You cannot talk about Lucas. This channel is literally called SixStringTV and Lucas plays 9 strings, which makes him at least 33% superior, faster and more talented than any guitarrist who plays 6 strings Who needs to give credits to anyone when you have a Mustang?
You might be thinking 6 string guitarists are 33% inferior, 9 is 50% more than 6 but 6 is 33% less than 9. But since you said at least 33% that's technically right.
I took lessons from Lucas back when RoS was just starting out. He was super cool to me and guest-listed me on any shows that came through my town. I even brought my N64 and we played Super Smash in their tour van lol. I know people change, but I've only had positive experiences with him.
idk he necessarily hasnt changed, it's possible that he is very nice in some situations and not so nice in other. You probably gave him all the respect and he had no reason to be not nice to you
People also act differently in different contexts. With something like you where you benefit each other he’ll be nice and respectful, but he’ll become defensive and hostile when called out for his bullshit
@@maaaaaap What a profound statement. You are so smart. Literally everybody on this planet Acts nice in some situations and not nice in others. Amazing
I think lucas is a good guitar player. Ive seen ROS twice. Once after a show i stopped at the merch counter and told him that i thought he played great. And he seemed very annoyed by my compliment . I walked away thinking he was kind of a tool haha
@@superQman600 this is not the only comment about Lucas treating people poorly... right after compliments or even literally willing to drop some money to him (when he was at the merch table). Doesn't look like a case of being "tired", just primadonna behavior.
TBH I feel similarly about compliments as Keanu Reeves, it can come off a certain way to people that don't understand. I think people that are genuinely humble(so not Lucas lol) that have strong self-awareness are like that too, they know and don't want or need validation, or it makes them uncomfortable when people almost pedestalize them. It's hard to explain to most people coming from a person that happens to be very talented and/or good-looking(from what I've gathered from others, for years I didn't see it) that's like that because few people are. I get how women feel about men they're not attracted to calling them attractive in some way, like that's going to make them want you lol, women do it too or can be like simps. If you're not shallow it's kind of a weird thing for a stranger to compliment TBH, and even if I'm attracted to them it kinda leads me to think they're shallow and care too much about looks, but now I realize how much most women do lol. Women seem to think men prefer younger women because of looks, not nearly as shallow as women think, I'd rather have a below average 23YO with a low body count than a woman over 30 that's very attractive even if she ticks other important boxes for me, it's a biological thing and men age 2x slower biologically and most of what women find attractive gets better with age not worse. For me I can sense a person's energy and am great at reading people, I get to know people quickly that way. I definitely sense the difference between sl*t energy and the more motherly wife type of energy which the ladder is what I like, or there's an energy only quality women that don't have a promiscuous past have for the most part. I think it's similar to how nofap can change the kind of energy a guy gives off, gave up adult content 8 years ago too BTW. That and overwhelmingly unwanted attention like a lot of women get, they might like the validation though. I'm legit the type of guy that wouldn't smash a 10 if she ticks little if any boxes that really matter to me, I've always taken sex and relationships very seriously(at 37 I've always been celibate outside of serious relationships) and it's hard to find my type these days and I hate rejecting people and don't like compliments at least on things like looks, so I have a hard time keeping up appearances because of it. Almost all my 20's I maintained a neck beard and untrimmed hair so I'd be left alone and tend to keep my talents to myself.
I met Lucas Mann in a venue bathroom years ago without realizing it and while making small talk while washing our hands I said to him that hopefully Rings of Saturn could play their shit. When he told me who he was I felt so bad and started apologizing profusely. Later on that night when he couldn't play his shit it just became funny.
this is fucking hilarious I remember seeing them twice live, both times Lucas played backing tracks for his part and had his guitar volume down pretty low....you could still hear the mistakes if you were near the front of the stage lolllll All the other guitarists they've had (like Joel or Miles etc) are legit and can play their parts.
I remember meeting Lucas once and i said dude you guys are amazing thanks so much for coming here to play. Dude didn't say nothing just looked at me nodded arrogantly and then brushed me off basically. To be honest as a fan it kind of hurt i was like wow dude alright 👍 He owns a mustang so i shouldn't be surprised
I really hate seeing comments like this (not because of you). its because the main ONE thing I always say that rock and metal have above the other generes is their awesome fan service. I haven't met Lucas. But its sounding like it was a 'never meet your heroes' sort of deal. I have met plenty of other big musicians though. Gene Simmons included. And if anyone had the right to treat fans like garbage it was him. But he doesn't. He shook my hand and asked me what favorite song was
You guys with these stories sound really dramatic, the guy didn't even say anything mean to you but because he didn't kiss your ass when you tried to glaze him he's a bad guy or something.
Meanwhile "arrogant" Mr. Malmsteen spent 20 minutes talking to me and being super friendly and encouraging. He seemed genuinely pleased when I complimented his tone and he is a funny guy. Very polite too, which even as a fan I did not expect. Just a big personality and confident, not full of himself at all.
