Absolutely delightful to see and hear your mum reading 'To a Mouse' ~ we are so lucky to be a part of your world and hear aloud the speaking and translation of the Old Scotts language. So much joy! So much love ❤🥰✍📖
I was very excited to have the chance to listen to your mom again this year read and explain another Burns poem!!
Thanks for vlogging at the end of January!
Thanks for the mention. Glad you like the calendar and cards 😀😀😀
Always happy to see a vlog from you especially if they have your Mum reading Burns and some delicious haggis! What’s not to love xx
So nice to have you all back Ali 🥰 The book mark choosing was fun. What a treat to have a week of vlogs xxx
Looking forward to a week of vlogging! Great video as always x
Thanks Jo! Aw 😘
Love the chicken bag xx
What a timely poem. Robbie Burns was a man ahead of his time. And I learned something. I always thought it was a line from Shakespeare " best laid plans of mice and men". Please thank your mother for her reading.
I will say thanks to her...although she may sometimes read the comments too 🤗 Thanks Karin xx
Please thank your mum for her reading. I have been looking forward to this all week and it was worth the wait! I don't know if you have done a DNA test or if you're only building a tree, but I would love to see a video of what you have found. You mentioned in a previous video that fiber arts go back a few generations. I find all things genealogical fascinating and would love to hear more about your discoveries if that is something you are comfortable sharing. I DNA tested with Ancestry and uploaded my DNA to every site that would allow me. I recently discovered that my maternal Scottish DNA comes from the highlands. And through Ancestry I have discovered paternal of Irish origin second cousins living all over Scotland. Thank you for the weekly vlogs in the middle of what I consider to be the bleak midwinter in Nova Scotia, and a belated thank you for Vlogmas. ❤❤❤
How wonderful to have you along on my Sunday morning. Your mother is a love. Loved your sunshiny face in this rainy, windy morning in midtown Manhattan NYC
Lovely to know we have a daily vlog from you this week. I'm a bit stressed so need some nice gentle brain distraction! We had veggie haggis this week, delish with a roast dinner 😋, so much so, I put another one in the freezer for later 😊
Love your surroundings, when you walk. Glad, you're vlogging again.
Thank you 😘
So excited I’ve just ordered a chicken project bag 😊The power of youtube😂
Aw! That's so lovely to hear, I love buying from small businesses and I am honestly so thrilled with my little bag - already have a sock project inside! 😄
I am so glad you are doing vlogs. I always enjoy your vlogs so much. The whiskey sauce looks yummy. I always love hearing your Mom read.
Thanks so much Mel! x
Thanks!
hello Ali! Your wintery vlogs are a much needed respite from this hell of a summer we're having. It's been 38°C since Jan 19th and I tell you: I can't cope. I'm delirious. Dragging myself around like an ameba. Anywho... just today I got a letter from a London friend and he was quite disappointed that the king isn't wearing the crown on the stamp. I've received quite a few letters with the new stamp on, since mid 2023 I reckon.
Love your mom’s Burns readings! I turned 40 on this year’s Burns’ night 😅
I’m so happy that you’re vlogging this week! Thank you for sharing your day with us ☺️💛
This is what happens when I "have ideas" 😄 Glad you're joining me for this week :) x
Really love your mum's readings in your vlogs. We had Haggis soup for Burns night from "A soup for every day" book from the New Covent Garden Food Co. Its effectively neeps and tatties cubed and cooked in a broth, served with cooked Haggis which you put in the bowl first. I have to try the Whisky Sauce at some point!!!
Loved hearing your mum reading Burns! Always a treat. :-) And thank you for the whiskey sauce recipe. We're having a late Robbie Burns dinner with haggis and I've never tried that sauce. Looking forward to it! Lovely to see you pop in! I also love January and watching your vlogs will make it even better. Cheers!
Hurrah - a fellow January appreciator! 🤗 Hope you enjoyed your haggis and the sauce! ❤️
@@ThisLittleWonderfulLife *whisky - autocorrect should know better! 😅
Great to see your mum doing the Robbie Burns night!!!!
Great you are still walking !!!!
Great chicken bag that was made !!!!for you!!!
