Keep.us.updated with the new tent comparisons in regard to size comparisons with cloud peak 2. Also. Condensation etc plesse mate Look forward to your next trip.
Bailing out isn't a failure, never put vanity before safety anywhere you camp, wrong decisions can cost lives. You made the right decision Bro, glad you got off the mountain safely, thanks for posting.
Just watched this on the TV and had to come on the computer to comment. Just wanted to say thank you for uploading this video. The the massive amount of UA-cam campers these days, it's very easy for people to think that anyone can just buy a cheap tent and go anywhere. They make it look very easy and like nothing can go wrong. I think it's important to show the not so fun side of wild camping and that sometimes you just have to accept it, call it, and try again a different day. As you said, the mountains aren't going anywhere. Great video as usual, I'm sure your channel is going to blow up soon, keep at it. Edit to add: that's not me criticising the other youtubers, just saying they can be somewhat misleading to people who don't hike often.
Had an issue with my scarp 1 over Xmas, really strong winds destroyed it, anyway gone to hilleberg now, no doubt what most would suggest, I now have the nallo2. A really good tent is the fjallraven abisko 1 or 2, the 2 is very roomy, about same weight as the nallo2 but I couldn't get one when I wanted one. You made right decision to bail no doubt whatsoever, my tent failed at 2am I couldn't go anywhere, luckily I had my sleeping bag in bivvy bag so got my border collie in with me and stayed flat to ground till first light. Rule number 1 don't panic, I stayed put as it was safest option, you got off mountain as that was safest option. We live to fight another day. Like your stuff, keep going and keep safe pal
Thats not good to hear that about the scarp, seen a few issues lately about the scraps failing and from what i’ve seen tonight, the customer service doesn’t seem to be too great. Really liking the look of Fjallraven tents. I was looking at the Abisko lite 2 after seeing it on Bushman & Blue’s channel many times.. seems a really good strong tunnel tent, so thats certainly an option for me in the future. Thanks for watching Phil. Take care mate👍🏼
Mate, when you know, you know! Always good to trust your instincts. There’s a ton of cliches that you can use here but they’re true - walk away, come back another day. Glad you made it back down safely! 🤘🏻
Good video. I have done something similar without a tent in similar conditions. Just a water resistant sleeping bag. 6 miles of hike out at midnight. Was not easy. I always bring Soulo BL now.
Personally I think it's important to show the fails aswell as the good camps people learn more from seeing those.you did right taking your time and getting off safe.remember the mountains will always be there for another camp on another day.but I always say it's worth spending money on good gear for winter gear your life depends on it.i use the kuiu storm star for winter it's not cheap but it's a great 4 season tent.
Thats it Craig mate spot on, I’ve now invested a fair chunk on a proper 4 season tent, so as soon as that arrives i’ll be back up in the mountains! Thanks for watching mate
There's a hack to fixing zips with pliers (I have a mini multi-tool with pliers) and also zip repair kits you can get. Not ideal in the dark in winter though, especially when windy.
Did right thing , always worth planning evacuation route for every camp ,even just to pace out first 100m of exit to memory stamp if possible, even if same way you came, and take a compass bearing in the tent for direction . You took some beautiful shots of the valley ,what a beautiful place !
Yeah i’ll be honest I need to get up to scratch on the compass / map side of things. Can’t always rely on the modern tech, because if that fails i’m buggered. Was gutted the trip was cut short as i’d planned to get many more drone shots the following day. Thanks for the comment 👍🏼
@@susanroseutting2121 it’s a brilliant tent. I’ve owned a few and I’m down to this and the fjalraven abisko. I think the Durston is better in all areas if I’m being honest, but the Fjalraven has a got a 4 season inner so going to keep both for now.
I just purchased a cloud peak 2 and I put it up last weekend. I see the zippers as a weak point. Your video has confirmed my concerns. I will be selling the tent. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Its a shame about the zips because its a really good tent, i’ve had it out a number of times and its been fine but when I needed it most it failed me, which is typical. Thanks for watching 😊👍🏼
@@justanomadicguy thanks for the tip, I will try that idea. I would like to use the tent for winter camping in non-extreme environments like in the woods.
Honestly mate, the cloud peak is a decent tent. Lube the zips up and you can use at height with confidence from March till october. Alot of tents will struggle in 35 mph winds. They arent so bad if you are already set up, but hard work when not all pegged out already.
When your planning a route you should allow an extra minute for every 10 metres of altitude gained. And I carry emergency repair items like tenacious tape and even a needle and cotton don't think it would of helped you on this occasion but definitely worth a carry for a few grams. Least your good chalk it up as experience right decision.
