When my mom bought a house in 2006 i found a Victorinox Huntsman in a drawer of the old kitchen table. I was 6 years old and grew up using that knife in every scenario you could think of and I never had any issues with it. By now I have 3 different knifes for every occasion, a small one, my huntsman and a bigger Hunter XT. Just a week ago I sent my first one to the Victorinox HQ for some maintenance and new scales. Also just found out it is at least 33 years old since they discontinued the exact model in 1991, so the knife is at least 9 years older than me. These are hands down the best knifes anybody could ever want. I get that some people might want a Leatherman Tool or something similar as backup but for everyday carry you absolutely don´t need anything more than a plain old and simple Victorinox.
Do you have a Huntsman without hook? I have one Huntsman without hook, with special Swiss Confederation 700th universary scales from 1991. I got my first SAK on 2006 as aeroport security confiskated knife.
@@MSkachenite Mine also does not have a hook, It had a local tire companys name imprinted. Luckily my dad made me a leather necklace for the knife, otherwise i would have surely lost it as a kid. haha
Just have to say I really appreciate the work put into the description with chapters, time stamps, and links to products. So many don’t do that and make it more difficult to find specific gear. I appreciate it.
I’ve had a Champ for about 25 years. One scale broke (after a bad drop). I went to an official Victorinox shop in Germany and they gave me new scales for free right after hearing my story. I discarded the old ones and my Champ is like brand new. Amazing.
I had a Victorinox Rambler on my keychain for 4 years. "The best tool is the one you have on you." Boy, did I get good mileage from that. It was versatile, lightweight, and very discrete.
My wife said she didn't want a multitool with a bunch of tools on it she only wanted a good knife and good scissors. I bought her the ROXON you showed. She loves it!
I been working in the trades my whole life. I've used a million multi tools. My favorite is the victorinox farmer or hiker combined with the 5-inch knipex cobra pliers. I have a ton of leathermans and they are great, but I feel like when I need a pair of pliers, I need a legit pair of pliers especially when turning bolts or to get a decent amount of leverage on something to bend or pull. I use the victorinox mostly for the flathead and phillips screwdrivers, saw and awl. Usually for poking or prying or to tighten or loosen a screw or the saw works great on wood, PVC, Hard rubber, ect. I have used the other tools on the victorinox farmer or hiker on occasion. The blades come in handy if I happen to forget my main pocket knife. I carry both tools in a leather slip that fit beautifully in my back pocket. To me it's been the ultimate multi tool combo and it's lighter and flatter in the pocket than most leathermans.
I also rock the Farmer and the 150 mm Knipex Pliers Wrench as my EDC. I've tried many combos, this one works best for me. (Partly because we can't EDC locking knives here in the UK)
I'm a fan of this combo as well, but tend to carry the Sog power access for its precision plier head, one handed opening, weight, which is lighter than any other full size to my knowledge, and 3D philips.
I carry a victorinox s557 with locking blade, phillips and flathead. The walnut scales look awesome. I broke one of the tools, sent it to Victorinox to repair and received a brand new s557 instead. That kind of service makes me loyal forever.
The Victorinox SwissChamp is my all time favorite Swiss Army knife - mostly due to the nostalgia factor - my uncle brought back a Swiss Army knife when he visited the factory more than 45 years ago - I really don't recall which model or if it was a Wenger or Victorinox but the width of the tool and approximate number of implements felt very close to the Swiss Champ - that knife was "borrowed" from me by an acquaintance and I never saw it again. As and adult I own two and several other models - in all honesty I use the Tinkerer the most often out of my Swiss Army knifes - there's probably about a half dozen in various rooms in the house and in my vehicles...
Maxlvledc is definitely the best knife/edc reviewer there is. This is just my opinion, but when I want an honest review on stuff that does not break the bank, your channel is the best. Keep up the great work. I love how you care about your viewers' money. 👏👏👏
@maxlvledc Well deserved! It is great to see youtubers care more about their subscribers than pleasing the companies they are reviewing. I can tell that you are honest and I certainly appreciate it. You do not have an agenda you are just answering the questions at hand. I respect that.
Its hard to beat a Swiss army knife. iv had Leatherman's and Gerbers. I'm currently carrying the Arc, but im always going back to the Victorinox Pioneer X.
I've bought five of the Mossy Oaks. Three were gifts, one was for myself, and the last is a spare. The hex bit holder and locking blade really sell it. I also think it has the best assortment of tools out of all the similar ones.
