I suggest periodically check to make sure the coolant is clean. If you drive with dirty coolant overtime the debris will get to the water pump and wear it out faster.
Chirping also can be a sign that a water pump is on the brink. Mine started doing this a few days ago, so I'm buying it online today and replacing it ASAP.
If you're reading this, its probably too late. Check the coolant level every 3-6 months. I didn't & had a burning smell & I couldn't figure out the cause until I lost all heat in my car. I filled up the reservoir with coolant/ water mix and my heat started working again, but I realized I had a water leak coming from my water pump. Now I need a new 1 and it's not cheap. If my coolant level never got that low, maybe I wouldn't have damaged the seals in the water pump causing the bad leak. Idk By the way, the needle on the temperature gauge never showed that the car was running hot. I hope this saves someone trouble and $.
Thank you for the information. I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee special edition. My friend told me the water pump is kind of loose but I still get heat. Is this a bad sign?
Yes very informative a noise started coming from my timing timing belt area am guessing its the pulley . Also my a.c recently stopped working could that also be a symptom???
My car is whining end it gets louder with rpms almost sounds like a Supercharger my AC started to blow warm air thats when my car overheated could this be my problem?
Hi great video ! My car has these symptoms since last night , engine overheating message came on after a 40mile drive, now this morning belt is whining , mechanic cant do for 3 weeks as fully booked up, can I still drive it until he can fix?
The weep hole and pump outer seal and bearing seal all are culprits to adding/leaking air into the system. Very common in older, 200k, vehicles. I really like the 1997-2001 toyota camry. It gives you plenty of warning for failure, and just do everything on the engine outer at 200k and you will reach 350 to 400.
Hey man, I have a Camry from that Era. I might have the same problem with water pump,,as every time I start the vehicle, it releases thin white smoke. Could be coolant leaking, because usually cold starts are only mornings; but everytime the engine is off for more than 30 mins, it releases the white smoke.
Additionally, is your engine leaking oil through the seals. Replace the pcv valve, seals, oil seal at cover and water pump. Once you have the cover off, ant for toyotas it's about 200k, also timing serp. And p/s belt. It will ensure you reach 300 to 400k. Do idler pulleys too. Once timed right it will run so sweet, and never pull it apart again.
So I don’t see the coolant circulating in the radiator but I do get heat on the heater. Am I looking at a thermostat that’s stuck closed? The vehicle I have starts to run a bit warmer than usual if I come to a stop
When i was driving my car just started slowing down out of nowhere and i heard some loud whining noises after that and then the engine started overheating and then i cut it off imm my lights start flashing and i can't keep coolant in after that it leaks all out

I have always had a leak being the cause of a bad water pump. Easy to diagnose that. THIS time, I kept hearing a grinding or bad bearing from the front of the engine, but what and where is this coming from? I thought, "it can't be the water pump because I just replaced it 2 years ago". Then the serpentine belt began shredding in half. Replaced the belt, it did it again with a new belt. What is causing all of this? Replaced both idler and tensioner pullies. Did not help. I took the belt off and the radiator fan was loose and wobbling. There's the problem. The water blades were grinding on the housing inside the pump and tilting down the water pump pully to make the belt shred in half from being out of line with the other pullies. The problem started from; I bought a rebuilt water pump 2 years ago. My suggestion, ALWAYS buy a new water pump. I've learned it's worth it.
I think I have the similar issue as you. The water pump doesn't leak as I installed it 6 months ago but I have squeaky noise still after my serpentine belt got torn up replace it and the tentionor but the noise was still there today I replaced the thermostat because the car was overheating and I checked everything before doing it only thing left is the water pump my uncle was against me checking it because of how new it is I really wish he had let me take it off I still have warranty on it but since we replaced the thermostat the problem is still there we'll I'll I hope this is it otherwise I'll be out of options and I'll get my second tan of this week.
@@Alejandra-cv7rj My suggestion. What made me KNOW it was the water pump was, I took off the serpentine belt. Then with it off, I could move the fan by hand. It wobbled A LOT moving it with my hand. I knew then the water pump shaft was the problem and making the belt run off center.
