As you’ve already read, her LIVE performance of this at the Oscars is one of the Golden Nuggets of her career. It was a statement, and some very impressive vocals.
As many have said, the Oscars' performance is the definition of iconic, one of her best and most liked by fans, for sure. It's epic. Looking forward to it, whether you do it now or in the chronological order!
I also highly recommend you watch her Oscar's performance of this. I think it is her best live performance ever. The song is adapted for it to be more dynamic and dramatic. Her performance is awesome.
Oh dude! You need to react to her live performance at the Academy Awards of this song, it's I-CO-NIC! The song won an Oscar that night and her date was not other than Michael Jackson! Btw this album reached #2 position at the Billboard Hot 200, that "lady" something debuted at #20 with her copy, this week LOL
Wow, I’m so glad you liked this. Madonna again delivered this in a way that is night and day vocally with her first album with perfect charm and fun. I can’t wait for your verdict on hanky panky the next track. Sublime vocals again and one of her best delivered spoken lines for a lol moment
I echo what everyone else has already said about the Oscars performance, and will also say how delighted I was to come home from work and find your latest Madonna reaction!! This song IS a vibe, and so are you! "Sooner or Later" is featured in the film Dick Tracy and Madonna's character, named Breathless, sings it in a nightclub. I love that you enjoyed the song and can't wait for your next reaction! The 1990-91 era of Madonna is one of my absolute favorites and it is so fun to relive the magic through your videos! In addition to the album, there are so many amazing performances to accompany it, from Blonde Ambition, the 1990 MTV Awards, Truth or Dare and the 1991 Academy Awards, as so many have already mentioned. An ICONIC era!! She is the one and only true Queen of Pop!
Gotta look at the 1991 Oscars performance of this. It's Madonna showing off at her finest, all live vocal, no backing or post production manipulation. She wore a white sequined Bob Mackie gown and $20m worth of Harry Winston diamonds. Technically, she didn't "attend" with Micheal Jackson because she was already there to do a run through before the show (there's rehearsal footage somewhere) but she joined him after her performance sitting next to him in the front row, and then they went to Spago for Swifty Lazars' after-party. During her bit, her microphone didn't come up from below the stage along with her so she makes a bit out of turning her back to the audience and fiddling with the microphone stand that's already there. And at the end, one of her earrings comes off and is hanging in her hair and she uses her shoulder to keep it from falling, finishes the song, and then throws it into the crowd. That's live TV for you and the show must go on.
One of my favorite Madonna songs because not only is it different in sound from her pop songs but because her delivery of the song and the song itself is so good . She always makes each song her own in every way 👑
The song was composed by Broadway legend "Stephen Sondheim. The first of 3 songs composed by him on I'm Breathless and it was featured in the film. The song was won an Academy Award at the 1991 ceremony and Madonna (dubbed the Queen of Pop by MTV at the end of 1990) briefly befriended the King of Pop himself Michael Jackson, they had a brief friendship which resulted in Madonna taking him out on a date at the ceremony which resulted in a media firestorm; they were the talk of the ceremony, the biggest stars on the stratosphere on a date. Madonna even admitted to kissing MJ around this time but he (an alleged virgin at the time) only wanted friendship. Madonna of course was making the most of this to drum up more intrigue around her and was not into him as it was reported she abandoned him during the ceremony to flirt with Warren Beatty and MJ, noticeably abandoned was rescued by his friend Diana Ross. Madonna also performed the song at the ceremony (a must watch). But this happened after her theatrical Blond Ambition tour of 1990. So you can react to the performance during this era of reactions of I'm Breathless or if you want to go chronologically, you can react after watching the tour as it happened the following year, your choice of course. PS you have to see the Blond Ambition tour, it was the tour that created the handsfree mic and created the theatrical performance on stadium tours we see today in modern pop, truly changed the game.
Nice reaction - I think you may rate it higher when you see her perform it the oscars - one of her most stellar vocal performances. Michael Jackson was her date and the song won the oscar.
Hello, with this song Madonna sang for the first time at the Oscars where she went accompanied by Michael Jackson, they were sitting close together even in the room and every time they were framed they did the same poses. The dress that Madonna wore on this occasion was recently reused by Sabrina Carpenter for the MTV Awards
There are two dresses. One was the original Bob Mackie sample which was worn by Madonna for the Vanity Fair (April 1991) cover shoot. It's slightly more silvery gray. That's the one Carpenter wore. Madonna asked Mackie to make her one which was white and that's the one she wore to the Oscars. Madonna still has that in her archives.
So when you react to the Oscars performance ( of course you will… 😂) please pay attention as Michael Jackson is at the audience watching her. Madonna took him to the ceremony that night as her date. They were working together on a track for his album that never happened. Next day the whole world just spoke about them. They were everywhere. The performance was great! And the song got the Oscars!
Reflect on the fact that 5 years apart, INTO THE GROOVE and THIS were sung by the same human being - Madonna. No one could ever convince me that she's not a great singer, which is one of the most repulsive lies ever told.
You have to watch the live Oscar performance of this one. Some of her best live vocals.
