Minor correction - they don't require 3 components. As someone who uses a wheelchair, I use my formula v2 wheel with podium shift module and the clutch levers mapped to throttle and brake, so I don't need pedals. The included clutch levers on the mclaren wheel can be used for the same purpose. For the majority of people pedals are required, but just something to note as a great option for those of us with limited mobility :)

I went from a G29 to T300. Basically I went to T300 so I can have wheel options but it is also a wheel with better force feedback and less noisy.
This probably makes more sense as an upgrade now than going for any other CSL fanatec option.
A CSL elite probably won't be a huge upgrade to the T300, probably a small upgrade, while this is getting into the direct drive territory.

I don't know if I would call the upgrade mind blowing, let's not oversell this to potential CSL Elite owners because the difference really isn't earth shattering. Peak torque is for sure greater, that I admit. But holding torque isn't that drastically different, and right now the CSL DD is incredibely buggy. Many steering wheels are incompatible still, and there are electromagnetic interference issues with the wheelbase that I highly doubt will be fixed via firmware upgrades as they are physical hardware issues. If you have an H-Pattern shifter, it's basically unusable due to EMI....

2:46 genuinely had me creasing lol. Informative and soooo helpful as always. I have a CSL elite and have done for almost 3 years. I’ve really enjoyed it on the whole however the more I enjoy sim racing, naturally the more I want to upgrade so this review is really helpful. I put an order in last week so should see it come November time.
I suspect a bit like others reported with the DD1, that in time games will become better tuned to the wheel base and vice versa with firmware updates that it’ll only get even better so it’s definitely an investment!

Great video mate, this is what we need a video from someone that doesn't have a dd1 or dd2 and of course this is a slight downgrade, for us Logitech or csl elite owners we need to hear from people that are in the same boat with the wheels they have. I hope to grab one of these soon and appreciate your great review. Keep up the good work mate.

8:04 while the logitech pedals and shifter don't work out of the box without the Logitech base, you can definitely buy adapters which make them compatible, I think this is important to bring up as you can absolutely enjoy the CSL DD and only have to buy a wheel and some adapters rather than spending more hundreds on new pedals and the same again on a new shifter. Personally I recommend the leo bodnar pedal adapter and the same for the shifter adapter, I think they're £25 ish per. The leo bodnar pedal adapter has added benefits of making the pedal travel linear and adjustable using their software.

      @MegaIronica 3 роки тому +3

Nice to know but still. That's already 50£ and the CSL pedals are like 80 US$. Also considering you can sell your complete logitech rig for around 100-150 you might be covered for the whole pedals + shifter package.

@@MegaIronica Okay, let's say I sell all my logitech stuff, wheel, shifter, pedals. The most I will get for them at the moment is £250, that's pushing it even.
I want a shifter now, that's at least £100 if I get one of the SHH shifters (plus import fees & taxes, so let's call it £120). Now I buy the new fanatec pedals including a clutch, that's £102, plus £20 shipping, plus the £11.50 fee UPS charges, so now we're at £253. Way over what I think I could get for my entire old setup, and *vastly* outside your estimate of $100 - $150.
So no, I think if upgrading to the CSL DD from logitech, get leo bodnar adapters for the £45 it's going to cost you, and you can sell them *for almost no loss* when you're finally ready to properly upgrade.

The force feedback in acc was definitely designed mainly for a dd wheel. I have a thrustmaster ts-pc (compared to fanatec, i have heard it's between the csl elite, and csw 2.5, in terms of force feedback) the ffb in acc feels ok on my wheel, but not as good as some other sims in all honesty. But with a dd, i've heard many people said that acc has one of the best, if not the best ffb system.

      @Jpilgrim30 3 роки тому +3

Yeah I have an accuforce v2 and have never understood some of the complaints about ACC force feedback. I can feel every detail down to the slight rumble of the engine. It puts a smile on my face every time I flip the ignition switch and push the start button on my button box. 😂 on a sim lab cockpit that engine rumble can be felt through the whole chassis and it’s insanely immersive. I’ve even put off getting a bass transducer setup because it’s almost like having one now.

    • @MRD0889
      @MRD0889 Рік тому +1

@dannyleeracing okay.. let me start off with the main two bads of this experience.
The template on their website is not correct. It's off, and I had to make my own template. The second bad thing is the no including of the M6 screws.. I had to grind two of them down because the DD isn't machined equally, so the outside screws that I had were longer and could have dented the case/body.
Other than that.. let me just say.. Whatever UA-camr says that a direct drive won't make you faster... yea that's a lie.. just in the DD alone, I'm able to be accurate on turning beautifully on a corner.. ATM I have it on 3 NM, and I didn't get myself the boost kit.
I'll bring it to 5nm next week. I want to see how much of a difference increasing the FFB will show by next week.
This tech is nasty, my guy. It's definitely a must-have if you want to sim race or just sit back and run laps by yourself .
Waiting on my shifter, I didn't go with Fanatec because I wanted to set myself a budget and not blow it all in one sale, lol
I like to upgrade as I go, and it keeps me more attached to the Hobbie.
Oh!! And as for the load cell brake..
Messed with the force in their app and got it to where I felt I could manipulate and memorize the brake pressure.
100% did it for me, I'm super confident in low pump of the brakes now and keep the cars inertia as smooth as possible
It's definitely a huge game changer, lol