Thats great advice, i’m gonna get some tenacious tape in my possibles bag just incase. And yes, All part of the experience. Thank you for watching and for your advice , I appreciate it 👍🏼
Cheers for sharing bud. Fellow Braford lad. I watched another video of the fjallraven abisko and that things bomb proof by the look of the conditions it took a right hammering. Maybe worth a look
Great video that shows how easily it can all go wrong. Using budget gear is OK in the summer in fine weather. Winter camping with inappropriate budget gear is a lottery you don't need to be a part of however as you so clearly showed. The winter nights are long and the risks to life are great and very real. Your video should serve as a reality check to anyone considering wild camping. Fair play to you and glad you got down safely. I think your channel has come on leaps and bounds as a result of your unfortunate experience. Long may it continue to grow.
Well what an adventure! Very lucky you came down safe. Lesson learned. You didnt only took an unsuitable tent for this conditions but you pitch your tent late before dusk. You planned your trip for 3 days and you didnt plan to pitch you re tent as soon as you could when you arrived on the spot. Always the first thing you should do is to pitch your tent and if anything failed you have time to return back in daytime.
Great video glad ya safe but please do the video on the thicker pole don't feel to bad just watched a video wiv a hillerburg and a scarp fail against a OEX bobcat have a look and feel better 👍👍
Aye i watched that mate and having just ordered a soulo BL it made me cry 😂😂😂 but i’ve since seen its probably because of a faulty DAC pole and hilleberg are replacing it. As for the Scarp failing , it was completely shredded eh !
Just wondering here, have you heard or ever run into 'Kent Survival' and 'Simon in the Bloke' at any time ? Same country but I believe they don't wander in your areas.
First time I've watched you. What a shame. It was obvious how fed up you were. All your effort and plans ruined.but you were able to stay positive and still looking forward to future adventures. Well done and thanks for the video. Regards John Mac
Thanks for watching John, yeah was pretty gutted but now i’m armed with a stronger shelter and as soon as I get the time off work i’ll be back up at the Lake District for a few nights! Take care mate and thanks for the comment
It wasn’t too windy at the summit for about half hour or so but it doesn’t take long for the weather to change very quickly in the mountains! Thanks for watching Jimmy, take care👍🏼
You did the right thing. Good thing you weren't 3 days from the car. But, yea, you know that. Its good you posted this because it serves as a reminder to others. Consider one of the Hilleberg four season tents. They aren't cheap. But in my experience they are pretty much fool proof.
Hi Robert hope your well mate, yeah luckily I was only a couple hours or so from the car and not half way through a proper long multi day hike! I’ve since purchased a Hilleberg Soulo Black Label so i’ll be back out in the next couple days! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 👍🏼
Yeah certainly named windy gap for a reason, i’ll be tackling it again in next few days but in a tent more suited to those conditions.. thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍🏼
Great video never been in this situation before, definitely the right decision made there, don't beat ur self up over the tent choice it can happen with any shelter 🤙
Aye same for me, first time having to bail out on a wild camp but deffo the right decision, didn’t fancy staying up there without being able to close the flysheet. Thanks for the comment mate
That's a shame, but you did the right thing coming off the fell... I have that tent, but I also spent silly money on a Hilleberg Akto which will now be my main tent, not an affordable tent for many, and my wife was not happy, lol... But, it gives me 100% confidence as a complete amateur that I will be safe in anything the British weather can throw at me... Nice to hear your honest assessment of what happened...
Have a Cloud Peak myself.. On taking a closer look when first pitched, could noticed how poorly designed the zips to the inner were.. Noticed how there are gaps where the zips meet. Hardly Midge proof when comes to seeking protection from the elements. They'd find their way through into the tent no trouble.
Would say it's a plesant cheap and cheerful summer campsite tent in which to securely pitch in a safe campsite in which to sit around and have few beers. Maybe suitable cycle touring tent.
Yeah I noticed the gap on the t door design, its same on the Hilleberg Soulo but they have a piece of rubber that sits over the gap.. Just watch out for the external zips snagging, but all in all its a really good tent for the money.
Knowing when to bail is an important skill. You did the right thing. No fun in ending up a popsicle trying to stick to a plan that's no longer feasible.
We had a zip failure on a new tent, not cheap either. As a storm was raging I got my emergency sewing kit out, then put seam sealer all down it and it survived the rest of our trip. The company took it back to repaired but delivered us a brand new replacement. I have now reinforced where the zips tend to fail so here's hoping. Not had chance to test it out yet. You sure did the right thing and slowly descended. Last yr up mam tor, we saw a tent strewn over the mountainside, as if someone had trouble and just lazily left it there and went home.
I’ve messaged Naturehike but they said unless I bought from then directly they won’t replace and i’ve to message the seller, which I have but no reply. Just put it down as a lesson learnt when it comes to more budget end of gear, keep them off the summits in winter. Thank you for watching Maggi 👍🏼
Right decision there Liam, shit happens m8, but when it does, you got to be logical and throw feelings to the wind. Great lesson for us all. Bonus is now it gave you a good reason to get the Hilleberg Soulo Black Label!
