At last here is the CvS2 video! Capcom vs SNK 2 turns 20 years old later this year and simply put its one of the best fighting games ever made, hands down! So with that, its time to look back and the game and what made it so great, from the presentation, to the mechanics, to the almighty groove system and more! We can only hope one day its ported forward to modern systems, and hopefully in a way that involves rollback netcode :) This video took quite some time to make, so any likes/shares sincerely appreciated!

As much as I love CvS2. I'd say they could have made the cast and grooves more diverse. This was essentially Street Fighter vs KoF with just a few added characters from other games. I would have liked it if they had cut down on Street Fighter and KoF characters and added more characters from their other fighting games. And perhaps added a Dark Stalkers groove a Project Justice groove instead of A and P and so on.

@@rooflemonger that's cos people are dumb. Less than 0.1% of all the matches that will ever played on these games are not gonna be competitive/esports etc. Fighting games have never been only about pro esports. That's a tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny fraction of what makes up fighting games. Back in the 90s we used to play fighting games because we enjoyed them. That's it. They were just good games. Nowadays every naive fool who thinks they can win evo complains about the balancing in games even though you have to be a top 0.01% player in the world for any of that to actually make a difference. It's only at the very highest level that anything like that really matters.
Fighting games used to be good because they were games first, competitive sports second. It was fun to just play on your own in story mode.
But apparently now we have to accommodate all the people who are terrible and will always be terrible but think they'll actually be a successful pro esports player. It's so stupid. Make fighting games fun again. These aren't supposed to be a job, where you have to put in hours and hours of practice each day and if you never do that you'll never have fun. No these games are supposed to be fun regardless of skill level. At least the ones in the 90s and early 2000s did.
Even things like tier lists simply do not matter for 99.999% of players. They're just not good enough for it to matter. They can pick the best character in the game or the worst, there'll be no difference. It's only at the top level where the margins are so razor thin that those kinds of things really matter. I guess this is the modern day version of every kid getting a guitar and thinking they're gonna be a world famous rock star. They won't. They should just learn to enjoy having fun playing guitar for its own sake, not try to be competitive when they're not good enough.
Fighting games should go back to being fun, and the naive kids should stop kidding themselves. They're all so so so worried about balance even though they'll never be good enough for it to actually affect them. Just enjoy the game, play the character who you think looks the coolest, don't worry about any of the pro-level stuff, you'll never need it.
Like it you're gonna go play catch with someone, you don't need to do a months-long MLB training regimen and diet plan with personal world class trainers etc in the months leading up to the big day where you... play catch with your dad. No you just go and play catch. You'll never be good at baseball, you'll never be in the MLB, so don't worry about any of that stuff, and just try to enjoy what you _CAN_ do, what you _ARE_ capable of. Enjoy playing catch. Enjoy playing really dumb, sometimes when really badly made, fighting games. Like, I dunno, clayfighter. It ain't a good fighting game but it's very fun, it's a hell of a lot more fun than trying to jump into a modern street fighter game. And therefore it's the better game. Seriously. Clayfighter is better than street fighter 4 and 5. And it's because those street fighters have lost what made them popular in the first place, EVERYONE played street fighter, and nobody was really very good at it for years, not until tournaments began popping up with legitimate cash prizes, mostly after the 20th century had already ended. Everyone played street fighter before then, and nobody was really very good at it relative to today, and so practically anybody could win at least a few rounds, so everyone had a good time and enjoyed it. Who's gonna casually pick up a fighting game these days? It's something you have to commit to these days, like a job, you have to be dedicated to getting better at it, otherwise you don't have fun with it at all, and even if you do get good at it it's never really fun, not in the way street fighter 2 was.
It was so much better back in the day when people weren't going "hmm I could play as Zangief but he doesn't have a lot of good options for overcoming projectile spam blah blah blah blah". No, people just went "hah, that Russian wrestler guy looks cool, I'll pick him". That's what fighting games don't have anymore.
Over balancing makes most fighting games worse, not better. Not every single character needs to have every option. Like you don't need to give Zangief zoning tools. Keep each character very distinct. Not every character has to be top tier.

A bit of lore on Shin Akuma in this game - it's actually not the same kind of Shin Akuma/Gouki as usual.
The 'standard' one, like how he appears in the Alpha games and 2nd Impact, has Shin written as 真 "True", cause it's basically Akuma going all out and not holding back.
Now the Shin Akuma in this game has Shin written as 神 "God", cause he absorbed Orochi power from Rugal and reached a new level of power.
It's also worth noting that the character on this 'God' Akuma's back is different than usual. It's usually 天 "Heaven", as in beyond human, but in this game it's actually two characters 神人 "God-Man", as in one who has reached godhood.
So it's basically God Rugal vs God Akuma in this game ;)

As much as I would love to see a sequel, I think a remake of this game would be way better. In todays state of games, devs would release cvs3 with less than half of the roster, and charge the rest as dlc. A proper seqel is suppose to be bigger with more features and better, that would not be the case sadly. At least in the bigger department.

I have to say, though I never played this before, I see that its aesthetics hold to this day! The music and art, details, etc. You didn't set "True Love We Makin'" as your outro theme for nothing!
I even gave its entire playlist a listen, and I really enjoyed the detail of hearing the announcer as you pick your character! It sounds so inspirational, like a kid walking at the arcades and/or seeing the tournament on the big screen! It's a shame I missed out on such a gorgeous looking fighting game! :D

I could see them going a bit more into the MvC side of things because there’s no MvC in sight nowadays. Morrigan was already pushing it, among others, but who’s to say they don’t go further. Basically everyone unironically wants Fio, they could fish out a Mega Man character to be her counterpart, and Power Battle/Fighters open the floodgates to the series.

This is such a classic for me! I don’t remember how I got it. I think I got it as a gift way back then. However I got it, I ended up LOVING it!
I love the character selection and the groove choices like most people even though I didn’t understand every nuanced intricacy back then. I think S-Groove was my favorite though. Loved the DBZ style power up, parry/counter, and dodge! Also the unlimited Lvl 1 supers!
Favorite characters were Shin Akuma, Ultimate Rugal, Rock(Neo Deadly Rave!!), that samurai girl in red(very dramatic supers), and Ryu. Was very bewildered when both Shin Akuma and Ult Regal transformed, but it was cool as hell. There’s other too, but that’s who I can think of right away.
This is my third favorite fighting game behind Marvel vs Capcom 1 and Tekken 3 in that order! And yes, the soundtrack is fire- this is the true love we’re making is burned into my head lol. Ah, such good times! Time to boot it up today now.
