    You CAN use a SDXC card in stead of SDHC. If you format in NTFS, you can go larger than 32gb.
    I currently have a 256gb SDXC sd card formatted in NTFS and it works flawlessly in my Pioneer 4100nex.
    If you have a MAC, you may have to download an app like i did in order to format in NTFS. I went with "NTFS For MAC" which has a 10 day free trial, and $19.99 to buy outright. I used free trial to test, when i realised it worked i bought so i can update down the line.
    I now have a ton of music, movies and videos stored on sd card that plays thru Pioneer 4100nex.

    We have an AVH 2501-NEX, connected the USB 2.0 to both USB ports and neither will recognize any phone, SD card in USB reader adapter, or even small thumb drive. All attempts have lead to an on screen prompt directing that the USB device is not recognized or format error. Any suggestions?

      Please be more specific about the Pioneer model number. I do not recognize AVH 2501-NEX. You can usually find the Pioneer model number printed near one of the corners of the face of the in-dash receiver. If that is a typo and you mean "5201-NEX", I have the same stereo and had the same problem. My issue was the formatting on the thumb drive. I was using exFAT which gave me back "Incompatible USB". Once I switched to a thumb drive formatted in FAT32, my issues went away. I've also seem something somewhere about a max capacity of 32 GB but I haven't tried anything bigger that 16 GB so I don't know if that throws the same error or a different one. Good luck!

      Many Pioneer receivers have the USB port on the back. They include a USB extension cable that is installed when the dash is taken apart and the receiver is installed. You can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/B2TTfJUD-es/v-deo.html Depending upon the vehicle, a couple common locations to run the USB extension cable is to the glove box or the center console. This makes it hidden from view and yet easily accessible to the driver.

      Deckerd Otto thanks! I have it working. The only downside is when CarPlay is connected, you cannot play SD/USB to rear. I’m going to try a firmware update, but I think it’s a “Feature”... I wonder if there is another NEX model that can handle the Sd to rear when CarPlay is active?

    When I add additional CDs to my USB drive as I purchase them, it seems to take the NEX-4200 hours or days to reindex the music such that I can use the yellow folder buttons to advance through album choices. The folders don't appear for a very long time and I cannot use the button on my steering column to advance albums either. I have to go to the directory and scroll through and manually select the music choice. I find that difficult while driving and I'd much rather just hit a button and browse through the music choices. Why does it take so long for an updated USB to be indexed and is there some fast way to get that to work?

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 5 років тому

      When you add music to the USB Flash drive ( or SD Card) , the in-dash receiver will work in the background to update the music database. Depending upon what music source you are using, and the number of new songs and artists, this may take some time to update the music database. I'm not aware of a way to force this operation to make it faster. Another option is to delete the music database from the USB flash drive when you are adding new music. When you insert a USB drive for the first time, the AVH-4200NEX will read the information on the USB drive and create a readable database of track information and then write that data to the USB flash drive. When you touch the search function, the in-dash receiver is reading from the database it created on the USB flash drive. The next time you put some new music on the USB flash drive, you could also delete the database that was created by the in-dash receiver. When you put the USB drive into the in-dash receiver, it will see the flash drive as new and create a new searchable database. The more music you put on the drive the longer this will take. Overall, this may not be faster, but it is a more immediate process. Please be sure to have the latest firmware update installed on your in-dash receiver. @@deckerdotto6035 I'm glad you replied and I appreciate the info. Here's an update to my experiences though, and it's odd...
      So I added four more albums to this 256Gb Sandrive last night. I then plugged it into the usb port as usual, but I didn't turn the engine on. Just turned the key to get power to the radio. I noted right away that the usual two yellow folders were missing on the screen. That is indicative of the issue. I couldn't step through my albums with my steering wheel button, nor those yellow folders. But I did go into the music directory and chose both tag and then file, which I like better. I scrolled from top to bottom a couple of times, then shockingly, the two yellow folders appeared. That whole sequence only took about ten minutes vs hours or days usually. I don't know precisely what I did to fix the problem, but I have a plan for next time and it seems it might be only that I need to browse the whole directory. I'll update this thread if that fixes the problem. Thanks again. I'm cautiously ecstatic with last night's victory. Just to give folks an idea of what I'm storing; so far it's 90gb of mostly wav files....a few flac. 1571 files and 155 folders on a 256Gb Sandisk Ultra USB 3.
      I was hoping that I could also buy a huge HDSD for the front slot, but I have read that the limit on that is 32Gb which doesn't do me much good. Anybody have luck with a larger drive?

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 5 років тому

      You may consider using an SD card for a particular type of music or a particular artist, or alphanumeric group. For example, you might put all of your Classical music on the SD card. And when you want to listen to that type of music, you can go to the SD card source. When you search the SD Card, only artists of that music type are in the search function. If both USB ports are available, you can use USB 1, and USB 2 as independent sources. This will lower the number of files on the USB 1 or USB 2 source, making searching easier on all 3 sources, USB 1, USB 2, and SD Card.

This is the same for Pioneer AVH-500EX, AVH-600EX, AVH-601EX, and the newer model AVH-521EX. Please note, you must add on the tuner. In order to see your iPhone screen on the Pioneer AVIC-W8200NEX screen, you must use the Apple Digital AV Adapter. You can see it here: www.abt.com/product/91156/Apple-Lightning-Digital-AV-Adapter-MD826AMA.html The Apple Digital AV Adapter requires an HDMI cable to the back of the receiver, and an Apple USB-A to Lightning connection. Please clarify your question. What model of iPhone are you using? What is the error message? CDMI? Or HDMI? Where does the error message appear? On the phone or on the in-dash receiver? Are you attempting to play a video from the phone? Is the video copyright protected? Have you tried to use a different good quality HDMI cable? You'll need to engage the vehicle's Parking Brake in order to see video on the in-dash receiver's screen. If you engage the Parking Brake and can not view video the in-dash receiver's Green Parking Brake Wire may have an incorrect connection to the vehicle's. • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 4 роки тому

      What is the model number of your Pioneer in-dash receiver? On Pioneer receivers that have 2 USB ports, for example, the AVH-4200NEX, only USB port 2 can be used for Android Auto. USB Port 1 is used for Apple CarPlay and will not work for Android Auto. Both USB1 and USB2 need to have a USB flash drive, or a phone plugged in before they become active sources. It's normal operation for the USB source to be grayed out if you don't have a USB flash drive plugged in. You can't select the USB1 or USB2 source unless there is something plugged in. USB1 and USB2 are independent sources. One or both can be operated independent from the other.
      I recommend to press the in-dash receiver's microprocessor reset button. You'll need a paperclip or some other small point to press the microprocessor reset button. You can find the microprocessor reset button on the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX on the hard key panel to the far right.
      If you want to use a USB flash drive, please be sure you are plugging the USB flash drive directly into the back of the in-dash receiver. If you are trying to use a vehicle factory USB port, it may not be connected to the back of the in-dash receiver.
      For Android Auto: Are you in the US or a country where google supports Android Auto?
      Do you have the Android Auto App downloaded and installed on your android based phone?
      Are you using a high quality cable that is plugged directly into USB port 2 on the back of the Pioneer in-dash receiver? Just because a cable will charge the phone does not mean it will carry the data necessary for Android Auto. Don't expect a $1 cable from a gas station to work.
      You can find a full video about setting up Android Auto here: ua-cam.com/video/6Ld4zXlNCsw/v-deo.html
