I think he accepted his fate once the ore left his hand. Very dirty mono but put me ahead significantly.
Dandy, I think it's worth talking about you buying so many devs early. Normally you say to prioritize a city but you made aggressive trades to clear your hand and pop. I think it was a really heads-up play that goes against conventional wisdom but works really well on this board.
Let's talk about it! As a general principle, I recommend building your city up first and then focus on development cards . The reason for this is that most OWS strategies benefit from the doubled production of strong cities! The reason I focused on devs is because given the make up of resources on this board, I can easily be stealing any additional ore through deals or straight up steals. If you look at my ratios, I outproduce wheat almost 2 to 1 with my ore but since there's so much overall ore production, I can find creative ways to get them. Also given the competition of army with Blue, I found it critical to pace army sooner than later then I always city on the back of my devs or steals. When I pull a mono, I am more willing to forgo the city and hammer down devs because I can easily city (or double city) with the mono on a board like this.
It's a great observation you noticed there about deving vs citying. I will also buy devs if my 8 ore is blocked as that roll is too critical to miss in this setup. Overall, knights on a explosive board like this are very helpful and in theory, the city shouldn't take me too long give all the ore/wheat production!

For sure the connect was his purpose but taking away the settle spot from me is a huge position win for the board! Tough situation to be in for him.
Green was sneakily close to longest road at the end, too
For first I was thinking 8,4,3 too but point into the center cuz it blocks those two good spots, gives you wheat, and forces two players to the coast so middle might be open for you. Might not be the BEST but definitely interesting. He pointed up though which was a big mistake as seen by the double plow lol
Maybe I'm crazy, at 23:53 couldn't you just discard the 4 sheep and upgrade the city and win?...

Hey Drew,, which rank would you say going OWS isn't obligatory? early ranks i win much more often with OWS because if i take a good flexible setup (often with a port) with early settles and cities i get robbed and blocked to death. seems this way all the way to 1500

I think you made a rare emotional mistake on the early double rob. Sure, blue made the wrong block earlier, but you didn’t even say anything in time to influence them, and they didn’t even rob from you! Why do you feel the need to “punish” someone for making a bad decision when it only indirectly hurt you, especially when the board has already punished them with the plow? Blue could easily go into revenge mode against you when you add insult to injury there. Plus, orange is in a massively better port/production situation, better to just put the pressure on them first.
I hit blue once and then hit green on my first robs - There was no double rob. I also have no issues putting more pressure on blue early since he has the best chance to fight me on devs in the short run.
