This video saved me from taking my vehicle to the dealership or mechanic. The way you explained everything was perfect. I was able to do this in about 2 hours. When you started the video with the ikea comment it definitely made me think I could do it on my own. The O-ring was shot. The hose was a little difficult to reattach but finally got it. Thank you for sharing.
Man….I know it sounds cheesy but I legit almost get emotional when I here comments like these. It still blows my mind/is incredibly rewarding seeing something I created benefit someone. Thank YOU very much for sharing this.
Thanks for the links for the parts. I called our local Ford dealership and the parts guy couldn't find the parts number. I gave him the parts number you provided and it showed up 😅 the part numbers are legit and I saved nearly $100 buying from your Amazon links than getting it from the dealer. Appreciate all you do!
Awesome man! Dealer marks them up big time. Glad the links helped. 🤙🏻👍🏻
Great video!! Straight to the point, plus really clear instructions and tips. Man keep up the good work. Thank you so much!!
You just made my day man. I try my best to make things crystal clear and easy to follow. Comments like these make it all worth it. Enjoy your weekend.
Best video I’ve seen by far with this coolant leak. Step by step laid out perfectly 💪🏾💪🏾
Thank you for saying that. I really it. 🙏🏻
All things considered, yours is an outstanding presentation of this fix. Well done! my good man.
Thank you kindly! 🙌🏻🙏🏻
Great video. Just had the same problem on my 2017 f150 5.0. This video helped a ton !
one hell of a video..how it should be done for all of us DIY'ers..perfect pacing and explanations of all clips and components..thanks a ton!
Thank you! Very rewarding hearing great comments like these. I do my best to be as clear as I possibly can.
Thanks for the video, helped out a lot. I will mention that on my evap hose (2:30 in your video), instead of prying on the clip, I pushed down on the black piece and pulled out....I spent way too much time trying to get that one off.
Thanks for saving us from headaches and showing how all the clips and clamps work. Your instruction is clear and concise! Love it. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I did this job a week back... I just ended up doing it with that hose on. I couldn't for the life of me figure it out hahaha.
@@heavyarms117 hahahah. I ended up breaking mine. Zip ties to the rescue!
Just completed this job on my ‘16 F150. I appreciate the walk through and steps you took on each of the clips. Very helpful.
My pleasure. Getting comments like these make it all worth it.
Outstanding video. One of the best I’ve seen. Thanks.
Wow, thanks!
This was an awesome video! I would have gotten frustrated and broke at least 2 of the hose clips trying to figure them out! Took me about an hour and a half. Thank you!
Thank you for saying that. Great job!
THANK YOU HOMIE!
I have no mechanical experience whatsoever. I followed your video and was able to do it alone in a few hours. If I can do this, y’all can do this!
I love it!
The most rewarding thing is being able to legitimately help someone save some serious money with a video I made. Thanks for taking the time to say this. Have a great weekend and enjoy your truck!
thanks for this! I had a small saucer size leak under the front passenger side bumper when it dropped down to 20 degrees, weather warmed up and nothing was found, then temps dropped again and same leak for a few mornings with nothing found. Pretty easy fix and you saved me a bunch of frustrations. Nailed it.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I’m pumped this video has been able to help so many people save some money. This repair can be expensive.
Made this repair today. Bought parts through the links. Other than loosing my grip on the hose full of fluid and dumping and bunch of antifreeze in the garage. It was easy. Video was easy to follow. The most helpful part is definitely the different clips and fasteners. Thanks a bunch.
😂
NICE! 🤚🏻. I’m so glad you found the video helpful.
Enjoy your truck!!
Amazing video, my oring was shot! clip removal explanation was the best part! great job. Ottawa Canada.
Thank you Sir. Sending love from 🇺🇸 Glad I could help!
Thank you so much for this video. I noticed my leak from the o ring this morning and will change it soon.
My pleasure. Let me know how the repair goes after you are done.
👍🏻👍🏻.
excellent video, im happy to see you didnt remove the serpentine belt like others did. Just woke up this morning to a puddle under my truck and no heat. after watching this video im fixing this today. thank you from New jersey my brother. Its 29 degrees outside today too🥶
I hear you man! 36 in Massachusetts. Good luck and thank you! Please let me know how you did after you’re done. Good luck!
Niiiiiice detailed 😊 explanation bro, keep this up. I was looking to change heater hose buuuuut fortunately I needed info on this too!!! Thanks fam!!
I GOT YOU! Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it.
Awesome instructional video! Just ordered the parts and can’t wait to do it myself! Thank you Sir! 🙏👍
Absolutely man glad I could help. Please let me know how the install goes once you’re done.