Thats it mate, just gotta get on with it and decide whats for the best! And yes, blessing in disguise because I ended up getting the Soulo. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@@tacush3784 do it nothing to lose bro.. download an App called Lumafusion not sure if its on android or just apple App store, think it has a 1 off cost then good to go. Thats what I use to edit all my vids on.
Good call to get off that hill, once had a tent blown flat at styhead tarn but its cheapness saved it and the pole spread out on the floor without damage but the trust had gone , tents are like relationships when the trusts gone its over , knowing when to bail is what seperates experiences from catastrophes, i also own a cloud peak 2 so I'm going to watch the video of your previous trip
I am glad you made the right decision. A hilleberg Allak 2 is probably the best but I have no experience on the mountains. someone asked me about camping on the mountains. I said no, my tents will be destroyed at that altitude. plus even hiking I don't want to do that solo (lack of experience) because the weather will change. I was in Dartmoor in Dec at a carpark near Cox Tor. I got out the car for 1 minute and that cold wind with force dropped my body temperature down rapidly. Then I knew these conditions are not for me. especially climbing up and down these condtions. I can imagine the focus you had to get down safe. plus adrenaline. shock. your body is in survival mode. As you said the mountains are not going anywhere. It is important you published this video. proof of this tent isn't up to extreeme conditions and it could be life threatening and probably life ending due to exposure. I am so glad you are safe and well. take care buddy and thankyou. God bless.
Hi mate apologies for the late reply, a few comments slipped through the net! Yeah i’ve got a Soulo BL , would of loved a Allak 2 so that’s maybe 1 for the future! Just can’t wait to get back out now and give it a test. Already had it up in the front room and the quality seems spot on 👌🏼 I have never camped at Dartmoor but would love to at some point in the future, just a long drive for me to get down there and i’ve so much of the Lake District that i’m yet still to see⛰️ Thanks for the comment buddy, hope you enjoy my future vids 👍🏼
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors I went to the lake district with my partner . I was amazed. I only go to Dartmoor because it closer. younare lucky to live near the lake district. I wish you all the best with the new tent. And hopefully a better camp. thanx for the reply. take care buddy..
@@thesouthernwoodsmanuk216 Yeah thats true, I think i’d like to go to Dartmoor at some point from watching Trev from Summit Or Nothing, love his vids and was 1 of the first channels I started watching.
I just upgraded my 30+ year old 1 person mountain hardware, great wee tent.for a Nortent Vern 2.as I now go out with my big muckle black Labrador Yelo.he done a couple of pirouette’s in the tent and plonked himself down, leaving me squashed up against the side 😂.hopefully the Nortent Vern 2 will stand me in as good stead as the mountain hardware did.👍
I’ve not looked into the Nortent Vern 2 so i’m not familiar with them so i’ll be sure to check them out mate! Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. 👍🏼
I got rid of mine after one camp, the zips were a nightmare snagged every time I opened. Nearly pissed myself when I was trying to get out in the night, snagged with the top open ended up stood up through the hole trying not to piss on the tent
The MT 900 one man trekking tent from Decathlon is tested in wind tunnels up to 60 kilometers an hour winds on a rotating platform. And only £150 quid if your on a budget. I've never tested mine personally in those conditions . And they only weigh 1.3kg
Awww i know this is disappointing and you can tell how disappointed you were but you did the right thing and some things happen for a reason you now have nan opportunity to get a much better tent for the conditions and future adventures and now you can plan and enjoy it again soon as I know it helps you so much
Aye its certainly a flaw mate, and once it happens you sort of loose all confidence in the tent knowing its a matter of time before it probably happens again lol. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment mate 👍🏼
Gutted for you about this brother!❤️ You definitely did the right thing, safety first, always. A bail is definitely not a fail! Just about to watch your new Green Gable vid🏔️
Ah man, I can't imagine how tricky that would have been descending in that weather in the dark together with being miffed off and then that drive home 😫 Well done for getting back safely. The weather here in the Lakes is so unpredictable and I imagine it would have only got worse had you stayed up there, so that zip breaking might have actually been a blessing in disguise!
Shame about the zip, had issues with them myself on my Vango, I always look for proper YKK zippers and sturdy storm flaps that don't get caught. Probably worth getting it repaired and keeping it as a summer tent, it does perform well enough in peaceful conditions. Great Gable, Green Gable are sandwiched between Windy gap, and it has it's name for a reason ha, one of the windiest places in the lake district for sure.