Great video, though I'd say: the CSL DD is probably only worth considering if you're already part of the Fanatec Ecosystem and dont have to also buy pedals, wheel, etc. If you're not using compatible Fanatec gear already, it's a full replacement and at minimum 3x more expensive, compared to Logitech. It's definitely NOT entry level gear, no matter how good it is.
1100-1400euro Fanatec setup (base+wheel, pedals, desk-clamp) vs 250-300euro Logitech setup, is out of many people's budget range... especially considering that once you go this route, you'll be more likely to spent a lot more money for a rig/gear. Not something most single-screen, ikea-chair, shakey desk users would do.
I'm sure if given the chance, I'd praise it as well, as I do love racing as well, but I dont think this level of gear is worth comparing. One is good build-quality casual driving gear, the other is entry level sim-racing gear. This is like comparing a jet-fighter versus a crop-duster. They both fly and do the job they're designed for, but they're not in the same league.

I reckon the DD would be like going to 4k, which like you say, isn't mind blowing. I kept my G25 pedals and added a Leo Bodnar cable to use them independently. My CSL DD 8Nm arrived today, I already had VR and rumble feedback. I was using the G29. I played previously on a friend's CSL Elite - I'd say that was more than twice the experience of the G29, I expected the CSL DD to just be better yet. But the CSL DD feels like a whole different thing, the jump is lightyears ahead of my Logitech. I could see a time where I want 25% more force, but only for immersion - it feels like all the detail & force required is there to feel the full effect of the simulation and it's blowing my mind. Even before I tuned in some settings I was a very happy customer.

People that are getting the absolute best transition are those that were already in the Fanatec Eco system with a Csl Elite or other belt drive unit and can move up to the crisper fidelity of the Csl DD for just the cost of the wheelbase at under $500 as they already own the pedals and have wheels which are compatible.
Those still shopping for actual entry level gear at those entry level price points will not spend what it cost for the Csl DD just like they did not spend the entry cost for the original CSL Elite.
Those on a tight budget looking to upgrade from the Logitech/ TM 150 class of gear should be able to find some decent prices on used belt driven Csl and Csw wheelbases over the next year or so which will still be a solid upgrade . Still will need to buy the wheel and pedals though.
I did the the Logitech to Csl Elite to the 8nm Csl DD path myself and yes I can feel a lot of difference and feel the upgrade was worthwhile. I do mostly play ACC.
I had also upgraded from the original Csl loadcell pedals to the v3"s a year or so ago as well.
Personally I am going to keep my original Csl stuff stored away as a back up unit rather than sell it.
I always like having a back up option available but in todays times with some of the lead times till products come back in stock and available having a backup seems more like a good idea than ever before.
Also at this time I have no plans to buy a Playstation 5 and have unhooked and stored my PS4 away but my Csl Elite is PS compatible where my new DD is not if I were to change my mind down the road.
I had stored my old Logitech away in its original box as a backup but now I will probably give someone just starting out a decent deal on the the G29 and a GT Omega wheel stand that is doing nothing but collecting dust.
I feel that the DD is a good upgrade and for the average sim racer that plans to stick with sim racing the Fanatec line of gear and ecosystem is a good value and of a quality that should satisfy most casual racers.
Not everyone wants to invest top tier money for the highest end stuff available to play a racing game on their PC but does want decent gear at an affordable price point. Fanatec can meet the criteria!
Honestly starting from scratch this is not inexpensive gear with a 5nm dd wb at $350, wheel at $199 and cheapest non load cell pedals at another $80 you are looking at $630 plus tax and shipping and with the 8nm unit around $760 plus tax and shipping.
Not to mention that most people that go to this level of wheelbase will want to add on a loadcell brake option which right now is only available with the V3 pedal option. It will be coming out for the new CSL pedals but no one knows when or its actual cost yet.
Good informative video that touches on all the important aspects of doing the upgrade or those considering buying a Csl DD.

Definately a huge improvement for those who come from Logitech/Thrustmaster wheel bases, also a noticeable improvement for CSL Elite users but a very small change for CSW 2.5 users.., its not worth to sell this base for half of its price having to add extra 250-300€ in order to get the CSL DD 8Nm bundle...

Coming from the Clubsport base here and also running the CSL DD. Over on the fanatec reddit someone explained it quite well. The Clubsport has more holding torque and feels more like power steering, but it is a bit slower. The CSL DD has slighty less strenght, but it is far, far more direct then the clubsport, but with casual driving this is really not that noticable. Now that i've put some hours in to the CSL DD i've kept slides i would never have dreamt of holding, even in iracing.

