I might’ve misheard you but November 30 you can have one of these custom built so you don’t have to buy packets to get what you want. You can just go to the website and build one from the ground up?
Thanks for stressing the limits of tools bc so many videos show creators pushing tools to the limit but never addressing any damage with continued harsh use, with emergencies being the exception.
Great info, thank you! Since the KS2 Elite is a saw-based outdoorsy tool with those garden shears, I am thinking about the Companion as a file-based urban tool. D2 blade, diamond file, scissors, bit driver and the last two slots going to either the ruler/magnet, T-shank holder (in case I need a wood or metal saw) or some combination of two single layer tools (awl, chisel, parcel hook, hook blade, package opener or crosscut file). I carry a SwissCard in my wallet, so I don't see using two slots for the pen/tweezers.
That hobby blade is a game changer to me. It's come in clutch more than a few times. I'm so tempted but I'm done with "pocket knives" and I'm sticking with box cutters and hobby blades
@@shsb2355i mean it's just a matter of time until Roxon also has the s30v blade, the hobby blade holder etc. It doesn't really make sense to judge them by the tools that are available at the moment when the frame makes the main difference
Got my Flex Companion today. I have been carrying the KS2e for 7 month. After playing with it for about an hour, I have decided to continue carrying the KS2e. The scissors, awl and blade are better than on the Companion. The pre loaded tool set is excellent. It's like the tool set in the KS2e without tweezers and combo can opener and bottle opener tool. Still glad I bought it for the modularity and future tool needs I may have. At only .1 of an ounce more I will continue to carry the KS2e for edc. Thanks and keep up your great work.
The combination bit bit extender is actually designed specifically for those bits. If you look inside it has a rim that those bits sit on so keep them in mind. It’s not just a regular role fit extender.
They should allow for modular scales, so things such as toothpick and the tiny pen can be tucked into the scales themselves. A bit like how victorinox does it but modular - you can have scales that come apart and used as a ruler, scales with a slot for a toothpick, scales that hold some shims, etc
I know that we can’t expect every kind of tool in the modular set, but I sure would like a larger, more robust sheers for the Flex like they have in the K2S. Don’t need to be exactly the same, but a 2 or 3 slot upgrade over the single slot scissors, please.
You are my favorite multi-tool nerd. Well thought out videos and always to the point. I wish Roxon would make a sheath with pockets so we can carry some of those extra implements. Also, a plastic type of long tool envelope similar to the one provided with the Surge. I know, I'm never satisfied...
@@Sgreubel This is something they should have considered since the flex. I do have an Harnds multitool and while it's not the greatest multitool, it does have a better sheath than many because it offers some additionnal storage.
I'm excited about the Companion. I'll be replacing the knife & saw blades with other tools to create an urban use, TSA friendly multi-tool designed to compliment my dedicated EDC knife.
I'm so exited about this stuff, I think a modular variant of the Roxon k2se would also be amazing. I don't want to make Roxon go bankrupt though either. Love what they have been doing.
They will be fine, right now for them the most important thing is getting as many ppl to try their products as possible. Also they want feedback on things too.
Funny that you say you struggled to open the Victorinox knife with one hand :D just FYI they have to do it that way because a number of countrys in Europe do not allow pocket knifes which you can open with one hand. Nice Video.
Excited to get the tool with the spiffy discount (cheers for that!)… I can apply the savings towards the stOOpid 🤪amount I’ll drop at the end of the month on a slew of the tool set options I probably don’t need.
In for one, but I have an attachment request hopefully you can make it happen. Can we get a wire stripper? There is hole in the market left by the discontinuation of the Leatherman ES4.
@@markdotson607 I think if it was removable it would probably be a bigger tool. I believe anyways Flex is about getting 1 default tool, pliers for the flex, bit driver for the companion. And then the rest is fully customizable. This is also the reason why I want to see more models.
Bummer, the T-shank holder did not get released Nov. 30th as mentioned @12:30, but hopefully it will soon and maybe with the other implements like the mini pliers.
What do you think about a "Micro Companion" with only short tools"? I love Roxon's modularity and I would love to have something similar to my Victorinox Nail Clip 580. Any clues on Roxon making a compatible nail clipper for Flex "ecosystem". Found something similar to Victorinox 8.2050.B1 nail clipper on Aliexpress and I'm thinking on modify it for my Flex. I also love my Roxon Flex but Companion is too big to consider buying it. Or maybe not...? 😂 By the way, thanks Dom for another great video. I was about to buy some Leatherman but thanks to your videos now I'm a Roxon boy! 😂
Hey Max, I just thought of an idea about this flex system. Roxon already has a modular knife or blade system they use. I would love to see something like the S501u ( modular knife with scissors) but implement the flex tools on the other side/end. It would basically be a modular free K4. It would be a good way to combine both of their modular systems into one very convenient package. IDK, I think you have a very close relationship with Roxon ( considering they gave you a promo code for 15% off lol) and you should pass that idea to them.
