This album is like the repertoire of a 1930s nightclub singer, encompassing everything from torch songs, swing-style dance numbers and some novelty acts, like this one reminiscent of Josephine Baker or Carmen Miranda.
This is the "Goofy" Madonna, which we love! As you said, the song is vibrant and funny. This is her Carmen Miranda moment, a legendary latina movie star. Nice reaction bro.
Quite a divisive one in her catalogue but I love it. I love every track on this album. This might be the sort of song Breathless might perform in the nightclub to switch things up. Also it might be where her head is at getting the run around from Dick Tracey.
A fun little ditty filled with playful campy silliness! The next song, "Cry Baby" is another unusual, yet playful track before the album returns to a more "Breathless" sensibility.
Funny, when I saw the short length of this song, I was almost gonna react to them together. I decided not to because the next track wasn't as short. Interesting that the next song is also playful.
@AceM-Reacts P.S. speaking of reacting to songs together, when it get towards the end of the album I highly encourage you to react to ""Now I'm Following You" Parts I and II as if it were one song (which, it technically is). One of my favorite tracks on the album!
It's a crazy and funny song...I really like in this album the versatility of Madonna's voice because she really reminds me the voices from the singers of the time the film set in, the 30s, from vamp, femme fatale to Betty Boop poupoupidou style...Like she really came into the role! I think she did a very good work with it
The production is great and the song is pure fun. As already said here the live version is better ( but you have to watch it together with La Isla as it is very goodI think it’s a mixture of Carmen Mirada with Betty Boop. 😂
She never took this song seriously... you can tell when she's having fun. That's pure Madonna silly side.

Hmmm. Now that you put it that way, I can see it.
she was doing homage to Carmen Miranda.

Thanks! Yeah, the song has a silly charm. I didn't know it was an inspired piece. That's interesting.
I love this song. It's so much fun :)

She’s channeling Carmen Miranda and being silly. You’ll see when she performs it live.

@AceM-Reacts I, for one, will be awaiting your reaction to it! Something to happily look forward to!

Girlie Show?
@@rowanmayfair9249yes that’s right.
@@dinholondres 💯 Best performance of this song, hands down. Hell, that whole tour was pure magic.
@ I agree! 🙂
Interesting. Where does she perform this song?
So far so good with this album. I have a feeling you might rate it higher overall than her previous works.
Well, it was the power of her popularity that made Hanky Panky a top 10 song - this might have been a top 10 too just based on her being a superstar.
It works better live IMO.