I've gone from a G920 to a CSL Elite just shy of a year ago. For the first 6-7 months, it was constant hell with wheelbase, wheel rim and pedal set glitches and game breaking firmware bugs, to the point where I had to reinstall the firmware package and drivers twice. Now that I got the bad stuff out of the way, I have to say everything else is far, far better. The Clubsport V3 pedals are a major improvement in every way. I've found myself becoming much more consistent and even improving my one lap pace with these pedals, the loadcell brakes are amazing. Also, you can say goodbye to pedal flickering, which is something that plagued my old pedals to the point where they were unusable. The wheelbase is leagues ahead with it force feedback, with the G920 you could barely feel any detail beyond a very weak simulation of holding cornering forces, but you can feel so much more with the CSL Elite.

I love myself to make this step about a week ago. So much different. But I am also grateful for my previous 10+ years as a logitech user. I learnt a lot with that as well. I think fanatec is just too much for starting with. it can easily happen that at the end you think simracing is not for you and then you just throw away hundreds of dollars, while if you just keep it low cost to slowly learn what does this hobby mean and how much it would cost to get what you really need you can save a lot.
Also, its worth mentioning that logitech is more than you think. I know by experience that you can get much more from a logitech wheel or pedal if you have patience and time. But a regular user wants out of the box solutions and uses logitech as it comes.

I was able to set a record and win a trophy against hundreds of other people, I even bet the owner of that simulator company lol. It just felt so good, I could feel the tyres and the grip and feeling the car let go was so easy to recognize and save. The g29 is just the feeling of the motors and cogs and the car is already sideways before I can feel it.
So I guess Logitech you have to learn to use your eyes to keep the car in check as opposed to fanatecs where you can pretty much focus on the racing line and use the feedback in your arms to keep the car in check. G29 isn't a 'bad' wheel. Its a cost effective way for most people to get into wheel sim racing. But fanatecs are just next level

The CSW 2.5 was a fine old thing, according to folks' views the CSL DD 8nm won't be a great deal different to the CSW 2.5 so if you want an undisputed upgrade you're looking at a full fat DD, but then again your old CSW will sell to make the CSL DD a fair 'sidegrade' for not much money when the old base is sold

@Danny Lee This is an interesting video. I wish there was more insight behind the choice between the CSW 2.5 and the CSD DD w/ boost kit. Both are 8nm, so how big of a difference is there really? I understand what DD can offer, but my point is the performance gap large enough to go from a CSW 2.5 to a CSL DD. My initial thought it probably not. I suspect the better upgrade for CSW 2.5 customers would be a more powerful DD1 or comparable DD.

When I got my shipping email I then purchased the 8nm power pack to make sure I got them both as I wanted to try the lower one to see what it’s like. My first impressions was how smooth it was, you literally cannot put it into words. But strait away I noticed the lack of power. I had to jack up the strength settings in iracing for it to feel decent compared to the csl elite. To me it felt like 3/4 of the power of the elite at best. When I installed the 8nm power unit the csl dd came to life. It felt like the power had been doubled. Going from a elite to a 5nm dd is a sideways upgrade at best. All your gaining is the lack of teeth feeling and no free play in the center of the wheel while trading force feed back strength. But I would say that the 8nm csl dd feels like twice the wheel as the elite for just $150 more.

Thanks for taking the time to comment with this, that's really valuable feedback to those who see it - as I ordered it with the boost kit I didn't get the standard power supply to compare as I'd have been interested to see!

I just finished setting up my DD CSL this afternoon. I came from a Thrustmaster T300 RS and the DD CSL is a night and day difference to the good. One thing, don't bother with the 5nm base power supply. Do like Danny Lee and get the 8nm Booster upgrade.

Considering the 5nm version comes with 2 years of warranty by default, while the 8nm only comes with 1 year of warranty, really makes me question the longevity of these products.

the price doesn't include tax and shipping... (correction, no VAT is included ) so its a rather huge step up up in price from a logitech G27 seeing that i have to purchase pedals aswell. and when you opened that "can or worms" it seems almost kind of wrong not to get a pair of heusinkveld...

480 Euro is including tax. In the EU, tax is included in the price.
I didn’t check what shipping costs in the EU, but in the US it was $12… Total was $520.
Logitechs are $300-$400, so no $500 isn’t a big step in price. Plus there’s nothing stopping you from using your Logitech pedals.
Additionally, if I paid myself minimum wage for every hour i spent dealing with GHUB bullshit my Logitech products cost well over $1000 lol

@@TheOfficialOriginalChad hmmm just checked now, it it does indeed say including tax so thanks for correcting me on that one!, last i checked i could have been sure it said excluding tax...
now i just need a 200-300€ stearing wheel and ill be all set ;)
      Joking aside, i'm extremely tempted...

I think data transfer should get wireless to lower setup time on non permanent wheel setups. Power would remain the only cable to run. Why do i still have to connect the non powered pedals with a proprietary connection?

I only started sim racing 7 months ago, I’ve been on the Logitech G29 for those 7 months, the wheel definitely has a gear ⚙️ feel about it, but the force feedback is good for the price, however the pedals are relatively cheap, I just got a Playseat Challenge yesterday for a cockpit, and my CSL pedals with the loadcell kit arrive later today, but this DD is definitely on my radar for the future
