Fabulous redo of a Buddy Holly classic. I'm an 82-year-old guy who deeply misses both Linda and Buddy. Hard to believe that Glenn Frye and Don Henley were lowly backup singers to Miss Linda before going on to form the Eagles.
Linda Ronstadt is a great role model for us all. You never know how long you will have the gifts you get, so do as much with them as you can when you have them. You won't regret it later. And certainly, Linda left a lot behind and we are all grateful for it.
On August 18, 1983, the role model chose to perform in a reviled racist country. She gave six concerts in the cradle of apartheid. Her price: $500,000. Ronstadt’s Sun City, South Africa tour landed her in the first edition of the United Nations’ “Register of Entertainers, Actors And Others Who Have Performed in Apartheid South Africa.”
Linda Ronstadt takes the cake with the most (thirteen total) Hot 100 hits (almost all in the Top 40) that were all cover tunes: “Blue Bayou”, “Heat Wave”, “Hurt So Bad”, “I Can’t Let Go”, “It's So Easy”, “Just One Look”, “Ooh Baby Baby”, “Poor Poor Pitiful Me”, “That'll Be The Day”, “Tracks Of My Tears”, “Tumbling Dice”, “When Will I Be Loved” and “You're No Good”.
Waddy Wachtel is the guy with the long hair playing guitar and singing harmony...he has performed onstage for a lot of artists. The guy with red hair and singing along is Pete Asher, her producer. He also was the Peter in the duo, Peter and Gordon, who had a string of hits during the British Invasion. His sister is Jane Asher, one-time fiancé to Paul McCartney. Linda Ronstadt was my first concert back in December 1978 and she was an absolute doll. Love her music and her voice.
One of the great things about Linda is that she is one of the best cover artists of all time. This is a cover of a Buddy Holly song. She’s also covered Chuck Berry, Motown, Roy Orbison, and others. She’s done it so convincingly that people think they are her songs.
Linda Ronstadt is one of the greatest female artists of all time. Check out her two best songs, in my humble opinion. “Different Drum” and “Long Long Time”
The backing vocalist in the eyeglasses is Peter Asher, one half of the 1960s British Invasion duo Peter and Gordon and the visual template for the Austin Powers character. He is the older brother of British actress Jane Asher, who dated Paul McCartney for several years during the 1960s.
Waddy Wachtel playing guitar with her. Albeit he has had his own troubles in 1988. Linda helped me get through college. What a voice. What a woman. What a singer! No other.
Like so many that saw here live. I can report that Linda’s voice was so powerful and clear, she could easily throw it to the back of almost any venue. Of all her many qualities, my favorite is still knowing she was NEVER a lazy singer live. Always a pro and yes, always crush worthy….. 😉✨
Linda is one of my all time favourites, along with Ann Wilson. Thanks for a great reaction and for more rocking Linda check out the live version of "Tumbling Dice". Linda singing from The Great American Songbook: three albums with arrangements by Nelson Riddle with songs such as What’ll I Do, What’s New, and Wish Upon A Star and that’s just the letter W
This was a 1977 smash from her legendary Simple Dreams album. This is a song that I crank the volume up on every time. The studio version is amazing! Another hit from this album was “Poor, poor pitiful me:” There were also a great number of Stone Poneys songs. Checkout “Hobo” which was a very well done version of the Tim Buckley original. ‘Some of Shelley’s Blues” which was written by Mike Nesmith” from the Monkees who also wrote “Different Drum.” The harmonies on “Driftin’ along with the cellos can bring one to tears.
Ya'll say you love Linda Ronstadt but ya'll have never checked out her three early 80's albums that were her ode's to crooner traditional pop from the 40's & 50's with bandleader/arranger Nelson Riddle(Sinatra's bandleader/arranger in the 50's & 60's)...the albums are 1. The song is "Easy for You to Say" Jimmy Webb wrote the song and is an amazing songwriter. It is a wonderful song by her that Amber will enjoy.