@@AutoHeadz yes sir! 👍
What a amazing video, thanks alot and will for sure be looking at other videos from you!! 😊
Thank you!!! Don’t forget to like and subscribe so UA-cam shows you the new ones. I have another F150 vid dropping next week.
Have a great weekend.
Just like all the other comments, you just saved me so much time and headache!!
My pleasure! Thank you for taking the time to say this. I appreciate you.
This is a great video. I have a 2015 5.0. I notice once in a while, not daily, I have a spot under my truck. I plan on doing this asap. Especially with summer approaching and having some camping trips. Don’t need a leak while pulling my camper.
Thank you for saying that. Definitely don’t want that.
Take care man!
Great Video! I noticed a heavy coolant leak dripping off the bottom of my thermostat housing (2016 150 5.0) Found your video and thought for sure mine would be leaking from the O-ring on the thermostat side of the y-pipe. Swapped it out with the new y pipe assembly you linked and put everything back together by your directions. About 5 minutes after I filled it back up with coolant , I noticed the exact same dripping off the bottom of the thermostat housing. After closer review, I found a hairline crack on my thermostat housing!! Bought a new one which came with a thermostat and both O-rings. I put everything back together AGAIN and followed your directions on how to burp the system. Needless to say, NO MORE LEAKS, and the truck is running good at normal temps! Thanks for the video!! It helped me tremendously even though my issue was a bit different. Side Note - my truck only has 73K miles. I've had nothing but issues. My starter went out a few weeks ago with no warning, I have "torque converter shutter" (tranny flush helped) but still probably need a new torque converter, my twin manel moonroof leaks, I've had to replace 3 pulleys and a tensioner, and I've experienced "death wobble" on several occasions.. It's time for a new truck!
Hey man, thank you so much for the positive feedback on the video. I’m glad I was able to help. I’m sorry to hear that about your 2016 F150 usually not as common with the 5.0 hopefully you have better luck in the future. I got more F150 content coming soon.
Be safe 🤙🏻
Did you make a video?
I’m no mechanic/technician but this was probably the best tutorial I’ve seen for this specific fix. Thx brotha man, you saved me a lot of dough.
Wow! Thank you for saying that! I’m glad I was able to help you save some 💰
Good video. Thanks for showing how the clips work. This video made fixing it a breeze.
Thanks for saying that. Glad I was able to help. I try to be as detailed as possible.
Very nice video. 2015 V8 here…Haven’t given this a go yet, but I was quoted about $900 from manny, moe, and jack so I’ll be garaging this one on my own for sure. Very useful links to the products and great job clearly explaining and showing everything. Subscribing now in hopes of some more useful info in the future 👍🏻
Thank you! More on the way I promise.
Did mine earlier this year because it was leaking. Parts were about $200 when I bought them.
Well presented, including some good work practices with the hoses, TB, intake manifold, drain c**k/hose, etc. Thanks for putting this together for the masses. 🍻 ❤ ✌
It was my pleasure. Very rewarding seeing how many people this has been able to help.
Thank you for the detailed video. Makes the job much easier!!! ❤
My pleasure! I love hearing all these amazing comments. Thank you.
I managed to get mine off alright without removing the throttle body when I replaced the water pump, but it was tight. I never would've thought to do that. Unfortunately I have this fix on my agenda so I'm going to have to try it out. This video was great for diagnosing where it was leaking from as well, thanks!!!
Awesome thank you for saying that please let me know how the install goes. Good luck, man!
Thanks for a very detailed DIY video, just repaired my leaking 2017 F150, next will be my wife's truck as preventative maintenance. Your video made it a simple fix.
🙌🏻🙌🏻
This fixed it ! Thanks! Now I need to go talk to my dealer about why he did not know this, even after charging me for a pressure test and not finding anything.
Nice! I got you man!
Thank you for your help. I am not one to work on cars...but you gave me the confidence to do this. The incentive was the Ford dealership..$4-600 is what they were going to charge. The hardest part was getting the clips off the "secondary" hoses as I was having a hard time seeing what I was doing. This took less than two hours and the throttle body was cleaned too. Next is the spark plugs.
That’s incredible man. I’m so glad I was able to help you save some dough. 🤙🏻🙌🏻 WELL DONE!
Excellent video, thanks!
By you add part number in your video you saved me $55. My upper hose had play when attached to the new aluminum Y.They said they couldn't look it up at without the part number and wanted to sell me a new upper hose.lol. I watched this got part number and saved me $55... Thanks again
I GOT YOU BRO! 🙌🏻
Did the new aluminum Y work ok?
