  • We head into Hatcher Pass with our Polaris Ranger to cook up some great food over a campfire. The skies clear up and we get stellar views of the surrounding mountains, including Denali.

      I came here to say this. Whilst many cultures have something similar, bannock bread is unequivocally Scottish and was popularised in the new world by Scottish settlers.

    “A little dirt is good for ya” said an old lady farmer who lived down the road from us when I was a kid. Wow, I can smell that every time you lift the lid. When I first met my now wife, our first date and meal together was out in the forest just like you guys are doing. Our oldest daughter now lives off grid in the bush.

    I love how hunting dogs always run out front. My Goldens were close working, but my Setters liked full on running. I love how the hounds are like that too. I Have had friends that hunted with hounds, for bears, not my type of hunting, but I would enjoy watching those dogs hunt.

    Hi to the two of you. I really enjoy the way you present the "Simple Living Alaska" journals this is very well done. If it's possible can you devote some time to showing how you make the "drone" flights above you and capture all the spectacular views! Also why does't the camera "shake'" when your filming? Thanks for all the first class adventures, I love the progress and it's addicting. Thanks for continuing I love to follow You Both. Great Team !!!!

    • @miarosie
      @miarosie 2 роки тому +2

      Hi Bert, two years down the line, but … most good drones have a ‘follow’ feature where you can set it to follow alongside or behind the handset / controller so the vehicle can be driving way off and the drone will follow at whatever height they select. (I did see one go awry once and through the rear window of a chaps vehicle. I believe it was MAV on youtube.
      Re camera shake, do you mean from the drone or hand held? Most folk will use a gimbal handle which keeps the camera steady as you move, a little like how a hammock is stationary in a moving ship. 🙂

    My step-father was Native (he passed away) and Eric is right, Bannock is Canadian. It's such a simple bread, but us 4 kids thought it was a real treat--so much so, that we would stand around the stove and watch Mom while it cooked, and rush to the table as soon as it came off the stove waiting for our share! lol I just found you guys and have to confess I've been binge watching your videos. Just love ya's and your videos! Kudos from New Brunswick, Canada! :)

    It is always interesting to watch others cook outdoors for you learn so much and your food looked fantastic. Even when I lived up there to see Mt. McKinley and Mt. Foraker together like that was somewhat rare but when you could, what a superb sight. Even flying between Anchorage and Fairbanks it was rare to see the mountains in their glory. I had left Alaska when they changed Mt. McKinley to Mt. Denali and what a shock! Have a great day!

    Nice job picking your way up through the rocks. The dog in the back seemed to have very good suspension too. The stew looks delicious, does anything taste better than homegrown food cooked in the out doors over a fire? Putting the vest on the dog got a laugh out of me, he is going to have to grow a better pelt next year!
