Darn, I usually confirm that but must have forgotten on this video. I just looked back through my recorded footage and don't see anything. Sorry about that. I'm going to pin this comment and hopefully someone else who still has the card can check for you.
I liked, its different from the normal heatsink, i would 100% have one of these on my rig, its very clean, but i guess that for now ill stay with my xfx, that 4080 is too expensive😂
Great looking card. Fan layout reminds me of Founder's Edition cards. Refreshing to see something different. Vertical mounting makes sense with this one.
Yeah, I think MSI did a great job with the design. I hadn't thought of vertically mounting it. I should get myself a vertical mount for my Corsair 5000D test bench system and show off both ways for people. Thanks for the idea!
@@JohnLCharette This would be perfect cause I’m thinking about vertically doing mine now. I’ve have the GPU since July and I really want to show off that heatsink!!!
Just randomly got here and I really like that you answer most of the comments, shows a lot about your character, keep it up the good work man. And nice review of the card
Aww, thank you so much. I try and reply to most comments. I get a few trolls that I ignore, but most people are good humans :) Glad you enjoyed the review. Are you considering buying one?
idk bro, 75C is not cool as cucumber, and while drawing only about 300W, i would expect better temps for how much it costs. i know you can set a custom fan curve, but still...
Yeah, it's a good point. I just compared it to the 4080s that I reviewed and most of them stayed in the 60s. Hmm.. to me, 75C still isn't bad considering it doesn't thermal throttle until 88C.. but still, it could have been cooler. Consider, those tests were done at 30% fan speed.
It might just be the luck of the draw cause I just picked mine up the other day and my core temps depending on game are between 60-70 and hitting 75 when using Path Tracing in Cyberpunk. Hotspot is around 70-80 depending on my use and vram stops at 70c. Case is a Corsair 7000x and clock speeds are 2760mhz.
I could of bought the Expert for 40$ more but the Pro art was a better case fit unfortunately. I am not disappointed in the Pro-Art 4080 super but i did want to buy the Expert. I mean 1095 for a pro art 4080 super it's a really nice card John. had since day of launch! Man did i haggle Micro Center lol! FYI using MSI Afterburner +225 Core Clock +1100mhz Memory clock has been solid gaming so that might be a good baseline for you to start at. Never crashed yet but i so have a lower tier OC core clock at +150 for Warzone! Use at your own risk lol!
Ohhh, thanks for the info regarding your ProArt OC settings. I'll definitely try those out when I unbox and start testing mine. I like the MSI Expert, but personally, prefer the ProArt design better. Shhh, don't tell MSI ;)
I was a huge fan of MSI's evoke oc 5700 card from back in the day that had a similar look. Do you think it's worth getting this or holding out for the next series of gpus?
I'd buy one of these used, to help save cost. They haven't applied any discounts on these cards yet, so I'd wait if you plan to buy new. I hear the new cards will be announced at CES in January, but we may not see cards for a few months afterwards. When the 3000 & 4000 series came out, it was quite difficult to get cards.. so that's a concern too. If you're in the market for a card, buy a used one for now and then consider upgrading again next year.
That's the confusing part.. both are the manufacturer (MSIs) websites. One is their product page and the other is their official store. But yes, I agree. Given the fact that I couldn't find it.. I'd agree and say it doesn't have one.
@@JohnLCharette That's a bit of a head scratcher. Seems like whoever set the store up was looking at more than one thing at a time, maybe threw that in cause they finished another page on a card that had it and it was fresh on their mind.
Admittadely I like the founders edition more, but only by like.. 4% more. Definitely not worth the extra $300 or so dollars just cause they dont make enough, definitely going for this. Need that flow through type design for an ITX build, wanna shoot the heat out of the case with a design like this. Good card!
Nah, some vendors do it. Others don’t. I can’t remember if that one did or not. Just make sure it’s pushed in all the way and you’ll be fine. I do recommend buying a dedicated 12vhwpr cable to clean things up. Those adapters are bulky.
I personally wouldn't be too concerned. Yes, I've seen cooler cards, but know that my temps were with fan speeds on Auto, which landed at 30%. These cards won't start to throttle performance until 88C, and that's when the fan will kick in to keep it cooler. What case are you using?
You'd need to install the GPU into an enclosure with Thunderbolt 4 support. You can read all about it here: www.windowscentral.com/can-you-use-egpu-surface-pro-8
@@JohnLCharette Thanks, I do have a used RTX 4070 Ti Super from MSI and dont know which case I can use to connect it with my Microsoft Surface Pro 8, cant afford and upgrade for my laptop.
It has 2 exhausts actually. In the orientation of this video, the left fan will exhaust it out of the left side, and the right fan will exhaust it directly out of the top. I have this card in my tower 300 build, and I use vertical orientation. Most of the heat is being dispersed through the side rather than the side that has the grill. That side is more cool air than anything if you're using this gpu as intake.
You'd have to check the measurement specs on MSIs website vs yours. I'm not sure which make/model RX550 you have.. but I'm guessing this card will be bigger. Let us know what you find out.
Okay so i am currently trying to install my GFX card (MSI 4080 super Expert) and dont have a 12v hpwr converter. I assume that means I need to use the supplied cable. Do I need to plug in all 3 8-pin connectors? Im kind of confused.
@@JohnLCharette I figured that might be the case. Only problem is the cable it comes with is just slightly too big and I can't put my side panel back on. Looks as though I might need to get a converter or something. Is there a less bulky converter I can use, perhaps 90degree, that you might recommend? Edit: I am rocking a Gigabyte 850w modular PSU
One last thing to note.. the fans don't spin unless they are under load. Make sure you jump into a game and play for a bit, then the fans should turn on. If that top fan still doesn't, then return it.
I ran into the same issue. Performance was fine for a while, then the top exhaust fan stopped after normal in-game stress (I think I was playing Last Epoch at the time...nothing crazy). This was after about a week of use. I tried everything to get it going again. I called MSI for tech support, they had walked me through the standard stress test procedures. Nothing. The recommended returning it to the retailer, so I did. Ended up returning it to newegg, I later went with a different 4080 super. No slight on the MSI expert, as I believe there may have been just a few bad cards out there.
Haha, thanks for the feedback. I never know what to do about music.. have it super low in the background and then turn it up during transitions.. pop it it like I did that video or have no music at all.
Haha, yeah. My wife chirps at me every time I steal it from the dining room table. One day, I'll buy a fancy motorized 360-degree stand to show off parts.
How much u can increase the power maximum?

@JohnLCharette thank u. I curious because on some cards can increase +15% or +25%.
I know the ProArt 4080 Super I'm using right now is only able to increase the power limit by 10%.
Its such a divisive card design some think it’s gorgeous and some think it’s ugly, no in-between
I definitely like it. Your thoughts?

For the fan on top, does it release hot air towards the CPU?
Yes, in a traditional horizontal mount, it pulls air from the bottom and shoots it up towards the CPU.
