My only issue with this is that the Whopper is always marketed as a flame-broiled burger, so not the same as a diner/smash burger. But other than that- looks great. And fries are surprisingly hard to make from scratch AND improve on what you can get in the freezer aisle.

Hey, Josh, you should do Steak and Shake's Portobello and Swiss Burger. Or maybe some classic dishes from Denny's, like the Grand Slam or the Country Fried Steak. Just throwing those out there.
I’ve been making mayonnaise with that technique for probably 3-4 years now. You don’t really have to worry about being gentle with the oil pour. Just dump it in - it’ll be fine.
There are 2 key features that are unique to the whopper. The large diameter, FLAME BROILED beef patty, and the matching diameter sesame seed bun. Everything else on the whopper is standard burger fare. The original whopper features the flame broiled patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mayo and ketchup. Because of the flavorfull flame broiling, I believe the original whopper stands tall on its own merit without all kinds of extras, including cheese, that other burgers seem to require. The homemade burger in this video may indeed be a tasty burger, but it's definitely NOT a homemade whopper. It is a pan fried double patty smash burger with mustard garlic flavored mayo, mustard again separately (a traditional whopper is mustardless), strange thin, stringy raw onions( these are great for sauteeing but present a completely different crunch and texture than a traditional whopper). I don't understand making custom buns that are not a large diameter to fit the patty, as is a whopper trademark, either. I know people load up their wh
I grew up in the 1960s and my mother had a French fry cutter. It made really thick-cut sticks of potato that she would fry in Crisco in an electric skillet on the kitchen counter. We'd eat them with ketchup. I don't remember her freezing them first. I really liked them. I don't know if I had a restaurant fry until a McDonald's opened in our town a few blocks away in 1966. Everybody was excited to try their 15-cent hamburgers. I didn't think their French fries were as good as my mother's. A year or two later an A&W opened a few blocks in the other direction. I thought their French fries were better than McDonald's. And they had great root beer.
Josh dunking on BK not once but TWICE for a Whopper convinces me that he was the kid who was teased for bringing his own lunch and swore vengeance upon the entire culinary world.
Steam the fries: dredge them in a starch them microwave them till softened, then fry. It's gives a pretty awesome fry: creamy, soft, and fluffy inside, and amazing crisp!
That looks like a damn good burger. The only thing I would change is I would cook the burger patties over charcoal to get that authentic BK flame broiled flavor, but understandable that it's not really possible to do that in your home kitchen.
Hmmm. Does Josh have a series for video game/television food? I mean, wouldn't that be awesome to have Josh have another cookbook purely for stuff like the Cake N' Bacon cakes from Fairly Odd Parents, or maybe the 'strange bun' from Stardew Valley?
I don’t eat ever Burger King and rarely fast-food for that matter. Your videos gave me the ideas to recreate some of my kids favorites from fast food restaurants minus the nastiness lol. ❤
Boys, to make the absolute best French fries, follow Josh’s recipe BUT after freezing, fry them once in oil on low temp until just forming a crust and then deep fry in duck fat until BEAUTIFULLY golden brown and hella cwispee
i really do not understand why you made this video, the WHOPPER is already absolute perfection, there is no need for such recreation of the beautiful product that is THE WHOPPER. thank you, LukeFlorp
I've been binging these and I commented on an earlier video about american cheese belonging specifically on burgers and grilled cheeses. I feel validated now.
I know you made it your way, but I might have to disqualify you Joshua. You did not charbroil the burger patties which BK has been doing forever. Your burger might be amazing, but I respectfully don't think it can be called a BK Whopper without being charbroiled. I saw no open-flamed grill, you made a smash burger. Of course I'm joking, but sort of not really.
We need a "But Cheaper" series where Josh ACTUALLY makes decent food WITH the CHEAPEST ingredients found. Like legit cheap ingredients, no name brands, nearly like dollar tree ingredients lol
See, the thing is - I got your book. I've done a few of your recipes. I got the hang of the cookies and the bread. I've done other recipes and I make a good cheesecake. These alone have impressed girls/women (and some men) around me. BUT THE LITERAL MOMENT the McDonald's fries' recipe drops... You're just pushing women into every man's arms at that point. Can't wait to add that to my repertoire :D
What about the whole broiling beats frying thing? Burger King burgers definitely taste distinctive because they are flame. Broiled. Smoke comes out of the buildings when they are making them.
I laugh at these kind of videos all the time, comparing a meal made with the best ingredients you can find, and spending hours on it, compared to making the meal within a certain price constraint, while replicating it multiple time an hour.
I'm guessing one of the steps you changed with the McDonald's fry is a quick high temp fry before the freeze and a fry oil that will make the fries more crisp like beef tallow or peanut etc etc.
Italian here, I love your videos, I’ve been following you for a long time and I’m a fan of your recipes. I dunno if this would help your french fries, but B.K have salt in the oil that they cook their (straight from frozen) fries in. Years ago when I worked there in N.Z, if someone asked for 'no salt' on their fries we would have to tell them that there's already salt on them because of the oil- but that we can leave off adding salt after cooking. Wether or not this affects the cooking temp and aids the crunch factor though, not sure? Cheers for the vids though- learning heaps since we've discovered this channel 😊
I already bought your cookbook before this video. I knew I'd made a great choice once you said American cheese only belongs on a burger and grilled cheese sandwiches. (It also goes well in scrambled eggs and omelets too though) I live in Wisconsin where 1/4 of my diet is cheese, I have 5 cheese houses within a 30min drive from my house but American cheese is important to my cooking.