Plan on doing a cooling system flush and then drain system. Also while throttle body is removed I will clean it, just remember to clear the PCM before you start engine then let it idle about 10 - 15 minute as it will relearn idle position then drive it about 10 mile for relearning shift points/ throttle position. Since it’s already apart makes sense to do this as well. Great video for DIY. Use the latest and greatest coolant- Motorcraft Yellow
This video is my first like ever, you are awesome!
Haha! That’s awesome. Wow! Thank you!
This video saved me $450. Dealer wanted that amount for parts and labor. I had $100 in everything even antifreeze. Step by step I followed the video and it was great! Thanks a million!!
Feels good saving people 💵 . My pleasure man. Thanks for the excellent comment.
Awesome video. I’ll be doing this same job on Saturday.
Hey thanks! Good luck! Please let me know how it goes. 🙏🏻 😃
Great tutorial! Thankyou sir!
My pleasure!
Nice, I have this issue buy wasn't aware the actual problem. 👍🏼
Glad I could help
Just finished my truck with this video thanks
Right on!
this is a great presentation! well done! very well explained thanks so much for creating this video. very helpful, so much that i liked and decided to subscribe as well.
WOW! I try and be extremely clear with my videos. It takes twice the time to film usually but getting great feedback like this makes it worth it. Thank you.
Excellent tutorial
Thank you! Cheers!
Well done, very informative. NEW SUB!
Thank you Sir!
Nice info man! Hoses looked difficult…I’ll pay for your flight 🤣
DEAL! 😂
Great video, thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video. Took my '17 F150 5.0 on a camping trip. Got to campground and saw coolant under truck. Ford dealer in nearby town had the T hose and O ring. Followed your video and did the repair in a shopping center parking lot in less than an hour. Thank you!
That’s amazing man! So rewarding hearing stories like this! I hope you had a great camping trip. 🇺🇸🙌🏻
How many miles when it started leaking?
@garrett6743 73k
@@AutoHeadz just got a 2017 5.0 with 100k miles. Haven’t noticed any coolant leaks. Maybe the previous owner already ran into that issue. Only time will tell. I am fixing to drain the orange coolant and replace with yellow.
@garrett6743 Good luck. Where do you live? May be ok if you live in a mild climate.
Great video, I'm having same issues on my 2018 F150 3.0 V6 turbo.
Did you get them resolved?
@@AutoHeadz I did as you did and it worked out great, thank you so much. If your ever in California Palm Desert I owe you some cold ones.
@@mikebigpapa6459 hahaha!! Amazing. I’m so glad it helped. Very rewarding hearing you say that. Thanks!
Around 9:15 in the video: I ended up taking the pipe off the engine. Just two 8mm bolts. My pipe looked exactly like yours. It was quicker to clean up off the engine and the gasket did not need replaced. Just my experience.
i am changing mine on friday, i’m so glad i found a video with good quality and excellent explaining. i didn’t know what to do before this video but now i feel pretty confident and have to go to the store and get some more coolant because i didn’t know you have to drain it first, also did you check the pressure after?
Thanks for saying all of that. I do my best to be as clear and concise as I can with these videos.
I didn’t check the pressure per se, I just checked the level and it stayed consistent.
I’ve had zero issues since. Good talking to you man. Let me know how the install goes after you are done! Good luck.
Great vid, ill be doing the same project this weekend on my mustang.
Thank you! Please let me know how it goes and if it was the same process as the truck. 🙌🏻
I'll see if my son can film it for me.
@AutoHeadz I made a video and posted it on my little channel. not quite as in depth but it will get the job done.
Nice dude. Send me the link autoheadzf150@gmail.com
Thank you! I followed your video and did this last night. Owe you a beer!
Fantastic! Everything go ok?
@@AutoHeadzyeah wen’t well. I used a thin flathead instead of your pick and that worked out fine.

After fully draining the radiator, mine took 1.5 gal Motorcraft yellow.
Thank you! And thanks for sharing! Happy holidays!
Happy holidays to you as well!
I forgot to add: I would recommend thoroughly checking all connections with a mirror. Even though my top hose clicked, the rear of the spring clip was not fully engaged
Great video thank you

Flawless video thank you
Wow! THANK YOU!
Did you do the fix yet?
Nice video. I seem to break or screw up every clip I touch. I’ll keep trying.
Thank you. Good luck man. 👍🏻
I Changed o-ring in top radiator hose and didn't change the y-pipe. Just changed the o-ring in the bottom connector of the y-pipe. Did not remove rubber hose from housing just twisted the hose to remove and then replace with new o-ring. $30.00 fix including Motorcraft anti-freeze.
Great vid! Thanks. What’s the stain around the oil fill? I’ve got the same on my ‘15!