I have one that opens like that !!!love it so much and my friend made it!!!!🎉
Elaine ❤
Ah you have a very clever friend Elaine! I just love how it opens out so wide and you can see everything inside 😃 Thank you xx
What a treat, a week of vlogs to look forward to, thank you Ali. Regarding the decluttering process, it was Dana and Dawn (the minimal mum) who set me off on my decluttering journey. The container method works well, just remember to put your most wanted/treasured items in first so it is easier to let things go that don't fit. I also read, or maybe watched, Dana speak about Swedish Death Cleaning and that also resonated deeply. I'm not a minimalist by any stretch of the imagination but I now do not bring anything into the house unless it has a specific purpose. It is so freeing mentally and so easy to manage the home and keep it clean and tidy. See you tomorrow. Much love xxx
This a wonderful treat... Thank you ❤. Watching Dan at the very beginning and him grinning away with his bookmark made me 😊 too. Lovely of your mum to read and explain the poem to us. Indeed Scottish sound very foreign to me, and without your mum's help, I couldn't make head or tail of the poem...Loving all the presents you received especially the bag. Enjoy them. Have a nice week Ali and family ❤❤❤❤
I can’t believe that January, my favourite month too, is nearly over. I’ve achieved so much this month so I’m just going to pretend it’s January for another month!! 😂 xx
How wonderful to spend some time with you on this dreary January Monday. Loved the poem - your Mum is simply fantastic!
Thank you so much Nadja! Lovely to see you here! xx
Yeh for a few daily blogs. Miss blogs after new years
So good to have you back! Blogmas had me spoiled! 🐓☕️🐔📚👛👟🍄🐈⬛🫖
So great to hear your mom reading , love it . Thank you 😊
It's such a nice surprise to be treated to a week of daily vlogs in the New Year. I have been loving January, too! It was lovely to hear your Mom read the poem! I liked her red nails! ❤ Loved those handmade bookmarks and your socks!
I love to eat the center of the broccoli stalk. My family and friends think that is strange. I enjoy your daily life vlogs!
A week of vlogs, this has put a smile on my face. Thank you x
I am so glad! Thanks for joining me Hannah x
Dan, "this is my mug"! 😄
Haha, he makes laugh 😄 ☕️
@@ThisLittleWonderfulLife Me too!
There was a poem at the end of an episode of All Creatures Great and Small, I thought to myself I bet that a Burns poem and I was right. I would not have known that if it wasn't for you and your mum. Thanks for furthering my literary education! 😂
It is always such a treat to listen to your mother read. Thank you for sharing. ◡̈
What a treat -a week of vlogs! Yay! ❤
What a lovely surprise!! Great way to start my week. 🙂💞🌻🦘
I always love listening to your mum’s readings and your dinner looked yummy. The bookmark choosing was interesting, not quite how you predicted 😊
Well Ali that has just made my week! Spending time with you, doing what ever 😊 might have to check out the book on decluttering, did such a lot last year but need to begin again, need all the encouragement I can get 😅 been unwell for a few weeks now but when I feel stronger I will start. Always a pleasure to hear your Mum reading, and Dan is a “Hoot” 😂 where was Mia? Snuggled somewhere cosy. Love & Hugs, Suze. 🥰🤗 xxx
Thank you Suze! Hope you are feeling better now? Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it ❤️ Mia was asleep under Phoebe's bed! Expect appearances from her this week though 😺xx
yay! daily vlogs! what a lovely surprise! Congrats on getting the bookmark you had your eye on.
Loved hearing your mum read Burns! Such a treat! And I’m excited for the week of vlogs:)
Always a treat when your mum does a reading 😊 I hope Lillia is soon zipping along the backroads 🚘
Such a relaxing video! Loved your mum explaining "To a mouse". Watched it with my mum and we both enjoyed it.
I was so pleased to see another vlog so soon and loved it all! THEN your mum’s poetry reading with her explanation - such a treat! Now looking forward to your vlogs this week 🥳
@8:05 - My oldest friends name is Peggy Sue, named after the Buddy Holly song. 😊
Ooooh lovely - I was hoping your mum would read a poem. Please thank her very much. It is a treat to look forward to in January. Also, a super treat to see you here this evening. I was getting withdrawal symptoms from all the wonders in December. I also walk every day and feel the benefit mentally and physically. See you soon ❤
Such a beautiful walk! Have a great week! I’m glad you got the mushroom book mark!🍄
Yay for more daily vlogs!!!! Very happy person over here 😃 love the t-shirt you're wearing while cooking! x
What a treat to have a vlog each day from you this week 😊 Thank you. Your dinner looked amazing so I’m just about to check out your recipe 😘
Love hearing your mom read and explain the poems. I'm a whole mix of things but Scottish is a good chunk.
Thank your mom for her reading of Burns' poem. I look forward to it every year.😊 thank you also for another week of vlogs.