Joel was so nice when i saw them live, i noticed during all the "hard" parts Lucas would turn away from the crowd, but Joel at least looked like he was really playing them (I'm 99.99% sure he was).
I agree with you. I think Lucas is skillful enough to play those hard parts, but he is lazy to practice or memorize complicated notes.(It really take time)
I checked them out and really liked them. But one of the things that really drew me to ROS were their lyrics. I would love to see aliens like ROS in a movie or game. And it seems the closest I'll ever get are the Reapers in Mass Effect. Why is it so much to ask for like an R rated Invader Zim or something?
years ago I was at the merch stand he was running after the set and asked for the Lugal Ki En album art shirt and I guess I pronounced it a little wrong and he was bothered and said "It's LOOG-ALL" I really liked their first 3 albums but yeah Lucas is sort of a butthole. It's all good.
No seriously, a friend I was with offered to over pay for a shirt during LKE tour and he specifically told him to “Fuck off”. Why? Who the fuck is this guy? I loved ROS. Lucas was an idol. But now I think i believe all of the half speed ahit. And I think hes ebony beauty left him for good reason. He is a self righteous, self aggrandizing loser who had some really cool ideas He should have just been a ghost writer. All of the good members of ROA are gone. ROS is gone Lucas is a tool
@@horse_dog no but six string TV had a video about a guy that didn't like donuts that kept getting taken down so KDH reposted it on his own channel to explain what happened
I remember that Sleep Terror was (or is, not following for a while) a decent project, but... it's impossible to compare with Blotted Science, they're peak instrumental metal.
@@unavailablenull2346Rings is real though. I love both bands personally, Blotted Science is incredible, but RoS are real. The faking allegations have been debunked time and time again and I've seen them live 3 or 4 times, they're legit.
Thanks for the TL; DW version. I have the attention span of a squirrel with ADHD; no way I can sit thourgh 40 minutes if Lucas yammering away about accusations of him faking his playing 😂
the reason it is 40 minutes long is because of the tens of thousands of hate messages and death threats sent his way by channels like this and people like you.
@@vixen878 When did i say anything bad about him i simply summarized his 40 minute long video i didnt go into anything else, the man is not above criticism, BUT i also, have never met him. so i base my opinion and critics on what i see which i didnt even state so just stop
The band died with Ian leaving, end of story. I am a die hard death metal fanatic (old and new) but Ian (along with so many other incredible vocalists in deathcore) is the reason I will die on the hill that deathcore blows the doors out of death metal in terms of vocals. Their first two albums were top notch.
@@DavidKazuma That is a whole different genre hahaha. That being said, I'm 100% with you, James Shuster, Joe Wolfe, Andres Usma, Justin Boehm, Brian Forgue and the likes of those guys are better in the low register than any deathcore vocalist by a mile imo. Have a good day!
Not sure who Miles Baker is, but I took lessons from a guy named Giles Baker, who wrote an album called Gulla Gulta. Can confirm the half speed recording is entirely true, that Giles wrote 95% of that album, and all the generally douche bag shit surrounding Lucas
don't forget most of ring's of saturn's good songs had been written by someone other than lucas, like on their release gidim, they were stolen from one of the members of "we are the end" and rewritten to fit it. He gives himself too much credit for what hes done.
Lucas is the real life person version of the dude in internet forums who stays sh*tposting 24/7. Worth a chuckle or two at first but grades on you quickly. Credit where credit is due tho, he was pretty smart about marketing and merchandising his band.
are there any people left in the world who just listen to the music and don't care about if its a person or a machine that made it or if they did it a certain way or didn't do it a certain way. am i really the weird odd one out for just listening to it and enjoying it? crazy, back to lugal ki en for me.
I think Lucas is a tool but LKE and UU are still among some of my favorite albums of all time by any band. Don't particularly care if he can or can't play his own songs live. Same goes for Infant Annihilator (though I think those boys are all just lovely), they don't perform live to my knowledge and there are plenty of their songs that I don't think anyone could perform live, but I've listened to the BOY album probably more times front to back than any other album.
I’ve always been cool with them. Hung out with them a few times in NY and NJ and they crashed at my place once, all very nice and cool ppl. I’ve seen them play live up close, they are amazingly talented regardless of whether they have some parts that aren’t naturally played on the records
Sorry in advance for typing out a whole essay lmao but I just wanted to share my thoughts on the fake guitar/“half speed” aspect that people are always complaining about Coming from somebody that plays the exact same kind of music as Rings of Saturn, yes there is a lot of audio editing that is done to the guitars in order to make them sound the way that they do, which is why everyone is always saying that Rings of Saturn’s stuff is recorded at “half speed”. However, this doesn’t mean that Lucas or anyone else in the band can’t play what they write simply because of the way they decided to record the guitars. That’s why practicing exists lol. Personally, I’ve always seen the very overproduced video game/“half speed” sound as a stylistic choice/specific sound that Rings of Saturn tries to achieve with their album sounds (and for the sound of my own recordings as well). To me, it’s never mattered the way in which somebody decides to record guitars. Whether it’s recording in one take, measure by measure, beat by beat, note by note, slowing down and then speeding up, using MIDI instruments, etc. All that matters is that in the end, you’re satisfied with how the finished product sounds, and you’re still able to play it live if you plan on doing so. If those 2 requirements are met, who cares if the audio is highly edited or if it’s recorded at “half speed”? It’s pretty clear that people that still complain about this just aren’t fans of this particular kind of music/sound. Which is fine, but it makes no sense for those people to go around saying Lucas can’t play or for them to go around shitting on other people simply because they don’t like the way the music sounds.