Awesome video man !! Thank you so much literally just finished my 2012 f150 . $100 bucks in parts
Nice work! This one has saved people some serious dough. I love being able to save people money with a video. Very rewarding. So happy you found it useful. Take care brother.
Excellent tutorial. Clear direction with no filler. I have a 2016 3.5 V6 and have identified the Y pipe from underneath the truck. I can see the leak coming from one of the fittings so I'm pretty sure it's the O ring. Before I dive into this job, is there anything substantially different I should be thinking about considering your video is for a V8 and not the V6? Thanks in advance for your help!
Actually it looks like these are the correct parts for my model. Thanks!
Glad it helped
Great video!!! Thanks for this. How many jugs of coolant did you use?
Hey thanks! 2 jugs.
Amazing video…. Just curious how much coolant i can expect to drain out of the 3/8 hose?
This video is great. I had the water pump and thermostat replaced about a year ago. And now I have a slight drip at that upper hose connection. By your video assuming it’s just the O ring? I was about to buy the whole hose until I watched your video. So my plan is to buy the y pipe and o ring. Let me know your thoughts!
Your call man. The factory Y pipe is trash also so imo it makes sense to replace both since you are already there. I’d rather just be safe than sorry.
Just finished the job thanks for the walkthrough. Went smooth!! Did the y pipe as well.
@@Jsmithsole1 Awesome man. Enjoy that peace of mind. Good work.
Love your video got a question where was it leaking from I have the same problem but it overflows from my antifreeze reserved tank I changed my water pump and my thermostat
Thank you. I’m glad you found it helpful.
I’m honestly not sure. The O-Ring on the upper radiator hose was super flat but it looked like the coolant was leaking from the Y pipe. It’s one of those things that’s very difficult to narrow down so I would suggest doing both while you are in there.
My coolant leak is located on the Drivers side turbo on my 2015 3.5, found this procedure when I was searching.
I have a 3.5 liter and have the same issue I wonder if it’s just a Y hose replacement or if the whole part comes connected with the 3 lines
also after taking the y pipe off clean the attachment to the engine. I had scaling there and I suspect i had seapage there as well
Great video you should have got some throttle body cleaner to that was pretty dirt to
Great idea. That video will be coming soon.
Perhaps he was just keeping us focused on one repair at a time
Got to stay on target.
Got any videos on how to get the air out of the system I heard you lea e the cap on an hold the rpm at 3500 for 30 seconds a few times just did the heater core hoses well ford's calls it heater assembly
@blainemcdonald6972 well if your coolant is drained you can kill to deer with one bullet
I changed my y pipe this past weekend, (great video by the way) but after a few days did you still have to add coolant? My truck keeps dropping below the minimum level on the reservoir tank and I don’t see any leaks whatsoever. Just wondering if you had to fill yours periodically as well. Thanks!
Thanks man!
Yes. Check every couple of days and add as needed.
I had to add a little bit more a day later and then I was good to go.
Does anyone know if this y pipe is the same for the 2014 5.0?
Do I only need 1 gallon of coolant to do this job? The guy at the shop said the coolants could not be mixed and I would have to flush it? Thank you! Great video btw feeling very confident!
Yes / Depending on how much you have already lost and will lose after removing the pipes.
Totally fine if a little of the old coolant mixes with the new. It’s the equivalent of mixing Dasani with Fiji water….one is a little better, but at the end of the day it’s still water.
Please let me know how it goes after you are done!!! Good luck! You got this 🤙🏻
Can I mix tap water with the coolant?
@@pro4x99absolutely not
O thought about taking this out and puttingba brass T in
Hey there, I have a coolant leak on my 3.5 eco 2016. I can’t find any videos that support a fix for the leak. Would this be the same process despite having the turbos?
Yes sir. Same process. Slightly different piping but almost the exact same.
I have a 2015 V6 eco-boost. Do you have a video for that or would it be the same?
It’s almost the exact same. The piping is a little different.
Hi, the plastic ring that sits on top of the rubber o-ring is called what?
Think it would be fine to have a regular hose clamp on the upper y tube?
No it wouldn’t unfortunately. That clamp in specifically designed to hold down tremendous pressure. A normal clamp would most certainly fail IMO. Hope that helps.
Did this, and replaced the thermostat on my 2012 Mustang gt coyote but when I added the coolant and followed your instructions to the letter the coolant didnt go down??? Is that a problem? It did slowly drop after refilling intially. I mean when I drained it a gallon came out. And a gallon went in. Figure I'm good. NOTE: Dont overtighten that plastic drain nut on the mustang that bad boy will crack right off. Lol.