Love watching your clogs Ali, was a lovely surprise having one today, and all next week. Love haggis we had it on burns night. Hearing you Mum reading the poem made me think of when we were in Dumfries and look round his house there. Xx
Ooh my best discovery so nice to see you back xx
Ooh Ali missed you xx
Love your vlogs!!! Thank you for keeping me company and taking us along on your adventures!!! Love from Tennessee USA
Thank you so much 😃😘
Yay for a week of vlogs! Your cooking footage reminded me to let you (and Dan) know I finally tried Dan’s Salmon and Noodles and my husband and I just loved it. Thanks for another way for us to enjoy salmon!
Yum! I love those sesame flavours! 😋
Love when your mom reads for Burns night!! Thanks for the vlog!!❤
Aw thanks Colleen! xx
Great job mom. You are looking beautiful. Thank you❤
Thank you, Ali, for vlogging this week!! I loved hearing your mum read the George Burns poem and i love that she explains it! Because tbh, if she didn't, i wouldn't know what she was talking about! 😅 Thank you for sharing!! 🥰😘
Another treat of Mums translation of Robbie Burns poems thank her
Well who would have thought Dan the man ending up with pink book mark glad you got the fungi one 👍
The haggis whiskey sauce looked delicious 👏🏻👏🏻
Loved the poetry and interpretation! I'm going to think of it in future as 'The Mindful Mouse'. Thanks for all your lovely vlogs. 😊
Thank you so much for a lovely vlog. Absolutely loved your mum’s reading, thank you for sharing her with us. 👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you ☺️
What a pleasant surprise!!
Thank you for the lovely glimpse into your January life. I enjoyed your mother’s reading/explanation of “To A Mouse.” I’ve always heard the famous line as “best laid
plans”, but I like the original “schemes” much better. I have a bit of Scottish heritage myself, and I enjoy learning about the culture.
Glad you enjoyed it! I always love hearing the old Scots and what it means too :) 🐭
Ooh a week of vlogs.. yay!! 🥳
Pheasant
Thank you! x
Oh dear, move here to January freezing temps and snow and driving in it( or worrying about the "kids" driving in it lol and that will cure you from loving January 😁. Glad to have your vlog today Sunday, I'm recovering from Covid( got from work naturally) so knitting and your vlog and tea very nice! Enjoy these last few days of your favorite month.
Lovely vlog. Your mum is fabulous ❤
🌱 thank you 🌷
Lovely vlog. Looking forward to a week of vlogs❤
Thanks mum for the lovely reading! Your dinner looked amazing
Thanks, Ali. Looking forward to the rest of the flogs. x
Thanks Pamela! 🥰
Lovely to see you! So glad that you decided to do a bit of January vlogging. Please would you tell me what pattern you used for the red scarf/shawl with the scalloped edge that you wore? It is just so pretty. I tried to find it on Ravelry but no luck. Thank you in advance very much! 💖
Your Mom is so precious!! Love her readings!!!
He was quite the philosopher was our Robert…. John Steinbeck even stole a quote from this poem for the title of his book “Of Mice and Men”, although I do believe he acknowledged where he got it from. My late husband many years ago at a family Burns Supper in Australia, read out this poem, but accidentally turned over two pages and finished up with a verse about the toothache… and nobody noticed! 😂 (I think maybe one too many whiskies had already been consumed) 😅
Whisky glosses over everything 😂 I never realised how thoughtful this poem was until my Mum translated it! And yes of course - Of Mice and Men - my dreaded GCSE text! xx
@@ThisLittleWonderfulLife yes, he was a bit of a rebel and a Socialist too. There are many “not so hidden” messages in a lot of his works. 😉
Oh yay! A week of vlogs!! I see others have mentioned - Dana K White is A Slob Comes Clean. She teams up with Dawn from The Minimal Mom and another lady who I can’t remember her name right now - but they offer a course called Take Your House Back. It’s good. Also Swede is turnip in Canada anyway.