I think maybe the most unfortunate thing is what this shit does to a creator in general. We are devoid of good new Rings stuff because of this nonsense and I'm sure of it. I appreciate your uploads because you show that this stuff is not impossible. You clearly put dedication into shredding like you do, and if I am correct, the main reason this came up is because the riffs "sound" or "look" impossible. They aren't. That's just how they sound. It's supposed to sounds ridiculous. They CAN be made with production techniques, and they can be played. It's fucking written to be played. I am not at the level of anyone in question here, but I can still say that none of those riffs are impossible.
It's fine if that's the sound you want to go for, but it's perfectly reasonable that people will dislike and criticize that style. It's robotic and sounds lifeless. It removes the human element, which is an element that many people relate to and value. Not to sound like that guy that bends everything out of tune and makes a dumb ass face every time they do, but it lacks soul when you edit the human element out of the tracks.
@@KeepTheGatesthe issue isn’t people not liking the way it sounds, obviously everyone has an opinion and not everyone is going to like it because the robotic sound is a very acquired taste. The issue is people acting like you can’t play what you’ve written simply because of recording that way. Practicing exists for a reason, and people shouldn’t be discredited and falsely accused as fake guitarists just for trying to go for a certain sound, especially when they’ve proven multiple times that they can actually play what they’ve written.
man, I love their album Gidim so much. It makes me sad that Ian left the band and that their last album was pretty dogshit, idrc if they can't play what they write, some of their solos are so good im genuinely willing to look past that if he can at least compose quality music really sad that Lucas is such a knobhead, I admire his musicianship and... that's about it
For the DI tracks going thru the amp thing, idk what Lucas' reasoning was, but I do know that one reason to do that is to give a different tone to your extra guitar parts, rather than just using the tracks from the album. I guess you could just reamp the DI's and throw em in the backing tracks instead, but I'm sure any band who's neurotic enough about their live sound to bother setting this kinda rig up would think that "won't sound right" (at least that's what the bands I've talked to who do this tend to say)
My guitar teacher is Friend’s with miles dmitri baker and told me about this stuff immediately after I found Ultu Ulla. Sucks because it’s such a great band
I have met Lucas before, he seems like an okay guy. I bought a hard copy of dingir or whatever the one after is called and I jokingly asked him to sign it in half speed. He did and seemed to have gotten a kick out of the gesture
just watched the 40min response of Lucas...pretty convincing..i dont think jared has one single point on this and tbh...the fact jared called him out without any talking to Lucas first to sort things out make Jared look like the narcissist. I just learned about Lucas about 1h ago but his response video seems honest and genuine. Definitely a one in a million talent at guitar. One more thing...getting his side of the story out after being shat on publicly, doesn´t make him a drama queen either. Haters always gonna hate!
it’s very clear that even on their studio albums a lot of the runs and faster passages are re-amped guitar pro tracks. i have no idea how anyone who competently plays guitar can fall for that
Not even sure about Guitar Pro tracks (mainly cause I'm mostly unfamiliar with Guitar Pro), but definitely not him sitting down and playing those entire passages at full speed 🤣
It's the Haarp Machine all over again. Their tracks were played at slower speeds and then sped up. Even Nolly and Misha from Periphery chimed in on that one on a forum. People said that sounded like guitar pro too. KMac made a parody of that band and used guitar pro if I remember correctly and it sounded just like them.
@@MichaelAE It goes beyond that with The HAARP Machine. The Strandberg promo video he did straight up had guitar pro RSE tone reamped. His tremolo picking in the video sounds robotic... because it is indeed a robot performance. Lol
Man i can't be the only one that prefers music with out vocals can i? I jumped with joy the day i found out they would be releasing all the albums as Instrumentals.
I guess ppl have difficulty grasping that some songs don't need vocals or sound better w/o vocals? I don't mind when people find vocals so pivotal, but...
When I see anyone behaving like Lucas, in any job, skill, hobby, sport, way of life, I just automatically assume they're a hack. Nobody who actually has the skills and the ability to prove them needs to act like this
Oh man. Don't ever uderestimate the power of low selfesteem. Even when it's presented as egomaniacs. Why would you ever need that much attention if you know who you are, right?
