    Funny. Higher end sim gear becoming more affordable and yet, the graphics card I need to run these sims at high end graphics have become more expensive than entire PC's.

    • @benvella1728
      @benvella1728 3 роки тому +9

      You can probably get away with much cheaper options and turn one or two settings down lower or off. The biggest bulk of graphics rendering are easily punched out by most low to mid range grahpic cards nowadays, and have been for a long time. It's those little things to "max out" that really cost. As always, the rule of diminishing returns applies.

      @@benvella1728 I'm working with a 1660 ti on a laptop so I'm REALLY looking to upgrade asap. It's not a bad machine, it's just not what I want right now. Noise, temps, thermal throttling, games looking better on console, etc. It's to the point where I'm thinking about just moving over to console. One thing: My CSL Elite PS4 base is silent (other than fan whirr) and the FFB is smooth and very, very good. If your CSL is as described in this video, then it is because FEI (and possibly FOR) is turned up too high. The CSL Elite is very sensitive to FEI and too high a setting causes rattling and knocking, both audibly and through the FFB.

    I don’t understand why you were comparing it to the full on DD wheels, 1/3rd in the video you kept showing off about your ultimate. Should have compared it to the entry wheelbases where it belongs and how it compares to those.

      If someone is on the market for a wheel in this price range, the choice is simple. I do have a TS-PC and upgrading is another question. Is the question.
      I believe it's not worth it.
      Fanatec wheels are very expensive - this product is out of place, out of time. Smells funny...

    • @ccramit
      @ccramit 3 роки тому

      It's a no brainer that this is better than any wheelbase at its price range. Comparing it to other DD wheelbases is a better comparison as literally nothing else compares.
      If you are still using a controller, this is the only choice. If you are using a CSL Elite or equivalent or below, your only upgrade would be a DD. No point in buying a belt driven system when a DD is only $50 more. So the only question is if this is enough, and how it compares to stronger DD's.

      @@jopereirapt Out of place? a Fanatec DD Wheel priced at 349+/- EUROS or a Thrustmaster TS-XW Servo base for 369 EUROS? How in the hell would go for a TS when there's a DD wheel for LESS MONEY!

    • @jopereirapt
      @jopereirapt 3 роки тому

      @@itzanopinion That's what I meant.
      Fanatec DD is the only option for those with a entry level wheel, let's say a G29.
      For those like me, with a TS-PC wheel, is not worthwhile upgrading.
      The true is Fanatec is taking advantage of the market, with huge scarcity of IC and materials, to bring as many people as they can into their ecosystem. The supply will be short, expect many months without the wheel you just bought.
      UA-camrs and influencers do their share praising the advantages of DD systems which I believe are placebos in most cases. They are superior, no doubt, but a nice to have, not a must have. And then, only a 12-15Nm will provoque me to upgrade, not the same 5Nm I already have. (a TM TS-PC is still a cheaper option considering base+wheel with the same features/buttons)

    Woohoo I'm getting a CSL DD 🥳 - I was also quite skeptical before this video. G29 currently; only had it for less than a year and the potentiometers in the pedals have been degrading for months already. I'm 45 (and battle worn) and even a G29 can injure my wrists and arms a bit if I overdo things anyway (partly because the wheel is overly small) - 8NM will be fine for me.

    Really wish this product was compared more directly to CSL Elite, Clubsport 2.5 and Thrustmaster wheel bases in this general price point area. They seem to be focusing on direct drive comparisons, but you're talking about a product that is 2x to 3x more than the price point for the CSL DD.

    Very detailed review for an initial look, really great job guys. Thanks.
    I would say that with extra dynamic range/maximum torque output some people don't need it to be competitive. However for other people it doesn't just add extra immersion but does improve laptimes and/or consistency. Some people need their sim to feel somewhat like real life which is not possible with lower torque wheels. Whether because they have real life driving/racing experience and can't adapt to the different feel of low force or some other reason I'm unsure.

    Great rundown, though for me, I've recently invested £680 on GT Omega Prime rig, £300 on V3 pedals, £200 on BMW GT2 Wheel, £220 on Shifter, £140 on handbrake and £1000 on Podium F1 Wheelbase (sold the F1 wheel as I only play Rally). That amounts to £1540 without the wheelbase, £2540 with. If you have these other fanatec bits and a proper cockpit to withstand strong forces, you're only going to save £400 ish by buying the CSL DD over the podium F1/DD1. What's £400 when you're spending over 2k? Yes you could reduce this by a further £100-150 with the cheaper CSL pedals, but is it really worth it? Not for me, but I guess it could be for others! Or maybe I'm missing something..
