Amazing to think he's still alive because of a split-second error. One second and he got 40-50 extra years. So many didn't get that second.
This goes deep....
Saint barb was with this dude that day. Glad you made it home brother.
Amazing if he had not been in that war at all. But well, the same story as in the European countries, their own borders are defended everywhere in the world but not in their own country. But it is not his fault... lucky boy
Some of us are lucky that we’ve been able to grow old. So many others weren’t
can you imagine: under heavy shelling....explosions everywhere.....you died getting crushed by a round with no fuse, as if it were a cannon ball.
you did not get crushed, if it hit you or near you, you were just a red mist, had a gunny near the DMZ, while we were under fire from across the DMZ, he stood up from his trench to look around, a shell hit right in from of him and the upper half of his body just disappear, cut in half!! he should of know better being an older marine, not a new guy!
@@rodrigjose something something like splash and squishy? Is his half upper body flying away or just turn into some splash and squishy meat? Real shit?
No.
@@spockspock oh. .....have you tried? .....maybe try again.
@@evilpandakillabzonattkoccu4879 not within my capacity and I am ok with that, thanks.
Maybe the nva was just really confident to get a direct hit.
They usually were shelling with mortars or literally aiming rpg's to the sky and hoping they landed somewhere near a base
If they set up big guns we would launch so quickly on them with gun ships
Towards the end of the war they got a little more brazen with Soviet artillery self propelled artillery even tanks
They even attacked a radar installation with ww1 era bi planes in which helicopters got in dog fights with which is an amazing story I suggest you check out
@@BOB-wx3fq ROE was a problem when the attacks come from neighboring countries
Got confused because nva means eastern german army in german 🙄
hahahahahaaahaha u got it right
How the hell do you remember your username?
"Directly under artillery fire and out of a hundred shells the one with no fuse lands right at your feet! And You Walk it OFF!"
Now that's what you call
Ah, I see your one of Sharpe's men!
That's a baller move like a boss right there.
That's what you call a blessing!
Reminds me of my dad's story from Viet Nam. He tripped and landed on a mine and it didn't go off because whatever triggered the explosion was clogged full of dirt.
Wow, that was so lucky and so happy that your dad survived that nasty war.
While cleaning up after an artillery attack, I was amazed at the amount of bodies without any sign of injury - all killed by the blast of shell shock waves.
War is hell
Lmao. That's the stupidest shit I've ever heard.
Lots of stories like that from Khe Sanh. 4 Marines were playing cards in their dugout during NVA shelling when a round came sailing right through their OHP and went through their card table and into the dirt without exploding, leaving a perfectly round hole.
holy shit! couple of lucky bastards!
The dude firing the artillery: Hmmmm.. am I forgetting something?? Oh what's this fuse doing on the ground?
"I didnt grab no shoes or nuttin jesus"
Ain't nobody got time fo dat!
pick it up and throw it back at them I will guide it for you
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Aren’t you supposed to be on the communist north’s side?
They would but they didn't have a fuse
Wait Stalin aren’t you dead
comraaddd
i wish stuff like this still played on tv on a daily basis
The dudes like: yo wtf i just got hit by artillery
little humper forgot the fuse lol
best line hahah
My god his narration is like just from Hollywood, lot of respect and bro-love for you sir.
Now you’ve got _eight_ left - *meeeeow..!*
Thats insane that the one round that they messed up on is the one that would have killed them.
It’s a miracle
@@Dad-lu1oi its a made up story
@@DEV3N87 how do you know this? some times they dont explode

