I have been watching your channel for about 2 weeks now. And I am really enjoying your videos. I live on the east coast of Canada. And I am from Maine and have been living in Canada most of my adult life. I was up to Alaska for a vacation about 15 years ago and I loved it. I hope you 2 have a fantastic life in Alaska.
Hi Lisa. I’ve been considering doing this as well. I’m in Maryland. It wouldn’t be until at least summer 2022 or 2023. I have two dogs now. It may still be that when I go. Did you feel safe when you were alone?
@@melanieevans5600 Hi Melanie, No, I wasn't scared at all. I welcomed the adventure. I camped all the way up. The U-Haul was set up in the back as kind of like an Rv. Boxes up towards the front and then some furniture. The couch was put in last facing the back door. So if it was raining out, I didn't have to put up a tent, I could just put my sleeping bag on the couch and sleep there. I had camping gear so I have a small battery operated lantern and a cooler filled with stuff to make sandwiches. It was a great trip. You can't go into it being afraid, you'll never get here then.
@@lisablake4237 Thanks so much for the insight. I really appreciate it. I’m curious how it works now with the Covid madness and trying to cross into Canada from the US. I have wanted to do what the two of you are doing for fifty years. How great is it. You take that big bite out of life and let me see what I missed. My father helped build the alcan highway during WW2.
I lived in Springfield (late 90s)... I miss the geography of Oregon. Lived there less than a year until my wife and I split up and I left (she was from Oregon and I moved her back after she'd been away a decade+). At least I got her back with her family, she's still there to this day.
The first time I went over the AlCan highway was in 1959 - it was soooooo terrible - dusty, gravel, narrow, windey - at least they have straightened it, and paved it.

LOL, I’m watching your life (videos) in reverse. I’ve watched some of your canning/cooking videos and didn’t realize you have your whole journey to Alaska on video! I’m so jealous; I have the pioneering spirit but the flesh (and pocketbook) is very weak- we’ve been living a conventional life in the lower 48 raising 7 kids over the last 36 years. And the grands started coming along too. Now it’s too late for us. But I hope to visit Alaska one day!
I’m watching in reverse too. My granny was from Canada and as the oldest granddaughter I was always promised to be the first grandchild to go to Canada with them. Unfortunately my grandpa died and I got married so I never made the trip. Watching these videos is like taking that t4ip with them. The scenery is gorgeous! I would love to go still but the arthritis wouldn’t be very good in that cold weather.
I also lived in Cottage Grove before moving north. Love watching these earlier videos of the start of the journey, I started watching your channel because of the earth bag root cellar, about a year ago. So amazed what you’ve built in such a short time!
Hello. My husband and I have been watching your videos for a couple of months now. I thought I'd go back to your beginnings with your videos & AK adventures. He and I lived in Alaska about 6 years ago. Due to his job, we had to move from Eagle River, AK to where we are now in mid-Pennsylvania. We took the route through the Yukon and went through Toad River and down through Jasper/Banff Parks. It was just gorgeous. We had to pull our car through the Yukon and I totally understood when you showed the dirt on your car. Our Kia Soul was just solid dirt by the time we got to the Montana border. We stopped at the sign forest, too. Just a beautiful drive, especially through the Provincial Parks. We did 5000 miles to get to PA and I ended up with a blood clot, so to anyone who wants to do a trip like this, make sure you stop and walk as much as possible. We had a deadline and unfortunately the last few days of our trip we didn't stop too much. But I will always remember the things we saw as being the best trip I have ever been on and I'm fairly nomadic. Both my husband and I loved living in AK. However, we decided that we needed to come back to the lower 48 due to family and our ages. He recently retired. We really enjoy watching both of you and all your adventures in AK. We miss the fishing, foraging, scenery, and even the beautiful winter snows. So it's been great that we can live a little vicariously through both of you. Ah, if only we were younger, I think we would be doing what you are doing. But hopefully, we'll be able to go back for a visit one day. We are planning to move, at least, back West and closer to getting there. There really is no place on earth like Alaska and living there truly is a dream come true. Enjoy and much luck to your continued off-grid success! Sue
God bless you both . Just watched your recent episode about butchering moose meat and grounded , that’s a lot of good burgers and meat balls . Anyway just started to watch your day 1-7 or 2600miles journey I love it Erick you’re so lucky to have a motivated and smart partner. I wished I can go back 30years younger on my life to pursue my dream leaving off grid in wilderness.
