They usually were shelling with mortars or literally aiming rpg's to the sky and hoping they landed somewhere near a base
If they set up big guns we would launch so quickly on them with gun ships
Towards the end of the war they got a little more brazen with Soviet artillery self propelled artillery even tanks
They even attacked a radar installation with ww1 era bi planes in which helicopters got in dog fights with which is an amazing story I suggest you check out

I did this with my Battery Commander in Afghanistan after a artillery attack. What suck was we walked into a mine field. Some Special Forces came by and helped us back track out of there. We just laughed it off and set up new Priority target based on the information we gathered. The MOS is 13B Canon crew member, aka Gun bunny, Red legs,Canon Cocker. (SSG Retired 1994-2014)

      @lordcutlerbeckett4379 3 роки тому +5

The shrapnel will have a higher chance of killing you if you stood up and exposed your whole body. But laying down the idea is to have your legs absorb it thus technically saving you. But it’s a 152mm shell has enough explosives in it it wouldn’t matter if you were on the ground or running you’re a dead man. Also GL clearing 100ft+ in a few seconds.

    • @denis3208

@@lordcutlerbeckett4379 That might be so with hand grenades and I've even heard a story about a mortar round falling right in front of soldier and him surviving, but 152/155 mm shells contain 48 kg of explosive filling, that would turn you into atoms. Is legs absorbing the shock the reason we had to run out backs towards the nuclear explosion and raise heels ?

I think the others haven't really answered your question. The fuze used on those is a rgm2. It's point detonated and inertially armed. Once it fires the fuze becomes active. Once it contacts the ground the firing pin in the fuze hits the primer and boom.
I think(my opinion, it could be wrong) he didn't want to move because it was on his foot it dropping off of him could have caused it to go off.
Edit: the other guy said it didn't have the fuze, but I think you were talking about why he would stay on the ground before he knew there was no fuse in it.

By the crater size, you can only determine the type of ordnance used or at least have an idea. To figure trajectory, radar would need to come into play and those most likely, be located at a FOB. The person doing the crater annalists would be the platoon sgt at the very least or anyone who would be "certified" at crater annalists and that could be anyone in any MOS.

    • @Backyardmech1

I was thinking the same thing. Since explosions in my ill trained mind would be a somewhat hemispherical, the crater would be the same shape. Determining the amount of probable ordnance, to probable weapon used with past data to figure it out. To me going into no mans land to measure artillery craters just seems a bad idea as well. The other side had spotters calling in artillery, what’s to say they still aren’t there? Just no.

Luckily they were not accurate and our Q36/37 radars would track incoming rounds while the MLRS units behind us would counterbattery fire their rockets back on the Iraqi positions. The decline in church membership mostly reflects the fact that fewer Americans than in the past now have any religious affiliation." In Germany it dropped from 70% to roughly 52% aswell. I generally respect people believing in supernatural phenomena but I draw the line at defending violence against innocent people.
If millions of people are wrong, why not convert them instead of initiating a genocide? Shouldn't your god be able to do that if he was able to create an entire universe with at least one planet that is habited by almost 10 million different species? Why did he need almost 2000 years for this when he could've get it done during the times of ancient rome? Why punishing their descendants instead of the people who supposedly received and disobeyed those commandments?
You certainly should reevaluate your thoughts.

I wish it was that easy to just up and leave an area that is being hit by sustained accurate artillery barrages. You supposed to maintain a low profile with your head down to keep as much of your body close to the ground as you can from fragmentations and shrapnel.

cuz if your start running the shrapnels and shells will certainly kill you far more easily. Note that what kills most is not the explosion itself, but the other flying shells or pieces of rocks and stuff that travel with the same speed of a bullet. That's why soldiers wear helmets and they try to stay low or be in a foxhole or a trench.

I don't judge people on there idols and music choice. However, the fact you lack the understanding that people are equal regardless of nationality. Keep donating to your church, god is expensive.