Thats it mate, my next tent has YKK zippers so should be fine.. yeah windy gap I never even got to go down there as that was my plan for the following day then to go up Great Gable.. but i’ll be back again, the mountains aren’t going anywhere. Thanks for watching 👍🏼👍🏼
Fair play for posting the Cockups as well as the good trips. Quality is imperative in the wild winter winds. Have you watched Bushman & Blue? He does some real extreme camps in The Lakes. Hope the new tent give you many great camps. We can feel your disappointment coming through, but as you say; they’ll always be there. I try to get over from Harrogate every three weeks or so, even if only for a day so know your pain re the fuel cost 😖
Hi mate, thanks for the comment.. Yeah seen Bushman & Blue, fantastic channel, he really puts his gear through the test! His Fjallraven tents have taken a right hammering. I’ve now got a Soulo Black Label so hopefully that serves me well on the fells for many years to come! Oh man fuel costs are horrid, and my cars not the best when it comes to MPG.. thats why I try to do multiday trips for the Lake District to just make it worth the cost of the journey a bit more.. Thanks for watching bud, all the best. Liam
Aye thats what its all about mate, and I kept it safe and went for a Hilleberg Soulo Black Label. Thanks for watching Dean and taking the time to comment 👍🏼
Bro, you did the right thing. The zip has been an issue on the Cloud Peak and like you said, it could have happened anywhere... The wind on summits is ruthless. Hillebergs are getting bent poles, Scarp Tents are having guy lines rip entire flys apart!!! Your safe, that's the main thing. I wouldn't Summit camp in winds, always find a sheltered spot lower down. With that said, good on you for making a decision and executing it, no point risking yourself for a video. 👍👍👍
Thanks bro, yeah really disappointed with the zip as its a pretty decent tent for the money. Yeah i’ve seen those videos floating about today, cant say what happened with the Scarp 1 but I can only presume a faulty DAC pole is why it bent, because i’ve seen enough Andy Wardle videos to know those Soulo’s are really good in the wind. Thanks for watching buddy
Great video (just subscribed) I was brought up wild camping in the Lakes and my first tent being Vango Force ten! i learnt a lot of lessons as a teenager. Now (54 yrs old) I have many tents My Terranova Quasar is my go to for bad weather bomb proof and totally trust it. sod the weight, it wont break! then ill piss about with my Banshee (which i do love ) great decisions made and a great after 'incident' chat great job :)
Thanks mate it seems them Terra Nova Quasar are a beast of a shelter! Like you say Sod the weight, you want something strong and reliable for the winter camps. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching and taking the time to drop a comment. Take care mate.
Some good decisions there bud. We all make mistakes. Learn from it and move on. It’s all experience in your armoury for the future. Well done, man👍. ATB - Dave
@@TheSoloSummiteer oh mate the red would of been top of the list but I decided to go for the Sand incase I do a few camps where I don’t want to be seen as much 👍🏼
@@TheSoloSummiteer😅😅 To be honest.. Seeing your red Soulo in the snow nearly swayed the decision for me but either way I cant wait to get my hands on some quality YKK zippers 😂💪🏽
You overcame the mishaps of adventure safely and learnt more than if it had not happened. Mountain weather forecasts are becoming increasingly unreliable!
Yeah I guess they can never be sure and its just a estimation and as we know in the mountains anything can change very quickly. Thank you for watching! 👍🏼
Zips are awful on the the cloud peak, main reason I sold mine. To be fair I bust one on my Fjalraven as well. Shit happens, overkill but I always take a bivvy bag as well just to be on the safe side in winter. Fair play for getting down safely in the dark. Some steep bits coming down that Ghyll into the farm.
Yeah i’d not had any issues with them up until this night, but typically had to happen when up a mountain 😅.. Yeah was pretty sketchy getting down those steep bits, really slippy as well, lots of rain so every bit of path was like a stream. Slow and steady, all part of the learning experience. Thanks for watching mate👍🏼
You did well mate, made a decision and stuck to it, for the money the CP2 is a brilliant tent but like you said its not a 4 season tent. Glad your safe buddy, don't let this slow you down, it's all experience.
Aye iv seen that today mate, to be fair i think the soulo was a faulty DAC pole and they are replacing it, did you see the email reply about the Scarp 1 ? Appalling customer service
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors god yes I did . Note the bobcat survived unscathed. See I've a macpac Zenith and it's a new Zealand 3/4, season tent . Been out in some fair winds in it in spring/summer .
I guess having the appropriate gear is important to cater for all eventualities. You never know what you're facing up there and winter makes it all the more hazardous. I've got a Cloud Peak 2 bit I'd use my Robens Starlight 2 which is a similar price but well know for being tested to withstand high winds.
Yeah time and a place for all tents buddy, i’ve not checked out any of the Roben’s tents but i’ve seen the name mentioned on the groups n that so i’ll have to have a gander! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment mate, and apologies for the late reply a few comments slipped through the net and not realised I hadn’t replied.
