I’m jealous of these guys, because I’ve always wanted to move away to a remote town with a very small population density, but never got the courage. I was born in Russia, raised there till age 13. So I did grow up watching my parents grow a large portion of our food. We also kept chickens on our property. In Russia I grew up surrounded by beautiful, wild nature. At age 13, my parents decided to move our family to USA Florida, because we had family here. So for the past 25 years I’ve lived in Florida. I could never get used to the heat & humidity here in Florida. I really miss Russian nature & climate, but have never been back to Russia. We no longer have any family left there. I love the whole Earth at large, with all of the different landscapes, and ecosystems, but my heart goes to northern landscapes, ecosystem and climate. I enjoy being on a sandy beach with palm trees and tropical climate, but I would much rather be on a northern hemisphere. I wouldn’t mind living off grid, but the only thing I do want is electricity. At least enough electricity to power some parts of the house. Also Internet access. I guess that’s not really considered of grid. I am good with my hands and don’t mind getting dirty and working hard. I can cook, bake, and would love to start a garden. I even want to learn how to build things. I do not mind isolation at all, and would actually prefer it. So a life such as yours, so self-sufficient, so close to wild nature, would be perfect for me. You guys inspire me, and I very much admire you two for being brave and following your dream to live an authentic off grid life

The Chaga...I put a small piece about the size you had in your hand and simmer it until the water turns brown, remove the chaga and use it again until all the goodness is out... I have used mine up to three times, when the colour turns light you have seeped all the goodness out of it. I like drinking it without sugar or milk, it has a wonderful taste.
Don’t often get to see Denali. It hides because it is so large it creates its own weather. You answered my question about Chaga. (It grows on birch trees).
Amazingly beautiful and expansive! I figured in Nov y'all be knee deep in snow. I had friends that moved to Fairbanks from Las Vegas. Air Force transfer. Apparently it is much colder and way snowier up thata way. Heather called me one morning to tell me she threw her coffee out of her cup, outside, and it froze in mid air. this was in Dec. They too moved there just prior to winter. Brave! Seeing Denali is lovely. The mountain is a magical place according to indigenous lore. The more I watch your adventure, the more I feel like I could spend some time there. With the proper clothes of course. Currently I have nothing except a really good rain jacket. I have settled in Guatemala highlands. Land of eternal spring this area is referred to. Hot daze are 80 ish and cold is high 40s...Its July now and this is the rainy season, April-Nov and is considered winter. Yes still north of equator. There are really two seasons here, Rainy and not..equally about 6 mo ea. I have watched several, about 15, of your videos and I must say that the two of you have great presence on camera.. Thrilled to be along for the ride as I have learned a thing or two

My boyfriend and family have their cabin on 15 acres on Neil Lake in Willow (off road) and I absolutely LOVE everything about the area and their cute little town. You said it! Plenty of fishing, hunting and beautiful scenery. I visit every time I come up to AK. I'm moving my family to Palmer from Kansas, and looking forward to our cabin being built in Willow one day... but for now - family cabin does just fine for a relaxing getaway!

Watching your vlogs make me want to move up there in the summers and spend retirement times fishing and enjoying the beautiful area. We did visit there last September and this past June.
I knew you guys were close to my friends place. Im the one who asked you guys if you were close to Talkeetna. Im from the bay area also. But i live in the foothills now. I have friends that live of the Parks highway on East Montana Creek rd in Willow. Willow is a large area. They are down the road from Cubbys grocery store! Such a small world! Beautiful scenery as usual. Love it. I have heard that the black part of the chaga has a lot of beneficial properties also. We have Red Belted Polypore here in our woods and maybe Reishi. I haven’t seen any Chaga yet. I was going to go look for Red Belted today but the wind was blowing and it was pouring rain. Hoping to hit it tomorrow. Take care.

We went to Denali park a month ago and didn’t see jack. It was completely foggy. Bummer. Maybe next time I come up. Cool video, I just made an in town video as well. lol we had family come in from Fairbanks plus we had to vote👍
It is my understanding that chaga is usually higher up on the trees. You may need climbing equipment to get to most of it, if my information is correct

We have thought about moving down to Willow. It seems nice. I wonder what the temps are like. I’m Fairbanks we don’t get much wind at all, which is very nice. I also wonder about the snow levels. We get three to seven feet per year and it lasts for six plus months in our limited time here. (Five years). Thank you for your videos. I’d love to see an updated video on your house and a drone shot of your property. I’m very curious how you laid it all out. Also, did y’all add dirt to your space? (Extend out into the marsh) I did not know there were houses up near Hatcher pass. My family and I parked right there on the parks (where y’all turned out onto the parks.) and drove up the pass a ways. Beautiful area to be sure. Cheers.

A big pile of fire wood is better than money in the bank. Sorry that driving through Canada was such a PITA and that the gas is so expensive, just think how much we like it... If i can quote Mel from Firefly, "that's what governments do, get in a mans way" I am interested to see how the bees do, i never thought someone could keep bees that far north and in Styrofoam boxes. I guess you have your reasons for using a shallow brood box but most all people i know use deeps. Thanks for posting and yes, i was curious about why you moved "up" there.
rain coast, it bamboozled me as well that they can survive in those boxes but apparently it really does work, I went with medium boxes for less weight and to simplify things by using all the same size, deeps are definitely common though for the hive body. Canada was such a beautiful place to drive through but more expensive than what we were use to paying for gas.
Cheers Mate from England,. Is there actually salmon under that river now or have they already gone down stream. We use to live off the Columbia River Gorge in a little town called Goldendale, Washington not far from the John Day Dam in Oregon up from The Dalles, Oregon coming from Portland towards Idaho. We went under the dam were and they had a huge wall you could look through a thick wall of glass or plexiglass and watch the salmon swimming up stream. Was amazing and they were huge.
Do they have 911 for emergency ? How long would take them to get to you? Good thing you don’t have little one yet ! I would be scared to live so far from hospital ☹️ this is not for kids and old people ! Enjoy while you can 👍

Never use sugar for herbal teas. Honey only. And chaga chunks can be used more than once for that as well.

Dorene Nagy the closest hospital is about 1 hour away and we have grown over the 14 years we have spent together this wasn't always the plan 😀