I have the officer suisse for 60yrs . I have never been disappointed in its functionality. I have been able to replace the pen , tooth pick and the tweeters. I will always look at the Victorinox for my knife.
The Sanrenmu 9019 should be mentioned. It’s a great Swiss Army type knife with the tools I need when out in the woods. The Sandvik steel is great, one handed blade deployment via thumb stud or flipper tab, the saw is amazing, and I use the rope cutter/guy hook when processing game.
Thanks for this video. Have carried a Victorinox Tinker for over 25 years. Also have a Victorinox Adventurer in my go bag . Misplaced my knife was loooking to replace it with a Super Tinker (scissors are a plus with only 1extra layer) Also considering Fieldmaster and Farmer X. Got the Roxon and have used everything but can opener in the 3 days since it arrived. Heavier than Tinker but the other knives I was looking at would also have been heavier. Keep up great work.
Hello Sir, your questions are very simple to answer😁 nothing beats a real Vic since they bought Wenger. My favorites are 3 different ones for 3 different options: one for the key ring (ClassicSD) , one for my pocket (huntsman) and one for my edc bag (Ranger Grip/Wood 55, have both). If I have to choose between them, I would take the RangerGrip55 (Ex-Wenger) because of that big locking blade and the biggest saw you can find on a pocket folding knife. It’s not a silky, but hey… find another saw that works so great in this size and also carrying other tools with it. This knife sits perfekt in my hand, I can work hours and hours with it without having any problems. And here it comes to the issues I see with all the other ones you have shown . They all have harsh corners, I don‘t want to work longer than 5 minutes with them. The only knife i accept in my pocket besides a Vic is an Opinel with self made handle😊 yes I am a person, who likes wooden self made things😁greetings from Mercedes Benz town Stuttgart in south west Germany 🤗Judy
Great video! I'm looking forward to what Roxon will put out in the next few years. They really seem to be putting in the effort to compete with Victorinox. As it happens, I got my latest Victorinox in the mail today. I did some research on the SAK Wiki, and found a discontinued but new Explorer Plus on eBay. It cost me more than a Roxon at $65, but I know I'll be carrying this for years. The Explorer Plus is the current Explorer model with Plus scales. Those are the scales on the Compact, and so they have the pin, pen, tweezers and toothpick all in the scales. Since it's an explorer, it has the inline Philips driver. You also get the corkscrew with the micro driver, and the larger Victorinox scissors. It's more weight in my pocket than my old Tinker, but it sure looks like an upgrade for the weight. I know enthusiasts aren't the biggest market for Victorinox, but I sure do wish they would make a line for us with G10 and upgraded steel. Even 14C28N would go a long way towards making the knife geek market happy. I have long thought of the 58 mm small knives they make as "minimum viable knives". The Classic SD in particular feels like the minimum you can throw in a pocket or purse to get the benefits of having scissors and a knife on you at all times.
Great vid. I replaced my EDC Victorinox of 15+ years with the Roxon KS2 and bit kit around 6-8 months ago and haven't looked back. I only wish it came with a pen and mini LED option like the SAK Midnite Manager/Minichamp so I could get rid of my separate pen and keychain flashlight. (BTW all closed captions in this vid brought to you by Dom's hands. 🇮🇹😁👍)
I love the Vic Tinker series, I have all of them and even a couple of discontinued Tinker models. I also love the Vic Hunter Pro even though I think it could use a slight upgrade or a little modification.
I have a Victorinox Soldier from 1939. I could send it to them if anything is wrong with it, but it works absolutely fine. As far as multitools go I still think the Swisstool X is the most complete, well thought out and toughest out there, period.
I've had that Roxon for about a week. One often overlooked advantage of that form factor is the ability to clean the blade and housing when on multi day backcountry trips.
That was a great comparison of different brands. My very first Victorinox was the champ back in 1982 when I did my first camping, traveling trip from Canada through the USA down to the bottom of Mexico and back. I don't know whatever happened to that but the memory stayed with me over the years and a few years ago I decided to buy another champ. And then the addiction started. I have recovered now and I'm doing better. I keep Leatherman surge and the Swiss Army champ in my bag at all times. Those two tools give me a pretty decent range. It makes you appreciate how much precision they put into making these knives when you see the competition. The knife I bought in 1982 is exactly the same as it is today. Except I think I didn't have a little pin in there back then.