Love it, but, I don't need it. I prefer individual tools. I keep repeating, "I don't need it, I Don't need it, I DON'T NEED IT!!!" Yet I can't get it out of my head. My device Lust is strong with this one!
Usually I'm the same way but I felt like supporting this company and product. We have been asking for years and years for a modular multi-tool and these guys are finally delivering in what is seemingly an affordable and flexible option with decent enough blade steel.
I carry the roxon ks2 elite daily and it's my favorite multi tool and I just bought one of these (January of 2025). Main reason if I have to travel soon and I can modify this to bring it on a flight and have it pass tsa as I never check bags for short work trips. I can add the implement for a scalpel and pick one up when I land at a walmart and boom I'm never without a multitool.
Hey Dom, just got my 2nd Companion in the mail with a couple of the new tools. Only having an issue fitting the fold out ruler, the t-shank and the knife in. That should take up 5 slots but it does not fit. Any insights?
@@jkozol me too. That’s the weakest part of the tool. I thought they would take feedback from community from the first model but they just using same clip. Not good.
I really love my flex and my ks2e and i love roxon overall and their drive for innovation, and love that they made the companion, but since i already have both the flex and the ks2e i dont really see a point in getting the companion other than as a collectible
I got mine and its pretty good, the blade cuts really well. I was just wondering if yours has any blade play blade cause theres quite a bit up and down on mine
Dom - quick question. Looks like there is a solid metal end piece on top of the toop (on the opposite side of the bit driver). Can that be used as an impact surface like the Arc and Free series? If not, you might suggest to Roxon to beef that area up so it could be used in that way.
Im gonna stick with a SAK and MT combo. I have worn them on my belt so long they are just part of me. Ive had several versions over the last 20 plus years but always carry some combo. I like the new HF MT and the other good options out there now. I think the customizable MT is a better option.
Why is Roxon so in love with the (modified-) sheepsfoot main blade? Will they ever come out with a normal blade like a drop or clip point; something with some more belly?
They have lots of different blade styles for the Phantom platform, and the Flex system is very new with new bits coming out periodically, so it probably won't be too long before we get more modular blades.
One more crazy idea I have for them is if they çould think of a way to make something with a locking plier head. As it does in the vise grip and crunch, but also have some slots for the tools in the handle in this modular format.
How well did the Leatherman bits fit in the 1/4 driver I got a "We are not sure if it's compatible with Leatherman bits." From ROXON INC. All I really want to know is in a pinch could you get away with using them with it.
The one thing I dislike about the flex is the ergo shaped handles, I never liked the victorinox multitool (can't remember the name) for that reason, give me straight handles roxon.
Question about Vic. I have the 582. My understanding is that it was originally a Wenger and they kept the same scissor. The scissor on mine is horrible. If you use two opposed fingers the blades sort of go past each other. It actually works better with 1 finger pushing on it but still not great. Have you seen this issue? I was really hoping these would be perfect for nails as the clipper is great. Any other ideas? I have another Vic and the scissors are good on that one but no clippers.
@@ParkerBinion It's Mr. Green without the "E" on the end. Seems they are out of Germany. I ordered the larger one and it just arrived. So far I am liking it. The scissors are better than the Wenger but not as good as the Vic. They are good enough though that I ordered the smaller size as well. The clipper doesn't spring out like the Wenger. You have to get your fingernail under and pull it out. Once out it flops around but cuts well. Why can't we have perfect? :)
This sucks, I was in the process of making a t-shank holder handle to fit in my EDC bag that goes inside of my book bag because I carry on t-shanks for my surge which I don't always carry around but are in the EDC bag along with the Leatherman bits. This will fit perfectly in that little bag. Now this look like a better choice in every aspect.
I hope roxon will come will come with other platforms. I can understand why they do have less tools I mean even compared to the KS2E you have less and the companion is bigger. That's the price to pay for swapping tools and have a convenient handling of the tool. There is nice ways to create variants for this tool with a somewhat unusable tool for the modular system like a hammer for example, or have a ratchet driver even if it can't be folded. They can even make one with a corkscrew and lever / bottle opener so wine and cider drinkers will have something interesting for them.
Save up for a Leatherman and Victorinox. Stronger and better made of actual steel that is heat treated well. I carry a Huntsmen and Rebar and it has everything I need personally
Maybe you are lost. We are here because this is modular. Also this is made of D2 and German 4116 stainless which is perfectly acceptable steel. You can enjoy what you have without putting down others choices. Both of those companies have rested on their laurels long enough.