Just watched your vid mate. Firstly great you are safe most important. I have the peak 2 had the zip go on me. It was more my fault but it’s defiantly a weakness in the design. I took mine to a tent repair place. Cost a bit but I have a soft spot for that tent. Look forward to seeing your new tent. Just sub you. Cheers Graham
Thanks for watching Graham.. I agree its certainly a weakness in the design, when I first read that a few zips had failed I thought I got lucky with mine but that wasn’t the case as the inevitable happened! Yeah i’m still in 2 minds about what to do with mine, really want to fix the zip because it is a decent tent with plenty of space so would still like to use it lower down off the summits and in the warmer months. Thanks for subscribing buddy 👍🏼 All the best… Liam
I did a video testing a naturehike tent in high winds on the summit to show its not a 4 season tent - so regarding your damaged tent - naturehike were extremly helpful for me by replacing bent poles, might be worth dropping them a message!
You did the right thing on bailing out. I Recommend the soulo. I’ve got the red label and it’s bombproof. I’ve got an Akto as well but don’t use it now I have the soulo.
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors once you go hille you never go silly again 😂. I was gonna sell my Akto since it’s only been used three times but I think I will keep hold of it to make sure my friends have a proper tent for mountains. It’s hard to justify the cost until you own one. It’s easy to see how hilleberg is the Aston Martin of the tent world. Happy camping mate 👍🏼
Shame that mate! I was hoping to copy the thicker poles like you in hope it would stand up to the winds of the cheviots. Are you still planning on releasing the video on the new thicker poles?
I can do mate yeah, I have all the footage of me making them just haven’t edited it.. the poles were deffo stronger than standard, it was just my fault not guying the tent out straight away and getting distracted by the zip breaking.
@Good Bloke Outdoors yeah I'd still be interested in it to be honest. Assuming most CP2 owners would. If you don't where did you get them from? Cheviot winds are unpredictable and I love a project haha
@Good Bloke Outdoors Hi mate just follow up. Found the poles but what length did you end up ordering? Did you buy standard length or cut to size... Hard to measure with bend in poles I got around 3.47m
Hi mate, you did right mate 👍. How about a vango 2man tent. It's called hydra I think? By the look of it, it can take it all. Wind rain, snow. I'm saveing up for one. Hope this helps mate 👍🇬🇧
I’ve already ordered a replacement tent buddy, i’ll check out the Hydra to potentially buy in the future though, can never have too many tents 😅 thanks for watching mate
Glad you got down safe mate. I have had to abandon a couple of camps, and its disheartening at the time, but got to be safe. Is that waterproof any good you had on?
Hi mate thank you, thats it safety first bud.. and its the OMM Halo Smock but they do it as a jacket as well.. really lightweight but not let me down so far 👍🏼
Hey fella. Only just started watching your videos/subscribed. The lakes is my favourite place too for wild camping. Glad to see you made it down safely & you def made the right choice to abandon considering. I also owe the cloud peak 2 & used it a lot until about a year ago. The little niggles annoyed me too. You probably (if money is not an issue) will be wanting a Soulo? Black Label? As these are (in my eyes) the best ‘weather tolerant’ mountain tent available. However, if you are looking at something cheaper, I bought the 4 season Terra Nova Voyager as an upgrade to the CP2. It retails around £600. But I picked it up at a ridiculously cheaper price when on offer & can honestly say it has been amazing to date, it’s had some punishment over the past year, including 50mph winds on Kinder. Keep up the wainwright bagging pal (I’m currently on 161) & keep these videos coming, I really enjoy watching them 👍
Ey up pal, thanks for watching and subscribing. Yeah can’t beat the Lakes and so looking forward to getting back. Yeah it is a shame about those niggles because its actually a decent tent for the money. Yeah you got it right about the Soulo BL mate that’s what i’m gonna go for, then at least I have piece of mind that if anything was to go wrong at least i’ve given my self the best chance by having a high end 4 season tent. I’ve looked at the Voyager I think Andrew Beavers uses 1 on his winter camps. 161 wainwrights, that is some achievement mate , I think Green Gable was my 13th ( thinking back, how unlucky was that lol ) But i’ve only been to the Lake District for first time last June so i’m gonna be getting as many Wainwrights bagged as I can this year! Take care mate and thanks for watching.
ive had 2 cloud peak 2 tents and the zip went on the outer on both tents, i gave up in the end, invested in a scarp 1 but ive since sold that as i purchased the terra nova pioneer 2, i cant recommend it highly enough if you want a good idea of a good piece of kit id jump on the pioneer 2, terra nova sometimes have an offer £399 with the footprint that covers the vestibule area as well, its a wicked tent, check out our vids, you see it feature in a couple of them, 4 season as well, good solid tent and its only 1.8kg
Yeah the zips are certainly an issue, I tried messaging Naturehike just to see what they would say but they were having none of it.. told me to contact who I bought it off but they didn’t reply😅 Yeah seen a few disasters with the Scarp 1 but I think mainly due to pitching errors to be fair, and as for Terra Nova, cant go wrong there, really decent gear. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍🏼
That's what happens when you get a cheap tent. No failures with any of my Hillebergs which I started using 30 years ago after a tent collapsed in a storm. Not worth risking your life with a tent failure as you said, to save money. You did well, een others panic when things go wrong instead of being calmly methodicaly working out a plan.