So I have a 2016 Buick LaCrosse I have a coolant leak I can only see the coolant under the passenger side of the engine, before I found out my coolant was low my heat was taking like 10/15 minutes to warm up u think that’s just cause the coolant leak or the water pump but now that I topped off the coolant the heat works fine

I’ve been having an issue with dashboard thermostat just all the way up and back to normal in under a second. The engine isn’t really overheating but I’ve noticed a small coolant leak and just last night steam/vapor started coming from the vents when the defrost was turned on. I plan on getting the water pump replaced asap but any suggestions on what else could be causing this?
If water pump drips is that a bad pump or gasket? I had an overheat but not sure the original cause it was 9f outside. And the coolant was changed in May. No issues til cold. I was assuming not properly coolant dilution. But shops don't always say truth. Now if there is a bad gasket would that let air in the system so it can't properly circulate? Mine pressure the hoses with air I bleed it and then still no circulation but the pressure gradually builds again. The expansion tank will blow off the pressure. This is a 04 Discovery 4.6l V8. Just was interested in the water pump info if it can be still good even if gasket was bad.
It could be one or the other. The only way to know is to remove the water pump and look at the condition of the water pump fins. If there is resistance when rotating by hand or some of the fins are corroded or broken then it's best to replace it. If it's leaking from the weep hole then the seals are defective and the pump needs replacement. Considering your vehicle is 19 years old I would assume the pump is bad.
yes, most likely, change it together with the waterpump because if the thermostat is failing, your water pump isnt too far away as well. plus theyre located near eachother. thank me later

My wifes car is clunking, almost like something rapidly tapping against plastic, the car suddently started to sound 100x worse (all while the temperature gauge didn't go up) the sound went back to normal for a while when all of a sudden it came back even louder and the car shut off on us multiple times, after a while it wouldnt start and we parked it in a nearby parking lot (we drove further because we were about 5 - 7km from home, otherwise we wouldve stopped) Any suggestions? I've got a small leak coming around that area. But my engine hasn't over heated and the heater stays hot. No CEL. I'm thinking it's the thermostat housing that I replaced about a month ago is just faulty.
Noisy around the belt area that you can hear from the streets. Plus clanking noise. Then leaking i thought was trannie fluid leak as i added too much the previous week. Then the whole left side by the belt, alternator area all wet with mud looking juice on it. Then overheat to hot. I stopped and water was gushing out from all areas in the bottom. Added more water and still dripping down. Limp my way home and car stalled at the light. Then belt making squeaky noises then stopped. Then belt derailed so battery sensor goes up. Then steering wheel was hard to turn. The serpentine belt runs all to alternator and power steering but the water pump does not run even when the belt was running. The water pump was making it hard for the belt to turn thus why it flew off. 430k n never flush radiator coolant. Car was gifted. 2011 Camry. Will call junk yard to go take it from the streets. No need to put more money into this high mileage car. I need to buy another car this weekend with only $2000 down or my work life is done. $2000 is all i got right now. Wish me the best.
@@SRGJ1 the noise coming from the belt area. It is loud on idle. Faulty water pump will make that noise before it goes out. I ended up buying a new water pump n a new belt n fixed the problem. Good thing I parked in a mall Parking lot which is not public street or cops going up tow it. My water pump is sitting high on my car so easy to change out. The hard part is to get the belt to fit. Had to loosen the torque to get it to fit. Thought they sold me an extra long belt. Drained the radiator fluid while I'm at it. Add fluids to fill, start engine n turned on the heater to get the car to heat up fast n slowly adding more radiator fluid as the water pump is pushing out all the air. Around half hour should be done. Back to driving again. Hope that helps someone out there.
