Thank you for sharing such a quick & to the point video explaining how to replace the water pump in these Old School Caddies. However I do have one question. At 0:40 you say to "leave the belt on". May I ask, what is the reason for that ? Does it aid with the removal of that pulley ? In effect, holding the pulley in place so one can remove the three "13mm" bolts without the pulley spinning freely ? Once again I thank you for the tutorial & your willingness to share your knowledgebase. Bill K.
Kenneth Skipper They are reliable and well proven, fun engines. But the head gasket is a problem and The fact that it's transverse mounted gives little space under the hood. If you want one. Look for one with low milage that has been maintained very well. That is crucial for the head gasket.
Its the accumulation of 10+ years of design testing running manufacturing tweaking and tuneing from 4.1 to 4.5 finally 4.9 i love em had 3 biggest problem you’ll have is either gonna be the security system with the wires there’s which isn’t that big if you can handle that and just leaks, regular leaks and stuff I did have to replace the transmission on this one but gladly did it
Head gasket that’s not very likely but however if that is the case it’s not looking good buddy you better off just get a different motor. It’s got aluminum block Ironhead so pretty much you destroy the threads when you take the bolts out unless you got technique that’s flawless then you still gotta torque them down without destroying the bolts, it’s possible but it’s more trouble than it’s worth

So if that was the case nd something may have happened to my head gasket estimate how hard would it b to fix or pay to be fixed?