I really like the Roxon M3. It’s smaller and cheaper than the ones you highlighted. It does not have the high end steel, but I’ve got many other blades. This one has tweezers, a really better toothpick (pointier than the Swiss army), and a hidden Phillips and flat head eye glass screw driver. Its main tool is another excellent scissor (folding from the middle) and it has a little blade, bottle/can opener/box cutter, Philips, and awl. Everything locks. And it’s $20. This one sits in my center console in my car. I’ve got a multitool and single use tools in my garage, car, and house for real jobs.
That said, when I was in Swizerland, I treated myself to a Victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit X with ratchet, bit an and leather case. Talk about a beautiful tool. It’s expensive and probably not as tough and as useful as my Charge Plus in titanium but I had to have one. It’s a work of art.
I totally agree. I got the Swisstool and Spirit X, along with the ratchet set, etc. Still call on my my Wave with bit kit and ratcheting extender as my first string starter kit. Those swisstools are extremely well made, have immaculate fit and finish, and are almost too nice to use! I carried a Compact as the perfect complement to my Wave kit for a while. Then I bought my brother an Explorer for urban use. Darn thing is so useful I bought one with the ruby plus scales for myself and carry it in a leather slip. SAKs can be addicting.
Very informative video! I like all 2-3-layer Victorinox/Wenger models with scissors, and thats whats in my pockets usually. The Ruiker S might actually replace the Classic SD on my car keys, and the Gerber Armbar would be awesome uf it had a locking bit driver.
I've always found SAKs lacking; punch dagger Phillips, corkscrews and non-locking implements (twisting something without a lock is sub-optimal) and the blade being thin and good for slicing but not much else. And getting the implements out is a pain. The T4 might be expensive but everything works, everything locks, everything acts like it should (Phillips screwdrivers that actually drive) , opening, even one-handed, is easy (if you're struggling with the blade, instead of dismantling it and taking out a spring, just run a needle file over the pivot face to round it out, don't even have to take it apart) and the blade can slice, carve, gouge, anything you need. Oh and a pocket clip so it's not rattling around and I always know which orientation it's coming out. I'm not a leatherman fanboi, the shit they pack into the rest of their range is like SAK's offerings, either "who is this for?" or random "let's put a precision screwdriver in a massive pair of pliers, to utterly waste space". The T4 happens to have everything I need, in a safe and usable way, as an EDC for everywhere.
What a well researched, detailed and organised review. I watched it more in hope than expectation. I am half Swiss and have carried a Vick for 55 years. Way back then it was horn, bone and even pearl scales. What I have used most in that time are the scissors the toothpick the mag glass and Phillips. I have the fat 7 on a belt pouch I use it every day it has been so versatile and useful. My only consistent gripe over the years has been the scissor spring it goes off true then when you close the knife it snags and can get bent - much prefer the Wenger type lever spring. Other than that I just get bored with the same thing and over the years have tried many alternatives - Wenger, Leatherman etc but nope I just end up carrying two tools which is such a faff I get more bored with that so its back to the fat 7.
I totally agree with the KS2 Elite. I ordered one a month ago and it immediatly replaced my Victorinox i had for over 20 years. It is just really nice that every tool locks. By the way I am in Austria and it is totally fine for blades to be one-hand and locking here, so it is not illegal in the entire EU like you said. My favorite Victorinox would be the Swiss Champ if size is not an issue and the Manager because it even fits in a wallet and still has a great toolset for me.
Great video! You have got to get yourself a Fox Vulpis! It's excellent quality with great blade steel choices (M390 or N690). These remind me of the Victorinox Small Tinker (81mm, I think) but are closer in size to the 74mm Executive. They need to expand this product line to a larger format and more tools, but for those who like the small format (I do), my only gripes are the spring tension needs to be a bit higher, and I want a Phillips driver (3D, I hate 2D Phillips).
Great video--I've never seen anything on Victorinox quite like your "competition." However, I've never understood the obsession with scissors. I can't recall ever using them in the decades I've been carrying SAKs. If you keep one of your blades, like the secondary, extremely sharp it can do anything that scissors can (except maybe trimming your nails), including cutting paper, plus a whole lot more. But even the tiny pliers on some SAKs can pull, push, twist and crush. Those are essential handwork applications that you can't do with any other tool. And the large scissors on the Roxon KS2E could instead have been an even more substantial miniature pliers.
