- So Fighting Game Crossovers and Guest Characters are certainly seemingly back in a big way lately, so in todays video I want to take a look back at one of the most important crossover games, the first ever capcom vs snk fighting game! The Match of the Millennium while being important is a bit lost to history, so lets learn about it and how it set the table for everything that came after it!

Its all about Crossovers, Guest Characters, and companies working together again in the Fighting Game Community so I figure lets take a look at one of the original collaborations! Capcom vs SNK is legendary, straight up. However when people think capcom vs snk, its almost always CvS2 and fair enough, but there was a first Capcom vs SNK fighting game, and that was the Match of the Millennium which not too many people know about, so in the spirit of the grand FGC love-in thats going on right now, lets learn about it and how many of its mechanics set the table for later games!
For those who have had the luxury to own one of the physical Neo Geo Pocket Colors, almost everyone will swear by that click stick. Legitimately the best handheld stick/d-pad ever, and still one of the few sticks I could consistently do the more involved commands on by demand. 360s, 720s, pretzels, Double Somersaults, etc., the clickstick let you do them with no issues whatsoever.
I had this game and the Neo geo pocket at launch..100% agree it was glorious!
Evo is soon, very soon. We know we got that Marvel vs Capcom collection coming. Perhaps in the spirit of the great FGC love in thats happening right now, we could get another collection? A CvS collection? sending positive energy towards that 🙏

One fun piece of time-context: At the time, the PS1 was infamous for not being able to handle tag team fighting games like the Vs series. It was MINDBLOWING that a handheld could handle it.
Still have my NeoGeo Pocket Color with this game, all characters unlocked. Best portable fighter ever.
I've always noticed that the "Ryu Super Moves History" or "Kyo Supers Evolution" kind of videos rarely mention this gem.
7:55 this is the best dan super taunt ever, its great how dan was capcom's joke character aimed at snk, and snk took the joke and ran with it
I forgot to mention in my other comments: one of the lovely aspects of this game? It takes its command throw ethos from SNK, meaning normal throws don't combo...but command throws DO. ANd I don't mean hit throws, I mean actual command throws. If you ever wanted to know what Zangief was like when you could properly combo directly into his piledrivers? This game lets you live that dream, and it feels just as powerful as you can imagine.
Great video! I miss retro aesthetics and the quality of games/tech 'Made in Japan'. I'd also add some Double Dragon and Metal Slug into the mix out of sheer sentiment. I was so close to visiting Japan at one point. I had experience with MoCap and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit the place that inspired artists like Toriyama San. R.I.P. and movies like Akira and Ghost in the Shell.

Capcom vs SNK 1 is superior in terms of aesthetics and presentation. Saying it's bland is odd to hear at first, but I respect your opinion.
CVS1 has my favorite presentation of any fighter. The stage introductions, the music, the menus. CVS2 has more of everything but CVS1 is the pinnacle of presentation in my opinion.

Edit: now that I've actually watched the video, what Capcom should do is bring Darkstslkers back but make it universally named Vampire Savior to capitalize of market confusion with Vampire Survivor. Hell, the should make the titular Vampire Survivor into a crossover character while they're at it.

Forgotten? I brought an NGPC specifically for it then brought it again on Switch.
I think forgotten is very fair to say considering most people don't know it exists, or even that the NGPC existed. I have never seen one of those in person.
I remember I was the only kid my age with a neogeo pocket color, and match the millennium was amazing.
Fittingly, since we're getting Terry in SF6 soon, Terry is so much fun in this game. The combos he can get, especially in the corner, are kind of crazy for a game like this. It feels like he has a bigger moveset in this than he does in some of the mainline Fatal Fury and KOF games.
I really hope SF6 gets 1 guest character from all the biggest fighting games that would be crazy after no guests

Man this SVC is nothing but le most precious to my heart...back in the days i was a damn french student moving to London; with a NeoGeo Pocket color as my only system..No Tv and few friends and i spent hours on mini-games and various tag or single matches.
But we have to tell the truth..the full experience is only vivid with the NGPC's fabulous stick!! Switch and Steam releases lack this physical experience.
NGPC is still an awesome system to get your kids into Metal Slug; SVC , Neo Turf Masters and Sonic. My 5yrs daughter is in love with it.

what I would do for a cvs2 collection
I played this gem of a game and I really appreciated it's replayability. Also for E.Ryu fans he has a unlockable super that I'm sure is only in this game where he shoots a MvC styled beam. This was a time to believe, and it's amazing to see how far we've come as a genre and fan base. Actually there's some games inspired by this and other NGP fighting games.