Oh go stuff it with your moral high ground virtue signaling nonsense. If the end product is something you enjoy who cares the process or drama involved. Do you actually spend time following any of what Lucas does?, didn't even watch the vid, just came to dump on some do nothing while im at work. I like the band, didn't even know that was his name or drama......because its not important. Get a life, be more productive. :)
Bro you have 0 idea what a hack means, do you even play the freaking instrument? Come on, go look at the Gidim tapping section there's 1 cover on youtube.
I always feel like comments about the sound and studio magic is gate-keepy. It does sound super processed and not real, but that's the sound they and many fans like. They're able to play what they write so I don't see anything wrong with it. ROS seems to care more about the composition and less about the performance. Similar to Within The Ruins, Infant Annihilator, etc. It's just a sound some bands and people like.
Not sure how interesting that would be personally. Aside from the whole "Taking in half a million dollars in crowdfunding money and never delivering on their promises" thing, it's mostly just Jari whining on social media & not actually releasing any music.
literally anything on the radio but okay. like nothing popular today can be replicated live instrumentally without a shit ton of backing layers and presets in any genre of music on the planet.
If it was some small-time indie label then it’d have been probably just a nothingburger squabble. But it blows my mind that Lucas blackmailed FUCKING NUCLEAR BLAST. I consider getting a deal with NB (among other a few other labels) to be essentially the big time in extreme metal, and he went and blackmailed them. He climbed the mountain, threw a fit because the summit wasn’t to his liking, then threatened to blow up the expedition team who had seemingly no issue with the view.
I'm a fan of ROS butjust being honest here. On the cybershred tour Joel did all the leads and runs and arpeggios and was the one literally holding down the guitar section. Lucas was often turned facing away from the audience and when he played it was single notes as if he is playing the bass root note. Then Joel would be shredding and Lucas played some power chords during the bit where you wanna see it live...when Joel was doing the work. Then Lucas would stop playing again. Then hit the root notes. Power chords and the breakdown. Song I am referring to is Shrine. And my fav off the new record and he literally played the bare minimum required for 20 percent of the song. And it's a really fucking Noodley weedley part. But nope. Just fucking root notes
i dont really like rings of saturn but i disagree with a lot of the points so i feel its worth going through about the instagram thing, i don't think it really matters who controls the account at the end of the day and what he decides to post. i don't think that means he doesnt give credit to anyone, i would love to see a more in depth look into that if its really something thats an issue. it's not like he's using the instagram to post that there's no one else in the band, and its not like he hides who worked on what albums in other sources. now yes, we don't know what the terms of the label was that caused lucas to threaten them, but in general im against the idea of record labels having too much power over the musicians. musicians should be able to share if they've had a bad experience with a label, so while we don't know what the demands are i don't think its at all fair to say it was a bad thing for him to threaten going public with that experience while we dont know. as for not being able to take pride in your music because its digitally edited, i think this take is kind of an outdated way of looking at music. yes, it's amazing to see the limits of human ability when it comes to speed and technical guitar playing, but when you're making a song in my opinion the most important aspect is how good the song sounds. if you are not able to record something perfectly and so you fake it, thats not something i mind at all. i dont think that ruins the integrity of the music (if you're honest about it!) because the result of the music is the product, and having technical ability is a different skill. i know this take isnt very common in metal, but my love for music comes from final product however that may have been made. i did watch the lucas mann response video and i thought it was pretty good, i feel it's a little dishonest to make this video without watching the whole thing but to each their own. if he is lying about it, then yes it is bad, but i do not believe he is from what i've seen this is a bit of an older video so i don't know how much you stand by it but just in general i think more research would've been nice, it felt like some of the points were incomplete or i just completely didnt agree with your rationale
When Dingir dropped I was blasting it almost everyday for a good while. It’s my favorite album by them for sure but I remember I one time I used these old messed up wired headphones to jam it & the audio playback was messed up. Like there was no vocals, drums were low & the guitars really stood out louder than the rest of the instruments. Almost like I was listening to a karaoke version of the album. I could hear the guitars in a whole new light & they sounded absolutely fake, almost no string attack & came off as programmed to me. Kinda bummed me out cause i they were my favorite band at the time. If anyone knows how to isolate guitar tracks, try it on the original Dingir album and peep the palm mutes / attacks. Really reminds me of guitar pro audio stuff. I will always love that album no matter what, but I will always question the guitar work since hearing what I heard
So if the album came out today with all the more advanced plugins, guitars that has organic string slide sound, attack, noises, it would have been fine cause it doesn't sound programmed?
I do engineering and it’s not being speed up but it is being quantized to the click track. it just means it places everything in a grid and is perfectly placed on time even if the band isn’t on time. There is sampled drums placed in to make the drums have a fatter sound now I don’t know if that is really a thing with other instruments in recording but sampled drums are the new norm for engineering. You really can’t fake playing fast what people I think are confusing is that you always record multiple guitar part’s because guitarist will play something a little different each time. The worst song for band in recording studio is always the first song which a lot times is also the most played song but what happens is the band gets nervous so you have to break those nerves also people get in their own heads and will mess themselves up. The way a band does there stuff isn’t right or wrong especially in recording it’s what there fans like either you like it or don’t. as engineer you have to like everything and keep your ears open to everything.
miles was an awesome member and having taken lessons with him i can say that he can play absolutely everything he ever played with rings flawlessly without any tricks. dudes a unit.