Crater analysis is an imperfect art....it will give (very) general enemy battery locations.
Lucky man, lucky man😂👌👍
What is the full documentary called?
crater analysts is when you take a M2 compass and shot a bearing from hole if you are lucky you can see a plow like depression in the ground. I did this with my Battery Commander in Afghanistan after a artillery attack. What suck was we walked into a mine field. Some Special Forces came by and helped us back track out of there. We just laughed it off and set up new Priority target based on the information we gathered. The MOS is 13B Canon crew member, aka Gun bunny, Red legs,Canon Cocker. (SSG Retired 1994-2014)
Now that is a war story!
I wonder how he figured it be better to lie right next to the 152 mm shell that might go off than to run like Usain Bolt.
The shrapnel will have a higher chance of killing you if you stood up and exposed your whole body. But laying down the idea is to have your legs absorb it thus technically saving you. But it’s a 152mm shell has enough explosives in it it wouldn’t matter if you were on the ground or running you’re a dead man. Also GL clearing 100ft+ in a few seconds.
@@lordcutlerbeckett4379 That might be so with hand grenades and I've even heard a story about a mortar round falling right in front of soldier and him surviving, but 152/155 mm shells contain 48 kg of explosive filling, that would turn you into atoms. Is legs absorbing the shock the reason we had to run out backs towards the nuclear explosion and raise heels ?
@@denis3208 I think he choose to lie because without the fuse the bomb is realtively safe, and also there where other bombs falling and the major risk at that moment were the shrapnel i guess
I think the others haven't really answered your question. The fuze used on those is a rgm2. It's point detonated and inertially armed. Once it fires the fuze becomes active. Once it contacts the ground the firing pin in the fuze hits the primer and boom.
I think(my opinion, it could be wrong) he didn't want to move because it was on his foot it dropping off of him could have caused it to go off.
Edit: the other guy said it didn't have the fuze, but I think you were talking about why he would stay on the ground before he knew there was no fuse in it.
I seen a video from Syria where a group of rebels received an incoming artillery round, even though they were about 20m away, about 4 of them out of about 10 dropped dead instantly. just by shrapnel.
I wish i could watch the whole episode
Awsome story😆👍
Imagine if this happen in present year. The soldier must be take selfie first before run...
😂😂😂
Now imagine you are in WW1. And your advance gets covered by a creeping barrage. These dudes man
it was either the canadians or the french[almost the same anyways] and possibly a scottish brigade who were known for walking so close with the shells they incurred casualties from the boldness of their proximity.
When it's not your time yet, it's not !
lucky man
Does anyone recall the narrators name? Every single doucmentary he's ever narrated was spot on gold.
Eric Meyers
That right there, is a miracle.
It's called Creeping Barrage before an attack used a lot and first used by the Canadians om vimiy ridge which was the only successful creeping barrage
Forgetting the fuse does happen. We fired one that way at FT Hood, and that was under the best of circumstances. Add in the fog of war, and i bet it happens a lot.
Like the Marine in WW2 sitting on a dud 16 inch round shaking sand out of his boot. :-)
That picture is awesome, I don't think I'd want to go anywhere near the thing, dud or not

I would have left Racing Stripes all over that field

You beautiful Gungie bastard!!! Semper Fi
OMG!
That's a lucky man rn
What a lucky guy..
What MOS is that ? ... Go out there and look at the impact craters to figure out the angles so we can figure out where the enemy artillery is.... No f*ckin' way sir !
We will map the debris field of your body parts and determine the trajectory
By the crater size, you can only determine the type of ordnance used or at least have an idea. To figure trajectory, radar would need to come into play and those most likely, be located at a FOB. The person doing the crater annalists would be the platoon sgt at the very least or anyone who would be "certified" at crater annalists and that could be anyone in any MOS.
I was thinking the same thing. Since explosions in my ill trained mind would be a somewhat hemispherical, the crater would be the same shape. Determining the amount of probable ordnance, to probable weapon used with past data to figure it out. To me going into no mans land to measure artillery craters just seems a bad idea as well. The other side had spotters calling in artillery, what’s to say they still aren’t there? Just no.
Back Azmith
even if that artillery round had a fuze , the round would not just "go off"
Sometimes you just get lucky! I probably would have been in shock for weeks.
That chief got decertified lol
Daaaaaayyuuuuuummmm.
That gun team are trying for world record of direct hit kill with howitzer dud shell 😆
He believes in luck.
Looks like they were recipients of creeping fire.
Nah.. the ammo just want to say "hi, how you doing?"
"Peaccccce"
“Now. Do you have 45 minutes to talk about our lord and savior Jesus Christ?”
*soldier* “Shit.”
no fuse?! what luck !!
Tall tale