The bit holder wastes too much space in the multitool. I think a simple hex hole in the handle is all what is needed and so you can use that entire side for different tools. The pen, needle and tweezers need to go in the handles.
there are custom g10 scales for victorinox. i would consider victorinox on a different category or class than the roxon flex or the leatherman free. it’s like comparing a sportscar to a truck. they’re both vehicles but have different purposes.
Idea for Roxon, why not make this multitool double-sided? the bit driver side could also use the quick exchange feature. Also, they should focus on a smooth one-handed blade mechanism, the point of this tool is to mainly be a knife.
Locking knife AND one hand deploy is not street legal in Europe. You can have one but not both. So if they do not offer an alternative for the knife blade without that thumb opening thingy it won’t be legal here.

Ended today, not sure what time
The one thing I dislike about the flex is the ergo shaped handles, I never liked the victorinox multitool (can't remember the name) for that reason, give me straight handles roxon.
I did the pre order so excited
I'm looking forward to the smaller scissors.
I just wish the flex had a deeper pocket clip. I like mostly everything else about it.
Scales with a cut out for things like a corkscrew implement would be nice
What exactly do you mean by "standard" pen refill? There is no one standard size. This looks like a D1 - can you confirm this?
Thats the Name I couldn't remember! yes, its a standard D1
@@maxlvledc Nice, thank you!
Having it available in the UK would be great .. man we're missing out
Question about Vic. I have another Vic and the scissors are good on that one but no clippers.
yes, wenger scissors are much worse imo. I know the exact tool you are referring too. Roxon has something similar, but the scissors are only mediocre.
Same. I am waiting to test a similar tool from a company called Mr Greene.
Do you think its possible to 3d print scales for the flex companion so it can carry Victorinox scale tools? i opened up my kse2 and it seems doable...
Technically yes..it depends how it is assembled
I hope roxon will come will come with other platforms. I can understand why they do have less tools I mean even compared to the KS2E you have less and the companion is bigger. That's the price to pay for swapping tools and have a convenient handling of the tool.
There is nice ways to create variants for this tool with a somewhat unusable tool for the modular system like a hammer for example, or have a ratchet driver even if it can't be folded.
They can even make one with a corkscrew and lever / bottle opener so wine and cider drinkers will have something interesting for them.
Agreed!
I'm waiting for the new tools to come out. If not it's not worth the upgrade grade to this multi tool for me.
we covered the new implements in last video.
just dropped a fat stack on the multitool version sure hope roxon doesn't suck
let me know how it goes.
Ordered mine!
One add on that would be nice is a toothpick. I use one almost every day. I just carry a package in my lunch bag though.
I always think about the movie Executive Decision when the plastic toothpick is mentioned. The end where the toothpick saves the day.
You can buy a titanium toothpick to put on your keychain, that's what I did along with tweezers
Will the L7 rachet fit in the t shank holder or work in the bit driver?
711L? Yes
The bit holder wastes too much space in the multitool. I think a simple hex hole in the handle is all what is needed and so you can use that entire side for different tools. The pen, needle and tweezers need to go in the handles.
Got one for me & one for my dad ordered .
there are custom g10 scales for victorinox.
i would consider victorinox on a different category or class than the roxon flex or the leatherman free. it’s like comparing a sportscar to a truck. they’re both vehicles but have different purposes.
Definitely agree
I use a US made slip and snip for small zip ties.
NEED A SCALPEL/RAZOR BLADE RECEPTACLES
those are already available.
This looks pretty dope.
Idea for Roxon, why not make this multitool double-sided? the bit driver side could also use the quick exchange feature. Also, they should focus on a smooth one-handed blade mechanism, the point of this tool is to mainly be a knife.
it would make the tool FAR thicker, the bit driver barely takes any space.
Can double ended bits (such as a standard & philips) fit in the bit driver?
I showed the one set that can. Otherwise just standard one sided bits.
I ordered mine a couple ago
If the would also make an adaptor for a micro driver would be funominal.
Agreed, and 4mm/flat bit hybrid
Cool
Does the 15% off apply at checkout?
Yes it does, it goes from $50 down to $42.50
Till end of today I believe
Need a pliers tool
What happened to GOAT Tools? Did they fall off the map? They once appeared to lead the 'other-than-Leatherman' pack. Have they stopped innovating?
Not sure honestly
Locking knife AND one hand deploy is not street legal in Europe. You can have one but not both. So if they do not offer an alternative for the knife blade without that thumb opening thingy it won’t be legal here.
they do, that is what the original one came with. and you can grind the lock down slightly to make it non-locking.
Guess I have to wait here in Germany
Goodbye Victorinox.
I'll wait for the Sandvik SS blade to be released though.