Great video! I love my SAKs. The only pocket knife that has ever replaced it in my pocket is the American Service Knife (ASK). Their tools, materials, and finish is incredible!!! Thanks for another great video.
That Ruike S31 is as close to a Vic's 84mm as it is to 58mm. So when comparing blade sizes, you could look to the 84mm blade just as easily. They are only 1mm different, and the 84mm blade is much larger and sturdier than the 58mm blade overall. Unfortunately, Victorinox hasnt offered scissors on the 84mm size for many years, claiming a broken machine. If scissors arent an issue, then an 84mm can be a great alternative to the larger 91mm. They are surprisingly more pocketable than the 91mm with little loss in tool functionality.
I really do like victorinox knives and like them a lot. But having locking implements on the ROXON KS2 just makes so much superior and at the same price point is really nice. My problem with some of the Victorinox models is that they get to be to thick while the ROXON KS2 is the same thickness as my Victorinox Camper while still being slightly shorter and having a pocket clip. I really like the ROXON KS2 and will stay with me. I will still carry SAKs because they are just so good. My favorite is the Camper just because that was the one I was given, but think the Compact or the Super Tinker is the best.
I carry one of my SAK collection EVERY SINGLE DAY, NO MATTER WHAT. My fav is my 91mm 5 layer Ranger, or my vintage 2 layer Executive. I love those two because they have excellent files, which i must have to maintain a couple fingernails that were damage by injury and never quite healed properly.
I can't seem to find it now, but I believe one of the Roxons comes with a removable craft blade instead of a full blade. That's huge, because it's under the 2.5" length limit in some cities, easily replaced, and means you can just toss the blade and take the rest I to many places you cannot take a knife. (Airport, courthouse, many office buildings, etc.) That's a feature no Victorinox has. It pains me that 91mm Vics are not street legal in Chicago and some other cities. Now if Vic took something like the Compact and replaced the blade with a good craft blade? Now we're talking! Especially if you throw in a third layer for an inline Philips, magnifier or, one of the other less common tools. Lots of cirections you could go there, but you'd still have a rock solid base to build from.
Well, i bought a ruika g10 after watching this. I'll see how it compares to any of my other blades. That said, that little serrated blade is a seatbelt cutter that goes with the window breaker. In a camping oriented build, i like it as a gut hook.
I used to have a Ruike L51-B, and it was nice, but what I found was, that it was too heavy, the saw in my opinion is nice, but it doesn't compare to a Victorinox, and the screw drivers were utterly useless. Since than I've returned to my Victorinox Soldier, and added to my EDC an Roxon KS2, mainly for the scissors. P.S. Not in all of the EU locking blades are illegal.
29:55 Carrying a locking knife is not illegal in the UK. You just need a reason (in case you might need it doesn’t count; as a weapon or for self defence is illegal). After all, you can have more dangerous tools on you out of the house. You could have a chefs knife for work (or perhaps taking knife home from having it sharpened or you just bought it). I think a locking knife is equal to a fixed knife under UK law.
I bought the roxon ks2. And..... I love it. The knife is great, the scissors, amazing like there other multi tools, the deployment of the additional tools..is great..never had a tool where you could push a button and they pop out for easy access. The awl is incredibly sharp. Much sharper then any Leatherman I own. I use it to open.clam shell style packages with ease! Roxon is crushing right now and I would never have believed it if I didn't get one myself
I am enjoying your videos comparing pocket knives and multi-tools. I generally carry SAKs with one or two layers for a few select functions and comfortable carry in a pocket. I am considering the added functions of a multi-tool but I am not sure how often I may need needle nose pliers and also being saddled with the added bulk. The locking blade and tools with the optional bits for the Roxon and value of the Mossy Oak products intrigues me. Thanks for shedding a light on the available quality options and help steer me clear of the pretenders.
I had a brass boker mini tech tool I gave my dad - it had a knife, scissors, and that tool with a flathead and bottle opener and package opener - basically the same as the ruike. Fit and finish was excellent and 12c27 blade was way better than a 58mm victorinox blade. I think he still carries it all the time. they had some copper ones too and they were only about $25 at the time. Haven't checked again in a while though.
