    I'm never buying the eco again. I know the 5.0 has some issues but I have tried so hard to do all the right maintenance and any repairs needed as soon as they pop up. Well the truck has already needed a water pump and now both turbo coolant fittings need replacing. It only has 70k miles on a 2014. Not to mention all the other typical ford problems like water leaking into the cab from 2 different places. I have a shitbox early 2000s nissan and it never leaked anywhere. idk I love buying American but we used to earn it with quality product. Doesn't seem to be that way anymore.

      I've been leaking coolant for 25k over 5 years always said screw it. Just found out the coolant dripping out of the quick fitting off the reservoir (if that's where your leak is like mine) can cause problems for your driver side turbo 😬 just moved up on my priority list.

      I don’t remember why I was watching an EcoBoost video, I have a 5.0. I have fixed all my leaks for now. The water pump was making a lot of noise but only leaking a tiny bit. The block heater was the big problem, I installed a new one and that pretty much fixed it. I also replaced the upper and lower hoses, the y pipe, water pump, idler, both tensioners and belts, oil cooler, the O ring at the overflow bottle, the oil pan gasket, spark plugs and an air filter. It’s like a new truck, that is if new trucks had rotted out rockers.

    I have a 2019 expedition, has a slow leak, so slow I can't tell where it's coming from. Now that I have some ideas I'll go looking for it and get it done. Replacing the radiator fan assembly while I'm at it, the driver side was all of a sudden very loud and I found that the fan itself has some shaft play, I'm guessing it's causing a vibration and loud jet engine sound bc of that play. Might as well Geterdone

    LOL... anybody else pick up he said "Stealership"? Firstly, awesome video and explanation and appreciate your time to help others. Cam Phaser replacements are your life huh? I've had them replaced twice on my 2018 F150 at only 80,000 miles. Got home today with a water "gusher" coming from the front of my engine @ 84000 miles. Haven't yet confirmed but suspect water pump. Noticed in your links to parts under the EcoBoost recommendations it states "Sell it". Pretty sure that's what I'm going to do. Done with Ford. Up side is it is a Gen2 so not the hassle to change out WP as with the 11 - 16s.

    bro its like you are in my head because i was just looking for my coolant leak yesterday. mine must be hitting my ehost because you can smell it when its hot. i also noticed coolant near my oil pan. so maybe its going down the turbo line onto the oil pan? also some googling pointed towards maybe the heater coil? i smell it most when the heater is on.

    Mayson….I noticed that your the 2nd Ford dealership tech that has an Amsoil sticker on your tool box. I’m pretty close with a local Ford dealership tech in my area, and recently I’ve been talking to him about my 2019 F-150 with the 5.0. I asked him for his thoughts regarding the proper oil to use in it, because as we know Ford recommends motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend….which is what I’m currently using. I’m in the Houston area and with our hot humid climate and stop and go traffic….he recommends to use nothing but 5w-30 synthetic blend or pure synthetic at the minimum. He then preceded to tell me that he personally only uses Amsoil in his 23’ mustang GT with the 5.0 coyote motor and that his 5.0 is absolutely silently quiet at an idle. Before he switched over to Amsoil he was using the factory recommended Motorcraft synthetic blend oil….but after he switched over to using Amsoil….his 5.0 became noticeably quieter. So I would like to ask - what’s your thoughts & experience using Amsoil?

    • @ivanvarela3215
      @ivanvarela3215 4 місяці тому +1

      Synthetic blend is not as good as full synthetic. Also, I recommend doing oil changes at around half the stated mileage in the owner's manual, quote Dave Auto.

    • @ivanvarela3215
      @ivanvarela3215 4 місяці тому +1

      Also using thicker oil damages the engine a lot more when you start it up. Use the factory oil weight of 5W20.
      The advice of using thicker oil does not apply to engines made in the lasts 35 years, it's advice from the 1960s. Don't crack good blocks like my dad would.

I just put dye in it tonight but I couldn’t see anything leaking? Any ideas?? This is my family vehicle and I couldn’t be regretting getting rid of the highlander any more at this point. My truck is in for the turbo fitting repair. Do most ford dealer shops replace the other fittings, lines oil supply filter without being told? Or do you have to be specific when bringing truck in? I tried mentioning to the counter service guy. He didn't seem to be listening to me and not be very informed. I watched your video and want all the nearby parts fixed while they have the engine torn apart. I understand alot of customers think they know everything but it seems not all ford techs or shops are the same. Wish I could bring my truck down to you! Not looking forward to paying thousands for a coolant leak.

    I do not have the EcoBoost. Just the regular 3.5l V6 and mine is weeping from above the water pump, the Y pipe on mine is metal. The hose connects with regular clamps, no O-Rings or snap fittings, and the coolant stain is coming from under the area of the intake above the water pump and below the throttle body air hose. Any thoughts?

    Imagine burying a weak link like a water pump into an engine like that. Yeah pump cost $146, but it cost you $10,000 in labor. Stupid. an absolute shame that you have to tear any truck down that far, I don’t care what anybody says it’s all by design that’s how they suck it back into the dealership so the average guy who doesn’t have a lift can’t do it.

    Great information Mason, but these costs are exactly why people are leasing vehicles, instead of purchasing them. As a mechanic I agree with you but broke as$$ people can't afford to dump $3000-6500 into their vehicles which is about 50% of the value of the vehicle. This said if you don't have extra money or wrench yourself get the naturally aspirated V8.

    I have a question, based on your knowledge I believe I have a leak coming from the turbo lines but the slow dripping looks like oil is that what it it? And can I still drive it or it has to be immediately fixed?

    • @DarthJuice-pj7kp
      @DarthJuice-pj7kp Місяць тому

      Ford uses both oil and coolant for the turbos on a 3.5 Ecoboost so it's entirely possible that it could be oil dripping. As for safety, as long as the leak is relatively slow and you keep the fluids topped off, I see no reason why you couldn't keep driving it.

      @JohnnYp1234 would love to hear how this turned out for you. I noticed the same phenomenon on my babied 2015 3.5 EB (56K miles) and found out the passenger side turbo blew up along with a cracked exhaust manifold (same side). It burned oil like crazy and dumped huge amounts of oil into the exhaust. All this after a cold start on an extremely cold morning.

    • @JohnnYp1234
      @JohnnYp1234 5 місяців тому +1

      @@kylel5752 well... I never really looked any further into it. it was just always something I noticed. notice it more in the winter than anything. I'm pretty good about keeping an eye on my fluid levels so I don't see any coolant or oil disappearing. so at this point i'm kinda just writing it off as steam from moisture in the exhaust system. i did recently have a driver side turbo replaced due to wastegate rattling. they never reported to me that they found excessive oil in the exhaust or not. seems to still be smokey / steamy on cold starts.

    I'm a Marine Tech but usually do all my own auto work. I recently got a 2011 supercrew with the 3.5 Eco (167k). Carax shows it had a Timing Job and W pump about 20k ago. I'm torn down now and awaiting an alternator. Fenderwell lining is out too. Ive had a smell coolant leak but no visual anywhere. Turbo's are dry. I reached up behind the left cylinder head and? You guessed it, coolant line was soaked. My fearfull question- Is there enough access to change that fitting ? Maybe with the intake and V covers off? I also have leaky V covers anyway and thought if I need to pull the intake, I can also clean my exhaust valves. Thanks, Glenn