Beautiful record of your travel up to Alaska! Such a picturesque journey must have frustrated the photographer in you both as you needed two hands on the wheel! But you have certainly made up for that!
Remember to press the like button folks it really helps the channel grow. Lots of views but not so many likes, it's easy to forget to press I know. Really enjoying catching up on your story, the filming is wonderful, great drone footage. I came to your channel through the food challenge so I'm finding out how it all came about. Hats off to you for courage! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Yes I’m committing on a 5yr old video. From 1992-98 I commercial fished in Alaska, everywhere in the state. Had a deal to buy 25 acres on Mitkof Island ( Petersburg). Came home to California between seasons and bought a lobster boat and meet a pretty girl. That pretty girl has been my wife now for 27 years. And I haven’t been back to Alaska since. I wouldn’t change anything but I’m JEALOUS to say the least about you two. Keep Safe and Well.
Thank you for sharing your journey and some of the places you seen with us! The drone footage was amazing! Your dogs looked so happy to be on this adventure with you guys. Thanks for another great video
Loved your journey to Alaska from Oregon. Just subscribed 11/20/21 and I’m catching up on your past, road trip and new homestead and I’m loving it. Much love and catch y’all later ❤️👍🙏🇺🇸
Hey i am writing you from germany, I just started to look your videos from the beginning. It's so inspiring to see your start of the new chapter of your live and how it is going now. It is crazy how much german signs are there in the collection. The germans are everywhere :)
So fun watching your video from the beginning I am now through about five or six of them to the part where you’re journeying into Alaska so exciting after watching you in Alaska it’s so nice to see the beginning.
How smart to do it with an RV! Long time watcher, but I’m going back and re-watching from the beginning. So excited to see it grow from the ground up so to speak!
I'm so glad all your new videos don't have this "popular UA-cam" type of music anymore. Can't wait to get out of Oregon and head to Alaska like you guys did. Definitely an inspiration.
I was so excited I had to comment! I can see our sign hanging at 15:05! We have such good memories driving the ALCAN with our kids, and it was fun to show them our sign still hanging there. Love your videos too. We are Alaskan, and love to see others living the Alaskan dream.
Hi...i've been watching your life story from the start of your journey to Alaska what 3 yrs ago?..i love simple living and appreciate your channel so much...lots of inspiration and knowledge on how to leave within your means and living with nature...i love the food preservation and food preparation. We're living in a tropical country (PH) and honestly lots of food can be grown throughout the year and we're not challenged to do food preservation but the onset of pandemic and lockdowns made me think to live like yours...love you and take care of each other... from Philippines.
I live in MI and have been to Canada many times, and have the same experience as you did. Right through the border, don’t forget to call your bank before hand. I got the firewood question a lot in the past, due to the Emerald Ash Borer. I used to go back and forth so much to camp that they would just see my history when they pulled up my plate and knew why I was crossing.
😂🤣 This video brought back memories. The first time I stepped off of the plane in Alaska- this ol Florida gal had never seen snow, and it was eh close to 90 degrees when I left... It was snowing and 30 when I get there. I thought I was going to freeze to death...IN my flip-flops.. 😂 When we drove out, we were in an 8 hour blizzard at -35, SOO, we didn't see a good portion of the scenry.. We were worried about crossing the border as well. When we get there, the person inside opened a window and yelled, where are you heading..My husband yelled back to the lower 48..He yelled again, how long will you be in Canada? Again my husband said just as fast as we can get out..The guy said..drive safe and slammed the window closed it was snowing so hard and SO danged cold.... 😂 I forgot about the Peace River. I fished there a few times. Good times..well in the summer...
2:43 a.m. in the morning I could not go to sleep until I watched this whole video to find out where you were going. What are Adventure. I just could not imagine picking up like that leaving I got homesick looking at all that beautiful land and hearing that music at the end. My husband is in heaven he died at a young age but I still think I would get home sick even if we travel together like you both did. Only you didn't tell where you started out from. And I couldn't tell by the map. God bless take care I'm glad you both have each other.
Oh I am having so much fun following you two I love the drone footage you are so brave. Thank you for sharing. Praying for you for health and safety 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I have been trying to convince my husband to move to Alaska from Connecticut, no go =( I am living vicariously through you guys lol. Love your channel!
As a career Army Officer I have experienced the challenges of moving to a new post both in the U.S. and in Germany and Korea. Although the military moved our household goods we would have to take a few housekeeping items of an immediate need upon arrival. But in several cases we did not have an opportunity to find a place to live or even see the area until we arrived. In the days before the Internet, GPS, Cellphones or Drones, there was no greater excitement than embarking on the journey to a distant place having no idea what you would find when you got there.