I really liked my T4…. But I still gave it away and went back to my Climber. I got the T4 for half price and it was definitely worth the price. The blade also got worked in really well and I could flip it open with one hand.
yeah man, the KS2E is such an incredible value. Roxon is cooking so hard rn, I can't wait to see what they'll continue to do. about the measurement markings: I really appreciate having them on my tools, even if they're as small as this. as a lifelong user of freedom units I find it hard to visualize centimeters, and it's helpful if I need to take a picture with a size reference. also, favorite Vic is the Classic SD because I've had them since I was a kid, but I think once I finally get ahold of a Jetsetter or Minichamp, that'll probably change. I do have an old Swisschamp that belonged to my grandpa, it's still perfectly usable but it's one of my most valuable possessions so I can't risk carrying and losing it 😂
I carry a knife with a locking blade clipped into my right pocket and a Victorinox Explorer on a keychain clip clipped into my left pocket. The keychain clip keeps the Explorer from diving to the bottom of my pocket with my keys and other miscellaneous hardware. I like the Explorer’s Phillips screwdriver and the magnifying glass which I use surprisingly often. Mine is also equipped with the mini screwdriver that fits into the corkscrew. The most used tool on my Explorer is the scissors. I also carry a pair of Crescent 4 1/2” mini pliers in a soft pouch.
if we include S501U on here then the GHK12 should also be looked into. Incredibly similar to the Roxon (You can even use the Roxon swapping blades in it) but with 2 extra functions: A pair of locking 3d screwdriver tools in the bottom which form a square post for the incluided 1/4 inch adaptor/bit kit and the scissor and blade section can separate from one another. Currently have the combination pull-cutter can opener blade thingy from my phantom in and it works a treat.
I need a pocket tool that has a knife and strong wire cutters to take to the beach on turtle patrol. This will be exposed to salt air and salt water. I can wash it after but want something to stand up to that task. Any suggestions.
great vid, loved the compare and contrast approach. I carry the Huntsmen all the time and I do have the Ranger grip in my grab-n-go bag as well. I have used my Huntsman for so many uses and let others use it as well. They all loved it. However you peaked my interest in the Roxon ks2 elite D2. Saved it on my amazon account and might go to it later. I think the only thing that "might' bother me is the bulk
It’s so wild to me that locking blades are illegal in some places. If anything you would think non-locking blades would be illegal because of how dangerous they are to the user.
Love this video! Personally, my current favorite Victorinox/Armbar/K2-format multitool is the NexTool 12 in 1. Cheap as hell, manufactured in China, but with a larger 3.11" blade and the right combination of tools I'm looking for to EDC. Currently $19 on Amazon, worth a gander.
All of those multitools look great. I would not be disappointed if I received any of them as a gift. I sometimes carry the Victorinox Trekker, but I usually carry just a knife.
the nextool E1 looks great. i love the bit driver and that it's compatible with the leatherman set. just ordered mine and can't wait to test it out. it's similar to your top pick but more modular. for DIYers, similar to the key bar concept of keys and tools in one package, i got the 1/2 leatherman wave clone and put the driver on the locking side and replaced the other tools with the 3 keys i need. so in the end i have a decent blade, and saw on the sides that lock, and a locking bit driver with flat and philips. i've carried it for a few years now daily and love it. you need to be handy to chop the keys down to nothing but the actual part that goes in the lock and drill holes.
I own and carry the mossy oak tool that you reviewed. I use the blade to cut bags of flour and open packages and cut cardboard. It’s sharp and very easy to use. The only disappointment I have is that the bits fall out of the driver on occasion.
instead of the Victorinox Super Tinker, try the DeLuxe Tinker, which has a plier instead of a saw. Also in my pocket most every day, is the humble Stanley 10-049 folding utility knife - slim, lightweight, rustproof, the very sharp blade locks and is replaceable.
For me a tool needs a real use pair of pliers and screw driver bits. So for me, the only tool I carry is a Leatherman Skeletool. I have had EDC knives but the only one that keeps making it back to my pocket is the Skeletool
I am not so sure than the Roxon KS2E saw is not actually better than the Fieldmaster for the reason that it locks. It makes the Roxon's actually easier to use. I would carry my Fieldmaster in Europe because the laws vary so much there depending on the country (there is no blanket law against carrying a knife across the EU - in some countries the reason why you carry a knife, for hunting or hiking for instance, might allow you to have whatever you see fit on you). But Roxon nailed it for sure ! I really hope they'll follow Civivi and offer it in different colours !