Hello Ali I'm also reading the Lost Bookshop and really enjoying it 😊 We love watching your videos and it seems a few of my close family seem to share some of your family birthdays too... Must be destiny I came across your channel 😊
I have to say I enjoyed it more and more, I finished it today and immediately went to see if the author has any more books! She has a new one coming out this summer. I'll definitely read more from her! So happy to hear we have things in common 🥰
Yeah you got the book marker that you wanted 🎉 Also a Sweed ? Is a Rutabaga or turnip in Canada depending on the size . Please thank your mother for reading Robbie Burns I really enjoyed it ❤
Thanks Christina! I am glad you enjoyed it! A swede is a Swedish Turnip (hence the name) but is indeed called a rutabaga elsewhere, and in Scotland it's called a neep - it has a tough skin and yellow flesh. Not to be confused with the smaller white turnip, which has white flesh and is a lot smaller :)
Enjoyed seeing you in a video …. I recomend two books you could get on audio they are a series of two but the first is New beginnings at wildflower lock by Hannah Lynn and such a good book and then I finished the second Coffee and cake at wildflower lock … I really enjoyed them …. I would love it if it was cold 🥶 here but it’s hot 🥵 and I hate heat ☹️…. autumn 🍂 and winter ❄️ are my favourite seasons …. Love listening to your mum read ❤… I have Scottish heritage way back 🏴 and I went to Scotland and Edinburgh a few years ago and loved it ❤ …. 📚💞📚
Hello from snow-covered, Northwestern (lower peninsula) Michigan. Being of Scottish descent, I always enjoy hearing your mom read some Robbie Burns, I've heard it pronounced differently, but I like Robbie. Like I've said before, I pretend that I'm listening to my Great Grandmother. Since I never met her, she was from Dumfries, so I use your mom as a stand-in, I hope you don't mind. The food looks wonderful. Thanks for the video. XXXXX
Aw thanks Mandy! Of course you can borrow Mum as your stand in ☺️😘
Maybe you know this already, but Dana K White also has a UA-cam channel. 😊
Thank you to your mom for reading "To a Mouse" by Robert Burns in the old Scottish. I knew of the saying "best laid plans ", but had no idea it was from a poem by Robert Burns.
Oh I get really confused with speed zones too, they change so frequently sometimes I'm not sure which zone I'm in anymore! 35, 30, 45,55,50 drives me crazy. I got stopped doing 55 in 45, where I got stopped was before the end 45 sign, so when the deputy asked if I knew why I was stopped I pointed out the sign and said I do now! He let me go whew, it was an area I wasn't familiar with and when I mad a turn onto the road I didn't see any sign to start with.
First I want to tell you My B day and yours are the same cool your Sisters B day same as my Sons who Sadley passed away b 4 Years now..Your socks r great and your Moms reading i really enjoyed..love her accent.. Take care B safe all off you. Chgo ill.
I am so sorry for your loss Therese ❤️ What a coincidence that we share a birthday and my sister share's your son's xx
So glad to see you guys back it's like spending time with a good friend.im going to try to make the blanket but I'm not sure how to read the instructions for English. would you have any ideas for me.thankyou very much.
It was 22C here last week, and I was highly annoyed about it. It’s freaking January in upstate Maryland, it’s supposed to be cold!
Honestly, if my books don't all fit on my bookshelf, I'm gonna buy another bookshelf 😂 I'm terrible at decluttering but then get stressed with the mess!
Sorry Ali, pressed the thumbs down button instead of thumbs up by accident 😳 Have pressed thumbs up too. Lovely to see you again, and looking forward to a week of vlogs xx
Oooops! Don't worry, I never look at the thumbs down 😅 Thank you! ❤️
Have you ever looked for your family history on Family Search? I recently rechecked mine as I finally have a grandchild interested in my Scottish heritage. Someone has updated the history of the Jamieson side right back to the Gunn’s in the 11th century. It is fascinating.
Hi, love the bag, ahve you seen the Emotional Support chicken that everyone is knitting.? I made one,so cute. Alex at My Yarny Corner has done one.
Ha ha - the only speeding ticket I have ever got was when I was doing 43 in what I thought was a 50 zone. It was a 30 zone. oops.
Wonderful reading from your mum….many thanks to her. ❤
Very much enjoyed it….and your whole vlog. Love haggis with whisky cream sauce. Yours looked delicious Ali. 👍
Thank you so much! It's very indulgent that sauce but delicious...and slightly scary burning off the alcohol 😅
Hi Ali. Ooh your burns night supper looked delicious. About to eat ours a few days late 😊
Hope you enjoyed yours Sarah - your dinners always look so delicious! x
I’ve just download ed the emotional support chicken pattern as I have no chickens in my life.
🩲
Diana White along with her books has a UA-cam channel you might enjoy.
MayI ask which editing app you use? I’m struggling to find one simple enough for me to use! Xxx
I use the iMovie app on my iPad :) It's simple to use and I find it much more flexible than the desktop version (which I have on my MacBook but rarely use). I have tried fancier editing apps but...I always come back to iMovie! xx
@@ThisLittleWonderfulLife I have that on my iPad too but I can’t save videos on to my iPad from my camera as it doesn’t have a USB. I could try putting it on my Chromebook’s perhaps? 🤔 Thanks xx
But I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more 😂 😬
😂 DADADADAAA! DADADADAAA! DADADADADADADADADADADADAAA!