In hindsight the second it snagged I should of probably just left it, but as soon as I started trying to sort it it just split open, so would of potentially ended up coming apart in the night anyway. Thanks for watching Rich, all the best
Hi mate its the Halo Shmock and I got it in size Large, i’m about 5’11 and around 13 stone as well, it fits but it does get tight if too many layers under it.
@@justanomadicguy no mate i’m happy with the Large , i just think with it being a shmock its a bit tight pulling it on if got too many layers on but i don’t hike layered up anyway 👍🏼

Thats how it goes a lot of the time on UA-cam buddy thats why I try to mention giving the vid a like on the video. Thanks for watching and hopefully Liking 😅 and taking the time to comment, its much appreciated mate.
Well done for keeping a cool head and getting off the mountain safe Liam. That was the right decision . Not sure if you are interested but i am selling an unused Hilleberg Jannu with a spare set of poles worth 200 quid so in all the shop price is approx 1,350 quid but i will take 900 for it. I only purchased it because i wanted a two person 4 season tent but it made sense to get rid of my bird and now i dont need it :) If you are interested let me know before i put it on eBay for a grand, i would rather give you first choice. No bother if you are not interested pal.
Thanks mate.. safety first and lesson learnt.. the Jannu looks a brilliant bit of kit but i’ve already ordered a Soulo BL.. ‘made sense to get rid of your bird’ 😂😂 made me chuckle that mate.. thanks for offering me first buy on the tent though i’m sure you’l sell it for really good money easy enough.
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors you're welcome Liam 👍 that BL Soulo will be sound ....I unsubscribed from Paul Messner when he got rid of his for that Rab tent........ mental!
Did you manage to fix zip, Liam? Ballsy but good decision to bail mate. No other option really. Also is you z mat from temu by any chance? Thats not a criticism btw, just seen a similar one on there
Live and learn bud, Wind was only forcast 20mph on the summit and i’ve been out in the snow and in gale force winds in this tent before and its taken it well but those bastard zips let me down mate.
Watch MCM Outdoors Destroyed. One 1000 £ tent destroyed by the wind, one damaged. Those guys had to leave the mountain in the dark too. Keep Your pecker up. Sh*t happens. I do know though that it can be absolutely frustrating.
Yeah seen those, just goes to show any tent can still fail.. the Soulo BL wasn’t destroyed, luckily it was just a bent DAC pole that costs £70 to replace, but Hilleberg are sorting Chris out a replacement for free as it was believed to be a faulty pole.. And Tony’s scrap 1 was pitched incorrectly if you watch his follow up video he explains that he made a mistake pitching it. Just 1 of those things and goes to show even the those that are experienced can have mishaps in the mountains! Thanks for watching 😊👍🏼👍🏼
I was watching another camping vid last week, and a 2 big brand tents failed, both 4 season and a £50 quid oex was ok, no probs at all. So, the cloud peak 2 maybe budget, but if you are saying it's partly your fault.... What I'm saying is, just because it's a big brand and expensive, doesn't necessarily mean you won't experience the same or different probs..
Thanks for watching Steve, partially my fault the zip failed which wasn’t my fault just 1 of them things unfortunately, but typical for it to happen on top of a mountain, and aye as for the video with the other tents, the scrap was pitched incorrectly , I watched Tonys follow up video where he explained what he believe happened and the Soulo BL had a faulty DAC pole, again just 1 of them things that proves any tent can experience an issue.. Thanks for watching again mate hope you check out some more of my vids in the future 👍🏼

@@deanwise2489 will do mate, i’ll be hitting the mountains for a couple nights this week so videos will follow once edited 👍🏼
Thanks
Thank you very much 😊👍🏼
Wow. Beastly adventure. Even with the weather...it looks SO cool!!! Love it! A bail means you need to try again! And Again! Yeah Boi!!!!
Yes have been on lowland , woods , forest , in winter, high stuff spring summer .😊
I'm sure glad you made it out okay. Like you said, 'live and learn',, we all been there. 👍
I was looking at the Abisko lite 2 after seeing it on Bushman & Blue’s channel many times.. seems a really good strong tunnel tent, so
thats certainly an option for me in the future.
Thanks for watching Phil.
Take care mate👍🏼
This happened here too - it's supposed to be 4 season. The chap got a very snarky response from tarptent

Glad your back safe bro..
Mate, when you know, you know! Always good to trust your instincts. There’s a ton of cliches that you can use here but they’re true - walk away, come back another day. Glad you made it back down safely! 🤘🏻
Love the honesty of the journeys you take good and bad in this, recently discovered your channel but really enjoy it bud! Keep up the good work!
a refreshingly different outdoor video - nice one.