Why would anyone care what goes in in someone's personal life or other drama. I could care less about how they got the results. Bands use kick tracks so they don't have to play the complicated feet patters, bands use backing tracks, lip sing, if they put on a great show who cares. Some bands suck live and I wish they would fake it. I love Burzum, could care less that he killed someone and his political views. Listen to music you love and be more productive then feeding into drama like a teenybopper.
I was actually originally tasked with Mixing Lucas's "guitar pro" song that you referenced. I sent him a mix that didn't sound good enough for him and he eventually went with another engineer for the final product. I hadn't even thought about it until now. Screw a bullet, I feel like I dodged a freaking MISSILE.
So your feelings got hurt because he didnt like your mix and decided to go with someone who's better instead of settling, and now you're using that experience to go "i was right all alooong!!!!"? What a pussy.
I think what annoys me most is like... I literally would not care if the tracks are sped up or altered on the album itself, it's been common practice to do this because an album is an entirely different thing from a live music show. I only care if a band can actually play the shit that's on their albums live. If they can do that, they can do whatever they like on the albums themselves. I used to have a lot of respect for Lucas (mostly after his big, nearly an hour long video explaining what was happening in a lot of clips) but his attitude since then seems to have just massively declined, or always been this way rather, where he's also just a huge dick for no reason. Sure, he's probably just constantly mad because he's been a target for years, but like... just don't be a dick? He could have been the most chill dude ever the whole time and just took it in stride and I'd find him so much less annoying now, but instead he just had to adopt the most obviously fake attitude about it all, which makes me just not care. Also, yeah, Ultu Ulla is the best one.
this is such a stupid ass standard we only hold in this genre. good metal music has backing tracks live because good metal music has a lot of layers. this whole 'need to do it 100% live' shit is idiotic and leads to bad generic basic music with no room for evolution in composition.
@@derpderpin1568 Are you saying I think this way or are you just saying it in general? Because I do agree, backing tracks are fine, basically everybody uses them. Some bands have to. Ulcerate have 3 members and so much layering that they NEED backing tracks to actually play live and that's okay. I think the debate largely came down to "record at half speed (allegedly) so therefore they don't play anything legit" which is total horseshit. If there's any reason to dislike ROS it has nothing to do with how they record albums, and ngl, albums and a live setting are very different things anyway, most people want an album to be perfect and as clean as possible, if you want to record it in such a way where it is clean then, more power to you? But the fact they could also just obviously play the stuff live should've stopped this debate years ago, but alas metal fans are stubborn and weird.
This is sad. I love all the Augmented Whole-tone harmonies. To me, that was what Rings of Saturn were known for. In my mind before hand, I have not heard any metal bands doing that. And all the Major and Minor Second shredding. I was learning music theory on Bass from Talking Bass Online Bass Lessons from Mark Smith back in 2015. Learning the four common triads and what not. And trying to find excuses to use this knowledge in my own music projects. Then I heard Rings of Saturn and there sound really inspired me to push forward even harder with this knowledge. So this is a shame.
I’ve seen RoS twice and met Ian the second time I saw them. Total sweetie tbh. I can see why he’s not in the band anymore. I personally liked his vocals and hope he does another project, whether it’s solo or with another band. Never met Lucas, but I’ve had a few interactions with him on Instagram, and yeaaahh dude runs the place like it’s the “Lucas Mann show” 😂
6:14 no, that's not how backing tracks work. They run prerecorded parts/tracks into the PA and monitoring system. It would be crazy to run them through guitar amps each night if they're already pre-recorded.
@@sixstringtv1 I've watched his statement after your video. He mentioned DI signals for the 2 live guitar players and backing tracks. That makes more sense.
I showed RoS to a friend and the look on his face was both "just bit into a lemon" and "what the frig?" He asked did they make an effects pedal from a super nintendo? 😅
As a fan of some of the music they have made, I do think they Are a legit band with their technical stuff, I mean I have tried to cover some of their songs and gotten close. However Lucas does seem like a bit of a drama queen more so than other musicians. Like Joel Omens who is in the band...but like yeah would like to see lucas not be an asswipe to be honest
Great video. On a side-note, I looked up Ryan Sinnott and damn is he a sick drummer. Lucas Mann might suck, but at least he found a great session drummer.
@@sixstringtv1 if they are smart they will lock him in as a member. The guy can play. Of course, he might make more money with their current arrangement for all I know.
Update: Joel Omans has since left RoS, after the release of there newest single (at the time of writing) “Theogony”. And most importantly, Lucas is still a priss.
