had a long streak of successful albums from the early 70's to early 80's. Many of her hits were covers of classics that she made definitive, but she also showcased songs by the best songwriters of the era that she respected like Warren Zevon, Elvis Costello, Lowell George, Karla Bonoff and others. Much of her output at this time was in a Country-ish Rock vein but not limited to that. That all changed in 1983 when she started recording songs from The Great American Song Book, songs from the 1930's and 40's backed by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. She absolutely nailed it. The Spanish stuff came next. She did some Adult Contemporary stuff later with Aaron Neville and James Ingram. She did some country again with Dolly and Emmylou. Check out her cover of Chuck Berry's "Back in the USA".
She's super diverse, but you don't know the half of it. Check out Linda on Broadway, doing Pirates of Penzance (Light Opera) or any of her three Great American Songbook albums with super-arranger Nelson Riddle, which have a strong jazz flavor. You think that being the best at folk, country, rock and Mexican traditional music is amazing? It is, but there's more!
The wry humor of the song is because it was written and first recorded by Warren Zevon. Linda rewrote the last verse because she couldn't sing the original lyrics which dealt with a woman who was into bdsm. I have to say, as much as I enjoy and admire Warren, I prefer Linda's version both lyrically and musically. The best and most profound life advice I ever heard came from Warren's last appearance with David Letterman. He knew he was dying and didn't have much time left. Dave asked him something like if he had gained any insight from the situation. Warren replied, "Enjoy every sandwich." Of course what he was saying was to live in the moment and to enjoy life's simple pleasures. It was the most poignant and intimate thing I ever witnessed.
Linda Ronstadt is the greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation. Also, the biggest selling female vocalist of the 1970's...Source: Cashbox
Great choice! Jay and Amber, if you really want to see the extremes of Linda Ronstadt’s versatility, check out two songs: Someone To Lay Down Beside Me and How Do I Make You!
Fantastic Linda Ronstadt Classic with her Instantly identifiable Voice! Great Choice & Reaction, You Guys! Have a Great Weekend! :) PS- Re: Linda praise... Back at You Amber! :)
You two are so right about Linda. She was so versatile in her choice of genres but her voice transcends and takes on every one with so much clarity and heart. Try out her interpretation of the Patsy Cline classic "Crazy", it is so emotional.
For another taste of her country rock skills, check out Linda Ronstadt's cover of the Jackson Browne classic, "Rock Me on the Water", with Glenn Frey on guitar and Don Henley on drums. Good stuff!
I had to smile at your story about picking up your daughter and her and her friends were talking about Gordon Lightfoot. You guys are doing it right. CONGRATS
Linda even did Opera for a time and I remember seeing her in an interview at this time in her life that she said that doing Opera is the hardest singing she has ever done. She even said doing Country or Rock is easy to sing but Opera is very hard to do.
This song is so fun! It's one of my favorites. It's risque without being vulgar with it's tongue lines like, "He really worked me over good...he was a credit to his gender...sorta like a wearin blender!" You know Linda did opera in the musical, "The Pirates of Penzance". One of my favorite songs of hers is "Silver Threads and Golden Needles". Another favorite of mine is her cover of the 60's mega hit, "Walk Away Renee". It is lesser known, but such a beauty!
I'll repeat the previous comment -- This song was written by the late Warren Zevon. His music should never be forgotten. He was one of a kind. Gotta give him his due!
Yes, I prefer Warren Zevon's version, but Linda really did a great job with it.
@@robertnelson1249 I agree.
@@robertnelson1249 Yeah both versions are great but Linda's version lacks the teeth and satire that Zevon's had.
@@rosek2967 My 2 favorite Zevon songs are French Inhaler and Splendid Isolation.
That pic of linda with the flower in her hair was a poster every young boy had on his wall back in the day.
I've still got the large poster with Linda lacing up her roller-skates! Yum!
1974, I fell hopelessly in love with Linda, I was 13 at the time.
@@mikemaricle9941👍 LoL Me, too, Buddy! But, I was 22!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Agree - until I saw the Bahamas women poster - then Linda was history. LoL
A fun song written by the great Warren Zevon. I think you've done a few of his fun songs, but for his serious side check out Carmelita. For an all-out country song from Linda look at Silver Threads And Golden Needles.
Carmelita is amazing 💗
Yeah but that song cannot mend a heart like mine.
I love silver threads and golden needles 🪡. Can not mend this heart of mine.
I had her Brown album and I played it over and over again when I was in high school. ❤
How unlucky would it be to lay your head on the railroad track but the train don't come by here no more?😆🔥🎸
Carmelita, esp his duet version with Jackson Brown!
Now you need to hear her cover of the Stones “Tumbling Dice”!
The best. Amazing!
That is fantastic!
Linda out rocks the Stones on TD
Tracks Of My Tears
Yes this.
" JUST ONE LOOK " By LINDA RONSTADT 70s Next on your list
They’ve done it
It would be great if they did the original 60's version by Doris Troy.
This is a great version of the Warren Zevon song. I'm sure Warren appreciated the royalties 😁🤘🏻
Shout out to the great Warren Zevon for writing this and so many other awesome songs.
The fact that you guys love and respect Linda so much, means a lot to me. One of the best ever.
Gotta hear her song Love Is A Rose 🌹
written by Neil Young
Her voice was amazing! She killed it in the 70/80's
60's 70's and 80's
One of her very best! Next, I suggest "That'll Be the Day," "(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave," or " Someone to Lay Down Beside Me."
You must listen to Linda’s version of “Willin”, originally by Little Feat.
It is absolute perfection!
YES!!!
Mohammed's Radio
Roll um Easy might be my favorite Linda cover of a Little Feat song
A few fun facts.
1. Linda's backing band became the Eagles.

Nothing but from Miss R.
There Was a period in the 70''s where Linda was the biggest crush for all males in the USA

I remember when Terry Clark put out her cover of this song❕❗