Should be good then man. My only advise would be to check it a couple times over the next few days.
Can I mix tap water with the coolant?
You should have cleaned the throttle body while you had it off
I too have a coolant leak, I don’t see where from though. After a day of driving I had to add about a gallon of coolant. I did check my oil and dip stick and oil seems clean, so I don’t think it’s a head gasket issue. Maybe this is the issue and I just haven’t caught it actually leaking?
Most likely the Y pipe.
@@AutoHeadz I appreciate it man. Great video btw!
your link brings up 15 sizes of drain hose. Which is the right size?
3/8ths inch. amzn.to/45YMZgy
Was the Y fitting part been upgraded to metal? I called O'Reilly's and they gave me part number 626-541. It looks the same except its metal. Thanks!
That is the non OEM version. I wouldn’t recommend it. Link for Ford OEM here amzn.to/47BsmGD
@@AutoHeadz Thanks! I ended up going OEM after reading bad reviews on the metal version. Great video!
@jessedemooy5818 Good choice. The OEM version is specifically upgraded to fix this issue. Enjoy!
How much coolant did it require to fill back up, just the one jug?
3 gallons was enough for me to get it topped off because of the remaining coolant in the system. I would buy 4 gallons to be safe but 3 will most likely do the trick.
The whole system holds around 5.5 gallons. A good portion of the coolant will remain, even after you drain.
Did anyone else have trouble reconnecting the radiator hose back to the y pipe? Mine just won’t connect with the new o ring.
Have tried both the Ford part and aftermarket.
My 3.5 raptor is leaking coolant as well is it the same process?
Same. Mine just started leaking today. Dropping out under my skid plate
Where is the part list I need to do this on my truck? And how much do the o ring cost
All in the description and first comment.
Knowing the v8 f150 has the same motor as the v8 Mustang would you say this is the same o ring as well because my coyote literally is leaking right where the T pipe is so I’m thinking it could be the o ring as well
Most likely yes. Click the link in the description and there is a place to put your vehicle make so you can verify on Amazon.
@@AutoHeadz sounds good confirmed it’s the same 😀 thank you for this video
@@Princeinna5.0Awesome man! Let me know how it works out when you are done so I can share it. Good luck!
does this only apply to the v8? I have a 2017 2.7L and I'm losing a bit of coolant.
Almost exactly the same.
How many gallons of coolant would you recommend? I’d imagine a full change would be 1-2 gallons?
That’s correct. I purchased 2 gallons and only had to fill 1.25 - 1.50 gallons to be at max fill. Try and use the new OEM stuff Ford released. amzn.to/49wI1J4
@@AutoHeadz wow thanks for the fast response! I was planning on getting the new stuff anyways cause I’ve heard the same stuff. Thank you!
@@austinevans8617 Anytime man.
Is there a reason you did not clean the varnish from the throttle body
I didn’t want to change the direction of the video. It’s a great time to do it but the video wasn’t about cleaning the throttle body if that makes sense.
Can you replace both o rings instead of buying the Y pipe ?
Yes…BUT there is a possibility your issue could be the Y Pipe itself and not just the O Ring. Very difficult to know for sure.
I personally wasn’t going to risk guessing so I did it all.
If the plastic Y-pipe is not cracked, then you know the coolant leak is caused by one or both of the O-rings being worn out.
This coolant leak Blew up my head-casket and ford should be responsible for his defect should be a recall
Yup! That’s why I tell people. DO THIS ASAP as preventative maintenance. So sorry to hear that.
How does the o ring “flatten “? Is the coolant acidic?
No. It’s the fluctuation of high temperatures of the coolant over time.
The heat and pressure
I had mine replaced by my mechanic anf for the most part its fine. But every so often my coolent tank is extremely low but i dont see coolent leaks where i park.
Be careful man. If it’s low it’s leaking. I would definitely take a second look.
@@AutoHeadz For me , it mostly happens when the temperature fluctuates. I come from the midwest where we have bad winters and bad summers. It only leaks or dispears then. At this point it's just common for me to have coolant on hand just in case. But I'll have to keep a better eye on it and double check the stuff
@lastgengamers1137 guarantee your O-rings are flat. If you look at the video, you’ll see mine are completely flattened out when it gets hot or too cold the coolant will easily be able to pass by the O-ring. That’s definitely your problem.
@@AutoHeadz I definitely rake a look when I have more time to be under the hood. Thanks for the fast responses.
Love this truck but man does it have some the dumbest smallest fixable things that go wrong.
@lastgengamers1137 I feel the same way. I just had to replace by PCV valve and before that I had a range sensor die on me. Seems like all the trouble starts happening around 80k miles.
