"Stop the table talk..." 😂
You mentioned in your commentary the thought about pivoting to a road/build to 10 game rather than army which obviously worked out great here, but I was just wondering if you could elaborate on that kind of decision in general, like how to read when to abandon army when you had intended to set yourself up as the strongest OWS player. Could be a cool idea for a strategy video like when to adjust your intended win con. Nicely played in this one, hope to see you in ranked sometime!
Love this question! I think it’s a function of your options/paths available. If you have MANY ways to build points, then you need to consider if fighting army is optimal. Considering I didn’t have pacing on army and my setup was very flexible with a mono in hand, I can easily get the 2 points from the mono and focus on building the rest. I also stay out of orange’s way and not get into an army battle by focusing on build to 10. One good rule to play by is to get your production up early (port settle + city) and then let your initial devs illuminate the path of least resistance - If I pulled 2 knights, I can battle army. Road builder + VP might push me into a road style game. Mono + VP might lend me to building to 10. Hope that helps!
*Black table talking
Drew hitting him back with the facts
Black: “stop the table talk pls”
lmao
Pretty mild game from that perspective. It’s frustrating to get to 9 and lose for black but mono saved the day for me!
Black was right. Drew was literally a road away from winning.
Ignoring the mono (which is huge) they were pretty much on parr with Drew having a slight production lead thanks to better hexes.
When he said black was on 8 with road long term that was a lie lol too. If he was able to join for road (which he claimed in chat) then he would have had enough to help orange plow black which is arguably the more even outcome given orange has little to no long term road prospects.
And it's funny how Drew says Black gets a free card from wood when Drew gets a free card from sheep with less of his overall production being contributed to it lmao
For sure, he was absolutely right, but I was more commenting on the fact and hypocrisy that black was also table talking whether or not he was right 😅. Just thought it was funny
catan
so true
Never thought about it like that. Thank you for sharing!

11:25 "The 12!" *chain smoker's voice*
It’s the new 12 roll meta incoming!
Great game Dandy! Well done as usual.
The more I watch and play catan, the more I see the importance of tabletalk. Three days ago had to 1v3 a hellish game in my first IRL catan tournament in which we collectively bought all the dev cards (maybe could've citied instead of having 7 knights but the tabletalking player with 3 cities and 2VPs would've won without me buying all of them lol.) Still got the win but it was really tiring.

BloodySundae was tilted 🤣
I think this game had a great number of 3s early that let you maneuver early and then it was a clinical knock out. Well played. Who needs ows / road. Just build XD
Hey Dandy, thank you so much for your great content, I really enjoy it. One suggestion I would make, maybe include in the title that a video is a coaching video or a commentary video. I'm really only interested in the live commentary and that would make it a lot easier for me to see that a video isn't for me.
Keep it up! :)
why dont u at 18min go for longest road by porting sheep and get a single road gets u to 8 and u can mono for all the sheep and perhaps get a settlement with all these ship for u to port which brings u to 9 and maybe a dev card to bring u over the line?
❤
Hey man, do you know any tips for not getting every single one of my games hard griefed by people. Currently Plat 2 and it just feels like every single person is out to get me or teaming. Even if i dont type at all. I just get targeted.
Sorry to hear about this.
There is a fair amount of bullying going on in catan games.
But if this is happening on every single game. I think you can examine some of your tactics.
Sometimes appearing as the strongest player on the board off the blocks will make u an easy target. So you can consider some of Dandy’s tips about pacing and staying under the radar.
Early solos or plows will also make you early enemies.
Also, introducing some good vibes to the chat tends to lower the temperature of the room.
Hope this helps.
You could have won at 17:58 or am I stupid. So I didnt count cards, but if there are either 6 sheep, 6 wheat or 3 wood on the board you can mono that and settle twice and build one road right? Again, I didnt count, but one of the 3 has to be there no? Would love to know if that was the case
mono'ing the wheat obviously means settling on the wheatport then to port for wood, and respectively for the sheep
at the same time of course if you miscalculated and dont get the amount of cards you drastically reduce your chances, because you dont have that mono for later on
Can someone define what pop means in catan