Because of the rona BS I started watching You Tube instead of the TV in March 2020...this was one of the early channels but this clip was in front of me so I finally got to see your first part of this journey.
Well I’ve been watching your channel for about a year and had never seen this video. I’m going to have to go back and watch all your other older videos. 😍
Thanks for documenting this, I loved watching your journey. My wife and I have dreamed of moving up there and in the past year we can't stop talking about it. In January we will be visiting up there for the second time to see if we can manage the cold and long nights, we don't suspect it will be an issue, but we would rather be wise and test it out before making such a life changing decision. I'll be watching and subscribing to your channel to try to pick up any tips we can before we uproot our family and pursue the dream of Alaska.
@@birdie7776 Not yet. We are weighing our options and are trying to use wisdom. That's a massive move and would require some big disconnects from our family in the lower 48.

I feel like I'm travelling with you all, thanks for all the beauty..
Watched so many of your vlogs in Alaska so I know it went well but this video is making me SCARED and EXCITED all at the same time!
Loved your journey to Alaska from Oregon. Just subscribed 11/20/21 and I’m catching up on your past, road trip and new homestead and I’m loving it. Much love and catch y’all later ❤️👍🙏🇺🇸
I just discovered your channel yesterday and couldn't be more happier for the 6 of you! Congratulations on following your heart!
Jody Mooney thank you 😀
Hey i am writing you from germany, I just started to look your videos from the beginning. It's so inspiring to see your start of the new chapter of your live and how it is going now.
It is crazy how much german signs are there in the collection. The germans are everywhere :)
Schon ein geiles Leben da oben in Alaska. Nächstes Jahr geht's für mich auch dorthin.
So fun watching your video from the beginning I am now through about five or six of them to the part where you’re journeying into Alaska so exciting after watching you in Alaska it’s so nice to see the beginning.
Some amazingly beautiful areas you traveled through. Thanks for sharing. Love your channel.
Watch recent posts; going back to beginning!!! So good! 👍👍👍
That’s a loooong trip. Glad to see I’m not the only one getting 10/12 miles per gallon.
Enjoy each and every day! Your special being together sharing life and many adventures ahead of you.
I love your channel! Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone!
Your dogs couldn't be happier!!
I started watching them last night at like 67k ish and now they are at almost 71k! So happy for you guys! LOVE the videos!
How fortunate you made the move BEFORE Corona virus hit. Others were not so fortunate.

What a great road trip. Beautiful scenery!
I really enjoyed watching this video. My husband and I have driven both to and from Alaska. This brought back memories of the time we lived there!
Salute the human in you out on endeavours and adventures and how you get along and respect like friends. Love from India 🏵🤩
Beautiful view but music was too loud.
T D and obnoxious music. Love the dogs and horses!!
I remember driving back to California from Alaska when I left the U.S. Army. What an adventure! Took me 12 days! I sure miss being up there.
Samuel Tomasello go back
Thank you for serving
Because of the rona BS I started watching You Tube instead of the TV in March 2020...this was one of the early channels but this clip was in front of me so I finally got to see your first part of this journey.
Well I’ve been watching your channel for about a year and had never seen this video. I’m going to have to go back and watch all your other older videos. 😍
Adoro vocês dois. Abraços do Brasil.
😂
😮😂😢
Nice to see Hunter….my first. Timewharf a lovely journey!
I love the channel!! I just saw a sign from my city- Carson City, NV in the sign post footage! I'm moving to Alaska on a month!💛 must be a good omen!
Did you move there? I would love to move there.
@@birdie7776 Not yet. We are weighing our options and are trying to use wisdom. That's a massive move and would require some big disconnects from our family in the lower 48.
Awesome adventure. But my niece lives in Cottage Grove. I've visited there many times. Love it there! So if you left there for where you are, it must be AMAZING. My husband and I love your story and can't wait to see your next one. You are very inspiring. And your garden is beautiful.
i went to mexico on a motorcycle so I agree with you both every border is different love your channel keep up the good work
out of all the hot springs I've been to Laird is my fav. Loved it so much I've been there vacationing a few times.
Awesome video! Loved seeing you on this trip...have been binge watching your videos for a week now but just found this one. I had no idea how long of a trip you had or where you moved from. Wow, what a long journey.
I did this same trip in ‘84 from Vermont. I stayed for a little more than 2 years and loved the hot springs going both ways. Love your channel ❤️👍🏼