Hey great video man! Ive wanted a Key-bar key organizer for a couple years now, i love the design and all the various tools you can get tor them. They just cost a bit too much, and i think they would still take up a big chunk of my pants pocket. I also really like the look of that Leatherman T4 Free, but youve given me food for thought. Appreciate it , thank you :)
@@afoolishman12same here. The d2 steel on the blade, and all locking did it for me. I used the scissors the other day to cut antenna wires, and it just went through. If victorinox used a premium steel for the blades, I think I would go back though. Doesn’t need to be magnacut, s30v or something would be nice
I bought the ks2e and it's so smooth when opening the tools. It's just so good. The can opener isn't as good but it's good enough. Everything else is amazing tho.
Was happy with my Roxon older generation knife until yesterday when I had to try and get a dog ball out of my drain. I opened the knife and started picking and prying on the ball to try and get it out. Well the locking mechanism for the blade would not stay locked and the blade kept folding in. Now I know that’s not what the knife is designed for, but the locking mechanism shouldn’t fail during such a simple task. I will say, I still like having the bigger scissors
I can go without a bottle opener, a cap can be removed with basically anything and they are rare enough that the implement is just a dud for me... Love my huntsman though! Also I like how the two screws and the slider on the KS2 together makes a face!
The form, function, and quality of Victorinox is unmatched. I love to see competition, though, and options for everyone is always great. My biggest issue with Victorinox is that they discontinue too many cool models. It breaks my heart that I won't be able to ever own some of the older ones, lol!
I think that the Victorinox Explorer is excellent, but I would love to have a Yeoman (discontinued and hard to find for a reasonable price). I have an older Wenger Swiss Sportsman, which is great, too! I dislike the handle shape, but it is hard to beat the tool, set on the Delemont S557 series. That locking blade, the wrench, in-line Phillips, and small slip joint pliers (a bit less robust than Victorinox style pliers on, say, a Deluxe Tinker but more useful)...I'd love to see that in a standard 91mm frame!
I'm with you on the mossy oak. If victorinox came out with all locking implements damn boy. All time favorite is the tinker, then ranger, pioneer and basically all of them except the cybertool. Great video👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I might have to pick that last one up. Ive carried the swiss champ for a while with zero issues what so ever. But i have been in a few situations where it would have been convenient to have a one hand opening blade
My ks2e glass breaker bead came out when dropped. Another thing im not a big fan of is the saw I think roxxon should have added a different tool instead.maybe a pull cutter or they should have used that space for a larger file. Other than those 2 complaints I LOVE this pocket tool.
Ok got back from work and watched the video from front to end. So the issue with the KS2E and I bought it (and returned it) is that it felt like every tool on there locked differently. Some had the pivots that would lock it but others would lock in some other way. I recall there being 3 different ways to lock some of the tools and that got confusing. They should have just made it one lock that worked on any given tool that needed a lock.
I wonder if the weird serrated blade is there as a strap/clothing cutter. Angle makes sense for it, plus the glass breaker. I like the armbar. The driver with standard bits, and some versions have the hammer on the end. Scissors suck though, which is weird because they aren't bad on the Suspension. I still have my ancient Swiss Champ. Bought a 1 hand trekker, have a mini champ on my keys.
Great vid! I've carried a Mini Champ and now Rambler for over 40 years. It's a family meme that I have to have it in my pocket. My one complaint is the poor steel for the blade. It dulls way too fast and sharpening wittles it away to nothing. I would pay double to triple if V would do a magna or S90V type blade.
I like locking tools, and especially the ease of their deployment, which is not available in non-locking tools like Victorinox, So you need really strong thumbnails to deploy them against the strong springs, which gives the impression my nail is going to break, trying to get them out. So I might well look at the alternatives you describe. I do have one of the tiniest Victorinox tools on my keychain and get good use from it, no real complaints there other than that my tweezers and toothpick are long gone.
I'd go ks2e > the half wave clones > Leatherman t4 > victorinox. Prefer locking. I use half of a super tool 300. Saw, serrated, 3d Philips, screwdriver, bottle opener(need to swap this).