"Not even promoting my shit, and still smoking your ass!" - Was a FB post of his that particularly made me cringe about as hard as humanly possible. Dunno who it was aimed at, but I'm sure it must've been a former member or something. Death metal Giga-Chad for sure!
How so? I've never started any beef with anyone. That deranged dude who claims he owns BC Rich is just that, insane. Other than that all I do is echo things that are already on the internet, or play guitar.
As a big fan of RoS but not exactly a great user of reaction videos I would say that’s impressive how I’ve never heard of all this drama thing, only thought it was strange when some time ago all RoS songs became instrumental and get used to it. Probably I’m a different kind of fan that really don’t bother about musician’s lifes and this makes me feel strange. I still like the songs, even not hearing that much nowadays, I still wear my 2 bootleg shirts and think I got here because of the new song. Guess I lived too much..
Holy shit this is one of the best put together alternative pieces of media I've ever fuckin seen, love the content and definitely hooked, keep going! :)
He's definitely a drama queen. I remember the Jared dines years ago where he got very upset over a video that Jared made where he was reacting to crazy guitarists. It changed my perception of him, especially considering he could have went a different route on dealing with it. Also I only got into Rings of Saturn because their vocalist is really good. I like his vocals more than I like Lucas playing 🤷🏻♂️
Jared made a video not only reacting to crazy guitarists, but also chimed in whether he thought they fake it or not. He said Lucas was faking it. Lucas responded to it with a pretty long video trying to prove him (and anyone else who thinks he fakes it) wrong. Even with that said, he can definitely be a drama queen in many other instances lol. I'm a guitarist so ill keep listening to RoS tho. I rarely follow any band based on their vocals.
Honestly I'm not a fan of Lucas but he was in the right in that situation. Jared made a massive hit piece of guitarists who are insanely talented and all of his 'proof' was 'but like thats SO hard to play.' So Lucas dismantled the points Jared made.
@@onetakehoovie5955 but there's proof that he does speed up hid playing. This video already proves it. And I disagree he could have handled it better instead of being a crybaby about it.
Dude, all the guitar UA-camrs were dogpiling and shitting on him. How did you expect him to react? Edit: His response was as respectful as it possibly could have been. The fuck are you on about?
ROS should have been huge. They could have been if Lucas' ego didn't get in the way. Same thing with The Faceless. Michael Keene's ego thwarted the band's success
He said something like: "I only have synth tracks in my monitors and that's why it sounds weird". Okay so you don't want to hear what yourself are actually playing? Almost like the guy is connected directly to MIDI input or something :D Anyway, that music really makes me feel like a grandpa but I can still see it working for certain applications, like a video game soundtrack or something.
You forgot about the stolen riffs for the track "the husk" Can't remember the band but it was written years before in a previous project with Lucas Mann, from what I remember the song got scrapped but he used the riffs later Oh and also, Miles Dimitri Baker is a great dude and you can tell his writing is all over ulta ulla
Are we really bringing this all back? This was a great video, but people don't seem to realize that Lucas is a marketing genius when it comes to the hate. Yes, during the recordings of Ultu Ulla (and all earlier albums and tours), there's always been problems within the band due to Lucas' behavior. However, i met him multiple times and have seen his personality change over the years. He went from being a socially awkward non-communicative individual to an outspoken chill laid back guy. The last time i met him showed me that he has def changed as a person, but there's no reason for him to show that to the internet because all the hate generates way more sales.
He must be a marketing genius cause I actually never heard of rings of Saturn until I used the setting on the berry amp an then all sudden I'm seeing bunch of videos about him. You think you could make avideo about how my music is over ingineered and I'm terrible to my band mates so I can get popular?
Why does Lucas need a band? You’d think he’d want to be a solo act with little minions to rule. The Instagram is hilarious. It’s too bad that he’s wasted what could have been a super talented band (and the time of a big deal metal label) with his ego. I think the only question I have is why the remaining band members (session drummer lol) are sticking with this instrumental thing when they can probably do better with other projects. I can’t imagine they’re making much, if any, money at this point.
I'd love to know how they split up the revenue across the members. I can't imagine a session drummer would get music royalties, and the way Miles put it, the royalties look slim even if you're the one who wrote an entire album
i think he tried to get funding for a solo project in the past but no was interested in giving him any money for it , he always seems to hire talented younger musicians who probably sign up more to play in a well know group then for the money off the top of my head im pretty sure he met Aaron (a previous drummer) when he was only like 16 or 17
I have only seen the Jared Dines drama from this and I felt sympathetic for him, this was very eye-opening but I do like some of their songs and he's insane on the instrument. It's a shame he ruined it like this.
"...beautiful and delicious benefits..."(sultry saxophone melody in background) That was a sexy channel plug you put together at the end there. Well done, sir, well done.
You cannot talk about Lucas.
This channel is literally called SixStringTV and Lucas plays 9 strings, which makes him at least 33% superior, faster and more talented than any guitarrist who plays 6 strings
Who needs to give credits to anyone when you have a Mustang?