Hi thanks im a subscriber. Question please... 1995 Lexus LS 400 : My heater was not blowing hot air. Changed thermostat because car was also overheating and it was bad and stuck closed and old. Now the heater does blow hot air out but is there a chance that it only blows hot air out because the engine is warm providing the hot air, tricking me to think that the water pump works ? I ask because why was the heater not working when the old bad stuck closed thermostat was in place but now the heater works all of a sudden with the NEW thermostat in place ? Wouldnt the heater work no matter what if the water pump was good ? I also ask because the car is still overheating with the new thermostat in place and before with the bad stuck closed thermostat, the upper radiator hose was not getting hot meaning thermostat closed was not allowing hot coolant to reach the upper hose but now with the New thermostat in place, tje upper hose IS HOT because coolant is reaching it now passing thru the good thermostat. I also thought that the water pump circulates the hot coolant from the hot engine thru the radiator but CAN COOLANT CIRCULATE FROM THE HOT ENGINE THRU THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE BY MEANS OF ENGINE ROTATION PRESSURE ALONE ? DOES ENGINE ROTATION EVEN CIRCULATE COOLANT TO BEGIN WITH ? Im asking because the coolant seems to circulate because the upper hose gets hot when engine warms up. CAN COOLANT CIRCULATE THRU THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE WITH A BAD WATER PUMP ? I dont see leaks near the water pump, i dont hear noises near the pump and the Heater Does Blow HOT AIR. Im so confused smh. Thanks. Anybody knowledgeable please reply soon
I’m literally having the same problem I’m going to just get a new water pump an replace my thermostat/ change my air intake but can someone describe how hard it is to replace the water pump
If I gta keep my defrost turned on to avoid over heating and have to add antifreeze constantly is that a water pump? 🤔 any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏
I would stop driving my car if I was you can be multiple problems than just your water pump . You check your fluids ? Such as oil and coolant if it's overheating
My car is doing all this $3700, do u know how long my car will last with everything being replaced at 179 thousand miles. Theirs water in the oil too. Thanks
Know why my coolant is white a little bit but not sluggish, I do t loose coolant it don’t over heat? I had just replaced my pcv valve so no water in my oil I got no mis fire no check engine light nothing, no loss in power, what’s my issue? car is a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, I fixed water pump also on it.
I drive a 2017 Audi Q7 I had my check engine light come on and off within like 2 hours time. This happened 2-3 weeks ago.. I scanned it right when it happened and it came up with a code for “super charger sensor” then disappeared… Nothing noticeably different while driving what’s so ever.. but a day after the code popped up and went away I start hearing a weird clanking/grinding like noise only when idling, As if one of my pulley went bad. I tell this mechanic that looked at it yesterday exactly what I just explained right.. So he looks at it and tells me that my supercharger was the cause of the noise, as well as the supercharger pulley tensioner.. Last night I have another guy look at it and without even taking it apart he looks, listens and tells me within 10 mins that it’s my water pump pulley that is bad. He’s 1000% sure not my supercharger. He said I would’ve had black smoke coming from my exhaust , loss of power along with some type excessive whining; in which none of this I experienced.. In your experiences and from the sound of this situation ; what are your opinion’s on this? Every answer and/opinion is greatly appreciated and will save me a few strands of hair that I have left on my head
What are the reasons that make the water pump in the car 6 cylinder 530 BMW model 2006 does not stop working even when the car is turned off, it works on a clock
When im traveling in my car for a long distance, engine temperature will be okay but after i slow down in a traffic it will start over heating and i all ready replaced radiator, pipes and thermostat, still the issue persist. For extra information, next day before i turn on my car, the water will be full in reservoir tank but empty in the radiator. Can someone advise please
I have a 2012 nissan altima and there is no coolant leak. Heater works fine. Car warms up normally but when I drive for around 40 min or longer my car than doesnt want to go anymore. It starts slowing down. And when I let it sit for 10-20min than it drives for a few again. But I noticed the coolant level always stays the same showing it clearly isnt circulating. Is it the thermostat not opening or is it the water pump?
Just because you have an overheating engine that can mean a thousand different things uranium could be drying out your pipes could be leaking your thermostat could be messing up
Any idea why engine won't heat up to temp or circulate? Already replaced thermostat and ECT sensor. Fan never kicks on, and low side of radiator stays cool. In Arizona, so it's hot out and the heater core is hot, blowing very hot air. Could it be because I'm using water and not coolant? Edit - radiator was replaced. Was in a collision. System is self bleeding, no bleeder valve. 2019 Chevy Equinox 1.5 turbo. My next thought is water pump, but it's not leaking and I'm obviously not overheating.
Always check and make sure your thermostat Works before you install it in the car. Put the thermostat in a pan of water and turn it on high and make sure it opens before you install it. It doesn't matter if it's new or not a lot of them do not open. A water pump will not make a car overheat unless the water is pouring out of the weep hole and the car is low on antifreeze. The bearing squealing does not stop the water pump from circulating the water unless it breaks the shaft or locks up then it will toss the belt. Make sure you don't have an air pocket. I just about bet money that your new thermostat is crap or air pocket these newer cars are notorious for air pockets. This guy on this video saying that the water pump will stop circulating the water no it will not. Unless the motor has no antifreeze from leaking from the weep hole or another leak. the pump locks up or snaps the shaft. And it will throw the belt immediately.