Favorite Victorinox on my wishlist is the farmer X. I have been carrying the Roxon KS2E for a couple months . Over all I find it comfortable to use . The blade is OK. But the scissors are the star of the show . I used the all on some wood and bent the tip. And the can opener bottle opener thingy is cheap and wish the would have just put a large flat (pry) instead. The driver is pretty good too. The saw is so short but pretty sharp. Overall I like it bit could do without that one tool. I have the Victorinox camper which I love the saw . And when I said I think the roxon is comfortable and then I use the Victorinox I feel like the swiss knife is so much more comfortable. But camper doesn't ha e the scissors. It is a choice for sure . I still have my Rambler on my keys and my 1998 wave on my hip . Just incase the roxon fails me . Haha
I'd just received the Mossy Oak from Ali Express Anniversary Sales. I am planning to replace my Swiss Tech because of the larger scissors since I am staying in urban area. Ali Express do has few lookalike Mossy Oak's with quite similar price range, namely Diacamping DL15 and Dakoyu. Another brand, Baihuabao, 9 in 1 selling at cheaper price..
Great review. I think that when you look at the smaller multi tools (that really fits in your small jeans pocket) you have to address the toothpick and the twizzers, it’s so overlooked that I don’t get it. I’m using the toothpick pretty much on a daily basis (I have a few), every time after I eat and before I meet clients, I’m checking my teeth. The tweezers are also super useful and it’s annoying me and that all the other companies are simply ignoring it (accept maybe for Roxon that has both on some of their tools).
After seeing this I did some searching and the Ruike LD51-B has everything I've been wanting in a multi-tool. I've been looking at the workchamp/hercules and wishing they had a 1-hand blade like my trekker. I'm pretty sold on this. My only hesitation is I have a weird brand loyalty compulsion. 😂 Lol
Part of the complication is finding what is comparable per each company, model wise. You did a great job finding comparables. I would have to see the Roxon model but it looks like they have put out something very well made. To me this range is limited. I can't fathom using a saw, on a tool that seems more purposeful for opening a bottle of wine, and having a few basic functions for a pinch. Although the Victorinox military knife seems more useful because it has a beefier blade (one handed) and an actual decent sized saw. But this is obviously a larger design. it just seems if I wanted to carry a knife that had purpose and could saw well, with a few other implements, I would reach for something like this before a smaller blade, and saw design. My point is, this range of multi tool, seems to exist in a useless space... If you go a little smaller? Something like the minichamp is incredible. Find me anything that comes close to the range, actual ability of the tools to work, and design in this range, and I would be impressed. On the other side? Find me anything just past this range, where a pliers and saw could actually be robust and useful and the field opens up. If we are in this range, in addition to a slightly bigger design as stated above, why not compare the SOG varieties? The mini particularly seems much more bang for the buck so to speak.. even with a little more weight. The saw still would be dreadful in a pinch lol, but would probably work as well as any of the other tools mentioned. Just my two cents.
Thanks for the story!
Luckily my dad made me a leather necklace for the knife, otherwise i would have surely lost it as a kid. haha
Did you ever buy a real knife?
@@georgezimmerman3334 i have many knives, although most are fixed blades - what is a "real" knife ? lol
Just have to say I really appreciate the work put into the description with chapters, time stamps, and links to products. So many don’t do that and make it more difficult to find specific gear. I appreciate it.
Thanks! For long videos it's the only way imo
This is the factor I appreciate the most, the attention to detail....👍
I’ve had a Champ for about 25 years. One scale broke (after a bad drop). I went to an official Victorinox shop in Germany and they gave me new scales for free right after hearing my story. I discarded the old ones and my Champ is like brand new. Amazing.
I had a Victorinox Rambler on my keychain for 4 years. "The best tool is the one you have on you." Boy, did I get good mileage from that. It was versatile, lightweight, and very discrete.
I carry a rambler every day. I love it!!
Love this. I just replaced my 17yr old rambler with a new rambler. Amazing what that little thing has done for me.
@GARBAGEMANBRAD i do not replace, i just send them in to victorinox, they repair or replace every tool and you get a like new knife.
What happened to it?
Sadly after carrying it for several years I lost my Rambler a year ago. Thinking about replacing it with the Mini Champ.
My wife said she didn't want a multitool with a bunch of tools on it she only wanted a good knife and good scissors. I bought her the ROXON you showed. She loves it!
Wise lady - why carry all that bulk and mass when most of the tools simply aren't needed?
We need to do a plier/pocket knife combo video
@@maxlvledcYes!