This game is a blast! I played it in emulator about 2 years ago and its visual style still holds up. There was a small indie game built to look like this but sadly its abandoned and never finished
I remember when I first saw and played Capcom vs SNK I was with my wife she was my girlfriend at the time at Super Kmart I looked over and saw Ryu vs Iori I was like oh my goodness I played it and I couldn't believe this actually happened my wife didn't know I was a nerd and that I grew up playing video games later on I she bought me Sega Dreamcast Game Cube PS2 and all the other systems I love playing Street Fighter to this day When she was pregnant and was going into labor with my first born I was playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 now all 3 of my kids play Street Fighter and own the 1up arcade systems thanks for this video memories
I think its important to note that this game is available to play today, its on Switch and Steam and its cheap (especially during all the summer sales). Its really fun, as explained in the video, but also has the typical emulator stuff like save states and rewinds.
I loved my NGPC, great little handheld. This and Cardfighters Clash were both great games.
I always wanted a NeoGeo Pocket Color when I was a kid but 1) my family was poor and 2) I could never find one in the game shops nearby. Would have loved to play the gems on that machine back then!
I bought the game twice, on pc and switch on release
when i was a wee lad i loved both "obscure" (only saw them in magazines cause i couldnt afford them) fighting games and handheld/portable consoles and SNK occupied so much of my mindspace with stuff like the various SNK fighters on the Neo Geo MVS and the Pocket/Pocket Color and seeing screenshots of this game in magazines absolutely blew my little mind away... irony being back then what i REALLY wanted is Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter but now i would maybe forsake every other fighting game on the market for a Capcom vs SNK 3
This game absolutely rules. All the NGPC fighters do, really. It's just a shame that nobody's ever gotten proper netplay to work; even the official rereleases only managed to pull off local multiplayer, and it's through an insane hackjob where it runs the game twice and dynamically reveals or hides the 2P screen.

Great video! I love the Code Mystics ports. Their Garou finally got me into SNK's fighting games thanks to the training mode after years of dismissing them (due to no practice mode in Mame lol)
While CVS2 is overall a better game I prefer CVS1's presentation (stage intros and Finest KOs in particular).
SVC MOTM is great and I love the unique Olympic minigames. I spent more time on the Felicia rhythm game than I care to explain.
I got the game on switch! I hope we get a Capcom vs SNK collection that includes all the games made by both companies.

I LOVED this game back in the day. I loved my Neo geo pocket, too. Friend of mine went to Japan and I got him to pick one up for me. Had it waaaay before the NA release. Felt pretty cool.😎
I had match of the millennium on original hardware and it was amazing. Neo Geo pocket was super fun to control mainly due to the weird stick
I still have my Neo Geo Pocket and this game. Still my favorite of all the Cap vs SNK games.

The NeoGeo Pocket was so fun! I'm pretty sure I played this back in the day and it was great. Fun fact: Their analog stick has yet to be matched on a portable system.
I want to say two things I highly recommend in CVS and MVC4:
1. (CVS): now that everything will be new after 20 years the game should be remake. Like the characters, mechanics and stages
2. (MVC4) they should create a new mechanic, not adding the stones, the new mechanic should be more like MKX where each character get a three variations and those variations should get there own special moves, advantages and disadvantages

its a really amazing game, so much fun and so much to do and also amazing mechanics and amazing roster, just an overall amazing game and its super cheap and on sale its a must buy!!

Loved the neo geo pocket color, had match of the millennium back in the day! Wish I would've kept it instead of trading it in for some Dreamcast games.
I still have a brand new boxed NGPC to SEGA Dreamcast link cable.... Everybody in our house had an NGPC and copy of that game. I regret selling mine years ago.
I bought the Neo Geo Pocket specifically because of this game. This game was the best and had so much content.

Shit, I remember this game it was a blast with an old friend of mine. Trying to remember if it was on the Saturn or Dreamcast as well.
I remembered I bought it when it came out in the Switch since it could be a potential for a new CvS like game since CvS2 was my favorite
