top notch mechanic for sure, but as a machinist I'll give you a small tip. when lapping/sanding surfaces that you want to be as flat as possible its best to use a figure 8 pattern when sanding.
I have found using a rubbing block and making a cross-hatch pattern will yield better results. Using sandpaper larger than what your trying to make flat will cause the edges to wear down more. Only maybe half thou say probbaly won't matter but still half a thou
Awesome work! Your skills and hard work are pretty amazing... And not only on your bike, the quality of the video & editing is on top. You really deserve a much bigger audience. Keep the good work. Love from 🇦🇷
I just rebuild the engine on my 04 Yamaha Kodiak and later on like about 4 days later it slipped timing and bent the valve my fault tho I had the chance to replace the chain and I was wrong on my call but I learned my lesson
Hi mate.. for yamaha yz250f two types of bolts are using to fix the oil tube on the head and block . One bolt with small jet and other bolt hav bigger jet .. top line goes to the cam shaft lubrication and next one for the gear box ..may i know which one is using on the head and which one using on the block..?
Thanks for the video! I have rebuilt 2-strokes but wanted an idea on how to set timing and such as I am considering getting a 250f. Thanks for the confidence boost! Now, If i buy a 250f, I'm more confident in rebuilding it!
man, you know your shit around these bikes! As an experienced mechanic, which motocross bike would you say has lowest running costs and best reliability in long term perspective?
I reinstalled the transmission but first gear need some help to pass but all the other gears work like a charm! I want to know if I need to do something before closing the case
Do you have an idea why the crank seized? Could it be just bad maintenance or is there something wrong with these yzf engines? I've seen many cases where this same exact happens that the crank seizes like this and im worried for mine now :D.
Hi Matti, it is a pretty common thing, the big end bearing fail is common, it takes a lot of stress a lot of times. To push it back as far as possible I would change oil and filter per recommendation and not overheat my engine (so install have a temperature gauge somewhere to check)
Hi there...Enjoyed the video my friend..I am looking at a used to 2001 yz250f that the seller says doesn't run.. needs rebuild kit..he's asking $1800 obo... I wonder how much it would cost to rebuild the engine like you are doing here? If I buy can I ship the engine and rebuild kit parts to you? Thanks Kenny in Winona Mississippi USA
Hello. I could really use your help! That banjo bolt that you put in the case at the 18:58 mark I stripped because the torque wrench decided to not click! I've been working on this bike for months now and couldn't imagine having to pull it apart again😭 What you do??? And does that hole just go into the case behind the clutch? Like if I was to have to to any drilling, could I just take the clutch out and clean the shavings out there? I'm really stressing out about this. Thank you for any advice you can give me...
What is bearing number code at 1:46? I ordered that bearing with same code what was an old bearing but new is so small on that bearing hole. 6204RUED is number what i got
Buenas, tengo una yz125 1991,pero no tengo repuestos para la valbula de poder, el cilindro puede ser remplazado por el de alguna version mas nueva? asludos!
I find them for free, there is different websites that host those and I don’t really know their name I google search and find the manual I need in usually less than 5 min, you definitely don’t need to pay for that
Apply ultra black gasket maker to metal cover part and set gasket on top of gasket maker ultra black get it anywhere then install cover tighten down and wait for ultra black to fully cure.
I have been working 100% of my time on it for the past week, the next video will be posted in June and will be a long one because it’s the complete rebuild of the bike 👍
I dont know where u got. 040 on the 2nd piston ring but that gap is double what it should be. You had to have read it wrong on the instruction pamphlet or something. If you are building engines you should know better than that...
Dude, you. Don't make any dances you powder coat. The case covers, but you don't clean up the casings at all on a complete rebuild. Why even bother if you're gonna leave the casin's filthy man?You didn't even really clean them up.Much less.Get the corrosion off of them. No damn sense at all.

Thank you bud, this is a fantastic video for me since i am rebuilding the same engine at this time :) Cheers!
That’s the best compliment I can have, thanks ✌️
You are an excellent bike mechanic, you have been blessed with amazing talent
Ha ha, and thousands of hours of mistakes too 😅
Thanks for the compliment man 👍
Big thanx Tristan, this realy helpt me to put my engine togethet =)
Thank thank thank you for all the torque specs
Literally best step by step I’ve ever seen on building a bike engine👌🏽👌🏽
Freeze the bearings and heat up the case and they will just drop right in no pressing required
Put the bearings in the freezer 24 hours beforehand the will drop right into the cases.
Such a Nice and awesome rebuild, , love it...
Planning also to rebuild my 03 yz250f bike.
Same bike, you’ll have fun ✌️
I just rebuild the engine on my 04 Yamaha Kodiak and later on like about 4 days later it slipped timing and bent the valve my fault tho I had the chance to replace the chain and I was wrong on my call but I learned my lesson
Use a bad chain tensioner or bad timing can be a real disaster 🔧

Great video Man! I'm currently rebuilding my 2007 Yamaha Yz250f engine, so this video has helped a lot! Keep up the good work!
Doing the same to my 2007, what special tools are u finding a must have for the rebuild?
@@n0ldus03, crankcase splitter, cylinder hone, valve feeler gauges, clutch basket holder, flywheel holder, etc.

Wft happened to the Yamaha Virago Cafe Racer build??? I subscribed initially to see it finished ✅ where is it?
Hi man! I have been 100% on the YZ 250 lately but will go back on the virago soon because I want it finished for the summer 👍
How much did it cost for all that?
excellent work
Thanks Glen 👍
Wow so many small parts. I haven't ventured into any engine stuff yet :)
Yes but a single cylinder engine is a great first step into engine work👍
I have the same engine, when for a reconstruction of those?
Awesome video brother. Where can i get all the tools that you use
Thanks man! I usually link them in the description of the videos 👍

Where can I find new circlip rings. That I know are right for my yz250f????
does it matter what i lube the cams and buckets with, I was going to put some royal purple 10w30 on them

Tristan, where do you get all your tolerance specs for a bike from online, if you don't have an actual service manual?
I get everything from the service manual that I find online 👍

I have the final video of the build that I’ll post this month 👍

did you oil the oil filter before you put it in?
What is the plug to the right or the top of the motor?
👍👍

@@TristanDurandBuilds welcome....😁
What happen if I don’t install the clutch spring plate and seatp plate ? I don’t have those either
Would you know the diameter and grade of the stopper bolt under starter?
Am I supposed to add an adhesive or oil on the valve gasket cover at 12:07?
If so, what kind do I need? I have a 2004 Yamaha yz250f

Where is the case gasket?
Liquid gasket 👍
Why didn’t you use anaerobic sealant between the case halves... instead of RTV silicone??
Because I don’t have anything else (and honestly Permatex works great)
@@TristanDurandBuilds permatex is a brand.... not a specific product! Permatex also make anaerobic sealant... which is what you should have used.
On 2:37 in the video what is the spring and metal little rod for
Well I found out on my own it’s the neutral position sensor if anyone was woundering
Can someone tell me if a 2002/2005 are the same motor and components? Having a hard time trying to find a video for my 2002 YZ250F

how to the piston rings have to be , like each gap away from each other ?
The ring ends have to be at 120°, for more info look at the instructions coming with your new piston 👍
How many dowel pins are on the case halfs
What color is the powder coat