I also rock the Farmer and the 150 mm Knipex Pliers Wrench as my EDC. I've tried many combos, this one works best for me. (Partly because we can't EDC locking knives here in the UK)
My choice is the Farmer X and a Knipex XS Cobra (100mm).
That kind of service makes me loyal forever.
what tool u broke¿
The cybertool m from victorinox has to be my favorite.
thanks, that is high praise.
Cybertool S or M paired with a 125 Knipex as a "base edc". Then add in your favorite light, knife(s), pry, etc...
8 years in europe (france) with my victorinox explorer and still the number one....Best quality/price ratio for 40 euros... Unbeatable
I've bought five of the Mossy Oaks. Three were gifts, one was for myself, and the last is a spare. The hex bit holder and locking blade really sell it. I also think it has the best assortment of tools out of all the similar ones.
The super tinker has my heart. It’s just classic utility. Amazing gists as well.
Absolutely! Any of the Tinker models are great for EDC, it's all a person really needs.
With Vic you have a huge choice to get (nearly) exactly what you need. If you can carry the locking blade, the 111mm knives are superb
The Classic SD in particular feels like the minimum you can throw in a pocket or purse to get the benefits of having scissors and a knife on you at all times.
i like the victorinox explorer special if they add wood saw its great
Lols!! Hey I am half Italian! Sooooo 😅
@@maxlvledclol I'm Italian as well, so I understood everything your hands were saying.😄
Victorinox has been making pocket knives for over 130 years
Great video! The Spartan, Climber, and Compact are my go-to EDC Swiss Army knives.
The large Victorinox shown at 20:30 shows the old slide-lock mechanism for the blade. They were discontinued years ago in favor of liner locks.
Hmm. A plier in that slot would be very interesting!!
Could you please re-do the scissors series and test new materials like thick zipties?
Most would break..it's a terrible use of scissors in general
(Airport, courthouse, many office buildings, etc.)
That's a feature no Victorinox has.
In my small European country- Latvia, the locking blades are allowed, and balkisongs are legal, too.
I think the prices for the different tools is very relevant and should be discussed along with the tools features.
The Mossy Oak 12 in 1 is in my EDC tool pouch with the Knipex pliers. 4" cresent wrench, and the olight i3T EOS. It works everyday.
My favorites roxon ks2,leatherman free t4 and victorinox ranger👍
That M32 looks legit, definitely adding that one to the collection!
yeah man, the KS2E is such an incredible value.
I'll. Check it out
My modded huntsman with Maize and Blue scales cannot be beaten 😏
It can by OSU most years . . .
@@neilwhitmer2671 get outta here with that red and silver alox junk 🤭
I wish I still had my huntsman. Lost 2 of them already. 😢
Making do with a tinker for now.
The Victorinox Deluxe Tinker is my daily carry multitool. I use it daily at both of my jobs.
Skeletool is my preference always
I bought the weatherman free 4, used it for maybe a week and went right back to victorinox, just didn’t see the quality in it
All of those multitools look great.
Jon Gadget just released a relevant video about the future of Victorinox and their current priorities. Might interest people.
Oh???!?! I will check it out
For me a tool needs a real use pair of pliers and screw driver bits.
Nothing is going to beat my Victorinox knives. Ever. Unless Victorinox does it themselves.
yep, for me the only thing that gets close is those Italian ones but they are 4 times the price.
The ks2 elite kicked vicorinox out of my pocket. Victorinox needs to step it up.
I eventually always come back to this conclusion. I also really enjoy the Leatherman Garage Euro 74 or whatever it was called.
I couldn’t agree more!
Hmm, sounds like a flaw. Contact them to get replacement imo
Nothing yet beats the Victorinox knives I’ve been using for 60 years, my first when I was a scout .
That Mossy Oak 12-in-1 looks great. How's the quality? I can't help but wonder at that price point.
Looks like I will be picking up a Roxon KS2E (Elite).
A bold presentation! Awesome
Victorinox and leatherman are my favorite MT brands to collect 🤟
Victorinox is hard to beat. So many great models, but my most carried (total time) is the Explorer. Currently, I'm carrying a Mountaineer.
The Ruike is probably the only SAK style multitool I would ever consider getting mainly for the tweezers.
Great comparison! Thanks for this…
I was hoping to see a competitor to the Alox 1 or 2. If you happen to have any ideas let me know!
😂 Lol
I really like the James brand Ellis and pocket it a lot but also love my saks especially my manager with micarta pen scales
