WARNING before you make the mistake i did on my 09 kx450f I reused the valve keepers that was on it thinkin they would hold but of course after about 10-15 hrs on a new rebuild and it let one of my exhaust valves come loose thankfully it didn’t go through the piston or grenade the cylinder but it shattered the valve bucket and threw a couple pieces of the bucket into the head smh i hadn’t road it but a few rides since i built the bike worked on it for 4-5 months (it was a full rebuild plus i had work 6 days a week now i’m back to where i started lmao guess that’s da shit happens when you’re apart of dat #kawi life😅
My 250f had 403 hours until I had it rebuilt, even tho it’s way more expensive to rebuild a 4 stroke I’d still pay 1k+ once every year I have 250 and a 250 f and I like my 4 stroke a lot more
Thanks for settling my decision to only own two strokes. I bet someone would charge $1000 if they did all of that. Plus install the head and check the valves.
When doing this, is it necessary to buy all new parts such as valve springs, spring seats, etc or can I just buy new valves and use the old springs and seats? Also at what point can't you shim anymore?
Novaghast you need to buy springs as a minimum, they wear out really fast at those high rpms, meaning they will fatigue and lose some spring pressure. This will result in valve float and spring failure. Everything else can be reused.
Where in America are you guys? Do you ship overseas? I live in the Bahamas, and I bought a 2002 Yz250f that needed a cylinder head that was crushed, it was gone beyond repair. Thank you for channel,I have subscribe.
We do ship overseas and have locations in Utah and Kentucky. You can check out our website for parts and accessories here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/ Thanks for checking out the channel!
You can pretty much go 50hrs on a 250f, if you clean your airfilter and change the oil every 3hrs for maintenance. If you ride easy and stay off the higher rpms, you can get 80hrs. If you race, id change at 25hrs. 450f's will last longer, id say 80hrs normal. Less if you race and some have over 200hrs on stock piston.
Can you actually get an accurate valve clearence measurement when the cylinder head is off the bike like this or is he just showing how to do it when the cylinder head is on the bike etc
Do NOT allow any shop to use a Neway cutter on your motorcycle seat. Newen is by far the best, Serdi is second best. Rottler and Sunnen are also pretty good. Do not allow a shop to use stones on your valve seats.
@@tratloucany because modern CNC controlled valve seat machines with cutters are orders of magnitude superior in terms of accuracy and getting a high performing long lasting seal. Also, stones suck on beryllium copper seats and inconel valves
Oh wow.. Most detailed and informative video I’ve ever seen about this procedure. I can’t believe this doesn’t have a million views..
It does now!
haha was thinking the same thing.....not ! lmao
I sure am glad RMATV likes Yamaha's as much as I do. YZ 250, 250F and banshee build videos!
Thank you for taking the time to do this! Very helpful.
Indeed it was
Excellent video; I just wanted to see how difficult this job is. I am never doing that LOL.

Outstanding video, thank you
Didn’t know owning a dirt bike will make me an engineer
so you have complete cylinder head for honda vt750 ace ?
thanks for the video. I have kibblewhite ss valves and cylinder works head.(All brand new parts.)Should I still lap the valves?
awesome vid and edits and filming and bike and shop
saved all 3 videos
That's what we like to see *Ride or Dive Kerry!* Thanks for watching
What is the part number of the toolbox that is on the rear guard of the bike?
Thanks
Great vid. Thaks RM!
So, can you work the cam journals on the head or do you buy a new head?
do 2 stroke top end rebuild!
Here ya go! ua-cam.com/video/-FFIWtqU5Zc/v-deo.html
If the valves pass a liquid leak test, are they ok for now?

you can measure springs to make sure they are with in spec, of course if not replace them.
thanks brother i appreciate the help

Do you have performance heads for kx250f 2010

What do you do if you can’t get the buckets out?
Will you do a bottom end video?
*Stevie Wonder* Coming soon!
Will you ever do a top end video on a late model ktm 450 sxf?
Does this work for a 2015 yz250fx also??
Love the video content
Valve collets, weird hearing it called valve keepers
I forgot where they came from what if I just put the reatainers and shims where I want
Bay Thomas lmfaooo, doesn’t sound like a good idea to this guy. How’d it end up working for ya? 😂
How do you know when to replace a piston/valves on a four stroke?

Tom Whicker you would want to do a compression test and if its out of spec do a leak down and pinpoint the cause(s).
Step 1 remove head
Step 2 take to a professional to have it done
Step 3 pick up and install easy and done right
🤣🤣🤣amen brother
Trouble is most shops arent worth a salt and break more things than they fix
You left out "pay them a lot of money".
why i can't see this video in my subscribe menu ?
Are the Titanium Valve will damage your head engine or piston???
Can you actually get an accurate valve clearence measurement when the cylinder head is off the bike like this or is he just showing how to do it when the cylinder head is on the bike etc
valve clearance is not affected by the head being installed on the motor. It is way easier to do this and reshim if necessary when it is off the bike.
Can anyone tell me the name of the wee tool he uses to measure the inner diameter of the valve guides?
If you look up "small hole gauge set" you should be able to find them that way!
which yamabond was used #4 or #5?
I believe we used Hondabond 4 in this video which is similar for Yamabond 4.
Yeah I think I'll get someone else to do it
is intake and exhaust springs the same?
and is the valve lifters the same ?
Yes but you can get kits with different color paint on spring say red is a pound stronger than blue etc..
Maysure :)
Great website!!!
And First
Has anyone rebuilt their bike from this vid?
I made a video aswell where I replace some valve seats and rebuild the head. Check it out