9 strings? Andy Summers used 24 strings at one point. Big whoop.
😂😂😂
Mustangs have six strings. Checkmate.
@@georgeprice4212clearly mr summers is 300% faster and better than any six string player and 165% faster than Lucas Mann

That intro was gold.
The spongebob announcer thing never fails to make me laugh.
Sorry in advance for typing out a whole essay lmao but I just wanted to share my thoughts on the fake guitar/“half speed” aspect that people are always complaining about
Coming from somebody that plays the exact same kind of music as Rings of Saturn, yes there is a lot of audio editing that is done to the guitars in order to make them sound the way that they do, which is why everyone is always saying that Rings of Saturn’s stuff is recorded at “half speed”.
@@KeepTheGates what if I told you that style sounds totally organic and full of feeling, to me?

really sad that Lucas is such a knobhead, I admire his musicianship and... that's about it
For the DI tracks going thru the amp thing, idk what Lucas' reasoning was, but I do know that one reason to do that is to give a different tone to your extra guitar parts, rather than just using the tracks from the album. I guess you could just reamp the DI's and throw em in the backing tracks instead, but I'm sure any band who's neurotic enough about their live sound to bother setting this kinda rig up would think that "won't sound right" (at least that's what the bands I've talked to who do this tend to say)

Hi Lucas. Your music sucks.
it’s very clear that even on their studio albums a lot of the runs and faster passages are re-amped guitar pro tracks. i have no idea how anyone who competently plays guitar can fall for that
Not even sure about Guitar Pro tracks (mainly cause I'm mostly unfamiliar with Guitar Pro), but definitely not him sitting down and playing those entire passages at full speed 🤣
Those faster passages are edited note by note. That is why it sounds like guitarpro tracks
It's the Haarp Machine all over again. Their tracks were played at slower speeds and then sped up. Even Nolly and Misha from Periphery chimed in on that one on a forum. Dude, I'm digging the severed headstock of the Gibson Les Paul you have mounted on the wall. Nice.
But nope. Just fucking root notes

now yes, we don't know what the terms of the label was that caused lucas to threaten them, but in general im against the idea of record labels having too much power over the musicians. musicians should be able to share if they've had a bad experience with a label, so while we don't know what the demands are i don't think its at all fair to say it was a bad thing for him to threaten going public with that experience while we dont know.
as for not being able to take pride in your music because its digitally edited, i think this take is kind of an outdated way of looking at music. yes, it's amazing to see the limits of human ability when it comes to speed and technical guitar playing, but when you're making a song in my opinion the most important aspect is how good the song sounds. if you are not able to record something perfectly and so you fake it, thats not something i mind at all. i dont think that ruins the integrity of the music (if you're honest about it!) because the result of the music is the product, and having technical ability is a different skill. i know this take isnt very common in metal, but my love for music comes from final product however that may have been made. i did watch the lucas mann response video and i thought it was pretty good, i feel it's a little dishonest to make this video without watching the whole thing but to each their own. if he is lying about it, then yes it is bad, but i do not believe he is from what i've seen
this is a bit of an older video so i don't know how much you stand by it but just in general i think more research would've been nice, it felt like some of the points were incomplete or i just completely didnt agree with your rationale

I do love Rings of Saturn’s music back when Ian was in the band, but their new self titled is so ass to me, how much did Ian carry that whole band 😂
I'm actually surprised he didn't comment yet
I will always love that album no matter what, but I will always question the guitar work since hearing what I heard
yeah, its a bitter pill but its true. Dingir is my favorite too
So if the album came out today with all the more advanced plugins, guitars that has organic string slide sound, attack, noises, it would have been fine cause it doesn't sound programmed?
@@rae5425 whooooosh
I hate the weird mid-synth beep boop guitar tone they have too. It sounds so ridiculously fake.
Same here it sounds like a slot machine a really bad one at best
that's the point bro
"What colour is your #LucasMann Ford Mustang anyway?"
I went to a Rings of Saturn show once because a friend of mine’s band opened. We left a few minutes into their set to go get tacos.
Tacos of Saturn? Better band name.
Were they good tacos?
Best comment on UA-cam. I would have done the same thing.
@@baronvonpenguin6112 they were pretty fucking good tacos. The place was packed so I’m sure we weren’t the only ones with that idea.
miles was an awesome member and having taken lessons with him i can say that he can play absolutely everything he ever played with rings flawlessly without any tricks. dudes a unit.
Why would anyone care what goes in in someone's personal life or other drama.
I could care less about how they got the results.
Bands use kick tracks so they don't have to play the complicated feet patters,
bands use backing tracks, lip sing, if they put on a great show who cares.
Absolutely perfect response. I don't give two shits what tricks or edits you use in the album; if you can duplicate it live, you're allowed to
this is such a stupid ass standard we only hold in this genre. good metal music has backing tracks live because good metal music has a lot of layers. this whole 'need to do it 100% live' shit is idiotic and leads to bad generic basic music with no room for evolution in composition.