I'm not 100% sure whether my car is having a head gasket issue or my water pump, because nothing is screaming either, but something definitely isnt right and it lost power in the engine so I'm thinking the head gasket
It makes this noise, u think it could be the power steering…. Then u realize its the water pump and that water pump pulley is at its last dayyysss….. check the power steering and the water pump because they sound the same

I hope you got it figured out . But what kind of clanking noises ? Mines doing this then now doing the same symptoms as seeen on the video .
@@SRGJ1 also, you can hold the water pump n try to shake it. If it is loose then the water pump is bad.
Excuse me, does the water pump create air when it breaks.. because it cannot fill the pipes properly with water..? Thank you
Uhhh, the water pump, pumps coolant not water 😂
Hi thanks im a subscriber.
Question please...
1995 Lexus LS 400 :
My heater was not blowing hot air.
I appreciate this one 💯
If I gta keep my defrost turned on to avoid over heating and have to add antifreeze constantly is that a water pump? 🤔 any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏
I would stop driving my car if I was you can be multiple problems than just your water pump . You check your fluids ? Such as oil and coolant if it's overheating
My car is doing all this $3700, do u know how long my car will last with everything being replaced at 179 thousand miles. Theirs water in the oil too. Thanks
Thanks
Thank you!
Not a blown head gasket btw had people tell me *
PERFECT
I drive a 2017 Audi Q7
I had my check engine light come on and off within like 2 hours time.
Last night I have another guy look at it and without even taking it apart he looks, listens and tells me within 10 mins that it’s my water pump pulley that is bad. He’s 1000% sure not my supercharger. He said I would’ve had black smoke coming from my exhaust , loss of power along with some type excessive whining; in which none of this I experienced.. In your experiences and from the sound of this situation ;
what are your opinion’s on this?
Every answer and/opinion is greatly appreciated and will save me a few strands of hair that I have left on my head
My car been making that supercharger noise and does sound shaky, then smoke started coming out on my way from work,
What are the reasons that make the water pump in the car 6 cylinder 530 BMW model 2006 does not stop working even when the car is turned off, it works on a clock
I have a polo vive CLP it have a strange sound underneath I don't weather is oil pump oh what pump
arent these all symptoms of a bad thermostat housing as well?
When im traveling in my car for a long distance, engine temperature will be okay but after i slow down in a traffic it will start over heating and i all ready replaced radiator, pipes and thermostat, still the issue persist.
For extra information, next day before i turn on my car, the water will be full in reservoir tank but empty in the radiator.
Can someone advise please
Sounds like this could be your radiator fans not working.
Did you ever get this fixed ? This is happening to my car too
Oh jeez my has alllllll the symptoms!!!!😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Just because you have an overheating engine that can mean a thousand different things uranium could be drying out your pipes could be leaking your thermostat could be messing up
I see signs of water splashing from the top hose that is from the radiator to the engine
Thank U
Didn't forget the more common failure of the thermostat before pulling out the water pump thinking that's the problem.
I have a coolant leak around that area both my ac and heater went out and my truck turns off every so often
Thermostat in wrong direction making coolant run all the time. Engine never getting hot but radiator always warm.
Is the water pump problem make the car jacking speed
My car is not overheating, a clanking noise when I step on accelerator than when I take my foot off it stops
Can water pump make a clicking and knocking sound?
Mine is making a clunking sound
No f__king round, , meat & potatoes No fluff. Thank You...
and thank you!
@EasyAutoFix Keep creating content like this and you will do very well...
I'm not 100% sure whether my car is having a head gasket issue or my water pump, because nothing is screaming either, but something definitely isnt right and it lost power in the engine so I'm thinking the head gasket
Yo, thanks, ba da bing.
It makes this noise, u think it could be the power steering…. Then u realize its the water pump and that water pump pulley is at its last dayyysss….. check the power steering and the water pump because they sound the same
i would turn on my ac and drive normally here and there ill hear whinning sounding like that
My coolant comes out the cap bad water pump?
That's thermostat I think