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed the vid
Good to see you survived, very sensible decision to get out of there.🙏👍
Thanks mate!
Good video. I have done something similar without a tent in similar conditions. Just a water resistant sleeping bag. 6 miles of hike out at midnight. Was not easy. I always bring Soulo BL now.
Always Safety first, good decision 💯💯💯😎
Thats it mate 👍🏼 Thanks for watching
Good to see you got back safe.
Brilliant video! Helps us all with assessing safety issues. Keep up the good work!
Glad to help, thank you!
So long as you are safe that's all that matters. Love your videos keep them coming but stay safe
Oh and I just got the Durston x mid. Massively impressed with it.
Looking at getting one of these tents .
I have the cloud peak 2 aswell, i sprayed all the zippers with WD40 silicone spray and i have found it has stopped any snagging
Thanks mate good to see fellow Bradfordians watching the channel! Yeah really rate Fjallraven tents!
Glad you made it back safely mate.
Green gable is a very windy place as you've found out. Your better off staying off the summits in winter. Well done for getting off safely...
It wasn’t too windy at the summit for about half hour or so but it doesn’t take long for the weather to change very quickly in the mountains!
Thanks for watching Jimmy, take care👍🏼
Another little camping tip which may seem old fashioned is to put a few safety pins in your little bag of gadgets
Had to turn back also one time ago, can be mild down below but up top can be tornado. they didn't name it 'Windy gap' for nothing.!
Crazy taking a cloud peak up there. Failed to prepare there mate 🤦♂️
🫣😫 Aye lesson learnt mate, thanks for watching bud.
Glad you got out safe Bro 🙌 Soulo for the win eh 😁
Most definitely
Knowing when to bail is an important skill. You did the right thing.
No fun in ending up a popsicle trying to stick to a plan that's no longer feasible.
Thats true mate, sometimes just got to adapt and do whats for the best.
You did exactly the right thing, and I admire your honesty. Still a good video despite everything that went wrong.
Thank you I appreciate that 👍🏼 and glad you still enjoyed the video.
Glad you got down the mountain safely
Thank you 👍🏼 x
Safety 1st my friend well done 👍
Thats it mate 👍🏼
Right decision there Liam, shit happens m8, but when it does, you got to be logical and throw feelings to the wind. Great lesson for us all. Bonus is now it gave you a good reason to get the Hilleberg Soulo Black Label!
Thats it mate, just gotta get on with it and decide whats for the best! And yes, blessing in disguise because I ended up getting the Soulo.
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Safety first bro, glad you’re alright.

Thanks for watching Mick, yeah cloud peak 2 is a good tent for the money, just be careful with them zips buddy, take care mate
Already had it up in the front room and the quality seems spot on 👌🏼 I have never camped at Dartmoor but would love to at some point in the future, just a long drive for me to get down there and i’ve so much of the Lake District that i’m yet still to see⛰️

You did the right thing. I may get panned for this, but the Gables in stormy conditions is Hilleberg or Fjallraven territory really.
Totally agree, first thing I did after this was buy a soulo BL and take it straight back up Green Gable 👌🏼
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors ah yes. The Soulo BL would protect you in Ukraine let alone Cumbria.

😅😅 yeah those zips are a killer mate, which is a shame because it’d be a decent tent for the money if not!
Good call bro
Cheers bro 👍🏼
The MT 900 one man trekking tent from Decathlon is tested in wind tunnels up to 60 kilometers an hour winds on a rotating platform.
And only £150 quid if your on a budget.
I've never tested mine personally in those conditions .
And they only weigh 1.3kg
I’ve already ordered a new tent but i’ll certainly check these out at 1.3kg that sounds like a good summer option
Well done for showing the video. Totally did the right thing, it's important to know when to knock it on the head. We get to see you again. 😊
Thanks Steve, safety first, cheers for watching mate!
Awww i know this is disappointing and you can tell how disappointed you were but you did the right thing and some things happen for a reason you now have nan opportunity to get a much better tent for the conditions and future adventures and now you can plan and enjoy it again soon as I know it helps you so much

Exactly the same happened to me with that tent. I managed to get it zipped back up though. never used it again though. Defo not a tent for summits. 👊🏼
Thanks mush , glad it happened cos now I have a Soulo 🦾
Ah man, I can't imagine how tricky that would have been descending in that weather in the dark together with being miffed off and then that drive home 😫 Well done for getting back safely. The weather here in the Lakes is so unpredictable and I imagine it would have only got worse had you stayed up there, so that zip breaking might have actually been a blessing in disguise!
i would try the hilleberg soulo bl it's a beast! i absolutly love it!
You got it spot on 👍🏼
Shame about the zip, had issues with them myself on my Vango, I always look for proper YKK zippers and sturdy storm flaps that don't get caught.