Lucas said something about DI tracks. So that sounds like they *have* to run them through an amp first
@@sixstringtv1 I've watched his statement after your video. He mentioned DI signals for the 2 live guitar players and backing tracks. That makes more sense.
I showed RoS to a friend and the look on his face was both "just bit into a lemon" and "what the frig?" He asked did they make an effects pedal from a super nintendo? 😅
'Song' writing process.. if you can call it that way with a riff salad band like RoS.
I saw Rings live a few years ago and Lucas wasn't even there, it was pretty good.
When did Yngwie fail to acknowledge his collaborators?
As a fan of some of the music they have made, I do think they Are a legit band with their technical stuff, I mean I have tried to cover some of their songs and gotten close. However Lucas does seem like a bit of a drama queen more so than other musicians. Like Joel Omens who is in the band...but like yeah would like to see lucas not be an asswipe to be honest
You are a positive pauly.
Great video. On a side-note, I looked up Ryan Sinnott and damn is he a sick drummer. Lucas Mann might suck, but at least he found a great session drummer.
Ryan is a beast! Just sad that they had to resort to hiring someone who won't be in the band full-time
@@sixstringtv1 if they are smart they will lock him in as a member. The guy can play. Of course, he might make more money with their current arrangement for all I know.
no way this nigga just said lucas mann sucks
When he stayed at a friends house years ago, he was the only one oyt of the band not practicing their instrument when they stayed.
Update: Joel Omans has since left RoS, after the release of there newest single (at the time of writing) “Theogony”. And most importantly, Lucas is still a priss.
Miles is such a cool dude and insane player. After the way he was treated, I never cared for Lucas after. Total douche.
Watching him "play" live is one of the most hilarious things ever.....
pick up a guitar and practice you loser god damm
tbh the only thing that was somewhat likeable about rings of saturn was Miles Dmitri Baker. Some of the early Interloper was cool too.
"Not even promoting my shit, and still smoking your ass!" - Was a FB post of his that particularly made me cringe about as hard as humanly possible. Dunno who it was aimed at, but I'm sure it must've been a former member or something. Death metal Giga-Chad for sure!
Oh god 💀💀
Regardless of tracks sped up Lucas is terrifying guitarist. I don’t know what discredits his playing at (5:31) soloing over track that’s not his??
Right on. Thanks for sharing.
Bruh isn't your entire channel based on drama💀 Lucas sucks but cmon dude lol.
🤣
I never heard of Rings of Saturn. And I don't exactly feel any urge to look it up. Yep, I'm getting old, possibly...
Holy shit this is one of the best put together alternative pieces of media I've ever fuckin seen, love the content and definitely hooked, keep going! :)
Thanks! 😎😎 Lots more cool stuff coming soon
The fuck are you on about?
i love guitar players . they are some of the best people youd wish to meet .
ROS should have been huge. They could have been if Lucas' ego didn't get in the way.
Same thing with The Faceless. Michael Keene's ego thwarted the band's success
When passive aggressive rich kids are next level jealous
He said something like: "I only have synth tracks in my monitors and that's why it sounds weird". Okay so you don't want to hear what yourself are actually playing? Almost like the guy is connected directly to MIDI input or something :D Anyway, that music really makes me feel like a grandpa but I can still see it working for certain applications, like a video game soundtrack or something.
It sucks that this is the first video I see when I search for Lucas Mann. He's my favorite guitarist.
Good to know that its the first search result tho hahah
RoS dropped the ball hard after they lost the vocalist. The drop in quality from Gidim to the last album was just astounding.
You forgot about the stolen riffs for the track "the husk"
Can't remember the band but it was written years before in a previous project with Lucas Mann, from what I remember the song got scrapped but he used the riffs later
Oh and also, Miles Dimitri Baker is a great dude and you can tell his writing is all over ulta ulla
To be fair, he himself did also write that riff on The Husk as he was in it.
Using your own riffs isn't "stealing" lmao
Wait… if he wrote the riffs how is it stolen?
@@Durkhead i gotchu
Hey guys I met this guy a few times that means I know his intentions and deep personal growth
Damn,I guess that self-titled really gave him a lesson.
kinda like how after Glenn Danzig left, The Misfits kinda became the Jerry Only show
I used to work with his mom she was cool and very proud.
Love you calling that dude out
I loved Ultu Ulla, but all that confirms to me is that I'm a Miles Dmitri Baker fan, not a Rings of Saturn fan
I actually like RoS (....up to a certain point) and every time Lucas comes up all I can think of is Filthy Frank's old "IT'S TIME TO STOP" video.
Ever since I saw his response to Jared years ago, I then thought he was a tool. Still think that way.
"...beautiful and delicious benefits..."(sultry saxophone melody in background) That was a sexy channel plug you put together at the end there. Well done, sir, well done.
