Great video, in order to get my daughter to eat greens, I added pacific clams to your recipes. Now I have no problems in getting her to eat kai lan /baby kai lan and as pacific clams are pretty pricey, I sometimes use prawns with the tail on...taste great too :)
Delicious Chinese Broccoli Stir Fried, thumbs up Spice N Pans! I love broccoli, never seen Chinese Broccoli before, what's the difference? Have a wonderful Sunday evening!!
I made some of this it was a hit absolutely love it i bought 3 packs of gai lan from asian store i cooked them all following your recipes. We love it eat it with rice 😊.
Thank you! This is my favorite Chinese vegetable dish. I didn't even know what it was called since I only eat it when my relatives order it at a restaurant (and I don't speak Chinese). Can't wait to try making it next week after grocery shopping. This channel is awesome.
My stir fried vegetables never quite had the right taste until I found this video. I didn't try the first method because I prefer just doing everything in one pan, but second method is already so tasty. Thank you for covering something so simple for us folks that don't have a natural talent for cooking 😅 This is perfect!
Lordy, love the second version with ginger. :) Thanks chef absolutely love Chinese broccoli. Personally for the first I'd add mushroom and garnish with boiled peanuts. I love how you introduce me to amazing recipes and challenge my adapting them for my family. Lordy, you are the best channel I've discovered.
Thank you for showing these two methods of coooking kai lan.Is one of our favorite dish to order in chinese restaurants.I tried to cook many times but turned out not tasty! I am happy u showed us two methods od coooking it.👍
I just came across this video today. And I used your 2nd recipe. It was very good. I had all the ingredients except the kai lan. So I used broccoli and carrot. It was still great. This is now my go to sauce for Chinese stir fry vegetables. Thanks so much. 🙏
To me, the best Chinese restaurant is the SUN WAH.It is located in the North side of Chicago at Broadway and Argyle (on Broadway). I have been visiting this restaurant for around 30 years. I was watching when they take out the Gailan flowers, they don't use them in the food. I did ask to the owner what is the reason for that, the owner told me: because in the flowers is a big concentration of insecticides. Incredible, this is to take care of customers and...attention to details...bravo Sun Wah, I love that !!!
Just made this (first recipe) and was surprised how delicious and versatile this sauce is. Would be great with beef, fish, egg noodles, mushrooms, prawns, everything you can think of
Gai lan was my favorite veggie to beat, best eaten along fried and sauced dishes like salt and pepper ribs. Also with zi char dishes like salted egg prawns. I had oyster sauce with dried scallops I bet it'll make this more decadent.
I try these coz my madam always bought kailan but i dont know what is the nice dish for these. Thank u for ur video. Now i can cook kailan in a simple way but very tasty
yeeehey !! good timing my children are coming to visit me, I will serve this tomorrow. cheers.once again thank u Chef . oh by the way I prefer the first dish!!
Thanks Roland & Jamie! Even though this is a everyday dish, i still learn something. Lollll I have been frying the veg b4 putting the oyster sauce etc. Shall learn your method now 😋
Hi Chef. Can I use water spinach/kangkung in this dish? Love majority of your recipe and I've been cooking some for my family and your dishes never disappoints us. Thank you.
Haha you’re right Toys Hanger. That’s why we always go for more complicated vegetable dishes if we eat out to feel more psychologically balanced. LOL. 🤓🤓
My husband always request me Lina please make this vege like chinese recipe. But i did not now. Today night i will try to make. First one i like the most.
Hi Anishka. You don’t have to blanch the veg first in the second method. That makes it so much more convenient which is why we prefer the second method - great lazy way out to a plate of yummy veg. Happy cooking!
I'm surprised you guys never make any " sg mee hoon"/ Xing zao mai. Looking forward to one:) Subscribed because of your curry laksa video. Enjoying the other videos now.
Thank you so much for your kind support, Kevin :) Here's our version of Sg beehoon ua-cam.com/video/8s7yjqwgl7w/v-deo.html. Hope you like it. Have a great weekend!
Hi Jahstice. You can replace oyster sauce with mushroom sauce. It looks like oyster sauce except that it’s made with mushrooms. Tastes almost the same too. As for fish sauce, you can use light soy sauce instead. Hope this helps. Happy cooking!
I am renting a room and the house owner allows light cooking only. Can I just pour the mixer of sauce on the boiled vegetables without heating in the pan?
Are you able to heat up the oil and then pour it over the chopped garlic? That will help to increase the fragrance of the garlic. After that, you can just add the rest of the ingredients in. As for water, use hot water so that it can melt the sugar. Hope this helps.
I have this issue whenever I cook Kailan vegetables. After cooking, there's always a kind of taste which we find it strange. It's a bit bitter and tastes somehow like chemicals. I tried various types of kailan, both locally grown or from Hong Kong. Most give the same weird taste after cooking, even the ones from Hong Kong. Those from China are the worst. However organic Kailan tastes fine with no such strange aftertaste. Someone told me it's due to the pesticides used on these vegetables. But I always wash my vegetables with salt or baking soda to get rid of those harmful pesticides and dirt. So I cannot fathom why Kailan and sometimes certain vegetable species have such strange bitter and chemical-like taste after cooking. I reckon the source of the vegetables is important? Can anyone here enlighten me?
hmm yeah we agree that sometimes kai lan can taste a little weird. Never occurred to us though the source of vegetables is important until you pointed it out. What you said could be true.
I’m not sure either but I think blanching the vegetables or cooking it with ginger as done in the video should be able to remove the bitter taste. Nothing to worry about though hehe it’s the nature of it
I have been attending the Sun Wah restaurant for more than 40 years which is located in the North side area of Chicago, Broadway and Argyle, on Broadway. One day I saw a group of employees sat down getting rid of the Chinese broccoli (Gai Lan) flowers (they don't use the flowers), I did ask to the owner what was the reason for that, he told me...BECAUSE IN THE FLOWERS IS THE BIGGEST CONCENTRATION OF INSECTICIDES. to me, if you don't know what you are doing when cooking...you can kill some one!!!

Hi Cindy 🤓🤓 the stem of Chinese broccoli has the crunch of broccoli- the crunch of the leaves is also much fuller than that of choy sum. Yum.

Sorry if this is a silly question.. but for the second method, the kailan that was added, was it blanched as per the first method?

Is there a good way of substituting the oyster and fish sauce with something else when it comes to cooking, to make it vegetarian?
Hi Jahstice. You can replace oyster sauce with mushroom sauce. It looks like oyster sauce except that it’s made with mushrooms. Tastes almost the same too. As for fish sauce, you can use light soy sauce instead. Hope this helps. Happy cooking!
@@spicenpans Amazing. Thank you very much. Quick question: what is light soy sauce? Less salt? I have never heard of it before

Good morning from Singapore, Cheng Jun! Opps sorry about that. We also just learned that kailan is called Chinese broccoli. 😆😆
@@spicenpans And now it seems some Westerners are starting to call it Chinese Kale as well... what to do?
does blanching vegetables reduce a significant amount of the nutrients? all the nutrients are dissolved in the water, yet you don't use the water
👍

Hello, my family don’t like the taste of fish sauce, can we just add more ShaoXing wine or we should replace with something else?
Hi Gabriel. Please replace fish sauce with light soy sauce. Hope this helps 👍🏻👍🏻

The reason for adding sugar that's because this vege has a slight bitter taste and sugar will neutralise it
How can you eat sugar with this veggies.. i cant imagine that.. so weird