@1:09 The Soviets had some deadly artillery pieces, not to mention their rocketry.
During Desert Storm, they used our battery of M109s to bait Iraqi artillery into firing onto our position. We would fire a battery one round and wait for the Iraqis to return fire. Luckily they were not accurate and our Q36/37 radars would track incoming rounds while the MLRS units behind us would counterbattery fire their rockets back on the Iraqi positions. It was devastating to them. I'm not going to lie, it was a little freaky having those shells coming back towards us.
Didn't the Iraqis have Weapons Locating Radars?
Thats a "smooth criminal" in the background playing..
It's hilarious that the round that didn't go off was probably missing its Fuze. Probably Due to a dumb NVA private forgetting to put on the fuze. I wonder what happened to him when they found a whole unused fuze. Did he hide it away somewhere or did he get scuffed up for it
I know of 3 ppl killed by non detonating rockets. 2 in Iraq and one in Afghanistan
I wouldn’t of lost my head to that
One of the luckiest man who got out of vietnam.
Have to say that I would be that soldiers shadow because he’s still got 8 lives left!!
Holy shit.
this guy looks like captain Price irl
UA-cam is now reading my mind. Wth...
Ancient Astronaut Theorist say yes.
More amazing is the number of people in Vietnam who got shot with a 40mm round that penetrated and didn't go off and live to tell about it.😬
Not his day to go , period .
People like they were jn the stone age, they literally had better artillery than us
Go back to base and change your ripstops.
Had an XO in Iraq who was walking in the dark and stepped on something that gave a little. Felt around in the dark looking for it, dug around it and shined a red light on it. TA-DAAA!! Anti-tank mine. H got a real short leash after that! 🤣
That's fucking insane
I realize these guys probably had it drilled into their head that hitting the dirt gave them the best odds of survival, but I don't think any amount of training could have kept me from just running for my life.
Well ure wrong the training is for that, for improve ur skills of surviving not killing urself in a panic attack
@@BryanAM7 What I was trying to say was when the shelling started, they just hit the dirt and kept an eye on how it was progressing - probably what they were trained to do in order to stay alive. I, on the other hand, no matter how much training I had, would probably not have been able to keep a level head and followed that training.
Lucky the enemy don't care about ammunition quality
1:54 you can see the dam round shit!
ahhh just kidding ... next you get big boom boom
NOW VIETNAM HAS A MCDONALD'S
He did not forget the fuse. . .It was removed by the Angels on its way there. . .In fact are a great many instances where far stranger things have happened. . .It is them, it has always been them. . .
@Anonymous Still an act of God, is it not. . .IF it was you, and you were there. . .Who would you credit. . .God. . .
@Anonymous OMG. . .How much more shallow could you or anyone else possibly think. . . My friend, even most Jews today know in their hearts, the reason for the Holocaust. . . It was their denial of Jesus Christ. . .IN other words, God brought on the Holocaust to punish them. . . Why would he do this??? Because at Mt.Sinah God gave the Ten Commandments. . .They did not obey. . . You must look in a much different way.
I understand your anger. . .And for good dam reason. . .The Catholic Church is a problem, and in a short time from now, you will see what happens. . .We are at the return of Jesus Christ as we speak. . .Its nearly finished.
@@daveberry5901 Don't want to burst your bubble but a quick google search reveals that "on average, 69% of U.S. adults were members of a church in 1998-2000, compared with 52% in 2016-2018. The decline in church membership mostly reflects the fact that fewer Americans than in the past now have any religious affiliation." In Germany it dropped from 70% to roughly 52% aswell. I seriously doubt that Jesus is returning, it rather looks like he is slowly going back to his cave where he never resurrected from.
Also I find it very unsettling to see you justifying the holocaust while stating how shallow someone's thoughts are. Anonymous did ask 5 legitimate questions that no Christian is able to anwer rationally and he could've asked at least 20 more. I generally respect people believing in supernatural phenomena but I draw the line at defending violence against innocent people.
If millions of people are wrong, why not convert them instead of initiating a genocide? Shouldn't your god be able to do that if he was able to create an entire universe with at least one planet that is habited by almost 10 million different species? Why did he need almost 2000 years for this when he could've get it done during the times of ancient rome? Why punishing their descendants instead of the people who supposedly received and disobeyed those commandments?
You certainly should reevaluate your thoughts.
@@daveberry5901 Just like the guy said...a human being made a mistake prepping the round is far more believable than God hanging out in a bunker with the VC playing around with 152mm shell fuses.

Bruh.. I dont sign for this shit
Don’t tell HIM there’s no GOD!!!
Why not run before it hit... Why lie down and literally wait to be "lucky"...
You have never been under sustained artillery attack, have you?
I wish it was that easy to just up and leave an area that is being hit by sustained accurate artillery barrages. You supposed to maintain a low profile with your head down to keep as much of your body close to the ground as you can from fragmentations and shrapnel.
@@GoofyAhhsPersonOnYT Yep the whole point is to pin you down, and it is very effective at that.
cuz if your start running the shrapnels and shells will certainly kill you far more easily. Note that what kills most is not the explosion itself, but the other flying shells or pieces of rocks and stuff that travel with the same speed of a bullet. That's why soldiers wear helmets and they try to stay low or be in a foxhole or a trench.