Decent. Had a go. Keep it up, it's good stuff. What tent did you go for,?
Aye thats what its all about mate, and I kept it safe and went for a Hilleberg Soulo Black Label. Thanks for watching Dean and taking the time to comment 👍🏼
Good video mate and interesting to get your feedback on what went wrong, good luck with your future camps. You have a new sub.
Thanks Phil, glad you are enjoying the vids and cheers for subscribing 👍🏼👍🏼

@@GoodBlokeOutdoors god yes I did . Note the bobcat survived unscathed.

I guess having the appropriate gear is important to cater for all eventualities. You never know what you're facing up there and winter makes it all the more hazardous. I've got a Cloud Peak 2 bit I'd use my Robens Starlight 2 which is a similar price but well know for being tested to withstand high winds.

Yeah since owning the Soulo BL i’ve realised what a true 4 season tent is actually like, lesson learnt on this 1 i reckon
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors once you go hille you never go silly again 😂.

161 wainwrights, that is some achievement mate , I think Green Gable was my 13th ( thinking back, how unlucky was that lol )
But i’ve only been to the Lake District for first time last June so i’m gonna be getting as many Wainwrights bagged as I can this year!
Take care mate and thanks for watching.
Do you have a soundcloud or something? Cool tunes!
ive had 2 cloud peak 2 tents and the zip went on the outer on both tents, i gave up in the end, invested in a scarp 1 but ive since sold that as i purchased the terra nova pioneer 2, i cant recommend it highly enough if you want a good idea of a good piece of kit id jump on the pioneer 2, terra nova sometimes have an offer £399 with the footprint that covers the vestibule area as well, its a wicked tent, check out our vids, you see it feature in a couple of them, 4 season as well, good solid tent and its only 1.8kg
Yeah the zips are certainly an issue, I tried messaging Naturehike just to see what they would say but they were having none of it.. told me to contact who I bought it off but they didn’t reply😅
Yeah seen a few disasters with the Scarp 1 but I think mainly due to pitching errors to be fair, and as for Terra Nova, cant go wrong there, really decent gear.
Very true and Yes it was about 5 days after this failed camp I ordered my first Hilleberg and not looked back since! Thank you 😊👍🏼
Could you have left the zip snagged and tried going in the other side?
In hindsight the second it snagged I should of probably just left it, but as soon as I started trying to sort it it just split open, so would of potentially ended up coming apart in the night anyway.
Thanks for watching Rich, all the best
What size did you get that OMM jacket in mate? I am 6ft and 13 and a bit stone
Hi mate its the Halo Shmock and I got it in size Large, i’m about 5’11 and around 13 stone as well, it fits but it does get tight if too many layers under it.
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors thanks mate, would you have gone XL if had the choice again?
@@justanomadicguy no mate i’m happy with the Large , i just think with it being a shmock its a bit tight pulling it on if got too many layers on but i don’t hike layered up anyway 👍🏼
Have you contacted manufacturer ? Worth a try?. Test out their aftersales service..
Yeah they were not interested.. told me to contact who I purchased it from.. emailed them and didn’t get a reply lol
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors That's disappointing, poor service. But at least you got down ok, that's the main thing.
How come 6k people have watched this video but less than 300 have liked it.what’s not to like good hike bit of drama on the tops gets of safely explains it come on guys give him a like.
Thats how it goes a lot of the time on UA-cam buddy thats why I try to mention giving the vid a like on the video.
Thanks for watching and hopefully Liking 😅 and taking the time to comment, its much appreciated mate.
YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY GUTTED MATE. BUT A BAIL IS NOT A FAIL. DYING ON A MOUNTAIN THAT'S A FAIL.👍👍👍
Too right mate! Thanks for watching
I only purchased it because i wanted a two person 4 season tent but it made sense to get rid of my bird and now i dont need it :)
If you are interested let me know before i put it on eBay for a grand, i would rather give you first choice.
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors you're welcome Liam 👍 that BL Soulo will be sound ....I unsubscribed from Paul Messner when he got rid of his for that Rab tent........ mental!
Still a good video.
Did you manage to fix zip, Liam? Ballsy but good decision to bail mate. No other option really.
Also is you z mat from temu by any chance? Thats not a criticism btw, just seen a similar one on there
Lots of people say that the Cloud Peak is a four season tent but it really isn’t. ⛺️
I agree it certainly isn’t.
Why take a cloud peak out in those conditions.
Live and learn bud, Wind was only forcast 20mph on the summit and i’ve been out in the snow and in gale force winds in this tent before and its taken it well but those bastard zips let me down mate.
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors fare play fella great stuff .
Nortent Vern 1 😁
I’ll be honest i’ve Never heard of this tent mate but i’ll check it out 👍🏼
I was watching another camping vid last week, and a 2 big brand tents failed, both 4 season and a £50 quid oex was ok, no probs at all.
